Palm Meadows Golf Club

Gold Coast, QLD | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.5) | Add A Review

Palm Meadows is a course of such an excellent standard as to allow the staging of the Palm Meadows Cup – a tournament recognised by many as being years ahead of its time, and until recently the richest tournament held in Australia.

Designed by leading Australian golfer Graham Marsh, Palm Meadows was one of the first championship courses on the Gold Coast. Palm Meadows emerged from 350 hectares of marshland, just a few kilometres west of Surfers Paradise. A par 72 measuring 6319 metres off the championship tees with water coming into play on 14 of the holes, along with 82 sand bunkers.

An increasing number of returning international players are experiencing the challenges that Palm Meadows presents. The first hole is regarded by many as one of the worlds most challenging opening holes. With water running the entire length of the hole on the left and the world famous ‘bamboo Curtain’ on the right, golfers must have their ‘game’ from the first shot of the day.

The signature hole at Palm Meadows is the world famous 18th hole. Measuring 523 metres from the championship tees, the player has the opportunity to chance their arm as to how much of the dogleg right they want to cut off.

Palms Meadows is a completely public course and as such there are no tee times reserved for members. Golfers are able to enjoy the facilities at anytime, however bookings are advisable to avoid disappointment.

I can safely say it’s the first time I’ve ever lost a ball in a bunker (or should I say swimming pool!). The greens were slow and a bit patchy but I’m going to put that down to the weather. The course was in good shape given it was almost closed due to the amount of rain they had in the days before we played. Even though we lost countless balls we had a great day out and will definitely be back for a game when the course has dried out.

Overall good course not the picture-rest course
I was looking for. Beautiful greens and fairways

Judging by how many people are playing here recently, it seems like its only a matter of time before the course gets a make over and takes the next step up to be one of the best courses on the coast. Things like a nice rock retaining wall with waterfall on 11, a moat bunker on 17, what about a 50 metre wide 60 metre long soft landing artificial grass pontoon on 18. Gives you a chance to hit the green in 2. Imagine the draw card that would be.

Great layout..hadnt been here for a few years but the greens are a joke!

Member said it is a disease but whole course looks tired and lacks some tlc.

18th is still a ripper!

I would prefer to go elsewhere on the coast..not worth $65 in a cart imo!

PROS

Cons

  • The rakes should be left on the edge of the bunkers not right in the centre of the bunkers

Played 10th May 2013. Course in good condition. Very true greens, fairly slick but not at their fastest. Challenging layout, very enjoyable to play. Got around in 3.5h during a weekday. Excellent value for money.

You sometimes forget how good a course Palm Meadows is compared to more high profile courses. We played here on Friday 3-05-13 and after finishing the round we all agreed this was in the top 3 courses we had played and that included Hope Island,Sanctuary Cove,Royal Pines,The Glades,Robina and Tweed River Course.
The 18th is one of the best finishing Golf Holes I have ever played.AT $55 it is GREAT VALUE

Played sunday May 5, course was in good condition, lovely greens, fairways nice although a little scruffy in places. Some bunkers are no more than dirt with stones wehcih was surprising.
18th hole is fantastic, would like another go and bite more off, its reachable in 2.
Only criticism really is the servic. Compared with other courses in the South east its poor. The welcome was not there, no one at bag drop and if you needed anything from the on course cart forget it. It went by fast, no stopping and waiting for players on the green. If you were lucky enought to stop it, the service was frosty.
Overall, great course, poor service.

Played 3/5/13. $55 with a cart through Iseek. Course was in fantastic condition – greens were lightning fast. Challenging course and busy but the two of us got round in 3.5 hours. Very friendly staff in the pro shop. Will definitely be back.

Course is very nice at the moment. It does need a mow off the fairways though. Lost 3 balls that I know landed just off the fairway but simply could not find them. I played lakelands today and didn’t lose a single ball even though I missed a couple of fairways. Pro shop guy was great and so were the 2 groups that let me play through. Great value at 39 bucks. Be back soon .

Played today and really enjoyed it. Course was in good condition. Some really well thought out holes. Greens were sandy in places, but, lightning quick with a lot of break on most. Being a public holiday and beautiful weather I was expecting a slowish round and got one, 4h45m. Would play again for sure.

Great course, not very friendly staff or members. As we were on holidays and didnt really care how long a round was going to take, maybe you shouldn’t have allowed me to book a tee time in the middle of your tournament.

Scruffy around the edges, very little sand in the bunkers, greens had a lot of divots in them – course needs some TLC

Course was pretty much water logged from the extensive amount of rain received over the last 2 weeks, but credit to the staff for keeping on top of these extreme conditions and allowing golf to continue albeit under trying conditions.

We last played here 2 years ago when the course was in very poor condition. I am glad to see the course has returned to the great track I remember from when I first played here in 2006.
A good test and the 18th is still one of my favourite finishing holes in golf. The greens were very quick.
Went for a well earned beer after our round only to find the bar closed.

Sunday 17 February.

Clubhouse closed, no drinks cart, couple of soggy sandwiches in the fridge.

Course was mostly in good condition after heavy rain although some of yhe greens were poorly repaired by previous players; is it that difficult to carry a pitch fork round and tend to the greens?

Considering it poured down and we came off after 9 holes not having any of the facilities open was disappointing. Noticed the hotel has changed from the Radisson to a Mercure; not sure if this is anything to do with it.
Given the choice between Colonial and Palm meadows which are usually about the same price on iseekgolf I’ll be going to Colonial next time.

I said I will play here again, and don’t regret my decision. This was one of the first courses opened again after the recent flooding. The course has stood up well to the rain, with virtually no standing water on any fairways – the ground does not feel overly soggy underfoot, but always hit an extra club. Bunkers were GUR and the par 5 9th was converted to a par 3. An enjoyable experience once again – don’t forget you get a free Palm Meadows cap if you book on iseekgolf.com

Fairways, greens and surroundings all in fantastic playing conditions. Able to have a warm up hit at the great practice facilities too. Only thing letting the course down was the state of the bunkers. Miss them and you have no issue. Apart from the course, there was no drinks and food cart on the course and they had the bar closed by the time we finished. Devastating.

Played at Palm Meadows on 27th December and to be honest wasn’t overly impressed. I thought the course was in pretty ordinary condition. The bunkers were rock hard with not much sand at all. The greens were patchy and had a mixture of grasses through them.
I don’t know if I would rush back there with so many other courses on the coast.
The pro shop staff were more interested in the cricket than serving customers and the drinks cart bloke was pretty unfriendly.
I grabbed the deal off iseek but I don’t think it was worth the $55, maybe $25 would of been closer to the mark.
It’s not what it once was thats for sure!!!!

Still a good course despite looking a little aged. Plenty of water to provide a challenge but course is not overly long. Really enjoyed our round, only negative was the state of the bunkers which were all rock hard. Great value for $49.

Good customer service, well stocked pro shop. Could do with the rough being grown longer, good shots were punished by just creeping into the second cut close to water hazards.

Greens and fairways in pretty good condition. Plays pretty short from the whites… Most par 4 only requiring a 3 wood.

Great course, we are only beginners so found it pretty challenging but had a great day. The greens had been watered well, so while the course is fairly dry (but hey what part of the Gold Coast isnt at the moment??), it was still nice to play on. We arrived fairly early but the starter managed to get us on course earlier than our designated tee off time which was great.

Course in very good condition, glad it rained, the greens were still pretty quick and hard. Would have been interesting if it hadn’t rained. Found it very challenging off the tee. They love there bunkers.

Excellent and efficient check in service at the pro shop which is very well equipped at reasonable prices. The course is in great condition given their limited budget. The greens are superb, holding pitch shots and needing good putting on the slick surface. Tee boxes and fairways in pretty good shape. All in all representing top value for the golfing dollar. We will certainly go again but as the price was the same at the pro shop we might book direct and save the booking fee.

Palm Meadows was basked in beautiful Queensland winter sunshine yesterday afternoon when we teed off at about noon yesterday. Without any rain for most of the last month, the course was in great nick and the greens true and fast. A great day out with the mid week Ekka Day public holiday providing us with the perfect excuse to head off down to the Gold Coast.
The pace of play was reasonably good, although the foursome in front of us could learn a few simple tricks about speeding up play (like putting before your partners if you’re already on the green and they’re stuck in the bushes etc). All in all, a very pleasant afternoon

A course that clearly has seen better days. It is to be hoped that fairway

The main problem though is the slowness of play. There was no evidence of
a course Marshall to rectify this.

We had a group of seven players and the course was in fairly good condition with the exception of some of the bunkers which were not very well sanded and quite bare, as well a lot of players don’t rake the bunkers and you could quite often end up in a very poor position. Some of the less skilled players preferred this to the other courses we played. The greens were very good.

fairways – good greens – good (pace could be deceptive) layout a bit one-dimensional but good test and enjoyable 4 1/2 hours

74. slikisist | Rated | 06 Aug 2012 | Add A Review

Greens were lovely to play on however the bunkers were not very well sanded and many hard a hard bottom under a small amount of sand.

I must say, it was a pleasure to play on a course where the lakes and waterways don’t look like some kind of green toxic waste dump. Not sure what they do differently but the waterways were all clear and clean.

Fairways were a little patchy in some points so there was the occasional "odd" lie.

Staff were very helpful and well organised. The group ahead of us were playing pretty slowly and held us up all day. Clear space ahead of them so it would have been nice for a course marshall to give them a hurry up. Took us 4 1/2 hours to play which is very slow given we were all in carts.

I’d definitely play there again – worth $50.

My visit to Palm Meadows did not start well. I needed to to use the bathroom and it was disgusting! My guess is that it is given a very quick clean every few days but it has not been cleaned properly for a long time. We had an 11:51 am tee off time but for some reason, although I had all the iseekgolf paperwork with me, they could not find my booking and after making a phone call allowed us to play. We teed off about 15 minutes late which really didn’t bother us too much as we were out for a relaxing day. I thought the condition of the course was nowhere near as good as it used to be but it wasn’t too bad. One thing that really annoyed us is that the bunkers didn’t have sand in them but instead some kind of dirt. They were hard and using the usual bunker techniques were a bit dangerous as the club would hit a hard surface about 15mm under the dirt and then bounce off quite often causing the ball to be hit "thin". The other frustration was the "don’t cross with your buggy" blue line drawn about 50 to 60 metres from the flag. I have a bad foot from an old injury and it was frustrating to have a buggy but having to park so far away from the green, well further away than any other golf club I’ve played at. All in all we had a good day but unfortunately I will not be returning to Palm Meadows again in a hurry if at all.

Played here yesterday, and it was an awesom day for golf. Too bad I can’t play golf, but it was a great day none the less. The course was very nice and well kept. the course is challenging with some fairway bunkers and water hazards with built in ball magnets, some greens were narrow and pin placements meant you have to be almost exact with your approach.

Palm Meadows is a beautiful course, quite challenging, yet not ridiculous for the average golfer. Greens are very fast which makes putting tricky. We had a good day, but groups in front could have been given a hurry up by the marshall. We hit off at 1.03pm and didn’t have enough light to finish the last. Carts are well serviced and in top condition. Side eskys are filled with ice on delivery which is a nice touch.

Played 20 May 2012.

Really liked this course. Condition was excellent, although the bent grass greens are very soft which is unusual in Qld and the bunkers don’t have much sand (but I personally don’t mind that).

Every hole is different so it is not boring. Off the whites it is a fairly short course, but there is plenty of bunkers, water, doglegs and other natural obstacles to ensure that you can’t just bang and expect to get lucky.

I am really looking forward to playing the course again.

PROS

  • Variety
  • Course in very good condition
  • Many holes give you options on how to play them
  • Interesting greens with lots of shape

Cons

  • Short off the whites especially

Played Sunday 20th May off the white tees which makes it quite a short course, You need to have a strict mindset around course management here. The fairways are hard and you get lots of roll off the tee, a driver is seldom required on this course as you’ll run through fairways behind palm trees and into fairway bunkers. This course will bite you in the ass if you have an I’ll go for it attitude, the best approach on many holes is to hit an appropriate club off the tee so you are on the fairway if that means hitting a 5 iron/hybrid/3 wood etc then do it, that will allow you to then hit your second shot onto the greens on par the 4s, as appossed to chipping out or reloading on the tee. If you play this course as it is meant to be played, you’ll play well, or do as I did and through the course managemnt book out the window and you’ll shoot heaps. The par 3s are pretty simple and the par 5s should be par 4s off the white markers.

PROS

  • hard fast fairway lots of roll
  • Strategicly designed, good layout
  • Plenty of water but it could be more in play making it more punishing if you stray
  • Drinks cart is never far away

Cons

  • hard fast fairway lots of roll
  • Holes too short off the white tees
  • bunkers have no sand in them, dirt or top soil very shallow

The course was in pretty good condition, even though there had been some recent heavy rain in the previous week. Most of the bunkers were in play and the sand was not packed in to hard as might have been expected.

The layout of this course is great. There are a number of challenging shortish par 4s and longish par 3s that will challenge the golfer around short placement. It is a real thinking golfer’s course.

The older gents I was playing with, held up their own against me with better putting on the multi level greens.

I have lived on the gold coast for 27 years now. Palm meadows is definetly good value for money for 49.50 with cart. I was a member of Robina Woods and Arundel for years when i was a junior and all 3 of those courses are great layouts. I think Palm Meadows would be most suitable for the social golfer as it is the easiest course of the 3. Although Robina Woods isnt very difficult of the Whites. IF you are a good golfer who wants a serious challenge I recomend Robina Woods & Arundel of the backs. However if your the majority and looking for a easier golf course and cheaper green fees than palm meadows is the option for you.

Course in good condition after the past days rain.
We were teamed with 2 others playing in the comp, good info from these guys about the course.
Staff in particular the starter was arrogant and we had to interrupt his idle chatter with a young member to ask which cart to use so we could begin playing.
Drink and food cart around often.

I find most reviews are based on someone’s particular day out and don’t really give you much about the golf course. As a 12 hcp player I like to play a course with a challenge. Palm Meadows is a very good quality track. The Tees are manicured, the fairways were great, don’t think I had a bad lie all day, every bunker is the same in sand base, and the greens were spot on, but bring your A game, these greens are big, undulating and pretty quick. If your a golfer who plays a bit, you won’t be dissappointed. If your a social hitter, bring extra balls, there’s trouble everywhere. The signature 18th is sight from the tee. Serious value for money, great course. I,m going to join as a new member in July.

Have always enjoyed playing Palm Meadows as it is both challenging and rewarding. But at the moment I am very disappointed with the state of the bunkers. Given it is the Gold Coast, it shouldn’t be far to go to get some sand for them. Makes it really hard to play a decent bunker shot. Club house staff were very obliging in getting us organised and onto the course.

Condition was a bit average (tee-boxes etc) and compares poorly to other GC resort courses… The 18th is worth the trip – the tee-shot is a great test. a 3hr back nine was also a bit frustrating – not sure why it got so slow (on a Sunday morning).

Played here for the first time in years. Overall the course is in good condition but they need to not called them bunkers with sand but dried raked mud. As for the greens they were so slow that any break that you noticed never happened because of the slowness of the surface.

  • Overall course condition

Not impressed with giving credit card details as surety for golf buggy. Never done that before anywhere in the world. PLayed here yesterday, beautiful course.
I know I’m a very ordinary golfer however I found this course to be really hard. There’s bunkers or water on just about every fairway. The bunkers near the greens on the front 9 are very deep & hard to get out of.
The course really forces you to think about what club to use off the tee.
The fairways are really hard at the moment which is surprising given we’ve had a bit rain.
The greens are excellent. It just rolls & rolls, the finest tap will get it there.
The signature 18th hole really is a cracker.

I found the staff to be friendly enough.

Wonderful quality greens, good size and good pace with great undulations. However the fairwys were hard, need water or more soil, difficult to get under the ball. The bunkers were poor quality with only 2 cms of soft sand, it was like playing off a fairway.
Staff member that greeted me and issued me my cart was unfriendly and had no manners (not thankyou, no please, have a good game etc). No one to greet me at club drop off, Unable to drive cart back to my vehicle after the game. Given that all that is acceptable for discounted price of $40 not at full price. Other courses offer better.

Played with a mate and joined up with a local member which helped heaps for some local knowledge :) The greens were in awesome condition… consistent, decent speed and even all the way round the course. Fairways were a little dry, but understandable since no rain for about a month. Bunkers had very hard sand. Highlight was taking on the lake on the 18th and smashing it over before landing 5iron on the green and just missing eagle putt.

Played there yesterday 15/11/11. The fairways were average but the greens were true and in good condition. Nice and picturesque layout. Staff were friendly as were members who were happy to let us play through as we were quicker. A major problem was the slow play of the 2 groups in front of us. After the 5th hole, were were on average, waiting 8mins to tee off each hole thereafter and taking about 15-20mins to complete each hole due to the slow play ahead!! This was really annoying when we could have completed the course in about 3.5hours normally. In their defense however, the group in front of us were held up from the group in front of them. They really should have a course marshal. They should also have a drinks cart going around the course…if they do, we did not see one!

The course is rebounding weel, and was in better condition than I expected. The one thing a golfer enjoys is consistency of pace and break from one green to the next, and I have to say that this was very evident on the course yestreday. The greens were very good, and despite looking a little weather worn and patchy here and there, they were a joy to play. Some of the bunkers were a little hard pan, but mostly OK. The course remains one of the best on the GC for variety and playability. Congratulations to the ground staff.

14 out of 18 holes feature water sounds pretty scary. Not so, the course is challenging but fair. I enjoyed the round even though the bunkers were gur due to heavy overnight rain. The bunkers would have been more challenging than the water with most of them coming into play off the tee and shots into the greens, I think I found 60% of them. The greens were a bit slow most likely due to the rain and not being cut I gave them 7/10 fairways also 7/10. All in all a realy good layout and enjoyable to play. Would go back again.

Having been a visitor to The Goldie for many years, I had always been put off by the expensive green fees @ Palm Meadows GC. However after it’s recent much publicised financial troubles & a much more realistic fee structure (how on earth did they think they could charge $100+ for 18 holes in the past ?), I finally played the course.

The course was in decent nick, considering it’s winter time & it’s been dry & cold. I’ve seen better greens & better bunkers, but they weren’t too bad, but I was impressed by the overall layout of the course & some of the thinking of the strategic placement of overhanging trees & bunkers.

A thinker’s course for sure is PM GC & comparing it to my recent (more expensive) visits to Lakelands & The Glades, I would have to say that from my experience, PM GC is on a par with those 2 more illustrious courses & at a much better cost.

A good layout and a challenging course but the course condition is pretty poor compared to similar priced courses on the Coast. Tee areas uneven and worn. Ruff overly long – though the weather meant that it wouldn’t have been mown in a long while. Greens good. Had a 30min delay in teeing off.

I agree with Rigethaca, very slow round with little help from marshalls. Condition was non-existent and I would be better off pocketing the $59 and playing in the local park!

RIJETHECA you must be kidding yourself, 4 and a half hours is fully acceptable unless you are playing on a deserted course like maybe Robina or Colonial….? Played there on Sunday, yes it was busy but marshals were present and course condition has improved greatly since re-opening.

Course is on quite good condition at then moment. Fairways and greens are good…. bunkers were ok to fair with a lot of water and mud in them.

When we played (Thursday) there was a HUGE amount of people on the course! tee off time was 10 mins late and the first 9 took close to 3 hours. There were course Marshals trying to sort it out though.

ONLY 2 OF US, AND TOOK 4 AND A HALF HOURS TO PLAY. SHOCKINGLY SLOW PLAY. NOT IMPRESSED. 2 PLAYERS SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 3 AND A QUARTER HOURS AT THE VERY MOST. ALSO WAS BEING FORCED TO PLAY WITH ANOTHER 2 STRANGERS WHEN WE DIDN’T WANT TO.

WON’T BE BACK. COURSE IN GOOD CONDITION THOUGH.

Course was in reasonable condition, considering the extremely we weather. To nit-pick, the greens were a bit rough and slow but not too bad.
Very good value for money and standing on the 18th tee for the first time is one of golf’s great experiences.

I had heard that the course maintenace / green keeping had been let go after the demise of the previuos owner . The new lessee is turning that around . Greens are pretty rough & bare, not good at all.
Fairways are good, but rough is very rough, not well maintained.

Still one of my favourites!Abit run down at the moment but very good value at $50. the 5 hour round was a bit long, too much searching for balls in longish grass just off the fairway, (almost every group). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very enjoyable day.

After reading reviews thought i would have around. At $49 you can’t go to far wrong. The course was in good condition fairways very good and after the wet the rough is getting under control. The greens had some brown patches but ran pretty true. Like any course if you hit straight you will have a good day out, if your wayward there is some forgiving areas and others that will chew up a ball. Definately challenging and I would play again.

Really enjoyed playing with a couple of trainee pros. Whilst the course is still a bit wet in places, understandably, and the bunkers were all GUR I still like the layout, particularly off the blues. Some really good holes that will test any golfer and reward those who are game enough to take on some of the more challenging shots.

played at Palm Meadows on Saturday Jan 15 for the first time since it re-opened. Its great to have such an iconic course up and running again. Considering the course was closed for 5 months and the crazy amount of rain we’ve had since it re-opened I think the groundstaff have done a great job out there. Had a great feed after the game and I can definitley say Palm Meadows is BACK!!!!!!

Played there yesterday 13th Jan. Very wet still. Fairways and rough haven’t been mowed for some time due to the rain. If your tee shot didn’t hit the fairway you were almost guaranteed to lose your ball, mind you I still managed to lose a couple landing on the fairway. Greens were in good condition and consistent. Bunkers were Gur. And daily rule was to lift, clean and place. Pro shop staff were very helpful. A good course overall, definitely not is it was but can’t help the rain much. Quite a challenging layout. Would play again.

The course was in very poor condition. We can understand that the volume of rain recently in South East Qld may have reduced the ability to cut the grass on the fairway frequently, however it was unnaceptably long. The bunkers had no sand and trhe course generally was in poor repair.
It will suffer by comparison with its near neighbour Lakelands which is in excellent condition undedr the same weather condition.

Hi all, so glad to see this plush and testy course re-open, cheers to the new owners/investors as we have already lost to many courses to the pocket filling developers.
Sadly myself and my brother outlaw played on the 23/12/2010 and after the subsequent deluge of rain we have had the course was 95 percent casual water, most bunkers were unplayable and I believe we should have been entitled to a raincheck, sadly Iseekgolf.com will only give a raincheck if the pro closes the course on the day. I have played comp golf for many years with many days playing socially as well and we all know if you are playing an important event and are playing well it wouldn’t matter if it was raining cats and dogs , you would generally finish your game to hand a card in, however, I have had much feedback from lots of golfers(playing socially) saying they would rather pay the extra fees and be guaranteed a raincheck rather than to lose their fees or be forced to play in the rain and mud!.
No pros, no cons, no course rating, the course should have been closed! I have just tried to submit my review and can’t unless I give the course a rating, so this rating is an on the day rating and should not reflect on the course generally. (poor management by Iseekgolf.com and the managing pro on the day!)
I therefor suggest to Iseekgolf.com to seriously look at this area of their business and come to a reasonable resolution for the benefit of all golfers.

Great to return for $50 but course not like it use to be, hopefully in time condition will improve. Layout is one of the most enjoyable on the coast. Got some nice Hotties in the bar and drinks cart! Played New Years eve and whilst there were heaps on the course still had a great day. Were supposed to play at Colonial but didnt have my boat license to navigate the course. Was glad that Palm Meadows was open with carts and could squeeze us on. Sure it was a bit muddy in the rough but fairways and greens were really good. Rough was pretty rough but the greens were mint and the layout is just awesome. For 50 bucks i thought it was great value. Will certainly go back especially when the rain leaves and they can get on top of cutting the rough.

Played Palm Meadows for the first time. Course condition can be described as a "work in progress" at this stage. After being shut down for a time and the wet weather that has been aroud the grounds staff are obviously struggling to get on top of things. The fairways and greens are in good condition, with the fairways being soft. Rough, in places is thick and punishing but thats golf. The course has a great layout and I found it a challenging layout.

Don’t bother until…
a) we have a number of weeks of dry weather as they course is appallingly wet. A majority of bunkers were water hazards.
b) The course gets back to its original standard. Not sure how this will happen as talked to a guy in the pro shop who said they get 200 through a day and there are only 9 groundsman working.

Plenty of better deals for that price on the Coast. Wait another year and then see what it is like.

A little disappointing… Thought to try the re-opening special & it was far from the "resort" experience one would have hoped! The greens & fairways are sound however venture off them & you’re struggling to even find your ball at times as the rough is "rough"!

In defence of the course, the Sth East has copped so much rain & can assume green staff have been limited in course maintenance. The course regardless still needs plenty of work & to be frank – calling it a ’goat track’ at present wouldn’t be rude!

Having paid $49.50 – would have rather played Emerald Lakes being the same cost or have walked across the road, paid more & played Lakelands!

Played yesterday (Wed 8th Dec 2010) and the course was very wet, as were most courses on the Gold Coast. Palm Meadows has just reopened after closing on the 1st August 2010 so the grass on the fairways is still longer than usual, the greens are adequate but will need spiking to get rid of the mildew? fungus? starting to show in patches. The rough was very rough with the grass still too long and very wet in most places. If they can get a few dry days and get the mowers out the course should come good, I would like to play it again when it is not so wet and the grass has been cut. The layout is interesting and not very long so it would be an enjoyable, not overly difficult, course once it is back in shape. The staff were great and the bistro served a mean egg and bacon roll.

Played on Sat in driving rain for the front nine, then sunshine for the second nine. Even stopped under the bridge after the third hole to escape the rain. The greens held so much water that many putts required a two stoke penalty but it was all part of the fun :)

At one stage we had the whole course to ourselves, except for the drinks cart and the ducks.

A beautiful course in great condition (played 29/4/10).

Extremely challenging from the championship tees, as you’d expect. Difficulty hardly diminished from the social tees

Wayward tee shots aren’t punished as much as other local courses with relatively wide fairways in the landing zone. Second/third shots aren’t as forgiving with narrowing fairways and (in)conveniently placed water.

Enjoyed the day.

Played this course for the 1st time. We were surprised how quiet it was which meant we could take our time and enjoy the 9 holes we had booked and this was 1.30pm on a saturday. As bit of a novice I often find some courses slightly too long. Palm Meadows was reasonably forgiving in length for us novices, but the bunkers and water made it quite challenging and unforgiving if wayward with any shots.

I will definitely be back to play again.

But well placed fairway and green bunkers will keep you thinking. The staff are exceptional very friendly. I love the lay out of this course and for the price $65 special inc buggy. Favourie hole is the 18th long par 5 around water into the wind very very tuff I cried a little at the end very very tuff hole. Will play this course any day. Would save my money and play this course over lakelands

without doubt the best course i have played on the coast challenging enough if you want to take it on but easy enough for a beginner challenge, all really well laid out & maintained,we’re all looking forward to another round soon the staff also to be commended on & off the course for their etiquette.

Great Course. Emerald Lakes was under water but this course was solid/ fairways and greens etc. Fantastic play if you like driving a cart 6-7klm. Some great holes. Play your clubs longer than what the distances say. I pared the 9th & 18th, but 1 to 3 over on the rest. Great nick and well worth the $65 at 1pm in the arvo

PROS

  • Easy course to navigate, clear signage on holes
  • Good drainage, playable after recent wet weather
  • Great mix of holes

Cons

  • Need either a drivable par 4 or a short par 3.

Nice resort course layout that plays fairly easy with wide fairways and not a great deal of length.
Course is not as lush as other coast resort courses and for the money ( we paid $75 ) i would rather play robina woods or royal pines.

Greens were worn and dead grass every hole, ant hills in fairways and the rough is not so good quality grass, just the natural grass you get in your local parks.

Played on 9/2 a day after large rains, course stands up to the water well, obviously bunkers washed out and unplayable however apart from that course in very good condition. Staff happy and helpful, great place, plays fairly easy with big big greens and generous fairways. (Sort of course I like because if you loose your ball its because its in the water not in the rough or in the trees etc)

I’ve played Palm Meadows dozens of times but not in the past 15 years. I’d heard a few stories of it’s ups and downs but was assured it was in acceptable condition. I wouldn’t say that I had a bad experience but it was disappointing. Lakelands is far more pleasing to the eye.

Played this course today, green true and fast but un-repaired plug hole but this was not the staff fault as more so errant golfers, fairways in good condition due to the rains, very firendly staff form the club house to the drinkd lady, all very helpful. Very Much a risk reward course and the 18th what can I say, awesome. Will be back

I Still think this course is great, sure maybe the conditon is not 100% as good as it used to be but its pretty close.

Greens are great at the moment, very true, fast but fair.

Fairways are as good as always its really just the tee boxes that need a touch more attention.

The rain has helped this course a lot and anyone how plays it will see why its a great place to play golf.

the drink cart should carry more than 2 cans of spirits and come around alot more it was 35 degrees.

Played 29th Nov, 09. Nice condition but the greens were very slow. A realtively easy course, other than greens placed at a 70 degree angle from the fairway on some holes requiring a good approach.

Didn’t see the drinks cart at all on the front 9, and it was crazy hot. V.disappointing! However, when the girl didn’t come around, she was lovely.
Apparently, the course was full, but we only saw two other groups and didn’t have to wait once. This was great on a Sunday morning.

We had a really enjoyable all round day. The course – despite the dry weather was in excellent condition and the greens particularly were very true and fair. From our arrival all of the staff could not have been friendlier which only added to the experience. We will definitely be going back.

Played this course recently and must say it is a challenging course, but seems to be fair. The greens are very tricky, and my putting statistics were woeful, but tee to green it is reasonably wide open with water and sand there to greet wayward shots. It has 4 par 5’s and 4 par 3’s so it is a great mix of holes with 3 doglegs right, and 2 doglegs left.

The staff were friendly and the refreshment came around frequently. The only issue I have with the course is that its conditioning was below average. The fairways had many brown patches and this may be due to a lack of rain, but we did see sprinklers on at some holes. The course is good, but lacks the wow factor of course nearby such as Lakelands, Glades, etc.

Would play there again, but for a bargain price, which does show up sometimes on teetimes.

PROS

  • Very Friendly Staff
  • Challenging mix of holes
  • Tricky Greens

Cons

  • Conditioning below average
  • Lacks wow factor of nearby courses

This was once the leading coarse on the coast, now it lacks maintenance on fairways(very unevan) and greens (weedy). It is not up to the standard of others on the coast, which is a shame as it has one of the best holes the 18th off any place

The staff here were considerate and helpful from the get go. We had a steward come round chat to us help and even lend us a few balls when we had some bother. Fantastic course and great fun.

It is a fantastic saving online. The greens are huge and are challenging but run real smooth in comparison to some other big name courses. The drinks trolley came round quite frequently and didnt suggest how much should be drunk when we were having such a good day.

I will be back for sure. Thanks for being so accommodating even to the novice golfer such as myself.

294. swachanoc | Rated | 14 Sep 2009 | Add A Review

Course was in reasonable condition. Many unfilled divots on fairways, but this is the fault of the golfers, not the course.

Greens were softer and slower than I expected having played other Gold Coast courses where the greens are very fast. Staff friendly and well organised.

Carts do not have GPS so have to rely on fairway markers and colour of flags for position. Not of great importance as I can’t hit my clubs to within a metre or so but the gps does give a picture of the hole if you haven’t played there before.

Our round took just over four hours as the group in front were slow (and seemed to need lots of refreshment each time the drinks cart came around).

Last complaint, could seem to be able to drive the buggy back to the car to drop off the clubs before returning for a drink. Odd to have to carry your bag the distance to the car (could just be we couldn’t see where you could drive the buggy to get to the carpark).

Overall – good value with some nice holes. Would play again.

Played here on the 15th Aug and had a wonderful day. From the staff to the course everything was great. We let another 2 ball play through on 5th and from then on it felt like we had the course to ourselves. Wendy on the drink cart was friendly and seemed to actually enjoy her job which is rare these days.

We had never played the course it was nice to find a gold course that doesn’t punish the great shot due to lack on course knowledge. I hate popping over the rise after a great drive to find water or a hazard that was obscured from the tee on not clearly marking on the tee map..

A great course and a great golfing experience – birdie on the last did help. The bunkers were a little hard and full on seeds/nuts. For the price I would rate this course as enjoyable as The Glades

As it turnout the course was very wet unplayable so we decided to book for another time she told us we only had a week to use our voucher which was not convenient to us as we had other arrangement’s the following weekend she told us it was too bad not her problem. Course is 1st class and day would have been so much better if there had been a course marshall. There was 2 groups of three Japanese players that held everybody up. They waited for each other at most tees before the 1st group hit off. At one stage (a par 3) there were 4 groups waiting to hit off. The round for the 2 of us took nearly 5 hours. The 2 groups of three in front of us ended up playing together(they were mates on a golfing trip)and they were still held up by the Japanese players. Course was OK but nothing to write home about. Would not say that it is a must play course on the Gold Coast.

It is a great course. I played there for my birthday and thus availability to drinks was a priority. The drinks cart staff ensured we were well covered in this area. Good to see an esky attached with the cart with ice already packed. The Greens were very tricky due to some awkward pin placements which made it very interesting putting. There was no rushing around the course which was good. Weather was perfect. The 18th hole is unreal and managed to get the better of me. But that is okay.

Really liked it! As the description says, from the first hole it challenges you until the last par 5 18th hole which is a masterpiece, definitely the best hole I have ever played (I gave it half a star more just for this hole). Staff were incredibly corteous and friendly. We must have seen the drink cart at least 6 or 7 times.
Fairwasy were absolutely immaculate, spongy and perfect.
Sadly they were repairing the greens but, because of that, they gave me an extra 50% off the already discounted guest fee.
I’ll come back to play here.

Palm Meadows is in very, very poor condition. The greens are poor, there is little or no water in the ball cleaners, and the fairways are deteriorating rapidly. Compared to 9 months ago there is an obvious shortage of ground staff and greeting staff. Once one of my favorite courses here, it now ranks behind Robina Woods, Royal Pines, Lakelands and others on the Gold Coast.

Palm meadows is a great course and fair for players of varying abilities. It has something for everyone. I played the course over the Christmas and New Year period during which the course had received a fair bit of rain which it coped with quite well. Not all courses drain well in Qld and they can tend to be soggy underfoot but Palm Meadows coped quite well. Service was top notch. The only slight downer for me was the number of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens. This is a pet hate of mine as it illustrates a lack of common courtesy of some golfers toward their fellow golfers. To me it is outside the spirit of golf to not repair your pitch marks.

Contrast this review with my other one on the Twin Waters course! Palm Meadows provided our four with a golfing service experience which we are all relaying to anyone who will listen. from the time we called to book a tee time the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They even pre-booked breakfast for us in the restaurant for 7.00am and we arrived there they knew we were coming! Palm Meadows hosted the first Aussie Social Golf Clubs Championship in early September and all I really have to say is WOW!

The $590 tournament fee was awesome value which included 5 rounds of golf, cart, 2 functions (including all the grog a camel can drink!), a gift pack that actually had some groovy stuff in it for a change! I bought my girlfriend along and we stayed at the Radisson Resort for $319 bucks each and that included a hot brekky all 5 days so she was stoked to not have to cook and lay by the pool all week while I went off with my mates from the event to play at this famous Aussie golf course. We both made a stack of new mates, were treated like royalty by the staff and will definately be back at this top course next year. I can't recommend the event enough!!!

I fully echo the thoughts of Cazandpaul.

There are also a couple of other gems on the layout:

The Par 5 9th is another good example of chewing off as much water as you dare. The water nips in on both sides of the approach and the elevated green is always a trick to come up short.

11th per 3 is a V Good hole.

That $45 rate with cart is by far the best value on the Gold Coast.

341. cazandpaul | Rated | 17 Sep 2002 | Add A Review

Took the chance of a standby game ($45 before 7-30am) and was pleasantly surprised by the service and standard of the course.

This not a place where you automatically reach for driver and blast away as the water is strategically placed to gobble any slightly off line shot.

I believe the two feature holes to be:

1st 353m Par 4

Tee shot must be left of a huge bamboo clunp (remember The Shark) but right of the water - an intimidating opening tee shot.

18th 523m Par 5

How much of the huge lake do you take on with your drive generally into the prevailing wind? Once on the fairway you have to cross water again before reaching the green - bring your best game.

Enjoyed the game, the refreshment cart had cold beer and lunch afterwards on the terrace overlooking the course was very pleasant.

Palm Meadows might get a bit overlooked these days as the newer courses such as Lakelands and The Glades have come on line but it's maturity has it up there in comparison.
