A good members’ course with a par of 72 (rating 72) for men and 74 (rating 75) for ladies. Greens were in excellent condition, the fairways were well grassed and the bunkers had a good sand base and were in good condition. Off the fairways was a bit rough, but you aren’t supposed to be there. Lots of big trees make some drives tight and you need to hit the fairway to score. An interesting layout, with some slight undulations, but easily walked. There are a lot of dogleg holes, mainly right to left, but always interesting. It is a private Members course and we are fortunate enough to have reciprocal rights. We played on a Monday morning and had the course to ourselves, so got around in about 3 1/2 hours. If you are in the area and know someone to get you on it is definitely worth playing.

Played Mount Lawley about 12 months ago as a visitor and got a good look at the course. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of playing all of Perth’s top quality courses in competition events, excluding Meadow Springs and the Cut in the Peel region which are still on the "to do" list.

Mount Lawley comes across as posh as ever, with its elegant looking clubhouse and practice greens, overlooking Perth city to the south. The setting makes it feel like a great place to play golf. However for the membership price, I feel the course doesnt quite come up to the standards set by the Vines, Western Australian Golf Club and Joondalup. This is despite its very close location to the city, being 10 minutes north.

Mount Lawley has a good lenthy layout with reasonably undulative topography and good, large greens that you’d expect from such a private course. But the bunkering and fairways were a big let down for me and this was a surprise. Not only were they patchy in places but some were not green at all really, in fact dying. Many of my lies were tight and sandy, even after I hit a few drives down the middle. The bunkering for me was inconsistent, they all needed a good top up of sand. I hit shots fat and thin all over the place and thought the whole thing really needed a good watering and coring.

I found Western Australian Golf course to have a much better layout. Mount Lawley in places is very tight, namely the short par 4 17th thats about 280m long and doglegs almost 90 degrees to the right. Go right off the tee and you are dead. My pick hole of the course was the par 3 over in the back right northern corner of the course, which measured about 210m and played into the wind on the day. It was well bunkered and the green a challenge to putt on. This was a good tough hole.

This course boasts potential but there is a great deal of work to be done before I’ll ever consider forking out the membership fees, let alone jump on the waiting list. I’d take WAGC over it any day of the week. 3 Stars.

Subtly undulating course and good practise facilities. However compared to other courses in the vicinity it probably is not as interesting. Could do with improvement in its bunkering .

First time I have played it in 10 years. Unfortunately in the middle of renovations with 4 holes out of play and a couple of others shorted to make a temp course, but the quality is becoming clear. New greens and bunker work is excellent and clearing out trees is a good sign. Will be close to teh best course in Perth in a few years if they continue in this vein.

A course that hails from a gentler time. Not on the grand scale of Karrinyup, the Vines, Kennedy Bay etc. I agree with previous comments about poor bunkering, and even then the place would probably not hold up to an Ernie Els barrage, but a very enjoyable and testing place for mortals and all for $35 for an interstate visitor - the best value in Perth.

An old private club of the highest rank but don't take themselves too seriously, treated me very well; I will be back.

A really good course, but not a really really good course. Great layout with excellent playing surfaces but bunkering is unimaginative and does not take advantage of the sandbelt land on which it is built, although I hear there are plans to rectify this. Otherwise worth a visit, low profile but one of the better tracks in Perth.
