Joined as a member in March 2010 (from Medway) and have loved every minute of it. Course is long and tough but the course condition is always great (especially fairways… rate them better than Kingston Heath). Recent works to the 15th and 17th and improved the course greatly.

PROS

  • Master's Tradition
  • Great fairways
  • Good greens
  • Practice facilities

Cons

  • Old clubhouse (new one on the way)
  • Can be brutal
  • Inconsistent bunkers (especially the 12th)

Played 19-12-2011.

The course was in stunning condition. The renovations over recent years have created a magnificent golf course that is both very challenging and immensely enjoyable.

In it’s current condition it would be well worthy of holding championship golf again.

Played here for the first time in Feb 2011. I had walked the course a few times watching the masters over the years but I was surprised at how good a golf course it is. The conditions were first class, the layout was interesting and challenging and each hole presented a different challenge. The weather conditions were pretty tough with showers and a 30Km wind but this didn’t dampen my liking for this golf course. If you get a chance to play here take it.

PROS

  • conditions, lay out and varied holes.

Cons

  • none

Played today with my "corporate group" after lunch and golf was included in the price. 44 players so we had a shotgun start on a few holes adjacent to the club house.

The last few days has resulted in some heavy rain in the southern suburbs and it was apparent in some of the bunkers where there was either casual water still in them or the sand had been compacted down where the water had been. A number of the staff were working on these bunkers getting them back to better condition but I feel that this was the only distraction from a well presented course.

The fairways were in excellent condition and the greens were receptive. Some greeens I believe may have been of a different cut than the others (2nd and 14th – the 14th a lot darker green and more grass)

Worth a trip to play there if you can get on.

Played Huntingdale a few times lately and have come to know the place quite well.

It’s long. Long enough to test the longest of hitters. If you cannot carry the ball a minimum of 200m you are really going to be up against it if attempting to master this demon.

If that isn’t enough, the fairways are tight as well. I guess it is the result of being on a relatively (to neighbouring Metropolitan) smaller piece of land. Get off these narrower fairways and you will find yourself in rather thick couch, timber or banks of tea tree – or a combination of all of these. It’s bound to cost you strokes.

Add to this the many deep and strategically placed bunkers and it turns into a rather stern test of your course management skills.

Go to Google maps (satellite view) look up Huntingdale and neighbouring Metro and look closely at the relative width of the fairways on both and you will see what I mean about ’tight’.

Certainly not in as good condition as it may have been in previous years. Still rated in top 50, but a long way behind peninsula, Commonwealth, metro, royal melb and co. in Melbourne at present.

I’ve been lucky enough to play Huntingdale a couple of times and rate it very highly. The course has immaculate fairways, tough greenside and fairway bunkers and fast, true greens. When the winds blow some of the holes are amongst the toughest in Australia. The 16th-17th-18th holes are brilliant and most golfers rave about them, but the course has so many other challenging memorable holes including the short par four dogleg 4th and the 200mt uphill par 3 5th. The best eagle/birdie opportunity comes on the par 5 10th, which is reachable for most golfers in 2 shots if you can carefully put your tee shot on the right hand side of the fairway away from the fairway bunker.

If you ever get the chance to play H.G.C. then take it. It’s one of the best courses in the country for sure!

Awesome course, in my top 5 I have played. Fantastic condition, great layout, very tough challenge of golf. Standout holes for me are 1,4,5,6,7,8,11,12,13,14,16,17,18. Do not pass up an opportunity to play here.

Played here last year and well, this course is fantasic. After watching the Masters for years and watching how the pros played this course, I though this course would be a great test for a 5 marker and well yes it was. Started off the round in awe of Huntingdale, which led to a few early bogies, however when you realise that this course requires some respect and thought to each shot, reward is not far away. Yes on T.V the pros make it look easy, well let me tell you it is not! From slick and undulating greens to though to strategic bunkers that can destroy any golfer. This is one of my favorites, there are so many places you can come unstuck, but I loved every moment of Huntingdale. Can’t say enough good things about this course. If you can get a game here, it is worth every cent!

Have seen many-a-comp played here over the years and jumped at a recent invite. It was a charity day so the tees were forward and pins mostly freindly, despite this it was still a good test.

Overall a great course, fairways and bunkers top notch condition, greens true but a bit slow on the day. The recent design changes certainly stand out from the original course! Would like to play there on a members comp day to see it in true condition and length. Staff and club pro were excellent.

Huntingdale is really only a 2nd teir sandbelt course, that has been elevated to higher status due to the Masters.

Some of the design changes over the years have been puzzling, but enjoyable to play nonetheless.

There are probably 20 courses in the area that would be preferable to play.

Too good for me but a pleasure to play. We played off the masters markers the day after the masters and I struggled. Punishing rough as ball tends to run behind trees etc. Bunker sand is a dream. Greens were like rock but you never died wondering. Parring a hole (which I did, the 16th) was an achievement. Clubhouse superb, and drinks cheap. don't spoil it by using a cart. We have all seen it but playing it is another dimension. I put the card away and just played it for the experience. Woth it.
