What a fun little course. Funny surroundings, but truly challenging course. Great for beginners like me; all the players are friendly and happy to offer tips to improve. So much better than a driving range.

Drinking on the course by players can make a round painful slow. Last round of 9 took 2 3/4 hours.

I’ll be back next week for membership $440 a year.

PROS

  • Short and challenging.
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Alcohol on course

For the green fee, this course is probably the best VFM in Melbourne. Excellent fairways, brutal rough, greens are a bit up and down though.
Its better practice than a driving range anyday at the price of a large bucket of balls.
A great course for beginners, since there is no one hassling you to get on with it…

PROS

  • Fairways
  • Price

Cons

  • Greens

The course has improved out of sight.
Bing, give up drinking and try playing golf.

still hasn’t improved….cheap crownies though, you can sit there and drink and not actually venture out onto the course…

I’ve been playing on-and-off at this course for about six months. Fairways are in good shape but the greens are a little unpredictable. Some easy holes and some that are a challenge to get the right length (position of the creek on the second and fourth makes shot selection important). Dog-leg par three is a wierd hole.
I think the biggest problem is the pro-shop: not the staff who are friendly enough but it is not at the same standard as Altona or other nearby public courses. A bit of money spent here would change the way people see the course entirely.

PROS

  • Not likely to get bored by the scenery
  • Close to the city
  • Cheap and can be layed after work (90 minutes tops)

Cons

  • $4 Stella stubbies!
  • Afternoon dog walkers on the course can be a distraction

Underrated course that tends to get bagged for being located in the west. Short course with elevated small greens, bunkers, water hazards.
Fairways can be dry in summer.
Course is trickier than it looks with unusal angles tee to green.

Cheap and easy that is the nicest way to describe the course.
This course wont be winning any awards for its scenery, layout or up keep. However it is a short course that can be good for improving ones short game. The par 3 5th hole would be one of the hardest par 3’s I have played anywhere. Hitting the green in one is near on impossible.

PROS

  • Cheap
  • Short, so easy for a low score

Cons

  • Not in the best condition

Nice review furball, but I would like to tell it how it is. Westgate (Spotty) is a cheap nine holes and has 4 par 3’s and short par 4’s so you can focus on your approach shots more (depends what time of year you are playing as you may be playing off some bare ground in the middle of summer). Good course for beginners or people trying to improve short game. Greens are always watered but normally a little furry, slow and patchy.
And its the only course to have the Westgate Bridge running over it and a train running along the 8th and 9th hole! It’s an experience for sure.
Not my type of course, but if the area give it a go and enjoy the serenity of the power lines and the rattling of the trains!
Happy Hitting!

PROS

  • Short Course
  • 4 par 3s
  • Normally quick rounds

Cons

  • Trains on 2 holes
  • If busy, course can be dangerous
  • Fairways in summer
  • greens always green but not cut short
  • Plumbing tube for flags (chips don't drop)
  • Traffic on Freeway

a good cheap urban course with many eye opening features sludge river, grafitti wall, aboandon abestos building, train line, drains and ofcourse the big bridge but still makes a challenging afternoon budget price budget golf!

I would rather eat my left testicle than play at this course again. If "The Castle" were a golf course, this would be it. Dale Kerrigan actually hit up on me on the 6th and then challenged me to a fight.

Lowlights include, graffiti riddled storm drains, those huge powerlines, V-line trains down the 8th (hope you don’t have a hook, you’ll take out the whole line), burnout laden greens, the stench, bogans sweeping the carpark (keep the callaways hidden), oh and of course one enormous foooking bridge……

This has to have one of the worst lay outs for a golf course ever but if you are a beginner it may be a little bit of fun for you. Greens are inconsistent, the water hazards are funny, and their is an odd hole that shares the green with another. The par 3 around a tree is pretty funny too. Great for a social game if you are planning on getting trashed ir something. Cheap as chips during the week if you are looking to get a practice round in, $12 all day.

Strange place for a golf club, under the biggest & busiest bridge in Melb. Good track for those starting ouy=t on there game. Careful cause I heard “fore” called a least 20 times during my round. Not as easy as it looks. But for a golfer who get around a little I’ll give it a miss next time. Feature hole would be the 8/17th hole next to the power transformer a few locals croming with spray cans. But if you look past all this you’ll love it

A one of a kind golf course, nothing like it in Melb.

What other course can a wayward shot have the possibility of hitting the westgate freeway onramp, a storm water drain (complete with abandoned bicycle), an abandonded warehouse, the vline rail track or a scrap yard?

Walk On tee times and free from the pretension of other courses i have recently played and is in suprisingly good nick (low player numbers i guess?)

Nice price, and great to invite golf snobbish mates to for a laugh (ahh the serenity!)

Confusing layout though, maybe put a map on the scorecard?

Preety much one of the worst courses in melbourne. The area is dirty, not much parking and smells of fuel. The greens were terrible. If you landed in the fairway, you mights as well landed in the rough. The people who play there didn’t look like golfers. Though the prices were cheap, i might as well played at Alotona Lakes 5 minutes away for 3$ more.

PROS

  • Its cheap.

Cons

  • Too many to list.

I hope I turned up to this course on a bad day. The greens were pathetic. Grey sand covering 25-45% of all greens. I was hitting my putts harder than my drives. The course is confusing. A par 9 trying to be a 18. Trains, cars, graffiti, if this is your idea of golf then all welcome. I play of 18 I shot 3 over after 9 because I could not play another 9. The par 3’s on this course are though are really fun. And hard. Is worth a visit for these.

I started playing here 15 years ago and progressed to a scratch marker five years later so proved to be a good starter! Always in fairly good nick and is very challenging. A par three around a bend, a long driver mid iron par 4 and a good selection of well laid out short par threes. This course is short but no snack, smallish elevated greens, tricky mounds and difficult lies. Pars on some holes at little westgate are well earned. This course is perfect for an after work social round. Friendly patronage and cheap rates. Check it out.

I’ve been playing this course for about a month now and love it!

I only started playing golf 4 months ago and this course is excellent for a beginner. With undulating hills, a water hazard on 4 of the holes and challenging greens this course inspires one to return and play some challenging shots.

The course is lush with all the winter rain and the westgate freeway offers a great urban backdrop to many of the holes.

Sunday mornings are members tournaments, so get in their early on Saturday!

Hope this helps

The main thing this course has going for it is value for money. $17 for 18 holes on a weekend and it is relatively quiet with not too much traffic. There is enough variety with the holes to keep you interested and is in fairly good nick for the price you pay. Check it out if your after a cheap, quick game.

Pretty good value for 9 holes. For the middle of a drought and water restrictions, this course was in pretty good condition.

Fairways were in average to good condition, however the greens are in excellent condition!

Not such a busy course, especially last Saturday, with no groups in front or behind. Only complaint is that a couple of the par 4’s were perhaps a little long.

Overall, definately worth the money.

Under the bridge. Short par 3 opener, bunkers at the front, freeway behind. Don't be long on this hole or the Geelong bound lanes may suffer!

The greens are very good and the fairways not too bad for a dry season. There is a doozie of a Par 3 hole 5 I think, I never had a birdie op and I never quite cracked the course. Good for a Saturday morning hit as members play on Sunday. It's a short course but it's better than Altona or the driving range.
