Played here on a monday competition and went around in 4hrs10mins. Pretty standard for any public course playing time. 6hrs must have been a sunday after social clubs. The tenth tee is still in the process of resewing, so teeing up is mandatory on the fairway. Good challenging course with long par 4’s that are reachable in two. Found shopstaff to be fine and well organised on the day. Not too wet under foot due some drainage done over the last 6 months. Overall a good course, pity about the golfer playing it.

Not a bad course, fairly flat, the layout is good also. The most disgraceful thing is though it can take 6 hours for a round of golf, there is no marshalling and staff in the club shop couldn’t care less about the slow speed of play. Don’t think I’ll be playing here again because of this fact.

PROS

  • Nice course design

Cons

  • Allow 6 hours to get around

The wind was strong and there is little protection from trees. That with the ground underfoot being sodden and it took a while to get over. LLamas are adjacent to the 7th green, prompting one Kiwi to yell "Theyre big sheep". Clubhouse is ok as well and despite the signs you can have a beer around the course. 4 hours to finish in those conditions and getting held up by a few groups in front of was not too bad. Would like to try it in more favourable conditions as it looked ok. Could do with a little bit better signage but played once you wouldn't forget it. Hidden creeks everywhere.

Flat is an understatement when describing Pakenhame Golf Club, there is not a hill in sight. However it is still a reasonably interesting country course with water hazards coming into play on many holes. Fairways are Santa Anna Couch and are very good condition during summer, however drainage is an issue during winter. Greens are small but are of high quality. Some very interesting holes with 6 and 12 being the standouts.
