Located in the picturesque wine growing region of the Swan Valley and framed by the foothills of the Darling Ranges lies Western Australia’s premier golf course, The Vines Resort.

Course architects Graham Marsh and Ross Watson skilfully and strategically used the stunning landscape to produce championship courses that command respect. Bunkers and grassy hollows are dug to the optimum depth to penalise the errant shot. The landscaping areas on the fairways, for the most part, are generous enough for the average golfer, but a premium has been put on the consequence of finishing in either bunker or water if the ball goes astray.

The 36-hole layout consists of two world class championship courses the Lakes and Ellenbrook. The Ellenbrook Course is available 365 days a year and access to the Lakes member’s course, is available on nominated days throughout the year. The experienced golfers will find plenty of challenge from the championship tees while social players will have as much enjoyment from more generous tee positions.

this was our final course on the back of 7 days of glorious golf in perth! Vines lived up the the hype. A beautiful course set in the swan valley. The course was friendly off the tees with ample room for mistakes. Big greens and not too severe undulations. Water does not really come into play very much. Course was well groomed even after the greens were sanded a few weeks earlier. A very good pro shop too boot in as well.

Played the Vines (Lakes) Course yesterday in competition and found it to be a test indeed. You must not only drive the ball straight and long but hit your approaches at the flags. However the length of his course makes that very difficult to do, especially on the long par 4’s and so I struggled dismally to score well. Maybe next time I will have a bit more ‘local knowledge’ and not try to just blast away with the clubs I though I could hit and be ok with. A lot of course management is required around there. In saying that its one of the best courses I’ve ever played and harder than I thought. If you can shoot sub-80 around here you are a genius. Will definitely be back again in seek of scoring pleasure, even if it means more lost balls and pain :) its worth it.

A beautiful golf course; played last week and the weather was pretty ordinary with a couple of storms rolling through on our 18 holes. Tee shots are pretty intimidating for a bunch of B&C graders who didn’t know “where to miss” and if you hook or slice off the tee or for your second it’s reload time. We went through alot of ammo. Greens really test your nerve and imagination with little chips and pitches, makes you realise just how good the pros really are. Very scenic. Major gripe for the day? Ellerston was out of play and there were millions of people playing the Lakes, corporate day etc. we were pushing up to 5 hours for 16 holes when we pulled the pin with 3 groups on the tee. Waiting twenty minutes for a shot tends to stuff up your rhythm etc. I’d suggest more red stakes in the bush as it’s a good as dead, strok play here would be a nightmare!

This is a great course. Not for the faint hearted and just because you hit a green in reg does not mean that you do not have 30m still to get to the hole in some cases. The greens have been said by The Big Easy to be the best they got to play on every year. Year round now the course is on average in better nick than it was when it was peaked for big bashes.

The front 9 is technically trickier to play than the back 9 even without the water being about. Pay attention on the front 9 and the back will just flow.

The Par 3 4th if the pin is back and left is one of the hardest pins to hit anywhere. The 18th is one which will catch the non thinkers and blowhards out.

A must play course at some stage of your golfing career be it social or comp.

Played the Vines Lake Course recently whilst on a trip to Perth. The course was a great course for a reasonable price if using discounts available. The course is quite difficult, but quite fair with many chances to take advantage of opportunities, but these opportunities have plenty of risks associated, the last hole gives the opportunity to go for the green in two if you are prepared to carry the water, this a good example of the risk reward scenarios available.

The course is very well maintained with the fairways being in great shape. At this time of the year there is plenty of roll. The bunkers are the best maintained that I have played in, and the greens are quick, tricky, and challenging, but in great shape. The buggies all have GPS.

I would recommend that anyone that wants to play a great course plays the Vine Lake Course. I certainly will again.
