The course was OK. For the price 2 and a cart for $36 you can not really complain, yes greens could be a little better and fairways were a little dry, but all in all thought it was ok. The issue I have had is that they don’t have any clues of the iseek voucher. We were ok to play as fairly quiet.

I have never seen so much frost on a golf course. It was freezing cold literally at -1 deg C the day we played. I believe the course should be closed. But it was something different. Most of us enjoyed it anyway.

as i read through the reviews of penrith golf club i find these reviews quiet questionable.. points that were brought up saying that the course is Quote "in the worst condition seen in a long time" or the numrous quotes that refer it to as "CRAP" "poor staff" etc.. from intense studying this is a course under financial stress and tho it may not be augusta it is sure a great course for what can be asked given or commanded… i suggest taking a good hard look at some other golf courses in the area and then compare at wich are better off… not high noting penrith it self but if you think youre playing on a QUOTE "goat track" then fork out the extra $200 or so dollars per round get on your knees and beg to play royal sydney…. as for the greenstaff ive never encountered such a problem if anything they were kind but im sure the management staff would be proper and very precise should the issue arrise

for the small amount we pay to play courses in this district (and im not talking just about penrith) im one that feels appreciative to what is offered..

HAPPY GOLF =)

To the people who call Penrith "best in the west" i highly recommend that u have a serious look at not only your selves but the course in general as it is in the worst condition i have seen it in a long time. It use to be immaculate a few years back but the current greens staff have let it go. Do your selves a favour and head to one of the other courses in the area, as currently penrith isn’t worth it.

Note: reading other reviews about the greens staff laughing at players after hitting bad shots is disgusting and i hope the staff were spoken to and the issue is resolved.

In response to Riffgolf -

thank you for your apology, but i can not stop thinking about all the other golfers this has happened to. I hope the appropriate action has been taken against the staff at fault as no golfer deserves to be laughed at when on the golf course. I will be returning to Penrith in the near future as my social golf club is due to play there soon. i just hope things have improved.

As I send a mail yesterday, there was not booking for my group at all.
You could check with Penrith Golf what problems were there.
I had to arrange for another golf club.
Please refund fully immediatley, otherwise I’ll put this matter on fair trading.
Regards,

To the people that have unfortunately had to experience the ground staff being disrespectful and unprofessional, we offer a sincere apology.

The ground staff will be approached over this issue and warned that if it happens again, they can look for a new job somewhere else.

I can only hope that you do return one day (soon) for another round.

BTW, the golf course is up for some major improvements in the next 12-18 months. We hope to see you again soon.

pieater i couldnt agree with you more however i had the same thing happen to myself with the greens staff. a little over a month ago i was plaing there one fine morning teeing off the 5 hole which backs onto to the greenkeepers shed. after hitting my worst drive of the day and cold topping the ball into the water off the tee i turned around to see 2 greens staff laughing and pointing at me. In my mind this was very unprofessional of them and i wouldnt expect this from my 5 year nephew. All in all great course immature staff.

Fairways are the best ive played on in a long time, greens leave a little to be desired, overall loved the layout of the course.
I must say however i will not return to this course, i played with a colleage of mine about 1 month ago. Who in his own words is no world beater on the golf course.
We were mid way through our round when we were on a par 3 when my mate who septic tanked (shanked) his tee shot looked up to see 2 course staff sat in a near by bunker laughing at him. Not what you expect when your playing a course thats labelled best in the west.
Loved the course, just not the course staff.

Played the course today with my son, what a waste of my time, the course is "CRAP" with a capitol "C". The fairways were CRAP, the greens were "CRAP", the tee boxes were "CRAP". Don’y waste your time playing here, the course is headed for the gurgler……

Played on 27th Dec 2010. Need more care on the course. It is like a cheap public course compare with penrith golf course in 5~6years ago.

Good course that has good fairways and is long enough to be a real test. The course is good value for money. Its a good course to play if you want a challenge. The pro is a good bloke and is very happy to lend out demos.
The greens are poorly maintained because of the amount of pitch marks. About 65% of bunkers have been improved with new floury smooth sand. The fairways are in good shape but you can see unfilled divots regularly.
The course has a pleasant setting with many trees and a lot of water. The Blue Mountains backdrop they talk about is a bit dull, with simply a couple of views of the first foothill. I dont think its the best of the west courses, there are other courses that have more personality. Overall 6/10

penrith Golf course is ok but to claim it is the best in the west is a bit rich. I think they have the pricing about right as it is not a rip-off like a lot of other clubs. Played in a recent comp there and whilst the fairways were good the greens were the opposite. The old pitch marks made for very bumpy surfaces.A lack of sand in most bunkers did nothing to enhance this course rating .The course could be a lot prettier with some extensive beautification around tee boxes and the planting of some classy tree varieties. Except for the Pro[nice guy] the rest of the staff was rude.

All in the club is in good condition. Having played it as a kid it was good to come back. With three Par 5’s over 500m they didn’t seem as long as I remembered. The fairways were great & the rough not too deep. Green need a little TLC but one thing that need major work is the bunkers. Most that I saw & the few I ended up in were just hard dust & dirt bowls not sand traps. There was one that I putted out of because the ground was so rock hard that there was no way to play a normal bunker shot.

Golf course is exception value for money considering the limited money the Club has to spend and operating with 6 green keepers.

Pure couch fairways (the only turf to play on) can go dormant and brown in appearance during winter, however are already green again. $985 for full membership and $200 of that goes onto your membership card for use at the bar!!!!!

Clubhouse staff (Bar Staff) are the best anywhere…most of them know the regular members drinks and have them poured before you get to the bar.

Greens are a bit old but Club has plans in place to rejuvenate the greens and bunkers. The Club has been on a 3 year program eradicating Poa Annua grass from greens and they have been a little bumpy but are slick at the moment.

Played here with work last week. Found the course in a poor condition compared to other courses we play. Greens were like putting through a minefield due to the amount of unrepaired pitch marks (remember course ettiquite players). Fairways on close to half the holes in poor condition due to work and other half were waterlogged. I won’t be in a hurry to get back but they do a good package for corperate. $50 for bacon egg roll, carts, 18 holes and Steak lunch isn’t bad.

PROS

  • Corp package deals

Cons

  • Greens, fairways not in great condition

Played here probably 40 times over 15 years and in general is it one of the picks of the local area.

There’s a good selection of longer holes so the driver will get a good workout. If anything the lay of the land means that the hole and in particular green framing isn’t as strong as it could be.

Condition can be up and down though when on the greens are fantastic (quick and true) – most recent game saw the course in average condition throughout despite plenty of rain.

I played the course over 15 years ago and was a good challenge then.I just had to comment on birdie84’s comments re penogolfer and mark bardens reviews they were done in 2005 and 2002 courses do change just thought you were a bit personal

By any chance do PenoGolfer and Mark Barden work for Penrith Golf Club? I played the course last month with my sister and Aunt, and thought that perhaps the wraps these two men gave Penrith were slightly biased… The course is good but I’m not sure that I would say it was the best in the area, and the staf in the club house were rude. The length was a good walk, but where was the excitement??

Penrith is a long and challenging course for the first timer. If you thought you were a good golfer on your sub 68 local course, think again.

You need to stick to a your own game if you are not a long hitter . You can remain competitive If you stay out of trouble.Don’t try to keep up with big boys you will be shooting some high numbers.

The green remind me of NSW they are quick and true. The hazards really make you think off the tee.

This course makes you want to come back and accept the challenge again.

Oh .. if you play with a member called Oliver, make sure he gives you a least 14 strokes.

I have been playing this course a lot over the last two months and have enjoyed almost every minute of it.

The fairways are the main thing ha impresses, They are flat couch and usually in terrific condition.

The greens have had a rough time of late, They were clearly diseased when i first played here in december but are much better now. They are very slow and quite flat. Theres no evil breaks to be found.

Friendly easy going staff and members and great food too.

Also the course brings you back to the pro shop twice during your round which can be handy.

Highly recommended

I find the course overated. Played it the other day...and yes it is long but I find it unimaginative and not very attractive. As far as difficulty the fairwars are long and wide and do not require that much accuracy. I prefer Dunhevead and Glenmore

We played out here on the weekend with our social club. This is a course that we generally play twice a year. I agree with another reviewer in saying that it isn't the best course west of Sydney, but is one of the best. It is always in good condition and the round is always enjoyable.

The best holes for mine are the:-
* 6th (par 5 with water carry on 2nd shot)
* 8th (par 4 with OOB left and water right of green)
* 9th (long uphill par 4)
* 16th (par 4 with water left and bunkers around the green) and
* 18th (par 4 with OOB left and a massive bunker short right of the green).

You don't necessarily need to be massive off the tee, just accurate. It is a pretty flat course, but quite long. I think that most people will enjoy playing a game here and I encourage everyone to play there at least once.

Definately best in the NGA region... 16th,17th,18th holes are superb while the 7th is a pathetic par 3. offers great view of mountains... very long course but if you are hitting them well you will post a good score.. member there since 2003 and have found it a challenge every time..

If you're not long don't bover but a nice course.

27. joe | Rated | 28 Feb 2003 | Add A Review

Penrith is a course that requires accuracy off the tee as well as with your approach shots. The greens are fairly small, so shoot for the middle of the green & you won't have too long a putt.

The greens on most of the tougher holes (9th, 12th, 13th) are only bunkered on one side so you have a bail out spot if needed.

There is plenty of water & much of the course is low lying so it gets pretty soggy after rain. On top of that, it is a relatively unattractive course as far as beautiful views, but if that doesn't worry you then it's a solid course.

I can't agree that it's the premier course in the west of Sydney, (with Mac. Links, Camden Lakeside, Cabramatta, Liverpool, Camden Valley, Mac. Grange, Castle Hills, Dunheved, Windsor, Riverside Oaks, Cumberland & Bankstown it would probably miss out on the top 10) but it is good value for money.

Penrith is without doubt the premier golf course in Sydney's West. At 6,368m it is also one of the longest in the State.

With great fairways and superb greens this course measures up as a good examination of your skills.

The par 5 1st (523m) requires a well positioned drive to avoid the large trees on the right and the smaller but denser trees that line the left fairway. The green is protected by bunkers on either side with water coming into play if you miss the green.

The par 5 6th is also a green reachable in 2 for the longer hitters however you will need maximum distance off the elevated tee and a brave 2nd shot over the water hazard to achieve this.

The most difficult hole is the par 4 9th, an uphill 423m leading to a long, narrow green.

The par 4 14th although short at 297m requires an accurate drive to avoid the bunkering along the left hand side of the fairway. Anything right is blocked by trees or the out of bounds fence may also be a problem.

The last 3 holes can make or break your score with the dogleg par 4 16th being the hardest but the out of bounds fence comes into calculations on both the par5 17th and par 4 18th.

Penrith is definetely a must play course.

You will enjoy.
