I played there last weekend. The course had nice greens and well maintained fairways. Teeing off on a par three to start was an interesting change and the best hole of the course has to be the 18th.

As others have mentioned, one or two of the holes have hidden traps. Hole #2 was a nasty one. We’d been looking at the sign at the tee which indicated two lots of sand bunkers but the first lot of “sand” was actually water. The card indicated water there but it didn’t show a second water hazard closer to the green, whereas the sign did.

The guy in the pro shop was a real scatterbrain and far from friendly. He’d get halfway through serving people (not just me) and then wander off and do something else before coming back to finish the transaction. The rest of the staff were all very nice and friendly.

PROS

  • drinks cart and kiosk in the middle of the course
  • plenty of hazards
  • a well maintained course

Cons

  • plenty of hazards
  • pro shop attendant

Played this course today and it was ok. There are a few holes that are way to close to the motorway for my liking which made the round a little painful. Much rather have the sound of the birds in my ears that 5000 cars screaming past. There is a lot of water on the course so make sure you tale plenty of balls. There are a couple on interesting holes the best being the 18th which is about a 150 meter par three over a big lake. The course could do with a few more trees. It’s pretty flat and if you can hit the ball straight will probably have a low score. The course itself was in pretty good nick although the greens were a little slow. Fairways were pretty good. O played in the midweek competition and the members I played with were very nice and quiet helpful in terms of where to look out for water etc.

PROS

  • Close to the airport
  • Nice members

Cons

  • Lots of water
  • Close to the freeway
  • lots and lots of water

My first time playing in QLD and was certainly impressed. Pro shop staff were the reverse of the majority of the reviews, even giving me a discount since i was shouting a couple of mates their round. Course was in pretty good knick and the greens ran true, although had some trouble adjusting to the pace coming out of the Melbourne winter. Certainly won’t be refusing another round here.

I like the course – I really think it is a good one to play, and nice to be able to get out on a course on a Saturday afternoon. But I have to agree with an earlier review – the staff in the pro shop do make you feel like you are putting them out. With a booked round of golf, I was greeted with a gruff, and told that at 12:30pm, it was too late in the day to use EFTPOS. I’ll keep playing the course, but perhaps send someone else in to pay.

PROS

  • Fairways and greens in great shape
  • Able to get a round on a Saturday afternoon

Cons

  • Poor customer service in the pro shop
  • No course marshalling to stop 5 hour rounds!!

Played Nudgee today and WOW what an experience. Considering the drought conditiions the greens were fantastic and the fairways weren’t too bad. the staff at the course were exceptional in their professionalism and efficiency. to all those others who have bagged them out i really think it must have been you in the wrong as the operation seemed first rate.

one staff member in particular was very helpful and well mannered and he seemed to go out of his way to help us. his name was Tim I think.

Definetly recommend the course and the experience.

1st time back in a year – never again. From the minute we walked into the pro-shop the experience was poor. The cart booking was screwed up and we were made to feel as though we were putting them out – even though it was their mistake writing the booking in the wrong day. They also couldn’t decide if the green fees and the cart could be paid via eftpos or had to be cash – finally being told we were the last one of the day at 10.00am. (Something for the ATO to look at). When we arrived at the 1st tee – there were 3 groups (10 players) in front of us with 10 minutes till our tee time. We were waiting up to 15mins to tee off on some holes. The 18 holes took 5.5 hours. Now we are no pro’s with the 4 of us scoring in the 80’s or 90’s – but 5.5 hours is a joke and no course marshall to ensure the players in front kept up a decent pace. For the price – there are definitely better experiences to be had and courses to play – especially with Indooroopilly (East) only costing $46.00 inc cart when booked on iseek. Terrible experience – look elsewhere before playing here

No where near as good as the North course but this south course is worth a go. Its long and has some very tricky holes. Deffinately worth at least 3 stars.

Nudgee (South) is one of those courses that high handicappers love. Most of the holes are flat, the fairways are wide and forgiving, and you can find your ball fairly easily no matter which way it happens to randomly shoot off the face of your club. It is true that it lives right beside the busy Gateway Arterial, but the traffic noise adds but a small test of mental fortitude to the otherwise minimal challenge that the course provides. As such it leaves the hackers of this world the opportunity to concentrate on our crappy swings.

Overall the course was in good nick. There was some heavy rain around the night before I played, and teeing off at about 8am, there was lots of water around but all off to the side of the playing area, hence not interfering with any decent shots that you hit. The teeing areas and greens were in good shape, of good pace and fairly easy to read. My main gripe was the atrocious lack of signage pointing you in the direction of the next tee. Orienteering between holes, using only the direction of the sun and the tiny map on the back of the scorecard, added an interesting but largely unwelcome dimension to the round. Club management should seriously look at this, since good signage would improve the course immeasurably.

The holes themselves – unlike a couple of other reviewers, I appreciated beginning with a nice easy par 3 to loosen up a bit more after coming from their driving range, and to get some confidence with a good score before moving to the rest of the course. Hole 2 was one of the more challenging, unless you can fade the ball around the giant tree smack in the middle of your line to the pin. Otherwise laying up before the narrow neck of the fairway and then a long iron to the green is probably the way to go. Other stand-outs were the 9th which doglegs nicely right. Tee shots to the right will require hitting blindly over the trees to the green. The 17th will tempt you to go long over the water for the hero second shot to the green, especially if you hit a good tee shot to the left of the fairway. The 18th, for a par three, is just plain scary, with the lake all the way along the right side of the hole and the clubhouse in the background if you hit too hard.

I’d play Nudgee South again, although I’d love to play the North course as well to compare. It doesn’t rank with resort courses like North Lakes, but it allows high handicappers like me to score a few pars and dream of the day when I can score less than 90 on every course, just like I did at Nudgee.

The first time I played at this course was probably 4-5 months ago. Greens were under construction and pretty upset that we weren't told and received no discount on green fees.

1st hole really shocked us when my ball landed on the green. For a moment I thought it was a bunker. lol.

Try to play with a member if you are hitting it the first time. There are plenty of hidden traps (water hazards), that cuts across the middle of the fairway. Long drive doesn't necessarily means you will survive.

I will never forget this course because I had my first eagle at Hole 6 Par 5 506m, ball just happened to find the hole from 60m out.

Course is pretty flat, wide open. Try tee off early in the morning, afternoon wind is pretty strong.

Overall -4 stars for this course. Give it a try.

I'm getting around to playing most of the courses around Brisbane. From Keperra, Indro, RQ, Pacific. Nudgee South course does not rate compared to the 4 above. It's a links style course so a bit different to the ones above.

I found the course pretty boring. The par 3 18th was the only one that stood out. The fairways were ordinary - I can really only remember buffallo grass, no couch here. The greens were well maintained however. Living in drought I'm a massive fan of nice fairways as my own backyard is a mess of buffalo and weeds, but no luck here.

No real shade around the course. The first few holes are right next to the gateway motorway so it is rather noisy.

Will be good to get on the North course to compare.

Played nudgee today and was very impressed with the overall condition of the course in particular the greens.

The course isnt all that long and the fairways are pretty spacious on a few of the holes. There are also some nicely placed fairway bunkers so strategy is key off some tee offs.

The staff were very professonal and helpful in both the pro shop and the clubhouse.

Will return again sometime soon.

If you're going to play Nudgee then the North Course is generally the way to go but you may end up on this course as a social player on the weekends.

This course was generally pretty good to play. I find that regardless of the course Nudgee has really good greens and average to poor fairways. It seems to lack good drainage and maybe has some poor soil quality that leads to fairly dry fairways a lot of the time. This course could also use a bit of general beautifaction just to fix up pathways, garden beds etc. It looked like they were working on some areas so perhaps this is in the works.

The holes were generally challenging and interesting. After a par 3 start (hate that), we moved on to some good holes that had a bit of room to use the driver. There wasn't any hole that I would say was particularly punishing as there was always plenty of room. It's probably a slightly tougher workout lengthwise as many second shots were mid-irons. I'm not really used to accounting for wind all that much when I play but you usually do have to at Nudgee so this is an extra challenge.

This is a decent course to play if you're looking for something different to your usual course around Brisbane.
