An easy walking 18 hole, par 71, 5,769 metre course, it provides a challenging game for the low handicapper and an exciting but very playable game for the hacker. The tree-lined rich Greenleas Park and Couch fairways place a premium on accurate driving, but the penalty for an errant shot is not too punishing. The beautiful Bermuda greens, well protected by bunkers can be challenging, but run fair and true.

A large practice putting green is located adjacent to the club house, together with a practice chipping and pitching green, complete with bunker, and practice nets to tune your swing. A full-sized practice driving range with target greens is located between the 3rd and 4th fairways, near the 4th hole tee.

Played in the Saturday comp with a couple of locals and found this quite an interesting layout. There is plenty of water around the course and some interesting holes. Definitely a course you need to play more than once to work out some of the holes.

The fairways were ok, without being great and the greens were in good condition. It is quite a flat course and so is easily walked.

One of the anomalies of the course is that both nines start and end with a par 5 and there are only four. There are also two par 3s in a row on the front nine. Green fees for comp play were $20 plus $10 comp fee. I believe the standard green fees are $35, so a bonus to play in the comp.

The other course in Mackay (Melaleuca) is closed at the moment so this is your only option unless you travel inland to Pioneer Valley Golf Club in Mirani or south to Sarina.

Well worth a game.

This is the fourth year that I have been to the City of Mackay Pro Am and what a great week of golf it is. For those players that have not been before, I recommend it and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Once again the course was in the condition you would expect. Apart from a couple of sanded areas due to 3 metres of rain over a 12 month period the superintendent and his team should be proud of what they produced for the week.
My friends and I are already looking forward to next year’s Pro Am and I hope to see many more players playing at one of the best golf courses in North Queensland.

I have played this course over the past 5 years, off and on. I have noticed a vast improvment in the whole course over that time. With the weather that Mackay has had earlier this year, the green staff have done a magnificent job to get the course back to what it is today. I love the tight fairways and the well kept rough. The bunkers are soft and thats how they should be. I will be back to enjoy the walk and the friendly folk that I have met there each time I visit. Well done MAckay.

As a member who has seen what mother nature has given this course over the last 3 years the greenskeeping staff should be applauded. The course is now back to the way we remember it and i for one enjoy the challange of playing this course. Tight fairways, well placed bunkers and water hazards and some great shaped holes make it a test for experts and beginners alike. Any true golfer would relish the chance to play 18 holes on Mackays premier course. Over 650 playing members and climbing shows that this course doesn’t disappoint.

I am a occasional visitor to Mackay I have played here twice in the last six months and found the course in great shape but the greens left a little to be desired. However upon my recent visit this place has really turned around since the new greenkeeper has taken over. Apparently the pro am was a great success and the field was happy with the greens/
I really like the layout of this track and can’t wait till the greens are back into their pristine condition they are renowned for. I’ll be back for sure.

I played this course numerous times during a one year working stay-over in Mackay and was extremely impressed.

The course is kept in excellent condition with a wide array of different holes. It appeals to the beginner and expert alike and provides a number of different challenges. A good course for walking around.

Highly recommended course to try out in the North of the state.

As a Sydney-sider, I am very impressed with this course. Lush fairways (helps being in the tropics!), and picturesque greens, this course is very well maintained for $20 for 18 holes. The only 18 hole golf course in the city of Mackay, it is one of the best golf courses Ive played on!

The very friendly staff are happy to help out those who are not familiar with the Mackay/Whitsunday region. Practice fairway, greens and hitting nets all prepare you for this exciting course. Hazards include water (1st, 2nd, 7th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th), sand and wind.

Challenging par 4s, lengthy but forgiving par 5s and postcard perfect par 3s. I highly recommend a round at Mackay GC, when I visit friends again, Im going straight to the course from the airport (which is 10km S of the course and 5 km south of the city).

Played Mackay mant times over the last 8 years. They are always improving this course but I rate it very highly. Lovely tight lush fairways and greens with some very pictures holes. The par 3, 14th hole would be my favourite. Must play this course if given the chance.
