Oatlands Golf Club

Sydney, NSW | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.5) | Add A Review

Oatlands is a relatively young Golf Club formed in 1931 but its fairways, greens and clubhouse are rich in historical background, being located on one of the oldest settlements in Australia (Parramatta) and only minutes from the 2000 Olympic Games site.

The course itself is a test of golf and boasts some of the best par 3’s in the land.

Over rated. All the new renovations and additions have clearly taken up a lot of the course staff’s time as the rest of the course and around the greens remains very patchy and uncut. A bit more time and money keeping the place up to A-Grade standard would be an idea, rather than putting all your resources in to keeping the low markers in check. All the changes seem like they will make it impossible for all the older players with high handicaps which Oatlands have a high percentage of.

A couple of good par 3’s – and maybe only 2-3 other holes which are of any enjoyment

I have watched all of the recent course redevelopments at Oatlands with great interest and must conclude that the course has become a top metropolitan golf course.

The recently redeveloped 2nd hole is the highlight for me, a formidable 209 metre par three that generally plays into the breeze is a real jewel in the crown! Other holes that have always impressed me at Oatlands are the 6th, 14th and 15th – to my mind the 15th is among Sydney’s best Par 5’s.

Golf aside, there is always a good feel in Oatlands – there is no hint of snobbery attached with other Sydney clubs and the staff in both the clubhouse and pro-shop are very helpful and courteous. It is no wonder that Oatlands will play host to the NSW Ladies Open for the coming years!

good facilities, excellent tight fairways, true fast greens and not so long that the average golfer cant score. enough well positioned bunkers, waterhazards and overhanging trees to ensure that all holes are challenging. lots of subtle hills and doglegs to test your club selection.

in past reviews people say that the 2 par 5's are weak but the downhill dogleg left 8th can only be reached in 2 with an excellent tee shot over high trees (230m carry, if you dont make it you will be punished) follwed by a mid iron to a well guarded green. par 5's are supposed to be birdie oppourtunity's arnt they. and the other par 5 the 14th is 450 odd meters from the back tees, with a blind shot into a narrow green with bunkers swallowing anything short and ob over the back and left. while not overly long these two holes provide you with scoring chances but punish poor shots dearly, the way golf should be.

all in all a great course in excellent condition to challenge all parts of your game. well worth a visit.

As you would expect found the course in great condition with nice hard and fast greens and genourous grassed fairways.

Played there in a Saturday open day so I only paid $10. Open days are $50... not worth it for that price.

The holes where they have reconstructed are very nice and good test of golf however found the Par 5s quite weak.

Nice members course

I had a pleasant experience recently playing Oatlands for the first time in about four years. If you have not played Oatlands in the last couple of years you will be impressed by what they have done. There has been significant investment, with many upgraded greens, bunkers and tees, and with a new watering system ensuring fantastic fairways even in these dry times.

The course is not crowded, permitting a leisurely game round an interesting lay out. The gum-lined fairways have always provided a testing environment and a beautiful setting, and the staff in the pro shop and clubhouse are as helpful and friendly as ever.

All in all a wonderful way to spend a day on a challenging golf course.

4 stars

We played Oatlands recently during an Open Day and were very impressed with the improvements made in the past two years.

The whole course was in immaculate condition with well grassed fairways and true greens. The new bunkers were excellent to play out of.

There seems to be an entire class of Sydney courses with similar characteristics. Oatlands is certainly one of them.

Not particularly long, and weak par 5's.

Narrow, tree-lined kikuyu fairways that ensure errant drives are punished.

Smallish, well bunkered greens that are difficult to recover par at if you miss the green, but excellent putting surfaces.

The only real difference from Bankstown, Strathfield etc. is that Oatlands is generally up and down some gentle hills, so distances are hard to judge.

The 9th is a great 150m par 3 across the gully to a highly elevated green. Miss the green short or left and you'll be 20 feet below the green surface.

The course routing is quite unusual (and a but confusing). If I was in charge I'd change it so they didn't finish with a weak 120m par 3. It loses a ball off my ranking because of this.

A tight course with narrow, tree lined fairways. The greens arn't large & are well bunkered, so the emphasis is on accuracy, both from the tee & with the approach shots.

The course doesn't play too long, so a 3 wood or even an iron can be taken off the tee on many of the holes, without penalising you too much.

They have an open comp. day on Fridays, so it is well worth a visit if you are a member of an AGU club.
