A leisurely 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Sydney through the charming and historic Southern Highlands, Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Resort is nestled amongst picturesque bushland in a peaceful, natural amphitheatre overlooking the valley’s majestic, rocky escarpment.
As the name implies, it’s much more than a place to stay. It’s a comfortable country resort with facilities and service to make a romantic weekend, mid-week escape, family holiday or business conference totally unforgettable.
There’s a licensed restaurant, swimming pool, beach volleyball and tennis courts. And for golfers, the undulating fairways of our Jack Newton designed par 72 championship 18-hole golf course await with unexpected challenges.
Jack’s original design has been recently extended and upgraded. Played under the watchful gaze of the many resident kangaroos, the course sweeps across the undulating valley terrain providing a tough test of golf from the back tees. From the front tees it’s a pleasurable adventure for beginners or a casual game.
So whether your idea of a good drive is taking in the vistas of Kangaroo Valley and the surrounding highlands, or sending a little white ball searing 250 metres down the centre of a lush fairway, Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Resort offers the perfect drive.

I played this course a couple of days ago and really enjoyed the experience. Having never played the course before I was surprised that I went five under my handicap (but was playing off the whites), which made my experience even more enjoyable.
The last reviewer who appears to be affiliated with the course has covered most aspects in regard to the course, but I’ll add my two bobs worth;
The course was in great condition, apart from the bunkers. There hadn’t been rain for a few days, yet some of the bunkers were still full of water and the sand quality of the bunkers was poor. It would be worth fixing up the drainage and getting in some decent sand. You can’t just dig a hole, fill it with sand and call it a bunker. May look like a bunker but after wet weather it becomes another water hazard.
My pick of the holes were the Par 4 8th and the Par 4 15th. The 8th plays over a very deep gully with a dam at the bottom and a second smaller gully as you approach the green. From the white markers the fairway can easily be reached, however from the blues it’s a different story. As I stayed in a cabin on the 8th I got to see a lot of players teeing off from the blue (maybe they had something to prove). Although some pretty good shots were being hit I didn’t see anyone make the fairway. The 15th is a down hill dog leg right, made shorter by being down hill. Don’t be greedy, keep your tee shot well right, as hidden behind the trees on the right is a lot of water. I tried to take the dog leg out of play and it wasn’t worth finding the water.
I played mid week so the course was quiet. I enjoy an early tee off or later tee off to avoid the midday heat and it does get very hot in the Kangaroo Valley. The pro shop doesn’t open until 8am, so that is as early as you can tee off and carts had to be back at 4.30pm, which destroys the prospect of a late afternoon tee off. There was no pro, he was on leave so the girl handling the reception was also in charge of the pro shop, which kept her busy. I wouldn’t call it a pro shop, but rather a counter with a few golf balls, tees and some shirts.
As other reviewers have said it is well worth investing in a cart. This is a very steep course and unless you are extremely fit it would be a killer to do on foot. I saw plenty of people doing it on foot and they didn’t appear to be enjoying the experience.
This is a very attractive course and the scenery is spectacular. Not just well worth a round if you are in the area, it is worth going out of your way to play this course.
