Still measures 6112m Par 72 with three par 3s ranging from 134-197m, twelve par 4s ranging from 281-415m and three par 5s ranging from 458-505m. As mentioned the clubhouse views are magnificent which sits 110m above sea level atop a plateau with the lowest part of the course being along the 497m 4th hole where the land is around 50m above sea level where it falls away to Manly Dam. The course has 9 small-to-medium sized ponds or dams which unlike other courses, some come into play more than you think…the course also has 36 bunkers.

The course has a hilly layout interspersed with some interesting internal OOB. The layout is not a traditional parkland style course with some holes wide and others are cut through the native bushland with rock outcrops visible on most holes. Although, its wide kikuyu fairways are fair for all golfers with minimal rough, there are some tight driving holes on the back nine. The bent/poa mix greens are consistent and fairly quick. The teebeds are also kikuyu with some elevated teeshots, straight holes and a few doglegs.

Highlights include: the straight 365m from an elevated tee 3rd (index 1) with a dam right 180m to clear off the tee and another dam 5-30m short of the bunkerless green across the fairway, the 395m gentle double dogleg 11th (index 2) with a fairway bunker 220-255m from the tee on the right, with OOB on the left tee to green and OOB right from the fairway bunker all the way to the green guarded by another bunker 5-30m short right, the 150m 13th (index 15) from an elevated tee 15m above the green guarded by 2 bunkers with a small pond 10-30m short right, the 415m Par 4 straight 14th (index 4) has fairway narrowing with a small pond 250-275m from the tee on the left with a thickly vegetated fall on the left from tee to the bunkerless green, and the 197m 16th (index 7) with a 165m teeshot clearance over the small dam to a green guarded by 2 bunkers shortside.

There are 4 shortish par 4s to score well on, the dogleg left 282m 1st, the 281m 7th, 286m uphill dogleg right 9th and the gentle dogleg right 315m 10th. The two long par 5s on the front nine are challenging with OOB, thick native vegetation with rock outcrops and some bunkers to contend with.

Having played here a few times now, most recently 5/7/2011, green fees are now $44 on the usually busy weekends, $38 weekdays to play socially, and open competitions held on Mondays are $35. Remember, if you play on the weekends, you are playing behind the competition groups which can be slow. Great views of the ocean from some of the back nine holes with a well-maintained course in an unique piece of bushland. I agree with others in that Wakehurst is one of the better public-access courses on the northern beaches…much better than Warringah and of a similar quality than as Mona Vale.

Played here a couple of times in the past year. The front 9 is more interesting in layout than the back 9. Straight shooting is required or be prepared to lose a few balls. No free drops if it lands in a difficult spot. If walking, can be hard work as there are some steep hills to climb. Quite a lot of wild life to enjoy, with water dragons all over the course, even enjoying a beer with you on the club house balcony. Overall nice course with some good holes, worth a visit once or twice a year.

Challenging and very unique in places. There are some short par 4’s here but that should not deceive you in to thinking that it is easy. On some holes the driver is not an option and missing the fairways will cost you dearly most of the time. There are some very tight drives and some of the greens are small. Some of greens also have severe slopes in places but not too much that it becomes like crazy golf.

I didn’t play very well but the course kept me entertained and I would happily return for another round.

The only blip on the day was the speed of play which was made worse on the back 9 by groups cutting in on the 10th. I would also say that the club has a fairly pointless call up policy on every par 3. This does nothing to help and just keeps groups pushed up against one another.

We found the course to be in good condition throughout.

Found it to be a good hit with a couple of holes that you could really bring out the driver on. greens were in great condition and fairways too. A couple of dog legs and blind greens that you need to be careful with placement of your tee shot. Lots of sand around greens which made approaches interesting. 3rd is a great hole with lots of water to avoid. I would play here again

Great course, great greens, forces you to be very accurate off the tee, and even on approach shots to most greens. It’s a picturesque course and not a really hard slog, but very challenging for the wayward.

I would not like to be on the course behind a very slow group, or indeed anyone playing off higher handicaps – really not suitable for that level of golfer.

Perfectly suited to the low double figures and single figure players, it will challenge and also make for a very pleasant round. There is length enough to provide the big boombers with some room, and it’s tight enough for the controlled player to shine.

A great course for a private comp say between 2 groups.

Other reviews mentioned poor staff attitude, or member attitude. I’ve never found that when playing there, always seemed to be treated with respectful and friendly service.

That said – the tee time policing is a little lax. This is probably due to the fact that higher handicap golfer do struggle around this course – and can slow down play considerably.

Best to get off and away early. And don’t expect to be able to whip around in 4 and a half hours, and you’ll have a very enjoyable day.

Very simple to sum up this course – great holes, good condition, beautiful views, nice club house and you’re treated like dirt.

90 mins after scheduled tee-off we were still waiting with 3 other groups to tee of on the 3rd. Rang the pro-shop to complain – they couldn’t care less.

The way they treat visitors is a joke. Quicker to drive to Camden lakeside, play 18, 2 beers, drive home and give the wife a cuddle than to play the front nine at Wakehurst.

Nice course but get ready for a 6 hour round. Had to play behind a fivesome of members who told us if we didn’t like it we could leave there club. Great clubhouse and superb greens.

Played here Oct 06. I used to be a cadet in early 80s when there was a sign asking that everybody pick up some rocks from the fairway. Well it has changed somewhat ij the past 25 years. Swapped the nines around and they have delivered a superb course.

Looks great with plenty of levels, water and in very good condition.

Not overly long but easy to wrack up a big score. If you belong to the smash it 260+ and then wedge it up then you may be in for a torrid time unles you hit it straight but if that was the case you'd be on the tour.

If instead you like to tour Sydney's courses try this out. No boring holes, all with a number of tee beds so in seemingly constantly good condition, fairway's lush and greens receptive to a well struck shot. Bunkers and water hazards add to the value of a straight hit.

I took 2 or 3 iron from every par4/5 except for the 14th and 18th where the fairways were accommodating enough. Coincidental or not but this is where I scored a couple of triple bogeys, otherwise 2 iron followed up by a range of clubs will have you using all your clubs and getting value for money at $34 for a mid week round.

We played with a group of 8 players on the weekend. The course certainly tests your ability to hit straight. If you cannot hit straight each time you will either be in a water hazed, bunker or out of bounds. The course is well maintained and the greens are nicely kept. We will go back there one day.

Recently played at Wakehurst and found the course in great condition, the fairways and greens were immaculate and as long as you hit it straight you are going to enjoy this course. The wind was up when we played here and this only added to the challenge. Highly recommend this course as is in top condition at the moment.

A nice, quite hilly course set in bushland overlooking Manly.

The only negative thing I have to say about Wakehurst is that this course will prove an absolute b*tch for anyone who doesn't hit it dead straight. On most holes here you are very likely to lose the ball if you go more than a few metres off course as the fairways are mostly lined with near vertical drops covered in extremely thick bracken - it's so unlikely you'll ever be able to find your ball that all the fairways might as well have water running up at least one side of them.

That being said the course is quite picturesque and was in very good condition all round when I played here recently. Well worth a visit if you're in the area as it's reasonably priced at $38.00 on a weekend.

Not really for beginners though!

Despite booking (& confirming) a tee time, we hit off 30 minutes late without any sense of urgency, regret or care from the pro shop.

But worse was to happen.

It took a group of 4 mid handicappers over 3 hours to play 9 holes because of the sheer volume of players the Pro Shop allowed on to the course.

In our 3 plus hours of mainly standing around waiting, we never saw a course marshall or any club rep out on the course trying to speed up the slow players and/or see that the course was well over maximum capacity.

Worse still, when we politely raised our concerns with the Pro Shop, we were rudely told "what's the problem" and "that's just normal to expect to take over 6 hours for a round here".

I'll never play at Wakehurst again but if you do, wear comfortable shoes and take lots of food and drinks because it'll take you 6 plus hours!

This cousre is so much like Chatswood it shoud be called Wakewood.

Though there are many picturesque greens, the challenge is there and a much needed pully system on the 18th will help on your way to the clubhouse.

Good pro, club and great course.

One of the more pleasant ones I've played, the front nine is great but it's all down hill from there.

I will play there again, and continue to with good people and respected course. It is good for a challenge and a social game, especially on the picturesque 3rd.

Good driving is needed, otherwise you end up in the bush; and that's no fun. Some of the dams make life difficult & add challenge to the course.

This is an interesting and varied course cut into the side of a hill on the valley leading down to Manly dam. There is often bush on both side of the tee, with some strategically placed dams and gullys it puts a premium on accuracy off the tee. There are a couple of holes with dams place right it front of the green which can be a little irritating but is a challenge none the less. One of the more interesting holes is the 2nd - a medium length par four where the second shot is often off a hanging lie to a green with bush on the right.
