played here on friday 21.8. and i can see why everyone is down on the course, but in saying this… i cant help but think how good this could will be once again once troon have put their stamp on the course,

the layout is strong, the only changed i see needed for this course is more care taken with fairways, and removal of kangaroos and kanga
shit, otherwise a great course, and would definately play again

Played here 2 weeks ago, 1st time for myself but played with 3 others that have played here over the years.
yes they all agreed that the course is not what it use to be back in the day and could do with some TLC in certain areas.

The course lay out is very nice and has alot of testing holes for all types of players.
Every green was unpredictable and needed a good eye when putting, yes there were divots on them, how ever its not difficult to patch a divot if you have created it?? which I dont think many players do.
After talking to a few locals the condition of the course is due to lack of funding from the new Nanshan Group, the staff do their best with what they have, the course is a long way out for most and not a popular attraction anymore.
Its common sense that if you have a business loosing money why would you keep plouging mega $s into it when players wont drive that far or then turn around and bag the crap out of it.

I had read the reviews on here prior to playing and if I had to agree with one negative it would be the kangaroo crap, yes there is lots of it.

Our day was very enjoyable, cart girls were around twice and even the marshall was out on the prowl, staff were friendly and the facility is great.

Yes a little pricey if you pay full fare how ever if you get the monthly speacial then its a decent rate.

look forward to playing there again.

Commented back in April 2010 how bad this course had become.Had the displeasure of playing here 2/7/11. I came back interested to see the improvements under the new owners.
WOW,this place has become a real dump, poor fairways (little grass but plenty of divots, mud and kangaroo crap),poor greens (slow, bumpy, patchy),bunkers (little sand, poorly drained), I didn’t think it was possible to go further backwards but this place has managed it.

Avoid if you don’t like wasting money (the one star I have given is generous iseek golf wouldn’t allow lower score).

Nice course but a little underwhelmed by riverside oaks. It’s quite long and well bunkered but i found the main challenge to be in the huge number of lakes. The Back nine there was water on every hole and often more than one body of water. It was really punishing for the inaccurate golfer, and presented a real challenge.
What disappointed me most were the conditions of the course. The fairways were poorly kept, and the grass inconsistent in type. The greens i found to be very slow, bumpy and rolling untrue.
However the course is set in a charming bush setting true to it’s surrounds. It is a nice course and worth a effort to play, however it is expensive.

Played at River Side Oaks on 31 Oct 2010. The course was in very good nick with good grass cover on the fairways and the green were very soft and receptive without being slow.

Agree with past comments that the course is not overly difficult. Particularly off the social tees this course is not enourmously long and the fairways are very generous but overall the course provides a pleasant days golf for all abilities.

played at Riverside Oaks late July 2010 recently with some business colleagues, course was in great nick for winter, greens were very quick, sunshine all day it is quite a view out their we were impressed, missed birdies didnt have a great effect? We have booked a tee time next week again, and paid $78 bucks. Oh Drinks cart girls are very friendly.

Three of us played a few weeks ago on a Saturday. Yes the $92 green fee is a little high but the quality of the course is a vast improvement on a few years ago. The course was busy and we thought it would take an age to play but we finished in about 4.5 hours which is not bad a for a Sat afternoon game on a Sydney course. The drinks cart girl was brilliant – we saw her about 5 times during the round. The the views from the patio during post-game drinks were fantastic and so was the service. A really enjoyable day – we will be back.

I recently played here for the first time in six months, on arrival we realised that the green fees has increased to a whopping $92 per person. I’m happy to pay that sort of money to play on a decent course but considering the first hole was completely out of play due to a diseased green the fee was not justified. Neither is the cheek of asking you to pay for range balls and neither is the 5 1/2 hours it took us to get round 18 holes. Come on guys if you are bothering to have marshalls on the course then get them to do their job. And if you are going to insist on charging nearly a hundred dollars a round then make sure your service and course are up to that standard. Until you do I wont be coming back.

I had read the reviews so was wary when playing this course yesterday after a 7 year gap. But i was pleasantly surprised.

Certainly a big question mark about the cost and the value (anyone played The Dunes???) but I still thought it was an excellent course and in remarkably good condition. The layout is excellent and i do like the bushland setting. There are some excellent par 3’s, some of the par 5’s are good but some of the 4’s are forgettable. Some tee boxes not in great nick, but generally the fairways were good and the greens are excellent.

I think it was well worth the game.

I posted a review on this course 1 year ago saying it had gone downhill and needed serious improvement.Sadly this place has not improved and if anything is worse than it was 1 year ago.
After playing here on 25th April I’ve decided enough is enough and won’t be renewing my membership.

I played here last week for the first time in several years after being interstate. I had a great day – greens rolled well, fairways were green and the staff were very friendly and attentive – adding that you get a cart for your round and I thought it was quite good value. Made better by the wonderful views from the restaurant while you enjoy a post round beer.

Riverside still has my vote

Absolutley dissapointed with riverside oakes. For $80 bucks it is the most overated course i have ever played. The bunkers are a joke the fairways are terrible patchy and with a lot weed in them. The greens are
shocking lots of pitch marks very bumpy. To make things worse the 1st hole was out of play and was not informed when we rang to make the booking. Would not recommend this course to anyone.

I’ll be resigning from Riverside Oaks this week. We had a 10 o’clock tee time (Saturday 28th February) but after the pro’s allowed a group of 11 to play, when a group of four had booked in, the game was already half an hour late at the start and it took five hours and ten minutes to finish because the Course Marshall didn’t take any action even though they had fallen two holes behind. Combine this with the drive to Cattai, a big fee and lightning fast greens, I’m not prepared to waste any more time on them.

Sorry Pat, good luck in the future.

Played there today and found this course very much beyond a disappointment. Fair enough, it has been very dry but this place seemed like a grass coloured desert. Very very dry. Fairways were very hard and the grass seemed dead. The greens were dry but very challenging and lightning fast. Overall at present i’d give the Famous Riverside oaks a 2/10. I’d rather play at a local course thats better kept.

The 4 star rating this place still has is a joke. 5 star prices for what has become a 2 star course.

I,ve been a member here since 2001. Its sad to say but this course has really gone downhill in the last 12 months. Bunkers are often out of play and the greens are too soft and mark easy. Hopefully this place will get its act together and get the course back to being worth $80-$85 a round.

Riverside Oaks is a great course for beginners (generous fairways & greens) and testing for intermediate & advanced players. Always found the course in great condition and the overall golfing experience (incl clubhouse & food) are worth it.

Only gripe is that it is a bit of hike to get to from Sydney South.

There are a few obvious qualities to Riverside Oaks that are appreciated immediately – a fantastic layout, great conditioning (especially the polished-marble-like greens) and a sense that you have the course to yourself… Strategically, the course’s toughest holes are the first 4, before options gradually open up until the back nine. The finish presents a number of holes where length is important, but there are opportunities to score if you drive well, and sink those damn 4-footers!

This course generally gets good reviews and rightfully so.It offers a good challenge with lovely scenery.

The clubhouse is a gem with great food and friendly staff. you get a first class golf experience without being made to feel uncomfortable by snooty members.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who can appreciate what really makes a course great , the variety of challenges that are on offer , some obvious some subtle.

The condition at the moment is very good.

Played here yesterday, course is in excellent condition considering the weather we are having.

Challenging course for all levels of players.

11 A you NEED to be on the green, left, bunker, right water, short water!

I was imppressed with this course, even though I played really badly! I can't wait for the new course to open mid 2007. A few things that let this course down, is the SLOW play. I played at bonnie doon last week and thought that was slow. It took a group of 2, almost 6 hours to play a round. Granted there was a few groups in front, but by 14, the group in front fell over a hole behind the group in front of them, and didn't offer to let us through, which I thought was rude.

I'll be back, but only midweek!

This place never lets you down. Its a great course which has got everything.Solid par 4s fair par 5s and you are always greeted by friendly kagaroos if you play early. The greens are massive on most holes so you need to have the flat stick going. Very friendly and efficient staff and great clubhouse. What more do you want

As good a course as anything in Sydney. Definitely A-grade: par 72, 6,300m, well-manicured fairways, very little chance of having to play off the wrong fairway, scenic settings.

Reasonably cheap too, as a home club. If you consider that the average A-grade club costs at least $6,000 to join and $2,000 a year, at $82 a weekend comp round and $70 a weekday round and no other costs, Riverside Oaks is fairly cheap.

Only drawback to RSO is the hike to get there.

The shame about Riverside Oaks is it's reliance upon green fee players for survival. It's a great example of why membership courses require significant upfront fees to maintain a quality golfing experience.

The layout is terrific -14 of the holes are true championship quality from the back tees - and the clubhouse is superb, meaning it's all set up to be a terrific golfing venue.

Alas I have been there too many times where non-handicapped golfers clearly don't know how to play golf efficiently are holding up play. The management needs green fee players and so has no check on golf knowledge or ability when taking the money, putting everyone in groups of four if requested, and only putting seven minutes between tee times. The result, especially if people are allowed to choose which tees they play off, is a six hour round. So for those who don't have the luxury of a morning tee time, you strongly risk not getting your round finished.

Added to this is the fairway divots (problem accentuated by having to walk back to your cart to get your sand) and plug marks on the greens, which sadly learner golfers do not pay attention to.

Which is all a great shame, for the finishing four holes are terrific, and the bar is a great one to look out at the course from. Food's good, too.

It's not a cheap day, but it's the best public course in northwest Sydney, so it's very popular.

My advice would be to try to play it on a weekday to avoid the six hour rounds, and you will enjoy it. If you play well tee to green you may think you'll score well, but the size of some of the greens (I've seen cricket grounds smaller than the first green!) will demand accurate irons and a good putting stroke.

Every time I've played at Riverside (socially and in singles and Holden Scramble comps) I've really enjoyed myself. The course is generally well presented although suffered a bit during the drought.

Quite a long course but as most holes aren't tight you can lay in with the driver and shorten them.

Only carts are allowed here so your green fees includes cart hire (fine with me!) The only problem with this is that you can only take the carts on the paths meaning sometimes you have a 100m walk to your ball only to discover it's in a divot and you need to go back for a different club!

The clubhouse is nicely presented with good views of the course.

The home of many championships in the past, Riverside Oaks seems to have fallen out of favour over the last 10 years. Even so, it's still a very pleasant course to play, no matter what your ability.

Always in reasonable condition, the course is set up with multiple tees, wide fairways & large greens to give lesser players a chance to enjoy themselves, while still giving better players a challenge.

After an opening par 5 to warm up, the 2nd is a tight (drive & approach) par 4. Make sure you miss the fairway bunker, otherwise you'll be in trouble.

The 5th is a lovely little, short par 4, uphill & bending to the left with a bunker in front of the green. The 9th is the best par 5 on the course. You need a good drive, avoiding the 2 fairway bunkers & then you need to make a choice. For the long hitters going for the green in 2, there is a bunker short left & a steep slope on the right to punish the wayward shot.

The rest of the par 5's are weak, being too wide & too short to cause any real trouble. The par 3's are quite weak as well with 3 of them being downhill, & none of them offering much of a challenge.

The four closing par 4's work together to form a solid finish to a pleasant day.
