I am a student junior member at RPGC. It is wonderful golf club, very social. The members are friendly! There are some long shots and some short shots. With a wonderful pro shop, driving range and practise facilities it is the perfect course for a social member.

I have an affection for courses that extract the most from a poor piece of land, and conversely dislike coursest that waste good ground. The location of RP is a shocker but they have done well. Not on the same planet as Royal Melbourne or Royal Adelaide, but it was not meant to be. Tight and testing with a prmeium on straight driving.

Also nice and relaxed for a Royal Club - pleasantly unusual.

Royal Perth is an interesting layout that is very fair in that it rewards good shotmaking but it does not punnish bad shots. The course usaually has one very thin line of trees between fairways so it you mishit a shot you will get away with it more times then less. The condition of the course is always supurb with the green very firm and fast which always makes up and downs hard.

The course is set up for scoring, there is very few long holes while there is many short holes.

I've been a member of RPGC for about 10 years, and have basically honed my golfing skills here whilst studying in Perth.

Whilst the course does not look like a long course on paper, it bites you in other ways. Driving up the Kwinana freeway, you noticed the golf course straight away, and you also notice that the course is very short from one side to the other.

The first hole is a straight away par 4 of about 350 metres, but it can be a daunting tee shot, especially if you're off an afternoon tee-off on a Saturday, as the teebox is in full view of the verandah - where the morning players are sitting down to lunch and the occassional drink - and will not be hesistant to pass on any remarks should your tee shot be less than average.

The first 8 holes (front nine) plays along the boundary of the course, and envelopes the back nine -9 to 18. Fairways are narrow, and you'll prob find yourself punching out balls back onto the fairway more often than not.

The greens are amongst the best I've played on in Perth. Quick but fair and will reward the good high irons shots.

It's the course where every club in your bag will be played, and you'll have to play them well. Bunkering is not too bad, but some well placed fairway bunkers will make it difficult to get to the green in regulation. Excellent course design.

I could get into it in more detail, but I wouldn't want to bore you with my bias opinion. Should you wish to know more about the course, email me at maupro@hotmail.com.

It's worth a play if possible.
