The Patawalonga course is maintained in a high standard. Fairway is very nice when you walking on it. I enjoyed this course very much and would recommend anyone who is looking for a good golf course to play in Adelaide.

The Adelaide Shores Patawalonga course at the Westward Ho Golf Club measures 5924m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 124-167m, ten par 4s ranging from 294-406m and four par 5s ranging from 471-485m.
Course has wide kikuyu fairways with patches of couch with even some rye grass/kikuyu in the rough. The 13th hole along the public driving range has a fully couch grass fairway. The medium sized bent grass greens are smooth with good speed. The teebeds are couch with the 16th having kikuyu grass. There are 42 bunkers on the course with every hole bunkered.
Highlights include: the 401m Par 4 straight 8th (index 2) with a bunker middle splitting the fairway about 100m out from the 30m long front-sloping green with bunker short right; the 361m slight bend right 11th (index 3) with 2 fairway bunkers left off the tee to a green with 2 shortside bunkers; the 167m 12th (index 9) has a huge green with 2 rightside bunkers; the 475m slight dogleg right 13th (index 11) with fairway bunker left off the tee and another bunker 100m short of the green on the right at the dogleg corner to a green with 2 bunkers; and the 406m slight dogleg left 14th (index 1) with 2 fairway bunkers along the leftside to a green with a bunker short left.
Shame holes 14 & 15 are affected by Tapleys Hills Road traffic noise as they are quite good holes. The 9th and 18th are short weak par 4 finishing holes and the par 5s are a reasonable length but not varied enough.
Played here 26/09/2011 with $24.50 green fees or $18 twilight after 3pm. Course access is from Military Road in the beachside suburb of West Beach.

Played the par 60 a couple of days ago and enjoyed it as my first 18 hole course ive played in a while. It is not overly challenging and only offers 6 par fours in the hole course, but is still worth the trip down to ’Adelaide Shores’. For a student it’s only $11.50 which is cheap for a 18 hole course and prices are not much more for an adult round. The course is relatively flat and the greens are in some places challenging with various pin placement.
Pro’s
well kept fairways and greens.
Con’s
few par fours

When you play a bit of golf there is always a course that you just play well, and this is mine.
Its pretty wide open and if you miss a fairway most of the time you will still have a shot. The greens are a little on the slower side but are true.
When my games not going well I normally have a round here and get it back on track, one day after having 50 off the stick on the front nine I came home in 36. Your game just comes back to you.

The Westward Ho golf club has 2 courses available for play - the Patawalonga course and the shorter less demanding Executive 60. I recommend the Patawalonga course - the Executive 60 is more suited to beginners or if you want to hone your short game, it has no par fives and 12 par 3's. The Patawalonga course is 6034 metres in length and is situated near the coast in metropolitan Adelaide. The course is very popular on weekends due to its seaside location but if you are willing to wait a little while they can usually fit you in. But its probably better to ring first to get a tee time. I played on a Wednesday and my round progressed without too many holdups. The course is in good condition with good drainage due to the sand base - I have been able to play this course after rain periods with no problems where other courses would have been unplayable. Most fairways are tree-lined and there are a couple of water hazards around but you shouldn't have too much trouble if you venture into the rough. The biggest enemy on this course is definitely the wind. The sea breeze is always from the south west in Adelaide and the course designers have cleverly(nastily?) put some of the holes running in a south westerly direction. The 14th fits into this category - a 410m par 4 that is rated as the hardest hole and rightly so. If the wind is blowing even the big hitters wouldnt reach this in two. There are also some holes that run the other way with the wind, the 2nd par 3 for example, so club selection becomes critical. There are plenty of bunkers on the course - the 8th hole for example has a bunker in the fairway so you either have to aim to the right of it or be confident enough that you will clear it. So there are some holes where you will need to think before going with the driver.
In summary the Patawalonga course at Westward Ho golf club is a good challenging course with plenty of variety. For visitors to Adelaide it is near the airport and the beach so would be a good choice if you are staying in the area.

The Adelaide Shores Executive 60 course at the Westward Ho Golf Club measures 3294m Par 60 with twelve par 3s ranging from 102-184m and six par 4s ranging from 233-281m.
Course has some quite lush kikuyu fairways on its par 4 holes and around the green surrounds. The small-to-medium sized bent grass greens are generally flat with little break with smooth reasonable roll but not fast. There are 10 bunkers on the open short tree-lined course. Greens are the same quality as the southern Patawalonga course.
Highlights include: the opening 269m straight 1st (index 1) with a red-staked drainage channel on the right and a bunker 30m short of the bunkerless green; the 167m 3rd (index 3) with a 20m long, narrow and undulating bunkerless green; the 132m slightly uphill 13th (index 14) with a bunker short; the 265m slight dogleg right 16th (index 2) with a fairway bunker 50m short of the green in the middle of the fairway to avoid; and the 152m slightly downhill 17th (index 4) with a bunker short left.
Played here 26/09/2011 with $17 green fees. Course access is from Military Road in the beachside suburb of West Beach. Course is more suited for the beginner or less frequent golfer.
