Picturesque Young Golf Club has often been described as the “Jewel of the South West”, and when you visit and play the course you will see why.
Young is a beautifully prepared and conditioned layout, with lush kikuyu fairways that roll out before you like carpet, and very fast and true bent greens. Measuring only 5618 metres, it is not overly long; however the tree lined and undulating fairways combine to set a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Even in the harshest of droughts, the Young Course still maintains a superbly manicured condition thanks to the use of recycled water.
Young Golf Club is a public course, and can be played in competition on any Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, or Public Holiday. Although the course is usually open to social play on most days, the best days for social golf are midweek, and Sunday.
Full clubhouse and bar facilities are available every day except Monday, and catering can be arranged as well.
The Pro shop is extensively stocked with every need for the golfer catered for, with the widest range of golf equipment in the area.
Golf carts and buggies are available for hire also at the Pro Shop.

Still measures 5618m Par 70 with four par 3s ranging from 145-208m, twelve par 4s ranging from 294-411m and two shortish par 5s ranging from 403-466m.
The short-medium sized pine, gum and eucalypt tree-lined layout has undulating kikuyu fairways which were yellow/green in early September. The bent grass greens were smooth and quick and amongst the best, if not the best, in the area. The greens were mostly front-sloping and smallish so remember to be below the hole.
The course has 25 bunkers but currently has 4 GUR bunkers, which may see 2 bunkers on the 7th, 1 bunker on the 10th and the left bunker on the 12th removed. There are also 5 small-medium sized storage dams/ponds on the course with most not coming into general play.
Highlights include: the long 411m Par 4 straight 8th (index 1) which plays downhill to the bunkerless green with OOB homes on the far right; the 208m Par 3 bunkerless 13th (index 5); the 178m 16th (index 3) with OOB Jasprizza Avenue on your left with 3 new bunkers on the right along the 2-tier front-sloping green; the 155m slightly uphill 17th with a teeshot over some water to a green guarded by a bunker short right and the 348m straight uphill 18th (index 9) with 2 shortside bunkers left and right.
I am not sure if I agree with the many 5-star “golf at its absolute best” reviews for Young as I am not really a fan of this hilly layout. The front nine seemed a little boring with you going up and back across the same hill with similar length par 4s, only to do it all again on the back nine.
Excluding the 8th the Par 4s are a little weak on length with no long irons into the greens, whereas the par 3s are varied in length with the 16th being the pick of the bunch. Oh yes, and the two token par 5s were short and unchallenging. Although the back nine is shorter I felt it was more challenging and interesting than front nine.
The course is located slightly higher than the CBD at approximately 440-480m above sea level. Course access is from William Street on the northern side of town.
Young has around 7200 people and is actually located on the south-west slopes of NSW about 35km (or 20 minutes) north-west of Harden and 50km (or 30 minutes) north of Cootamundra and 70km (or 45 minutes) south of Cowra.
Played here 6th September 2011 off the back plates in under 3 hours with $25 social green fees now and happy to Young is a well-conditioned course with excellent bent grass greens.
Although, Young is a Par 70 course and both Cootamundra and Harden are Par 71 courses, all 3 courses are very similar in length with hilly layouts. Overall, a decent country layout and a friendly club despite Young having the better greens, I still feel Cootamundra has a better course layout than Young.
