Played here the other day and i must say this course is in very good condition. The course is not a world beater by any means, however it is a nice and well conditioned layout.
The course is rather straight with not many dog legs or suprises along the way. One thing I will say is that this course is rather long, with one of the par 5’s being 533m long. The par 3’s are all around the 150m mark with a few bunkers along the way.
With the amount of rain we have had of late this course is very green, yet it is still quite hard underneath which leads me to believe that once the rain dries up this course will dry up rather quickly.
I would recommend this course to people, however if you have to drive a distance to get here I would say there are better courses around

PROS

  • Very picturess course
  • Nice layout

Cons

  • Fairway was still quite hard despite the massive amount of rain we have had
  • Dead tree in mide of fairway on the 16th par 5
  • They have a fantastic bar/restaurant that overlooks the course. Only problem is they only serve dim sims or potato cakes...WTF???
  • Bunkers were only near the greens, no fairway bunkers at all

Measures 6247m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 130-189m, ten par 4s ranging from 310-395m and four par 5s ranging from 483-533m. Course is flat although the 1st,2nd, 3rd and 18th are located above the majority of the course.

Greens were slowish, but smooth. Fairways were patchy, but mostly green. Teeboxes were mostly bumpy and in poor condition. Bunkers were inconsistent some having plenty of sand, whilst others had a thin covering under foot.

Highlights include:

  • strange OOB right of the path along the 163m 3rd with bunker left and right.
  • The 493m 11th with the Werribee River OOB along the right from tee to green, to a bunkerless green.
  • 384m slight dogleg right 14th with bunker left and right guarding the green.
  • The 533m 16th slightly doglegs right with water hazard left along the fairway, a dead tree stump in the middle of the fairway to negotiate around on your second shot with 3 bunkers guarding the green right and short.
  • 189m slightly uphill 17th to a green guarded by 4 bunkers.
  • short 310m slight dogleg 18th with 3 fairway bunkers left with 3 dams further left of the bunkers, to a green guarded by 4 bunkers.

Played here 10/8/2010 and paid $27. Apart from the 3 finishing holes and the Werribee River the course has an unspectacular, boring layout. Back nine is definately the more memorable and challenging…

Played Thursday afternoon and was very enjoyable, great variety of holes, short holes are challenging.
Great day of golf, one of my favourite courses.

OK, what did I think of Werribee Park?

Pretty average, nice setting, fairways very rough in patches, allowing for the fact that greens had been cored earlier in the week they were still patchy.

If Werribee is any indication of Vic courses I can see why buggies with suspension are favoured in this state, paths and some second cut areas were as rough as guts.

Bunkers were very deep, steep, and sand hard packed, fortunately didn’t find many of them.

The weather was fantastic and the round only cost $29 for two of us. The bar was closed, couldn’t get a beer when finished.

Enjoyed the round but mainly due to the weather and pleasant surroundings.

Would I play it again? maybe.

Forgot to mention the areas of rough sign posted (beware snake habitat) Drop a ball in there as we did and there is not a lot of motivation to go stamping around in the long grass trying to find it :(

Werribee is a great public golf course if you like a bit of a distance challenge. The fairways are wide and very inviting and the greens are consitent and challenging. If you are a mid to low handicapper this is a great course to challenge your long and short game. Not a strtegy course per say but can bring up the odd challenge or two. Without doubt a better course after a bit of rain.

Quite an easy course with minimal bunkering. Fairways are in reasonable condition and greens are rolling true and fair.

Most of the course is quite standard except for a few that run along the coastline with beautiful views. Overall a good day out playing golf if you aren’t out to test your skills.

I have only played this course once but i enjoyed it and the greens were good but fair. And the fariwways need improvement and it was a long course with very few bunkers.

Whilst nothing special it isn’t the worst course going round, and maybe I was merely there on a bad day. But due to groups before mine running late I teed off 45 mins after the scheduled time, and the round took forever as players on the course didn’t grasp the concept of letting other groups through.

The course itself – fairways not in the best nick, greens are true and pretty good, mix of bland and interesting holes.

I would disagree entirely with the comments by Printer78 in this courses reviews below.

The course condition is nothing like this gentlemen describes and I would say that this course only gets better with time.

The fairways are excellent and I would suggest that if he was experiencing bare lies then he certainly did not find the fairway on any of his shots.

I guess its not uncommon for someone who has had a bad round to blame the course or his equipment for that matter.

This is further supported and reflected with his rating being the only one for this course at the lowest level.

After having just played Werribee Park I must say that its got to be described as one excellent golf course.

Considering that so many courses are drying out with the current drought Werribee is in terrific condition with awesome greens and green fairways.

The course is quiet compared to so many located on major roads and possesses some of the best views of any metropolitan club in Melb.

The par 5's are a challenge as are the par 3's.

I loved this course and would recommend it to anyone as a great place to enjoy a round.

Go for it.

This course has fallen by the wayside in recent years, there is fair reason I suppose but it's best it not be published here.

The fairways are rock hard, some with very little grass coverage & on some holes you're probably better off in the first cut of rough, whilst the sand in the bunkers also leaves a lot to be desired.

The greens, whilst being large & inviting are two paced from one hole to the next also.

There are some highlights though, the par 5's in particular. Whilst they are long, par is fair reward for a hole well played. The 18th also is a challenging finish, stray left or right & you're in trouble but keep it straight & you can easily set yourself up for a birdie putt.

Weribee is situated on K road east of the town where the mansion and zoo exist. It is an interesting course built on clay soil.Four holes are on top of hill along with the clubhouse. The rest of the course is in a valley. The course is over 6200 m long and plays to a par 72.The greens are large and bunkers deep in some situations.Water comes into play on many holes which adds to the challenge.Werribee has great variety in the par 3sranging from 122m to the 180m par3 17th that is up the hill so it plays more like 200m.The par 5s are excellent as wellThe 9th can be reached in 2,but the second must negotiate water both sides and a raised green with a bunker blocking much of the front. The down hill 4th is 499m and beautiful whilst the 11th is at the furthest point from the clubhouse and has the river on the right. The 16th is 533m long. You can aim at the dead gum tree as a safe shot or take of some of the corner off where the hill is.The hole goes to the right.Werribee is long for the average golfer ,but the fairways are wide and inviting. If you get achance to have a drink in the club house do so because the view of the course is one of the best going around. Finally the 18th must be metioned a 310m par 4 with the hill on the right ,water and 3 fairway bunkers on the left. To have the best shot into the hole you must aim over the 15m drop.A great short par 4

When we played it was windy and that added to a course that is already 6000 metres. The white tees were on average about 10 metres in front of the blue so it really played to it's length. The rough was almost impossible to find a ball and oob and water come in to play regularly. The greens were tricky but are large and the approaches had strategic bunkers that were mostly deep but plenty of sand (if raked). Need to use a lot of fairway woods if you can't hit 240 off the tee. That said it was in good condition and every hole was different. Scenic course and despite our high scores we will be back, perhaps not in winter though.
