This course has a lot of character. Some holes will reward a long hitter, others will reward the tactical game. Some very memorable holes, like the par 3 up the hill, and in all a very enjoyable golfing experience.

Most people who visit Yarrawonga head strainght for the Murray course, and miss out on playing what I consider to be it's equal, or even better cousin. It doesn't have the natural beauty of the Murray course, but that doesn't detract from the golfing experience. There are plenty of good golf holes, my favorite being the short par 4 8th. This hole gives a choice of anything from a 4 iron to a driver down the hill, either laying up or skirting a large pond which protects the small green. What follows, particularly if you'd laid up, is a terrifying short iron approach over the water to the very shallow green. Magic! Water also plays a big part in instilling terror into the player on the wonderful par 5 13th. After a trouble-free drive to a wide landing area, the player is left with a horrendous carry over the water towards a green cut high up into the side of a hill, or laying up with the water on one side and OOB on the other, then trying to negotiate a humungous redgum which partly blocks the line into the green. There are a few straight up and down par 4s towards the end, but overall this is one heck of a golf course that will challenge and entertain golfers of all standards.

Most golfers who have travelled Australia will be aware of the quality and popularity of Yarrawonga as a golf venue. It's rare to not have it's 45 holes well booked on any given day, and that is something considering it's a three hour drive from Melbourne and eight from Sydney.
The ads say more sunshine than Queensland and that's true. Of course it can be a touch nippy in the middle of winter, and oppressively hot in summer. But if you like a dry climate, like your golf and don't want to spend the money required to play resort courses in Queensland then there should be no difficulty in basing yourself in Yarrawonga. The courses are terrific, the club facilities more than adequate, and accommodation is fine.
Now the Lake Course? I would recommend playing it before the Murray, as you will appreciate the Murray more after the Lake Course. The Lake Course is so named because it does have a Lake, but don't assume it dominates the topography of the layout. Far from it. The front nine has only a couple of holes with water, and the back nine a couple more.
It is a quailty layout, undulating in some parts with large bunkers to challenge your nerve. The highlight hole is the par 5 13th along the road. A long drive must be accurate with out of bounds on the left, but without it the challenge of taking on the lake will be too great. Even if you do lay up, a nervy mid to short iron is need to hit an elevated green.
A good course to test your strokeplay on before taking on the big test.. The Murray Course.

i really do like this course. it has alot of great and outstanding holes. with some rewarding a long hitter and some rewarding a short hitter. Most people head straight to the murray course but i would say this course doesnt stand that far behind it.
