Melbourne, VIC | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.5) | Add A Review

Melton Valley welcomes both members and visitors to our facility. Situated just 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD on the Western Highway, Melton Valley Golf Club is ideally situated for your next game of golf. With narrow fairways, undulating greens and numerous water hazards, the course is an enjoyable test for the serious and casual golfer.

Designed by Tony Cashmore, the front nine is the place to set up your score, but after the turn, beware of Amen Corner, which has brought even the very best undone.

The course is fully watered with recycled water and is in excellent condition all year round.

Played here yesterday using the iseekgolf booking system and in terms of value this course is a winner. Went through the front nine which was pretty straight-forward, a few dog legs here and there made it interesting with the par 3 9th a nice little hole to finish the day on.

Fairways were in pretty good nick, as were the greens – consistent comes to mind also.

Well worth the drive. Fairways are in pretty good nick at the moment and the greens really make you work.

Plus with the iseekgolf.com.au online booking discount, the value for money is brilliant.

Played on 15th July 1.00 pm tee off – course condition varied from great to average, mostly good fairways and good greens however. Course has some interesting holes but progress was slow due to a group with children ahead, i jumped ahead but missing a couple of holes and that was a good choice as with the 1.00pm tee, fading light can be a factor on the last 4-5 holes. Will definetly play again. I also had some friends play a few weekes ago (weekend) and tghey had a very slow game as well

Played a 1pm tee off at $13.50 here….and boy is it worth the money and more….
The course is of much higher quality than the price suggests, with multiple holes that make you really think of club selection off the tee.
The pro-shop is well stocked and I was able to demo the TM R11 and Titleist D2.
I will definitely be back soon

PROS

  • Layout
  • Friendly Staff

Played here today for $13.50 booking with iseek. Its better value than the price of milk at the moment! Its a good sized course with some long par 5s. The couch fairways were in really good condition apart from a few bare patches on some holes. The layout is top notch and the greens had a really nice cover of grass on them however they were slightly slow. I will be recommending this course to my friends.

PROS

  • Great Layout
  • Nice fairways
  • Nice greens, although a little slow
  • Great service in the pro shop

Cons

  • A few unraked bunkers

Very nice course. It has a mixture of some long par 5’s and some easy par 3’s. The front 9 is where you set your score up because the first 4 or 5 holes on the back 9 are very tight. Greens were in fantastic nick as were the fair ways. The rain has not hurt this course at all.

PROS

  • Course layout
  • Good price
  • Greens and fairways were excellent

Played here on March 21st. Course has done very well out of recent rains, fairways were generally very lush, but in areas the course has been over watered, especially around the greens with the surrounds being very soft, meaning that balls that land short of the green often ended up plugged.

The layout is quite challenging, requiring thought with club selection and intended line. The first being a great example of this, a long straight drive off the first will have you in no mans land, better to take a long iron or chop the corner if your game.

Melton-Valley is a good course. Its greens are tricky and quick. The fairways are well covered even though the colour is a on the dry greyish side. All holes are easy enough to reach in regulation and if yout drives are wayward you are often relieved by the adjoining fairways.

Played last weekend. Fairways were a bit dry, but understandably given it’s summber. Layout was interesting enough, and had some character with a couple of settler’s graves on one hole.

Played here yesterday afternoon midweek with a clear course the whole round.

It’s a great track, in layout, condition and value for money. Is reaping the benefits of reliable water supply and there are water hazards all over the show. The lack of bunkers is made up for in course and green design and isn’t a detriment to the course.

Every hole is different and provides a different challenge. You’ll need pretty much every club in the bag.

Highly recommended, just keep your eye out for snakes. I near trod on one near the 11th green!

PROS

  • Value
  • Layout
  • Condition

Cons

  • Apparently quite busy on weekends (understandably)
  • Could do with a few bigger screens to guard the cars in the car park from shanks off the 10th

Melton Valley is a great course to play on for a fairly poor golfer like myself. I’ve never played there and had the greens in bad condition. Like most courses there could be improvements but I would rate it as one of the best in the area as far as value for money is concerned.

My biggest gripe about the course would only be that it looks like they’ve taken a lot of bunkers out of the original course design which is a bit of a shame because that would really raise the difficulty level.

Played Melton yesterday afternoon. Fairways are currently dry and run is long, but you will still get a good lie most places. Greens and green surronds are excellent and challenging.

Although a flat layout compared to other local courses, mounding on fairyways and around greens makes for some excellent challenges.

Brad in the proshop seemed like a decent enough bloke.

As most of the other reviewers have said, the layout is challenging with several ways to play most holes.

PROS

  • Although dry like everywhere, lies were fair
  • Greens Excellent
  • $21 for a midweek round seemed reasonable value

Cons

  • 100m distance marker discs were hard to find......just put another marker pole in!

This is a course i would reccomend anyone to play. I am a former member of Melton and would have to rate it the best public course on the west side of Melbourne. It starts out with an easy 285 meter par 4 which is a 5 iron, wedge to the green, and thats what type of course Melton is, a thinking mans golf course.

Pars 4's and Par 5's like the 11th are not automatic driver holes. Holes like the 11th can be played 2 iron, 4 iron wedge to garantee a par and normally a good birdie if you are below the hole.

My favorite hole on the course is the Par 4 13th. Rated the hardest on the course, but if played smartly can give away birdies. Just a tip, dont go right with your second where i have been a number of times. If the lie isnt good you can nealy pencil in a bogey.

I would highly reccomend melton for all to play

Melton Valley is one of those rare gems that most people discover purely by accident. Whoever designed this course is a genius. It is not very long or difficult, but what I really love about this course is that every hole is completely different and each has it's own unique character. Some real stand-out holes are the par 5 3rd, where you don't so much follow the fairway as just find your own way to the green, and the 8th which snakes it way along the river and leaves you an approach between, around, under or over some glorious old river gums. Even if you are playing badly, it's a place where you can just enjoy the walk.

Went with my mate nunny to play Melton which has all those little lakes full with the recent rain we have had.Water comes into play on around half the holes so strategy is important. The wind was really strong this day and after the first couple of metres around the greens the rough was quite thick so you had to have your short game with you.Melton has mounds around the greens so if an approach shot is slighty off line it is likely to end up 10m or more away. Many greens slope to the front so you must attack the pin to get close to the hole thus bringing those mounds into play. The greens have slopes everywhere and you can have a putt go in all directions on one green. The course was lush with recent rains so it is in good shape at the moment. From memory there are not many bunkers if any.Holes 11 12 13 are ones that leave an impression. All have water very much in play. The 11th is a short par 5 that goes to the right with water on the right for the last 260m.The 12th is the signature hole at Melton,A long par3 played mainly into a southerley,it has water on the right hand edge of the green. The 13th is played betwwen two gums then bends slightly left to a green guarded by a creek 40m from the green.A good short par 4.

The earlier review is a fair description of the course. It is kept in good condition and the fairways have recently completed the couching program - finally.

The best thing about Melton is the atmosphere - a bit like a Murray River course. Sit on the balcony of the club house on a Friday lunch time with your playing partners, a pot and a steak sandwich -and life is good!

Worth a visit - in particular in Spring when there should be water in the lakes / dams.

I've played Melton Valley on a number of occasions and find it to be right up my alley.

It is not long by any means, but you have to be fairly accurate of the tee. Which fortunatly I am. A great mixture of holes, the longest being the par4 15th at 371mts and the shortest being the 1st at 279mts. A personal favorite of mine would be the par4 13th at 325mts your tee shot has to go past 2 trees overhanging the fairway, which makes yours club selection very important indeed, but a good tee shot will leave a short iron in to a small green guarded by a creek running around the front and back. Melton is a course where accuracy will reward you with good scores. But bad ones if your not on your game. The course has lots of water, coming into play on no less then 6 holes and lots of undulations on the smallish greens. I was a member for a couple of years back in 1993/94 and enjoyed playing there in all conditions. Good fairways and great greens make for a pleasant days golf. Greens fee are available on weekdays and weekends for around $25.
