What a shame such a good course is spoilt by unbelievably bad organisation. Arrived at 11.45 for our 12.15 tee time to be told by the young bloke (who obviously had no interest working there) that our booked carts were no longer available. Not an ideal start, but not the end of the world. Then to see the old guy who was waiting in line behind us driving up to the first tee in a cart of his own (plus 2 unused carts parked in the garage) was very frustrating.
Our 12.15 tee time ended up being 12.45 with half of Sydney’s population waiting to tee off before us. Ended up taking over 3 hours to play the first 10 holes at which time we’d had enough of the waiting and left. There was a delay at each and every hole, with a wait of at least 10mins on each tee.
I have played Moore Park about 5 or 6 times and have only played the full 18 holes once, which gives you an indication of how poorly it is run. Until they get organised and book tee times a realistic amount of time apart, it is impossible to enjoy your round. I will avoid playing here and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under the current structure.

This course is fantastic. I played here on friday 30-1-09. The condition of the course is amazing, fairways greens and tees are all excellent. The thick trees either side of most fairways makes this course extremely challenging with a few very narrow fairways and sloped greens. It has amazing views over the city from some holes. I played on a quiet day and really enjoyed it. I would definately recommend it to any golfer.
I thought it was worth the money.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course for a significant amount of daylight savings after work nine hole games. I considered a number of 18 hole championship courses in the city for membership including Kogorah and East Lakes. Moore Park seemed to offer the best value, in terms of a membership and I enjoyed the course as a challenge. Whilst far too easy off the yellow markers, the white and then blue markers will stretch the game a lot more, with the par 5 4th one of the most challenging, genuine 3 shot Par 5’s around. Unless you can fly the ball in excess of 300M off the tee you won’t drive many of the Par 4’s (not the case at the clubs mentioned above) as the kakuya fairways will take away at least 15 metres of run. Whilst water and hazards aren’t prominant, the lay out of trees often at driving length and lush rough which will give the strongest hands a run for their money, you can miss the fairway by a foot and not be able to progress by much more than a 130 metres if you get unlucky.
The greens are deceptive and large, although sometimes the condition is not the best due to the enormous amount of social golf that is played. The bunkers have a bunch of soft sand in them and therefore are more hazardous than traditional shallow sand bunkers (if you fly the ball in there from a height you may struggle to find the ball plugged an inch under the sand).
Unfortuantely for the good social golfer on the weekend, the course is stupidly slow. Some of the social players really have no idea of etiquite, and I do wish golfers had to get a ‘etiquite license’ before being allowed on any course. I would definately recommend early morning, getting on as a members guest for competition play or choosing a weekday otherwise you will go loony.

Played a few times over the last year.
Firstly, it is very slow (with the exception of a 6.50am start).
Given the amount of traffic the course gets it is in fantastic condition, especially on the fairways. The greens show many many plug marks. I played on the weekend, and would repair two to three plug marks every hole. As a result they can be very bumpy, but still very remarkable how good condition they are in.
There are some great holes, my favourite being the 12th, with a massive bunker hidden behind trees to the right.
Pro Shop staff have been very unhelpful almost 100% of the time.
If you have an Entertainment Card, you can get 2 for 1 rounds of golf and 2 for 1 buckets of balls for the driving range.
The online booking system is great.
It’s not the most difficult course I’ve played, but very rewarding for a hack like me (walked away with 6 pars last round).

overall a pretty solid course, some challenging holes, notably the par 5 4th. i always seem to have a problem with the ground staff; hate the way they put pressure on players when i feel players should always have right of way. expect a wait at the first tee

People who suggest that Moore Park is overpriced then you must be really poor. To play an 18 hole course like this for $50 is good value in my opinion.
I have since joined as a member and find the members and staff affable, friendly and helpful. Social golf on weekends is very slow though, hence why I joined. Members get around in good time of 4 hrs approx.
When you have 9 hole courses like Nth Bondi and Botany charging $20 bucks per round and being of much less challenge and quality, Moore Park is good value. For social golf, just play on the weekdays or expect to get 9 holes.
You get what you p;ay for nowadays.
PROS
- Greens, Fairways, not menacing.
Cons
- Slow social play on weekends, social golfers tear up the greens and fairways.

I played this course last sunday(13.04.08).Overall experience was a good one, the course was in good condition, greens were a good challenge. Although I had some issues with my round, firstly the yellow tee markers were too far forward, probably to let the tee box grass grow as it had recently been worked on, another problem that I found was the lengh of time it took to get around, A couple of groups ahead of us were very slow but I was happy to see that the course attendants told them speed up which did help. The fee’s are a little on the high side but at $50 on weekends not the highest that you will find in Sydney. Overall I would say that Moore Park is defiantley worth a hit!

I played this course for the first time a couple of months ago and have been back a number of times to work on my game and reading a few of these reviews I could not let it go without telling it how it is.
After my first round at Moore Park I walked away from the course pleasantly surprised. For a “public course” It has near the best fairways I have played on. The course layout was quite good, with many different holes, I had NO unlucky kicks/bounces/rolls etc and I was rewarded for good shots.
As I walked the course I looked at its overall condition and took notice of all the pro’s and con’s as I am looking for a club to join in Sydney and what I noticed was that the poor condition of the Bunkers and Greens are due to the 100’s of inconsiderate hackers that play there and not the greens staff.
Hackers that think bunker shots are played with shovels and rakes are skinny people that stand on the side walk in Kings Cross. Hackers that think that if their ball does not remain on the green that it did not leave a pitch mark as it flew across it at 100mph before stopping in the rough or bunker to the side or over the back.
The Bunkers have good sand in them, I have not played in the comp of the weekend but Im sure the greens staff have them racked before the members kick off. .
The Greens have potential they are just too soft for the amount of social golfers that do their best to not repair them. Im no Green Keeper but i’d say they keep the greens as soft as what they do as if they were hard and fast it would take even longer for all these social players to get a round the course.
Personally I would look after my members before the social players but I guess being so close to the city they would get quite a good turn over for social golf.
And No, I am not a member of Moore Park Golf Club having a whinge at the social players, Im still searching for a Club to join, I just couldn’t see this course be slayed when It was not credited.

Horrible. We had an early booking for 18-holes but pro shop stuffed up by booking us too close to a competition. Moreover, they were unapologetic telling us to take a 9-hole round or leave it. Pretty harsh considering our group had to be up at the crack of dawn to make the early booking. On the course, members were rude to us ‘social’ golfers even though we were not holding up play. When we told the course marshall, he didn’t really care either. Seems to me that’s the kind of attitude they cultivate at Moore Park GC. All this on top of their over-priced green fees.

I am not sure what course this person is playing but the standard of the greens at Moore Park are better than any other public access courses that i know. I enjoy the overall experience at Moore Park and have seen great improvement recently, especially the spectacular new 5th hole overlooking sydney city.

How can a course with so much grass on the tees and fairways have such crappy greens. This is a great public course close to the CBD with all the facilities such as a large driving range but unfortunately I won’t be back with my mates until someone fixes the far below standard of the greens

Hi, i have recently taken up golf with my partner who plays on a regular basis at various golf courses in sydney. I had a wonderful experience at Moore Park Golf course, i have played in their women’s only tuesday social round(inc B’fast) a couple of times and i was overwhelmed at the support i was given by the other players and staff.
I have since played several rounds at Moore Park, and although the course is still challenging to me i have enjoyed this course considerably more so than most other public courses near to me. Congrats Moore Park, well done!

prior to last Wed, had never been a fan of Moore Park. for social play on weekends, forget it. takes an eternity to get around. hit off before work 5.50am, stormed around the course by 9.15am. annexed 46pts off my burgling 20 handicap. nice par 3 down the hill is currently out of action, but, they’ve spent some $ upgrading the paths and tees, making it a far better experience. play here early or not at all. $42.50 discount fee via the Net is ok.

Not worth it – $50 bucks and a 5 hour round. Booked tee time of 11:49, did not get away until at least 20 minutes after that. I wonder what would have happened if I had been 20 minutes late?
3 hours for the front nine. People must have dropped out of the field because the back nine only took 2 hours – thanks goodness. Playing off the yellow markers made the pars 5s short and unchallenging. Again, $50 bucks, not worth it.
I will be fair, the course is in pretty good shape and drained well after heavy rains. Greens were in good shape, but very 2 paced, although this could have been due to the rain?
Overall, won’t be back in a hurry.

Played on a Sunday for $50, way to much for what you get. It’s in good shaped for a public course that get’s that much traffic, but it’s not worth $50. Took 5 hours for 16 holes.

This is definently one spectacular public golf course. A challenging layout and perfectly manicured fairways and greens.
After being overseas for a length of time, and now returning to Sydney, i was extremely pleased to play a round of golf so close to the cbd with such fantastic views of the city.
The Driving Range was also a major feature of Moore Park that i would recommend . Unlike most practise ranges, the balls at Moore Park are excellent quality and not like the rocks you pay for at other ranges.
Well worth the price of green fees I will recommend this course to fellow sydney siders, interstate and overseas visitors.
Thank you to the staff that went out of their way to accomodate me and my guests, it was a great day. Well Done!

Measures 5805m Par 70 from the back blue plates (or 5565m from the white plates) with 6 Par 3s ranging from 135-205m, 8 Par 4s ranging from 285-410m and 4 unchallenging Par 5s ranging from 440-550m. Greens had good roll and speed, teebeds were flat with pletny of green cover and fairways were just as green with hardly any bad lies out there.
Relatively easy course, with a few challenges, mainly the par 3s, as all 6 are well-bunkered with double tier sloping greens, with different clubs used off the tee. The Par 5s are unimaginative, with par just about penciled in at the tee.
Some good par 4s here though: 363m 8th with Dacey Avenue on your left and an uphill elevated green with hidden bunker on right. 310m 12th dogleg right with a green superbly bunkered. 407m 18th (index 1) is another testy par 4 with dogleg right, with stray range balls littering the leftside rough, and a large heavily sloping green that makes a 2 putt look good.
Played here today and paid $45 weekday green fees and finished my round in 2.5 hours with an early morning start the best time here for quick easy round. Prices are probably high because of the tourists that frequent this course, but next time I would give the course a skip and use their driving range, which is the undoubtedly the best feature of Moore Park.

Played today (Tuesday, 8 Aug 2006) and the course was in great condition. Thanks to all of the recent rain, the fairways were lush and the greens running great. A couple had just been aerated, but were still very puttable. The course actually played pretty fast today - we got around in just over 3 hours. Definitely better than the weekend 5 hour tee box waiting marathons that I've suffered through at most Sydney area courses. Weekday golf is so much more relaxing!
This is a good course considering how close it is to the city, but it is a bit lacking in hazards/interesting features (no water and no striking views anywhere, unless you consider the parking lot of the Supa Center striking). Overall, a good place to get a round if you don't have time to get out of the city, but nothing spectacular and a bit on the expensive side.

Played the course a few times and not once did I leave wanting to go back.
Staffs have an attitude problem. Unfriendly, un-welcoming, and unplesant.
Course is in okay condition. I don't like the design of the holes though. A lot of them are strange and have no real purpose behind them.

I have to agree with the majority of other comments here.
Staff need lessons in customer service, but if the club is trying to develop a culture of exclusivity such as near neighbours and driver visitors away then keep it up.
Will never return.

Course is in good nick but its just not worth the anguish. Staff are clowns and don't understand the concept of `making a booking'.
We made a booking at 12:39 and we hit our first shot at 1:30. The round itself took six hours and to top it all off, it costs $50.
All wrong!

I've been here for a few times now but my impression is not getting any better. For $45.00 w'day rate is far too expensive for the the poorly maintained field. Traffic noise at some holes was distracting. Staff at the pro shop were biased, unfriendly and indifferent. I don't even want to think anything worse.

Yeah, this isn't the best - I remember a guy in a pub was trying to convince me, no, hang on - he was "telling" me that Moore Park was better than the coast and better maintained. I was stunned.
I've played here 6 or 7 times and it's okay - hey, it's a golf course. You can get the driver out and have a bash - make sure you have your lawyer with you as you may well kill someone driving along South Dowling STreet or Anzac Parade.
I'd rather play other courses such as the coast but if you haven't played it, give it a go. For $50 it is a rip off though.

Didn't rate this place at all - poorly maintained was my only lasting impression of my round here - which can't be good.
The obvious attraction of Moore Park is that it's the course nearest the city - but my advice would be to get in a car and travel North, South or West for half an hour where you'll find much better courses than Moore Park - Asquith in the North, Fox Hills in the West and even Woolooware (for a good value round) in the South.

I played this course for the first time today and would recommend it to anyone. It is a real test of golf if your handicap is in the low twenties but there is something there for the low markers as well.
The course is generally well maintained and the fairways are much better grassed than most public access courses at this time of drought.
There are a few blind shots but who cares when your aiming point is Sydney Tower?
Many of the greens are huge, so three putts are quite common.
An added bonus is the club house which contains lots of old photos, plans and other memorabilia.

A cheap course to play on, so great for the beginner. However a generally poorly maintained course, with fairways keeped too long, and greens with large patches of sand. Layout is difficult to understand for the first-timer, with many tees unable to see the green. Many par 3, so a high score is to be expected. Not the best, but still a course which could be played on, if desperate.

The re-design from quite a few years back makes this a reasonally challenge. Well bunkered, but well defined approach shots from mostly flat fairways.
Tends to be a very busy course, so make sure you book.

Overall I think Moore Park is a really decent course in (for me) an amazingly convenient inner city location.
I organized a social competition here in November and all the pro shop staff were really helpful and the ability to book a couple of weeks ahead online was good. We had a change on the day and it was no hassles and the helpful starter had us away on time (tee off times around 1.30pm).
The course has real variety in its layout and was a good challenge for our mix of mid to high handicappers. There isn’t a lot of trouble at Moore Park but it still requires some accurate tee and approach shots to score well. Out of 13 guys playing the winner scored 35 stableford points but if you had some local knowledge you will score better.
