Course looking really good at the moment. Old course was good on Monday.

No problem with tee times, 7 minute intervals on weekdays and 8 minutes on weekends is the same as most courses. In fact a lot of public tracks don’t even offer weekday bookings, it’s turn up and join the queue

Maintianance over the past 18 months has been average but having played here again last week its back to its best. The fairwaiys are pure kikuya and are well defined. Pure bent grass greens that are slightly slow but have to be due to the traffic, greens roll pure.

Only downside is that the greed of the council/pro shop to try and push a group of 4 players of every 5 minutes which is not possoible. Slowest golf in Perth without a doubt. Clubhouse is due for a facelift.

After a 12 month break, I thought I’d return to Wembley with a pal and see if they’d lifted their game. It must be said that both courses look good and remain a stern test of golf, particularly on a windy day. The driving range is likely the best in Australia, and it’s priced accordingly. The course looked almost empty as my partner and I arrived around 4pm, no-one to be seen on any tee or on any fairway. Our first smile is met with a blunt "Have you booked?" No, we reply, but it does look kinda quiet. "Maybe you should think about playing Hamersley". We’re stunned. I’ll cut a long story short; we played 9 on the Old in record time, barely saw another group. We’ve decided to take the ’professional’ advice of the Wembley staff and play Hamersley in future.

Played in the golf network comp last wednesday on the Tuart course what a wonderful time. The course was great greens perfect. Bit tight so had to put the driver away on some holes but good to play a course that you needed to play most clubs in the bag off the tee! Played with some miners who also enjyed the course. Good vlaue for money greens as good as anywhere, the new driving range is awesome and worth hitting some balls to loosen up. Will be a regular.

Paid the new twilight plus rate for $15 which started at 3pm, could have waited till 4pm and paid $10.50 but managed to get in 12 holes.
Played holes 10-18 on the Tuart Course and it was in great condition, no rain for the last week seemed to have helped, fairways in particular were excellent.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, seems like you get what you give in regards to customer service, be nice and you get nice back. Best driving range in Perth by a big margin, shop looks likes its got better with stock selections as well.

Nice to see I’m not alone in feeling this arrogant bunch of staff and pros are ruining this nice layout. Today got held up on the back nine by teaching pro teaching short game to one student. Why not use the "great new practice facility" that all of us are paying for now? Told the manager "john" after being assaulted by him before I could explain my frustration, that I’ll give wembley a miss from now on. Too many courses around perth that are as good or better that have staff that know how to treat the golfers. I play alot of golf so "John" if you want to have a hit, call me, you have my number, it just won’t be at Wembley.

Old Roy boy sounds like you just cant get enough of Wembley . Its guys like yourself who us regulars at Wembley wish would stay at Burswood Collier or were ever, just stay away from Wembley and do us all a favour. I love the coffee s the range the back 9 of the tuart and the hottie named Sara in the proshop . I guess 1 person in the 160,000 the course gets a year can be as sad as you , just stay away and let the rest of us keep on enjoying the biggest and the best . Cheers Roy

Arrogant staff ruin this place for me….I loathe walking into that pro-shop with the staff who are both unfriendly and think they are ’it’. With a money hungry council thrown into the mix….the average golfer is better served by visiting this course occasionally rather than as their weekend regular. Maylands, Collier Park and Burswood offer much more ’relaxed’ value for the average hack……Further Twilight rules and the cost of range balls are just ridiculous….

I would like to complain about twilight tee time(9 holes). Why the course just not get rid of this promotion I regret myself to been told of twice during waiting for payment must 5.00PM sharp!! . Lot of people lined up and try to pass your queue therefore have not much dignity left. We chose tuart course and started the second group, but can not see my ball when I reach to last hole. Please consider twice before play twilight.

Awesome driving range , must be the best in Australia.36 holes of challenging golf for only $28 during the week . Got my clubs re gripped on the spot and the new smartly dressed operations manager got me booked in for a Mizuno club fitting day in a weeks time . All is good at the Wembley people . Try it out yourself.

To be honest every week it’s getting harder and harder to justify the green fees……to be honest the old course is the much better of the two and the only course really worth playing, but it hard to justify with the grumpy, uptight staff in the proshop who don’t seem to appreciate how much money the public pump into their outrageously over priced merchandise. Its just pure greed.

What the hell is wrong with the staff and management at Wembley Golf Course. I’ve played there consistently for 15 years, and right now, it’s touch and go for me and about a dozen others as to whether we’ll ever play another round there. Is the course a fine test of golf? You bet. Is it good value? Maybe. It’s right on the edge of the max of what you’d pay for a public course; a few bucks more and you can play Joondalup or any number of sensational resort courses. Wembley’s biggest issue is the way it is run. Depending upon who you talk to, it’s either the ridiculous rules the council imposes upon the staff, or the ridiculous staff. I think it’s a bit of both, but it’s likely more the latter than the former. If it’s not the snarling woman who talks to you like a cranky, primary school tuck-shop mum, it’s the arrogant young bloke who seems to think he’s doing you the world’s biggest favour by taking your money to play on his course. You’ll get told twice in 30 secs by different people not to bring your clubs into the pro-shop, despite whatever sound reason you may have (can you re-grip all my irons, please?) or the lack of a sign telling you not to. You’ll have fun being unable to pay for twilight golf until the stroke of 5pm, despite having arrived, cash-in-hand, at 4:45pm. You might get a cranky old bloke in a cart telling you to hurry up, despite playing up the arse of the group in front all day. The list goes on and on. It’s a fine course with great facilities, but the management and staff need an attitude adjustment, and soon.

Have played there a few times lately. The winter grass and weeds between fairways frequently mean a lost ball and, being a public course, add considerable time to any round. At $33.50 for 18 holes on a weekend Wembley is beginning to price itself out of the public course market.
Concessions are not available on weekends, money hungry.

Played the back 9 of Tuart course, enjoyed the undulating fairways, and the greens were very consistent, the best I’ve played on, the course is tight and rewards accuracy over distance, anything off the fairways is nearly unplayable, would play more often if not so far away, great set up with new driving range and 36holes to choose from guarantees you a spot.

Had a round on the "Tuart Course" at the Wembley Golf Complex a few days ago. Really enjoyed the layout which is short, tight and undulating, has some water hazzards on the front 9 which adds some challange. Conditions were great from tee to green for a public course and I definitely recommend a hit there if you havn’t ventured there before. Can’t wait to come back and play the "Old Course", favourite holes were..4,5,6,7,9,11,15 & 16.

Agree with the positive reviews. Great course at an affordable price ($ 28 for 18 holes. Much much better than Burswood and not too far away from Perth CBD. Well maintained and fun course.

Definetly the best public golf course in perth very well maintained and very fun for a round of golf and its just north of the city great practise facilities as well

The Old Course at Wembley is one of my favourites. Although it is a public course, it is maintained so well, that if they offered memberships, I would definatley join!

It is a challenging course, where you do not want to venture too deep into the rough, but is a very enjoyable experience

Played the old course a year ago and found it to be a good test for a public course. in fact I believe its one of the toughest public courses that is close to the city of Perth. The fairways must be hit on some holes or your ball can run into trouble to the extent that you will just be able to chip out sideways. This course is very well priced and has a good undulative layout, with bigger greens and more bunkering than Maylands and Whaleback. The only criticism I have however is the slowness of the greens, which always seem to be like this when I play there. In saying that, I’ll give it 3 stars which I consider a good rating for a public track.

PROS

  • Price is affordable and the course is easy to get on with a booking, good layout for better golfers as well as beginners

Cons

  • Greens are usually on the slow side and the course is unforgiving for beginners, though it will make them better players

Played 9-holes on the Old Course today and had a ball. While the rain interrupted our play once the day was otherwise pleasant. Fairways are open and inviting with bunker and mid-fairway tree placement the real challenge. Laying up proved the best option most of the time here. A great “hilly” course. Greens were ok with a little bit of odd looking “weed” grass growing amongst the otherwise true stuff. All round a great day

Played the tuart course on the sunday. Course is in great nick greens are very hard and firm. Green keeper had some real nice pin placement which made for a tough day. All in all in very good cond one of best public couses in perth at the moment.

I played the Wembley track for the first time today as i live south of the river. This is without doubt the best public course in Perth. Fairways in tremendous condition and greens were reasonably true. I noticed a lot of new bunkers are being installed which will only add to the course. Great value for $21, highly recommend

Had a fun biff on the Tuart 9 last week. Doglegs abound just in the right places to catch out off line tee shots and keep you thining that a chain saw would have been the right 14th club to put in the bag. Seriously though it had been years since I played there and it was a pleasure in good company.

The old course is a great public golf course. I play here regularly and the course is always in great condition. Not the longest course out there so if you’re on-song off the tee you can shoot a good score. Can get pretty packed in the weekends though and can result in some very slow rounds… but it is a public course. Good variety in the holes and very good facilities. Excellent value for money.

Marginally longer than the Tuart course by 119m but the Old course is probably not worth a Par 73. The five par 5s here are quite weak ranging from 410-450m, with the 4th having a mature tree on the right centre of the fairway around the landing area of your tee-shot.

The four Par 3s range from 150-170m with the 6th being my favourite of the lot, with an elevated front facing green with bunker on right. All holes have thick tree-lined rough with sandy soils underneath, making regulation on the hole quite difficult, if you miss the fairway.

Wembley’s Tuart and Old courses are unique for interstate travellers as Sydney doesnt have the space for such quality courses with a great driving range and practice facilities. Both courses are not overly challenging, but playing here as recently as 26/4/07 and paying $21 green fees more than enough to bring golfers back here.

wembley is older style design course, short and dog legged.

i think this course has to the best value for money, 36 hole, huge driving (although it is astro turfed), great bar.

the fairways are always well cared for; lush, mowed, full grass coverage to the bush.

greens are well cared for. a little slow for my liking but a true roll to say the least.

i always enjoy these courses

This is one of my local courses. Beautiful course to say the least. Amazingly well kept course , friendly staff, floodlit driving range and putting/chipping green.

Definately two thumbs up :)

Best public course in Perth that leaves alot of private courses for dead, hadn't played Wembley for a few years and was in disbelief how good it was and how much it had improved. The greens were in great condition for how busy it gets and play was quick. There were some new tees, greens and bunkering and lakes!

For $22 it was the best spent green fees I paid recently and will be back here instead of what I've paying for elsewhere.

I played at Wembley last Friday and had a great nine hole round, if i had the time i would have loved to play a full 18. The fairways are well groomed as well as the tee-off and greens. This is a great course to play and i will be playing here more often.

I am a regular at this golf course and I have seen it go though its ups and downs. At the moment though it is doing very well, with major work having been completed to both the courses. There are 36 holes on the course and the new course has water that has been added recently. It can get very packed on weekends and overall its quite easy, but great for an enjoyable game of golf.

32. golfer91 | Rated | 18 Feb 2006 | Add A Review

The Old Course I think is a great course. It can be a challenge and the fairways and greens are in good condition. The first hole is a great opportunity to get off to a good start because it is a par 5 and is not the longest so there is a birdie opportunity. Overall I think this course could be challenging for even a good golfer and is still enjoyable for a beginner.
