Set on the stunning Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, Thirteenth Beach is a 36 hole golf and residential complex. The first of the two courses, The Beach Course was opened in December 2001, and The Creek Course in February 2004.

The Beach Course is a challenging and natural links style course has already received high accolades, being voted in the countries top 25 golf courses (Golf Australia magazine) and the 12th best public access facility (The Golf Course Guide). The Creek Course designed by Tony Cashmore in conjunction with 6 time major championship winner Nick Faldo, is set to be a wonderful complement to The Beach Course, with the accolades and praise expected to continue.

Do not waste your time. The beach course is so much better than the creek course. If you like rocks in bunkers, patchy fairways, unintersting holes, poor greens, then the creek course is for you. Over priced, over rated, stay away.

I played at this course as part of a drummond club golf day and i have to say that i was almighty impressed with the condition and lay out of the course. It is a pretty impressive challnge for all and the north-westerly did not help the cause. There is a good mixture of long par 4’s as well as some shorter par 5’s. The par 3’s are quite basic although the 13th(i think) has a massive slope at the front of the green which makes it all the more difficult considering it is a 190m par 3 already which carries across a creek.

I found the back 9 to be a little bland compared to the front 9 but all in all it was a great golf experience and i cant wait to get back there to play the beach course.

Played this course on Thurs 20Apr06 so ignore the Review date above.

As should be clear from some of the other reviews below, if it wasn't for the 'Beach Course' being located right beside this course, then it would probably seem better. That course has the dunes, the spectacular bunkers and an overall feel of greatness. This course has open space, saplings, a barely trickling creek that isn't in play and holes that can tend to get repetitive. What it also has though is the same excellent conditioning, fast greens and design challenges of it's older brother.

As a single entity it is a nice course that provides some challenges (especially in the prevailing strong breezes) but I guess we'll just have to wait a while and see how it matures.

"No mulligans, no gimmes; play golf..."

Fantastic layout and heaps of risk and reward holes for all golfing abilities. The stay and play packages are hard to beat with the accomodation second to none at fantastic prices. Probably best if the wind is up to play the beach course as it has a little bit more shelter from the elements for the average golfer.

When I first played the Creek course in October 2004 I swore never to go back. This course suffered badly alongside the neighbouring Beach and Barwon Heads courses. I did return this week, but only because the Beach course was closed for the day. Initially I wasn't happy with having to play the Creek course. Sometimes we don't realise when we've been given a lucky break.

It took me about 4 holes to understand how rash I'd been in my initial assessment of the Creek course. Superb fairways, quality greens, outstanding bunkering... this course is a true test of strategic golf. There is very little straight up and down the line stuff and the course is not yet two years old. This is a parkland course which will mature and become as highly regarded as the Beach course before long.

The Creek is going to get water in it, the surrounding rough areas will develop and the whole package will be a great complement to the Beach course. What a nice way to spend a few days, playing two contrasting international standard courses.

We Australians don't appreciate how fortunate we are with our choice in quality courses. It's unbelievable to think that we can walk up and play 2 courses of such high standard for around $100 in total. Yes the oft titled "Ugly Duckling" is emerging as a graceful swan, which may well outshine its better known nesting partners.

Both offer interesting and thoughtful golf, but my personal preference is for the Creek Course as it in places reminds me of both Metropolitan and Kingston Heath, where placement, distance and accurace are important.

I find the Ocean Course for me to be more of a 'Grip It and Rip It' course, with less need to consider club selection, whereas the Creek has been built with more subtle intregues.

13th Beach Creek course would probably be OK if it wasn't situated right next door to the magnificent Beach Course. after playing both courses, I can't find a single reason you would want to play the Creek Course again, there is hardly a memorable hole on the course. The par 4 3rd and par 3 5th are the only possible exceptions. Don't get me wrong, the course is fine but it doesn't have the 'wow' factor that the Beach course has, a lot of the holes are repetitious, some of the greens are plain stupid especially the par 3 12th (I think that's right) that has a massive drop off to the left that makes it almost impossible to keep your ball on the green should it stray even remotely close to it. For what you pay to play there and the time it takes to get there from Melbourne and the amount of quality courses that are available to play in Victoria, I would suggest you could find much better value for money. If you choose to play 13th Beach, make sure you tee off on the Beach Course and leave the Creek course alone!

The first 6 holes are golfing heaven, with Tony Cashmore's genius evident everywhere. Then something changed when I got to the 7th. Suddenly the course became plain, boring and repetitive as Nick Faldo's golf swing. There are some really bad holes out there, like the short par 4 9th. It could have been a great hole if they'd reduced the bunkering to offer several risk-reward choices off the tee, but instead the only choice is to drive to the left. It's almost as if the goal was to put as many fairway bunkers as possible in, without any thought to their placement or contribution to strategy. But really, the worst thing about this course is the creek. It's just an ugly eyesore, bordered with even uglier white rocks, that just meanders through the course with no strategic value at all. It doesn't even come into play except on 8 and 17. Whatever where they thinking? Something like a grassy ridge would have been a much better option. Having got all that off my chest, there are some glorious exceptions. Holes 4 and 5 offer some real challenges and plenty of strategic choices. The 13th is a great short hole, and the 14 gives you a chance to "kick a goal" between 2 large trees and drive the green. The 17th is terrific driving hole (even with that ugly creek), and it finishes with a strong par 4 that can make or break your score. My only other criticism is the choice of casurina (she-oaks) for the tree plantings. Coastal tea-tree would have suited it much better.

Unlike it's sister beach course, The Creek Course wont have the spectacular element of The Beach, but it is an excellent thinking course. When the young trees grow it will alter the nature of the course. In some cases, the trees that were there before have been used. The 14th can be reached with a strong easterly often the prevailing wind in summer, but one must cover the 316m through a gap of 10 m created by 2 pine trees about 100m from the green. There is plenty of fairway on the right to go the wimpy two shot option. There is also the creek and thick rough on the left that comes into play if one goes for brave play. The wind is still a huge factor here and adds to the challenge. The 11th is a tough 411m that goes to the left with a large quantity of sand traps on the left forcing the player to go right if a northerley is blowing. There is a good variety of distance in all par3,4 and fives. This course is excellent now and will only get better in time.

Many golfers believe that this course will in time be the equal of the (rightly) acclaimed Beach Course. It lacks the wow factor of the Beach Course, but the amount of elevation change and the separation between holes is surprising, given the nature of the land the designers had to work with. This is a strategists course, which genuinely challenges you to play good shots in order to score well. The Creek course is more parklands than links like, and thus will take time to mature. Many trees have been planted and these will alter the nature of the course with time. The first few holes are perhaps different in character to the rest, in part because they seem to more fully utilise existing trees in their routing. Strategic options abound on virtually every hole. The 8th is perhaps the best hole, with a significant element of risk/reward and an emphasis on precision. The "creek" is somewhat artificial at this stage of it's maturity, but does come into play in all the right places, causing the thinking golfer to constantly reassess their shot selection. Watch this course mature, and move quickly up the rankings as it does.
