Windaroo is an exelent course to play on. It gives some very challenging hole like Snakes Gully, 17th and even Hecks Revenge is a well designed hole. The 10th and 12th are in marvelous condition considering they we under water when the flood came but they have grown back very well. I will mention this to all of my friend and will defenitely recomened this course to others. It was challenging for me but I still managed to get around the course in just under 4 hours. 2 thumbs up this is one of the best courses in Brisbane.

Played the course in Aug 2007. For $33 on the weekend it is outstanding value. The course was designed by Ross Watson and has more than a few memorable holes. The fairways were in great condition. Extremely lush considering the drought. The 15th par 3 over water, 16th snake gully hole and 17th par 4 dog leg right were definitely the highlights.
The greens were a problem. They were nice and green, but the slowest i have ever played on. I have never whacked the ball so hard. It was like playing on thick carpet.
Another problem was the course was definitely overbooked. Took us 4.5hrs walking with 2 people. We had to wait for 2 groups to tee off at each hole.
If the greens and course management were fixed this could be one of the better courses in Bris.

I played Windaroo for the first time on Oz Day, and was extremely impressed. So impressed in fact, I had to go back for a second round two days later.
The fairways are spectacular given the brisbane conditions, these are the best in Brisbane. The Greens re consistant and in great condidtion. The bunkers are mediocrea t best, which is this courses only negative.
Overall a very challenging cousre, keeps you interested the whole time.
I'll be back time and time again for sure.

I played Windaroo for the first time. It is a great course, which is in great condition. It is quite a challeging course, which rewards accuracy.
The fairways are the best I have played in the Brisbane region recently, as we have severe water restrictions, and if you are on the fairways you will have a great lie.
The greens are a challenge, but the pace is consistent around the course, so once you have the pace of the greens, your putts will drop.
There are twoy disappointing aspects of Windaroo. The first is the lack of distance markers. The fig trees at 150 metres are difficult to spot and most sprinkler heads don't have markings on them. The second disappointing aspect is the poor condition of the bunkers. They are almost like dirt.
I must say that at $33.00 a round this is the best value for money course in the Brisbane area. It was a great experience, and I will definitely play again.

Played windaroo on Ekka show day. Surprising the course was very busy but the course is well spread out to avoid delay. The fairways were better or as good as most others on the coast. The only bad thing I have to say is when your ball finds the rough, dont count on finding it!! The greens mostly read true and there is a good range of holes and facitlities. Would recomend to all!!

I played this course about 4 weeks ago and I must say, I was impressed. The course design is challenging and the overall condition of the fairways and greens was superb. I'm a member of another club in the area, and this course is holding up much better than my home course with the lack of rain Brisbane has been experiencing lately. Nice Bar area, friendly staff and worth the trip. Recommended.

Chewman don't show your ignorance, if you knew what it cost to maintain an average 18th hole golf course, how did you expect top notch condition for $48 per round. Windaroo is not for the high handicap player which you obviously are. The roughs are maintained at a high height to give good definition and character. As far as I know all roughs are mowed every week. Your comments are laughable, maybe you and your mates should go back to playing council courses where you can get a burger and drink with your $10 green fee.

windaroo is the best value gc in brisbane, no doubt. was driving 25 minutes just to play it most sundays, enjoyed it so much i became a member (18 months now). fairways are fantastic, great cover and never a bad lie. greens have come up brilliantly after recent scarifying (an unfortunate but necessary evil). the layout will test ur skills, the sometimes blustery conditions will test ur mettle, but it remains one of the most relaxing courses to walk.
potential to shoot low of the whites, with good course management. some very tempting, teasing and challenging holes from the blues.
i've never had a problem with the rough at the 'roo, does tend to thicken up but the point is to stay out or be penalised with a tough out. on the greens situation, they recently underwent a major scarification, and even though its a source of frustration for members and visitors, its an important and necessary process. always check on the greens situation whenever booking anywhere!
enjoy!

I was just reading Mr chewman review and as a long time member of windaroo i played most days runing up to the easter long weekend and i can tell him that the rough was cut that week and is cut every week. maybe Mr chewman and his group should stay on the fairway.(but that would be hard with 3 first time playes). The greens are just comeing out of Renovations. i played on them today and they are runing good. the fairways are in graet shape. i think that the couse is worth its $30 greenfee..

Maybe it was the fact that it was Easter Friday that the course hadnít seen a lawn mower in the last 5 days or so but our experience with Windaroo Lakes has left a sour taste in our mouths.
Each of the players in our group lost more then 1 ball that was less then 3m off the fairways in the 4î or more of rough. As for the greens, I have putted in torrential rain and the ball goes faster then it did on Friday in dry conditions. The greens had the slow pace and same amount of grass on them as the tees did at Royal Pines!
For the $48 green fee (including cart) I expect more from a supposed top-notch course.
In our group, we had 3 first time players on that course and it was also the last time they will venture to Windaroo Lakes.

I don't wish for this issue to become prolonged, but the responses to my review evidently missed the point/s I was trying to make - my group was moving at very reasonable speed, other groups simply caught up. We followed the local rules, allowed them to play through, and were subsequently caught up in a jam. If we had been shown any kind of respect at all, we would have taken our money and returned at a more convenient date. It's attitudes like the one displayed by the pro shop staff that make newcomers to the game nervous about playing a game already steeped in rules and tradition. As for this overall 'slow play annoys' attitude, even the pros on TV have to wait when the group ahead finds a hazard. For god's sake, isn't part of golf taking in the surroundings while playing the game? If you want things to move at exactly the pace you want, play chess.

The course is privately owned and open to the public. Regarding jtrinder long complaint/review. Slow play is not wanted especially on busy days and I prefer staff having a word to anybody holding things up.
The course condition has improved over the last 2 years. The greens are well maintained and medium speed. The layout is well liked by many golfers but is not easy for unskilled players.

You might look at my rating and wonder why it's so much lower than how others have rated it, so let me clear up the confusion now - my problem exists not with the beautiful course, but with staff whose behaviour bordered close to harrassment.
To cut a long story down to the big details, myself and two friends had booked in a social game on a Friday morning. We arrived on time and teed off. After three holes, we noticed a group of three right behind us. Bearing in mind that one of the local rules says to let faster players through, we let them pass. This was a good move - all three were long and straight off the tee.
We let one other fast group through when four players in carts turned up right behind us on the 5th tee. Thinking that because they were on carts they too would have a speed advantage, we resolved to let this group through too. We decided that this would have to be the last group we let play through. As it turned out, this group of 4 were of about the standard as our group, and the carts didn't help their progress much.
On the 6th tee, two course rangers in a cart showed up to speak to the cart players ahead of us. They then approached us, inquiring as to how many groups we'd let play through. After answering, one of them stated that every time we let a group through, it was causing pile-ups further back, and that this could prove disastrous for the corporate day they had planned.
This bald gentleman was obviously annoyed, so I tried to explain our reasoning to him so at least he could understand how the situation had developed. Rather than take on board our explanation, this gentleman declared that he had been 'playing the game for 10 years' and that 'I think I know what I'm talking about'. He obviously decided to treat our explanation as an argument when all we were trying to do was placate him. At this point, his younger, smirking, long-haired assistent declared that it would take us '6 hrs to have a round of golf', as if that's something unheard of.
We pressed on. As we waited on the 10th tee for the cart players ahead to move on, he approached again, this time inquiring as to why we weren't 'hitting up their @!#$*'. My friend explained that we didn't wish to hit right on top of them. At this point, the bald gentleman declared that the day was becoming a 'disaster', and that he was prepared to give us a full refund in exchange for leaving the course - in his tone of voice and demeanour, he was doing everything bar telling us to piss off.
I was ready to take his offer at that point, but my friends weren't, so we pressed on again. We became aware of the quality of 'corporate' player behind us - beers in hand while driving carts, taking mulligans whenever they felt the need, and seemingly not putting. Later on, my friends narrowly avoided being hit on the full without so much as a call of fore.
So at this point, what else can I say? The course was beautiful, but how can you enjoy it under those circumstances? We were only trying to do the right thing as visitors to the course from Toowoomba. If the danger of hold-ups was that great, we never should have been allowed to get on. We aren't great golfers, but we move at fair speed.
When I pay for a round of golf, I pay for the complete experience, not just the course. I don't pay to be treated like someone that doesn't deserve to be there. That's bad etiquette. That's unacceptable. That's the end of my golfing days at Windaroo Lakes.

This course is a wonderful layout and very enjoyable golfing experience. Snakes Gully is a fantastic hole and very challenging. The course itself is in great condition and has numerous holes which will test even the best players. Truly a championship calibre course, I will return and have no problem recommending it to others in the future.

Like Gringo, I have been an on and off member of Windaroo Lakes Golf Club for many years. I first started playing there when it was nine holes.
I concur with Gringo when I say it's a course that if not the best in south east queensalnd, it is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of playing, with every hole offering it's own unique challenge. It's also one of the best laid out courses I have ever seen or played in, Australia OR the United States.
I find it slightly confusing, where 'dtrain' considers the fairways are a bit short on grass giving less than favourable lies where you should have good ones, and 'apholden' thought the grass a bit long which took distance off his drives.
Personally, since renewing my membership earlier this year, I have found the course to be in great condition considering we are in drought, and equal to any of the more expensive courses in S.E.Q. with fairways having good grass cover allowing full connection with the ball with driver, fairway wood and irons.
A dissapointment is in some of the sand traps which play unfairly, due to insufficient sand to enable one to get under the ball to excute a satisfactory result.
WINDAROO: A GREAT Course in outstanding condition. A challenging course that will test all levels of players, with the par 4 Snakes Gully testing even the "big hitters", and according to a recent visitor from the north side of Brisbane, "an unknown gem which is reasonably priced".

I have been on and off a member at Windaroo for 10 years now and have seen it go through some changes. As former Home of the Qld open it was in my opinion one of the best courses in Qld and certainly the best value. Unfortunatly It was neglected for a few years but with new owners for the last year or so it's is starting to improve.
Windaroo has on of the best layouts in Golf and from the back markers can be an absolute nightmare, expecialy if the wind is blowing. This course will chalange every part of your game untill you get to Snake Gully(16-Hardest par4 in Australia) where it will destroy you. Overall Very good course even slightly out of condition it's still one of the best golf courses in Brisbane and has one of the best layouts in golf. Highly recomended and unbeatable value for this championship giant.

Any course that has hosted Qld Opens is deserved of a try. This course is very good because of that reason. Any budding golfer who wants to test themselves should try this course. It was set up for pro's and it will give you an honest indication of where your game is. Play it off the championship makers and it is quite a challenge. I found birdies hard to come by and only managed 2 but there are genuine chances to get some. The fairways are getting a bit short on grass and give you some less than favourable lies when you should have a good one. It's a beautiful course to look at and is well laid out. Some of the holes are the best I've played. From memory the par 3 14th (?) plays over water and looks magnificent. Then comes the hardest hole I've played the par 4 15th (?). This hole plays long and has an elevated tee. It was the first time I've ever had to lay up to a par 4 on my second shot and that will humble you. But it also inspires you to improve your game. All in all a very good course that just needs a bit of attention to the fairways to make it awesome. If I lived in Brisbane I'd be a member here. And all this for $25 green fee.

For a course I hadn't heard of a few months ago, I was very surprised at how good this course was. The course was in very good condition, and I found it tough to play, especially with the wind blowing (The wind always seemed to be blowing either across or into us, never from behind :( ).
I was also impressed by the course having a drinks cart doing the rounds during Sunday social golf. (I thought they only still did this at resort courses).
My only grumble would be, is that I thought the fairway grass was a bit long, which took distance off the drives and made the course play too long.
Although the course well and truly defeated me on the day, it was still an enjoyable round.

I have been a member at Windaroo for approx 7 years and in that time I have seen it host the Qld Open and also fall into disarray.
However with new owners, new ground staff and a some (very) new fairways the course is starting to look beautiful again. As always never easy and always a challenge especially when the wind starts to blow.

Played Windaroo, and must say that although I like this course, I found it very disappointing. The area that I found the most disappointing was the bunkers, which were really just dirt, and hard compacted dirt at that. The fairways were in quite good condition, but the greens were very slow, it took a big wrap to get the ball to the hole.
There are some very good holes, Snake Gully (16th) is one of the better holes around, with the winding creek through the hole. It has a good blend of par 3 4 and 5s, and it is another course that rewards straight hitiing, but does have some really good rewards for the long hitter prepared to take risks. This is evident in the 6th.
I would play again, but not in a hurry, it is a very good course that has poor conditioning on the greens and bunkers.
