I played the course over 15 years ago and was a good challenge then.I just had to comment on birdie84’s comments re penogolfer and mark bardens reviews they were done in 2005 and 2002 courses do change just thought you were a bit personal

By any chance do PenoGolfer and Mark Barden work for Penrith Golf Club? I played the course last month with my sister and Aunt, and thought that perhaps the wraps these two men gave Penrith were slightly biased… The course is good but I’m not sure that I would say it was the best in the area, and the staf in the club house were rude. The length was a good walk, but where was the excitement??

Penrith is a long and challenging course for the first timer. If you thought you were a good golfer on your sub 68 local course, think again.
You need to stick to a your own game if you are not a long hitter . You can remain competitive If you stay out of trouble.Don’t try to keep up with big boys you will be shooting some high numbers.
The green remind me of NSW they are quick and true. The hazards really make you think off the tee.
This course makes you want to come back and accept the challenge again.
Oh .. if you play with a member called Oliver, make sure he gives you a least 14 strokes.

I have been playing this course a lot over the last two months and have enjoyed almost every minute of it.
The fairways are the main thing ha impresses, They are flat couch and usually in terrific condition.
The greens have had a rough time of late, They were clearly diseased when i first played here in december but are much better now. They are very slow and quite flat. Theres no evil breaks to be found.
Friendly easy going staff and members and great food too.
Also the course brings you back to the pro shop twice during your round which can be handy.
Highly recommended

I find the course overated. Played it the other day...and yes it is long but I find it unimaginative and not very attractive. As far as difficulty the fairwars are long and wide and do not require that much accuracy. I prefer Dunhevead and Glenmore

We played out here on the weekend with our social club. This is a course that we generally play twice a year. I agree with another reviewer in saying that it isn't the best course west of Sydney, but is one of the best. It is always in good condition and the round is always enjoyable.
The best holes for mine are the:-
* 6th (par 5 with water carry on 2nd shot)
* 8th (par 4 with OOB left and water right of green)
* 9th (long uphill par 4)
* 16th (par 4 with water left and bunkers around the green)
and
* 18th (par 4 with OOB left and a massive bunker short right of
the green).
You don't necessarily need to be massive off the tee, just accurate. It is a pretty flat course, but quite long. I think that most people will enjoy playing a game here and I encourage everyone to play there at least once.

Definately best in the NGA region... 16th,17th,18th holes are superb while the 7th is a pathetic par 3. offers great view of mountains... very long course but if you are hitting them well you will post a good score.. member there since 2003 and have found it a challenge every time..

Penrith is a course that requires accuracy off the tee as well as with your approach shots. The greens are fairly small, so shoot for the middle of the green & you won't have too long a putt.
The greens on most of the tougher holes (9th, 12th, 13th) are only bunkered on one side so you have a bail out spot if needed.
There is plenty of water & much of the course is low lying so it gets pretty soggy after rain. On top of that, it is a relatively unattractive course as far as beautiful views, but if that doesn't worry you then it's a solid course.
I can't agree that it's the premier course in the west of Sydney, (with Mac. Links, Camden Lakeside, Cabramatta, Liverpool, Camden Valley, Mac. Grange, Castle Hills, Dunheved, Windsor, Riverside Oaks, Cumberland & Bankstown it would probably miss out on the top 10) but it is good value for money.

Penrith is without doubt the premier golf course in Sydney's West. At 6,368m it is also one of the longest in the State.
With great fairways and superb greens this course measures up as a good examination of your skills.
The par 5 1st (523m) requires a well positioned drive to avoid the large trees on the right and the smaller but denser trees that line the left fairway. The green is protected by bunkers on either side with water coming into play if you miss the green.
The par 5 6th is also a green reachable in 2 for the longer hitters however you will need maximum distance off the elevated tee and a brave 2nd shot over the water hazard to achieve this.
The most difficult hole is the par 4 9th, an uphill 423m leading to a long, narrow green.
The par 4 14th although short at 297m requires an accurate drive to avoid the bunkering along the left hand side of the fairway. Anything right is blocked by trees or the out of bounds fence may also be a problem.
The last 3 holes can make or break your score with the dogleg par 4 16th being the hardest but the out of bounds fence comes into calculations on both the par5 17th and par 4 18th.
Penrith is definetely a must play course.
You will enjoy.

Played here probably 40 times over 15 years and in general is it one of the picks of the local area.
There’s a good selection of longer holes so the driver will get a good workout. If anything the lay of the land means that the hole and in particular green framing isn’t as strong as it could be.
Condition can be up and down though when on the greens are fantastic (quick and true) – most recent game saw the course in average condition throughout despite plenty of rain.
