what a joke this course is, every time you play here, you tee off about an hour after you have been told you can tee off, slow play is encouraged and the attire of most olfers is despicable. course is in good condition but constant waiting around for young kids riding on the back of carts and stuffing around on greens make for a very angry day.if you have atleast 5 to 6 hours to kill, this is the course for you. i will not be back anytime soon.

As an ex-Novocastrian visiting for xmas, I remembered the course as a flat track with lots of options for the average golfer (I’m very average). Due to some course work the holes were shortened on many occasions cutting down on the aforementioned options. I enjoyed my round, but I felt the course was not up to scratch. Given that the growing season is just about finished there were ruts (where pipes had been buried) all over and a lot of dead (diseased) fairway. Maybe the course is overused by hackers such as I, but in the 10 or so years since I have played the course it has gone backwards.
PROS
- Options on a lot of shots
- Excellent Greens
Cons
- Too much GUR

Well i was in newcastle visiting a mate and while he and some of my other mates went to the beach to swim and check out the honey's, i decided to hit the course...
I was surprised on a sunday that i had to wait till 4pm to start off my round, while i wasnt a member it was still off putting, but lucky one of the young gentleman at the club stepped up and offered me to take me around the course, so i was first off put and then quite surprised that a member would offer to take me around
The course itself is very well maintained, the greens are very true and i could not blame them for my poor putting, the walk isnt easy but isnt difficult either...
I dont remember the first 9 as the member had to rush through them, but i do remember the back nine...I took a short break and tee off on 9 and noticed how green the fairway was, the 9th was a longesh par 4 380 plus which seem to be the norm, and straight...this is one of the complaints i could have given this course, it was just so straight...there was no risk golf on this course the water was nice but they where always to far away from any danger area off the tees, there was no real risk/reward golf...
Regardless, most the tees where shapped and elavated which was a good idea for the course, teeing off with the right club choice was very important.
Overall i enjoyed the course, it was slighty to straight but the length and bunkering was more than enuf to amuse...

Played at Waratah and always had an enjoyable experience.
Start off with a long Par 4 with Out Of Bounds down the right. Followed up by a short Par 5 and then a Par 3 145m with a tree on the fairway to protect the green catching any shot not hit properly. My favourite hole on the course would be the Par 3 118m 11th with a water carry to a green heavily bunkered. I always seem to score well on this hole!! The signature hole on this course would though have to be the Par 3 15th 223m downhill to a green protected by 2 bunkers at the front. Can be almost impossible to get on in 1 when the wind blows the wrong way. Not being the longest hitter in the world find it to be a tough examination with 4 long (in my eyes) Par 3's over 160m + (and 2 short ones) and 4 Par 4's 360m +. Many people think this course is pretty straight forward but with several water carries over creeks'OOB in a few place and trees about the place not to mention the wind popping up bad scores can easily add up and ruin a round that started off well. The course is flat and easy walking, very well watered and the greens are at a pace that is easy to pick up and the ball runs very true. At only $25 every day of the week for social players a good game can be had by players of all levels.

Played at Waratah yesterday. I found the fairways in excellent condition. The greens have been cored and are extremely slow and sandy. Any break on the green is naturally reduced. I found the course easy to play and if you are straight off the tee you won’t have much trouble posting a good score. I play off 12 and shot even par for the fitst time ever. Admittedly I have been in good form with my last 5 games in single figures and I played good yesterday with 12 out of 18 greens in regulation and 4 up and downs but I don’t think the course plays difficult. The back 9 in particluar is very open. There are some challenging par 3’s and a few nice dogleg par 4’s but a few of the par 5’s are too short, in particular the 16th, which required a 3 iron and a 6 iron to be on in 2. But overall it’s a fun course which apart from the greens being cored is in excellent condition.
