Situated between the Hume Highway and the Georges River in Sydney’s west, the Liverpool Golf Club has an interesting and challenging course which is well timbered, with water coming into play on 13 holes and over 65 strategically placed bunkers to test the golfer’s skill.

A par 72, rated at 73, the 6266 metre layout can be shortened by well placed tee shots, but with an amateur record of only 68 (67 for the professionals) and having hosted the 1987 Australian PGA Championship, the 1994 NSW Amateur Championship and the 1987 and 1988 Jack Newton aged Championships, golfers will realise that it is not a course to be trifled with.

Great course with well manicured fairways, greens and water features.
The bunkering design is really good however they need more maintenance around the edges with some of them collapsing slightly and needing a little more sand. Having said that for the green fees paid excellent value ($80 for two with cart midweek). It wouldn’t take much to get this course to international standard.
Excellent.

Teed off at 1230 on 21 Dec 2010 after having played Bankstown in the a.m. At $32, this was a more reasonable price for a tough course. Not overly long but difficult. The greens were hard and fast – probably could have used some water. The fairways were in good condition and many were tree lined, but the rough was fairly well kept and clear of debris – but don’t go there as high scores will result. Reasonably flat for walkers with a fair bit of shade and bubblers. However, you might get hassled if you want to fill your water bottle with ice water in the club house.

one of the best public courses u can play in Sydney. Tee to green in great condition. tough course with ACR 75. picturesque with lots of water, huge trees and some well designed bunkering.

nice looking course with some good challenging holes. Pity , they don’t allow visiters to play from blue tees , only the white ones, which makes the course quite short.I think i got to use the driver only once in the first 9 holes. Something really stinks at the 1st tee, raw sewage??? tee and get out ASAP.

Great course which can grab shots back in a hurry. Great fairways and although fairly flat the layout of each hole has good variation and requires good course management to keep the score down. The bunkers are challenging on some holes and combined with the water around many of the holes on the course make this a good challenge for all levels of player.
Liverpool is better than most of the highly rated courses in Sydney in terms of physical attraction, course layout and course condition. In terms of value for membership or a casual round it has to be one of the best value courses in Australia.

True Championship course.

How this isn’t rated in the top 100 is beyond me.

Challenging course and a good mixture of doglegs, bunkers and water.

Great value for money.

Course is great, greens are fantastic and possible the best fairways in Sydney. New bunkers are also great. Played early, and take my advise, avoid the sprinklers, the water stinks. Recycled water or possibly raw sewage???? Apart from the filthy water the course is fantastic, the best course I have played on years, leaves some the high priced city course for dead. Well done to the course committee and club staff for the excellent job you are doing. Will be back again.

Great course but above my level of skills and I am on 18. Most holes are very long and tough. The course beats me every time and discourages. The balance is not right for a social or week end player. I will return at a later date.

Liverpool is always challenging – even when you think you are doing well it has the ability to claw back your score.

Good course management required when playing it. Always in fine condition with firendly clubhouse staff and great bacon & egg rolls at the half way mark.

Played here a month ago.

I had read alot of hype on this course, but when I tee'd off and started my round I was getting very dissapointed, The fairways were too long and there was not much run at all from my drives. It got worse when I got too the greens, They were far too slow for a course of this standard. Putting was terrible because of the long grass on the putting surface. While there were some postives ,The new bunker complex's and the general layout, i will not be back in a hurry. If the fairways were cut and the greens had been mowed it would of been great!

Dissapointed to say the least!

Yes, the golf course is a wonderful track and the work they are doing on the bunker recontruction is awesome, but that's not all. This place has the best halfway eatery is Sydney. Always fresh and always generous. I'll come back just for the tucker! And the views from the Clubhouse are spectacular.

Measures 6332m Par 72 from the back plates with 4 Par 3s ranging from 130-185m, 10 Par 4s ranging from 320-420m and four Par 5s ranging from 475-500m. Greens are quite good (and sizable here) mostly tiered with quick and true speed. The teebeds were excellent and flat, with good grass cover and were the fairways. Now has only 1 temporary green in play (10th) and all bunkers guarding 1st, 9th, 17th, 18th greens are under repair, so once this is done, I will definitely be back.

The par 4s were the courses best attributes, asking all levels of golfers questions with club selection, water, sand, trees all coming into play on most holes. The par 3s are easier, in comparison to the longer holes, with a few water (bailout) options off the tee. The par 5s are tough to birdie, but have strategically placed trees and hazards in areas that force you to hit a target on the fairway, instead of just the boring tee to green play.

Water hazards are plentiful, so it is easier to list the 4 holes WITHOUT water hazards (1st, 2nd, 6th, 14th). The best holes are the 158m Par 3 4th with a water clearance and guarding the double-tiered and heavily bunkered green. The 475m Par 5 8th is my fave hole on the course, with large water hazard along left side of fairway stretching for about 200m to the green guarded by bunker short-left and high-right. One could easily add the opening AND closing 3 holes as the courses best holes too, as this course has many fine points, including a great view of 9, 17 and 18 from the clubhouse.

Played here on 11/7/06 with visitor green fees $37, which is not too bad for its class. Love this courseâĦ

Back again to play Liverpool this month and the work on five holes around the greens, with all new bunkers is AWESOME. Do yourself a favour and play this course soon. I hear that the next phase of the project will be in early 2007. When they have finished the reconstructions, it will be a very challenging layout. I'm impressed.

Upon arrival you will like what u see at Liverpool Golf Club. This place truly is an oasis in the pitiful western suburbs. Fantastic presentation for a course that only costs $37 a round. Especially when i think about the $45 dollars I wasted playing a round at Moore Park. This course actually has style.

Magnificent fairways and beautiful lakes which I was lucky enough to keep out of all day. Yes, there is some wear and tear on the edge of some of the greens, but nothing that caused any problems so why complain. The green were evenly paced and true otherwise (apart from the temporary green on the 3rd).

Great variety of holes, plenty of bunkers to put your accuracy under pressure too. My only complaint, though a small one, is that I would have liked to have at least one hole with a reasonably elevated tee or green, the course really is mostly flat. I guess most people like this aspect but as I am used to playing on hilly courses I spent all day waiting for some change in elevation.

All in all a truly memorable day though, I will definitely be coming back here.

Played here with our Friday social group last week and from what people had said I was thoroughly looking forward to it. The layout of this course is fantastic, good shots are rewarded and there is a good amount of variation in the type of holes that you are playing. However, I must say that the greens here are awful. I’m not just talking about the use of a temporary green on hole number 3 but the rest had either dead edges, areas out of commission, 34,000 pitch marks that seemed to get in the line of any makeable putt, or all of the above.

The staff were very friendly and for 30odd bucks its not bad. I’d check the greens out in advance if possible and take the other course users (with , obviously less knowledge of golf etiquette and no grasp of the english language) with a large pinch of salt.

It could of been so much better

Ah, the sleeping giant of Liverpool. A masterful layout that needs a bunker overhaul, which I hear will happen soon. When that happens, awake the sleeping giant and beware. 14 holes are affected by water now... the bunker reconstructions will make is a real test...and I can't wait.

Ah, Mr Bird at the bottom of these reviews...your last visit was 2003, you should see it now baby!

I really don't know where the other nine reviewers of Liverpool have been. They certainly haven't seen this course lately. This is January 2006, and I played Liverpool in the Thursday comp last week. It is magnificent. Long, challenging and finely manicured. The greens are magic and I believe they are about to reshape every bunker on the Course. The plans were hanging in the clubhouse and from the look of the design, it will be awesome when they complete the job. The staff at Liverpool are the most friendly you will meet and the half way Bistro is the best in Sydney.

Keep up the good work. This golf course is grossly underated, but the PGA don't think so. They've got the NSW Open again this year for the third year in a row. Well done

I played here last weekend with our social club. It was the first time that most of us had played here. I was keen to see what type of course it is - considering they hosted the NSW Open last year and have it again this November. They also won the 2005 Pennants, so they have some very talented golfers in their membership ranks.

Despite hitting off in the fog at 6.30am (and not being able to see the fairway in front of you for the first couple of holes) this course was well worth it. We started on the back nine, so the 10th, 11th and 12th can't be commented on due to the conditions. The 13th is a nice par 5 which requires 3 shots to reach the green. The next few holes are straight forward (providing you avoid the water) especially the 17th. This is a very good chance for birdie. A reasonable drive and a 3 wood leaves a short up and down for birdie.

The 18th is a nice par 3 with water right. The 1st is a short, easy par 4. The 2nd is a long par 4 that is very tough. 3rd is a short par 5 that can be reached in 2. Holes 4 through to 7 are again relatively straight forward but can be brutal if you stray off line. The penultimate hole is a good par 5 with water down the left. It is handy to have some bread scraps to feed the geese and ducks!! A sure fire distraction to put off your playing partners!!

The 9th hole (our last) is a narrow par 4 with water waiting left and behind the green to catch any errant shot.

While the majority of the players in our club finished over their handicaps, nearly everyone said that they would play again here in a heartbeat (me included). This is a great course that makes you think over every shot. I only wish next time that we will be able to see a bit clearer!!! A fully enjoyable round no matter what your ability. I look forward to playing here again in the near future.

Indeed, a pleasure to play this golf course. Under rated when compared to some more accomplished clubs (Cabrammatta, Kogarah, Eastlakes, Moore Park...).Always challenging with lot of variety. Your friends will also be impressed.

Swampy flat course with a few lakes for interest. I was fairly bored by the 12th hole, although there are some enjoyable long par 3's. Nearby Cabramatta is much better value.

I played Liverpool golf course yesterday in an open comp day, for the first time.

Liverpool golf course tended to be rather dry as for the ongoing drought. This made playing challenging.

The fairways were dry as, but got greener towards the greens. There were a mixture of narrow fairways to open. Plenty of long par 4s that doglegged. A number of short par 4s that had planty of water hazards too. The par 5s were average.

The greens were very large and most lighting quick. Liverpools greenfeas were average.

Liverpool golf course could be alot better than it is due to the drought. A very challenging course that should suit all players.

I used to play this course 10-15 years ago and saw it had the potential to be one of the top courses in sydney, after a 10 year absence it seems the course has just stayed where it was and not really moved forward other than charging a lot more money to play, I played in the competetion (which took 5 and a quarter hours to complete) and was generally disappointed with the condition of the course, I really enjoy the layout and see so much potential that I hope they bring to fruition.

I will start this review by stating that I joined liverppol g.c. this year(June 2004).

Unlike certain sydney radio personalities I like to admit my conflict of interests!

The course has undertaken quite a few changes since then and is really starting to mature. The first hole is a generous hole easing you into the round and good drive should leave a PW into a large green with not much trouble, after the east opening hole the course then throws 3 rather difficult holes at you. The 2ns is rated No1 on the index and at over 400m and uphill you need a GOOD drive to have any chance, right is out of bounds while left is trees, big green so go for it on approach.

The third is a relatively stright par 5 but water and OB all along the right and a tight green-par should be no probs here, the fourth is a par 3 with a full water carry of about 150m to a small green. From here the course eases up a bit and you don't strike trouble again till the par 5 8th, a GOOD straight drive here will leave you about 180m-200m to green-over water, the smart play here is lay up with a 7 iron leaving about 50-70m to green, heavy slope right to left so check pin position for approach(or risk putting downhill and trust me off the green). The ninth also requires some thought a fairly good drive should leave you with 110m-140m to green-green is raised and small surronded by bunkers and water back and left-be carfull here the water and bunkers make green look smaller than is.

The back nine does not hold much mystery- the tenth is a straight forward par 4- second shot over water but lots of miss places around green, the 11th can be made very short by cutting off the dogleg and going over trees on corner(however only big hitters should attempt if you end up in trees bogey time)if you don't cut corner expect second shot of 190m+.

You don't strike trouble again till the 15th a hole surronded by water all down the left, drive needs to accurate and straight fairway is raised so expect the ball to be above your feet for second.

The 16th(in my 6 mths here the most dramatic of holes in terms of changing fortunes) water all down the left and enchroaching on the fairway-if you want to have any chance at par here you must take on the water, the tee box is also slanted towards water and most people are so frightened they aim up the right and are left with 220m to green, if you take on water should leave 8 iron to green, the 17th is a straight par 5 and a great opportunity for birdie, long hitters are advised to aim a little left as the big lake that cuts throught this hole does not affect the left hand side, plenty of room for 2nd shot and a nice generous green to hit to. The 18th is quite rare a par 3 and at 158m over water challenging, pin is usually cut over the water, playing safe to the left leaves a massive downhill chip ans there is also a big bunker to contend with.

Members are very friendly, staff are always welcoming. Another plus id like to give Liverppol G.C. is the way they handle their juniors- they have a junior coach(who only delas with the juniors) and one manager and everything revolves around these guys-parents have one reference point and one person to deal with-very simple for all involved.

I have been fortunate to play with some of the juniors and they all have a high regard for the coach and the system in place.

Nice layout with some tough holes.

But the condition (Jan2003) of the course was very poor...just had the fairway watering system installed when I played there. Might be better now.

Nice club house though.

33. andrew14966 | Rated | 26 Dec 2002 | Add A Review

Very flat, mid length par 72.

Heavily bunkered greens, but not enough emphasis is placed on the drive. Par 5's are all a bit short. Not too difficult to score on, & a bit boring.

The condition of the course tends to get too dry leaving some very tight lies on the fairways.
