Meadow Springs Country Club

Peel, WA | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.0) | Add A Review

Above all else, Meadow Springs Golf and Country Club offers golf as nature intended. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, the course presents a highly regarded test for players of all levels, but is also renowned for its playability.

Just thirty minutes south of Perth, near the coastal resort town of Mandurah, the Meadow Springs golf course promises a unique experience through open bushland. The course winds its way through undulating terrain, the layout dictated by the natural features of the land. Towering 200-year-old Tuart trees line generous fairways and subtly rolling greens that are equal to the best in Australia.

Few holes run parallel and all are surrounded by bushland. Other players on the course are often out of view, enhancing the sensation that you are alone in the wilderness. And, thanks to its excellent drainage, Meadow Springs is one of the best all-weather courses in the country.

Excellent course, easily top 5 in WA and different style to the other courses in the Mandurah area. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I played this course on 22nd of Dec. The course layout is good. But the condition of the green was not good. I think they are doing periodic maintenance of the green. So it was slow and bumpy. Tee box, fairway, bunkers and rough were quite good. Unfortunately I had no time to spend time to finish 18 holes with maintaining greens. So I just left there after 9 holes and went to Secret Harbour.

Typical Trent Jones course.Holes are secluded running in a loop.

Top course. Really have to think your way around.

A terrific test of golf that asks questions on every hole and offers a variety of risk/reward scenarios depending on your level of bravado.

Very much a shotmakers course where hitting to position is the aim rather than just reaching for the driver on every par 4 and blasting it as far as possible.

The one negative on the day was the poor condition of the greens. Not sure if it was the result of a maintenance program gone wrong but the greens were very patchy and bare in a lot of areas.

Definitely worth a visit.

Of the 5 courses (this, S.Harbour, Cut, Kennedy & Araluen) I played recently, this is by far the most underrated. The course condition was very good and he greens were quick & true. It is a very playable course and rewards good shots. I only wonder why the driving range is situated right next to the 1st tee and 9th fairway. All in all, a good experience and will certainly return in the future.

For quality golf at great value, Meadow Springs offers plenty.

My game in March 2003 was very enjoyable in terms of course condition, testing my game and client service. At just over 6050m from the back tees, it isn't a killer for distance, but placement off the tee is paramount and more than most places, the approach shots must avoid trouble areas to score well. Typical for Robert Trent Jones designs, fairways are generous, bunkers huge and reasonably deep.

The bent greens are perfectly consistent, pretty quick and hold even for a 13 handicapper. Some have diabolical slopes like 16 & 17 where a 2 putt can be unlikely.

The back nine called the Tuart nine is full of old Tuart trees that you skirt off the tee and can block approaches from the wrong half of the fairway. On par 5 18th, flying or drawing around trees on the left gives even the medium hitter a chance to get home in 2. You'll find most of the best holes on this nine.

My favourites were the 170 m par 3 11th with water all the way to a shallow green and the 380m par 4 12th where you thread the tee shot around some giant trees into a well bunkered valley to find a 5,6 iron approach to a plateau green.

I played Kennedy Bay the day before and Meadow Springs was way more enjoyable, had more variety of trouble was much less windy !

Meadow Springs is a Robert Trent Jones Jnr designed course that is perfectly playable all 12 months of the year.

The softly undulating fairways are well shaped as they run through belts of native timber to relatively fast greens, that are also well protected by extensive bunkering.

Many holes have daunting challenges such as a long carry over water or large bunkers to sloping greens with tight pin placements, BUT, they are very playable at all levels of golfing ability.

The challenge is to maintain your game management strategy through 18 holes without being distracted by the largely natural beauty of the course.

I play this course regularly and like most golfers I find the challenge to be different every time, yet always exciting and very satisfying.
