Warburton is a private course but green fee players, corporate groups and visitors are welcome. The original nine hole layout can be traced back to input from Alister Mackenzie. The course was extended to eighteen holes which opened in 1970. After a fire in the original bluestone clubhouse a new clubhouse was opened in 1995.

The course is crossed in several places by narrow bubbling mountain streams. The original silo on the first is an icon of Warburton but the 443m par four 18th is surely its signature hole. The hole falls dramatically down the mountain to a flat area. The second shot must be played across a small dam and uphill to a small green. Many matches have been won and lost on this hole. The course is relatively short but golf is challenging with small greens and uneven lies.

It is a picturesque course which offers panoramic views to ease the pain of a bad day at the office, or give a sense of satisfaction if mastered.

Tee times are readily available through the week and visitors are able to enter the Saturday comp provided they have a current handicap. Bookings are essential on weekends and Wednesdays.

The perfect course to play on a warm day in my opinion. Plenty of trees, scenic and a creek that runs through the course with the best and cleanest water I have ever tasted. It’s well worth filling up your water bottle with some of this water, as it’s sensational. The course itself hasn’t got a bad layout, with some challenging holes, even if most of them are fairly short.

PROS

  • Quality of water in creek that runs through the course
  • Scenery
  • Ideal way to escape summer heat

Cons

  • Very little or no bunkering

Beautiful course and holds up very well in winter. Not usually overbooked so you can always enjoy a leisurely round without being hassled. You will need to bring all your driving power.

PROS

  • Magnificent views
  • Not too busy

Peaceful, pretty, warm and friendly. An excellent walk. Lovely 8th hole and the well known 18th makes your blood rush. Not particularly long but the hills make it long enough. Take your ventolin with you!

Under-rated course.

There are plenty of holes test you whole game including 200 par 3s, 500+ metre par 5s, and of course the 18th … 450 odd metres of challenge.

The greens are good, the condition overall is excellent – and contrary to what a previous poster commented, it is a great course in the winter. One of the best winter courses I have played away from the peninsula.

VERY Hilly!Dont play there in the wet the fairways become muddy and sloppy.I wouldn’t play here unless i was going to drive a buggy around it, the walk is hugh. There is only about two flat holes. The 18th is a fun hole a hugh downhill par 4, you can hit the most cracking tee shots off the tee off area that is placed a good 200m up from the base of the fairway.

interesting course can be quite cold in winter it is very hilly in places and some fairways could do with some signage so you now where to hit

1 hole requires you to hit a gong so other players behind you now the fairway is free of players

the last hole sorts most players out it drops dramatically from the tee doglegs right and then you are confronted with a small lake just before the last hole

if it is wet be very careful going down the hill it can be quite treachorous

Hilly course with a few creeks and tihgt fairways that don't demand big hitting but some precision shots. About 5 degrees cooler than Melbourne in summer with a lovely clubhouse with outdoor area. Feature is the first hole that challenges you to take a windmill on by cutting the corner. Always fun to play and the bellbirds and other birdlife make it an interesting walk.
