Palm Meadows Golf Club

Gold Coast, QLD | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.0) | Add A Review

Palm Meadows is a course of such an excellent standard as to allow the staging of the Palm Meadows Cup – a tournament recognised by many as being years ahead of its time, and until recently the richest tournament held in Australia.

Designed by leading Australian golfer Graham Marsh, Palm Meadows was one of the first championship courses on the Gold Coast. Palm Meadows emerged from 350 hectares of marshland, just a few kilometres west of Surfers Paradise. A par 72 measuring 6319 metres off the championship tees with water coming into play on 14 of the holes, along with 82 sand bunkers.

An increasing number of returning international players are experiencing the challenges that Palm Meadows presents. The first hole is regarded by many as one of the worlds most challenging opening holes. With water running the entire length of the hole on the left and the world famous ‘bamboo Curtain’ on the right, golfers must have their ‘game’ from the first shot of the day.

The signature hole at Palm Meadows is the world famous 18th hole. Measuring 523 metres from the championship tees, the player has the opportunity to chance their arm as to how much of the dogleg right they want to cut off.

Palms Meadows is a completely public course and as such there are no tee times reserved for members. Golfers are able to enjoy the facilities at anytime, however bookings are advisable to avoid disappointment.

Have been to palm meadows many times too play and have had great service with outstanding customer service.this time took my husband to have a game and was discussed with the service from the woman behind the counter she was not help full at all. I asked the woman how wet was the course she replied to me very wet didn’t you here the rain last night. As it turnout the course was very wet unplayable so we decided to book for another time she told us we only had a week to use our voucher which was not convenient to us as we had other arrangement’s the following weekend she told us it was too bad not her problem. Wont be playing at this course again.this dose not encourage anyone to go back if anything tell all you friends not to go there and receive the same treatment or to lose out on your money.

My group of 8 played June 10th and were very impressed with the course, staff and facilities. The course was in excellent condition in spite of all the rain over the last few weeks.

The staff were more than friendly. The only problem was that the greens were being sanded as we played and we were not informed when the booking was made and no offer of reduced green fees for the disturbance. We were a little disappointed with this.

Played Palm Meadows yesterday and would have to say it is one of my best overall golf experiences. Course was in perfect knick with the greens being very receptive and rolling true and fast. The staff are very friendly and helpful by far the best oncourse staff going around.

Will defintely be back, maybe even next weekend!

Played on 6 June which was a fantastic day for golf. The staff were great and saw the drinks cart plenty of times. Some areas were still a bit wet from the floods a week or so ago.
The 18 is a pearler and cost me a heap of balls. Its a great challenge with lots of water and a variety of bunkers. The 1st is also a great hole.

Played on my own on a Monday public holiday. All staff were terrific. The course marshall made the day work brilliantly by moving me through slow groups. Got around all 18 holes in less than 3 hours. Course was in really good condition and worked well for all grades. Lipped out for par the 18th!

Course is 1st class and day would have been so much better if there had been a course marshall. There was 2 groups of three Japanese players that held everybody up. They waited for each other at most tees before the 1st group hit off. At one stage (a par 3) there were 4 groups waiting to hit off. The round for the 2 of us took nearly 5 hours. The 2 groups of three in front of us ended up playing together(they were mates on a golfing trip)and they were still held up by the Japanese players. Course was OK but nothing to write home about. Would not say that it is a must play course on the Gold Coast.

A great course and terrific day’s golfing. We played on Mother’s Day and the course was almost empty – so next Mother’s Day, we’ll be back !!!

It is a great course. I played there for my birthday and thus availability to drinks was a priority. The drinks cart staff ensured we were well covered in this area. Good to see an esky attached with the cart with ice already packed. The Greens were very tricky due to some awkward pin placements which made it very interesting putting. There was no rushing around the course which was good. Weather was perfect. The 18th hole is unreal and managed to get the better of me. But that is okay.

Course is fantastic. However when we turned up the Pro-shop had no record of our booking with I-seek. fortunately still managed to get a tee off time.

Course was in great condition after the rain, greens were super very good to putt on and held good shots as well. The pace of play was excellent and the drinks girl ( wendy ) was a great ambassador for the course. Helps if you play well also

Enjoyed the course – for someone with limited experience had plenty of challenges without being too hard. Friendly staff.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Palm Meadows and would definitely go there again. Considering the amount of rain in recent times the course was in excellent condition and we thought the overall package was extremely good value. Every staff member we came in contact with before and during our round were very courteous and helpful.

Staff good & courteous. Course interesting & difficult (for a 15 handicap). Greens complex & not easy to read.
There was heavy rain the previous day so the bunkers were in poor shape. Grass on greens not as good as i expected. Good value at $75, would not be at $115.
The hire clubs $45 were unimpressive

Played 5th March 2009.
Really liked it! As the description says, from the first hole it challenges you until the last par 5 18th hole which is a masterpiece, definitely the best hole I have ever played (I gave it half a star more just for this hole). Staff were incredibly corteous and friendly. We must have seen the drink cart at least 6 or 7 times.
Fairwasy were absolutely immaculate, spongy and perfect.
Sadly they were repairing the greens but, because of that, they gave me an extra 50% off the already discounted guest fee.
I’ll come back to play here.

Enjoyed playing yesterday. The highlight of the course is the friendly staff who treat your everywhere with a friendly smile. The course was in good conditions despite the heavy rains in recent days.

Due to the heavy rain on the previous day, all the bunders were GUR, which made us a little disappointed.

Very enjoyable. The course is challenging and good shots are rewarded whilst poor shots can be punished. The course was generally in quite good condition although not quite as good a condition as Hope Island which I played a couple of days before. I would go back and play again if the opportunity arose.

We played the course on what turned out to be a breezy morning with the course condition somewhat improved from our last game there, staff were good with Robyn in the pro shop-bookings area a standout.Still a challenging course and a tight contest among our four ball group,we will return for another game in the near future.

Excellent course that is very challenging for all levels of play. It was quite windy the day I played and hence was very challenging with water featuring on 14 of the 18 holes. Overall palm meadows is a great course and I highly recommend giving it a go.

Palm Meadows is in very, very poor condition. The greens are poor, there is little or no water in the ball cleaners, and the fairways are deteriorating rapidly. Compared to 9 months ago there is an obvious shortage of ground staff and greeting staff. Once one of my favorite courses here, it now ranks behind Robina Woods, Royal Pines, Lakelands and others on the Gold Coast.

Palm meadows is a great course and fair for players of varying abilities. It has something for everyone. I played the course over the Christmas and New Year period during which the course had received a fair bit of rain which it coped with quite well. Not all courses drain well in Qld and they can tend to be soggy underfoot but Palm Meadows coped quite well. Service was top notch. The only slight downer for me was the number of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens. This is a pet hate of mine as it illustrates a lack of common courtesy of some golfers toward their fellow golfers. To me it is outside the spirit of golf to not repair your pitch marks.

Very nice course: long, wide, scenic, rough is not too severe, water not excessive, unlike some other Gold Coast courses.

Contrast this review with my other one on the Twin Waters course! Palm Meadows provided our four with a golfing service experience which we are all relaying to anyone who will listen. from the time we called to book a tee time the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They even pre-booked breakfast for us in the restaurant for 7.00am and we arrived there they knew we were coming! The helpfulness shown by everyone meant that the round was very enjoyable, despite much of the golf we played.

Thanks for making us so welcome at your course.

A typical good resort course. Not to hard, but not easy either. Will appeal to golfers of all levels. I thought the condition was a little poor for what I expected. Still good though. Worth a game.

Palm Meadows hosted the first Aussie Social Golf Clubs Championship in early September and all I really have to say is WOW!

The $590 tournament fee was awesome value which included 5 rounds of golf, cart, 2 functions (including all the grog a camel can drink!), a gift pack that actually had some groovy stuff in it for a change! I bought my girlfriend along and we stayed at the Radisson Resort for $319 bucks each and that included a hot brekky all 5 days so she was stoked to not have to cook and lay by the pool all week while I went off with my mates from the event to play at this famous Aussie golf course. We both made a stack of new mates, were treated like royalty by the staff and will definately be back at this top course next year. I can't recommend the event enough!!!

I fully echo the thoughts of Cazandpaul.

There are also a couple of other gems on the layout:

The Par 5 9th is another good example of chewing off as much water as you dare. The water nips in on both sides of the approach and the elevated green is always a trick to come up short.

11th per 3 is a V Good hole.

That $45 rate with cart is by far the best value on the Gold Coast.

Took the chance of a standby game ($45 before 7-30am) and was pleasantly surprised by the service and standard of the course.

This not a place where you automatically reach for driver and blast away as the water is strategically placed to gobble any slightly off line shot.

I believe the two feature holes to be:

1st 353m Par 4

Tee shot must be left of a huge bamboo clunp (remember The Shark) but right of the water - an intimidating opening tee shot.

18th 523m Par 5

How much of the huge lake do you take on with your drive generally into the prevailing wind? Once on the fairway you have to cross water again before reaching the green - bring your best game.

Enjoyed the game, the refreshment cart had cold beer and lunch afterwards on the terrace overlooking the course was very pleasant.

Palm Meadows might get a bit overlooked these days as the newer courses such as Lakelands and The Glades have come on line but it's maturity has it up there in comparison.
