I enjoyed the course but it was sodden after lots of rain this meant play was very slow and that made it hard to get into a flow. It took us just over three hours to play nine holes and I pulled the pin before the end as it was taking far too long. If you consider value for money in hours on the course I got good value, otherwise…. The staff were helpful and friendly and the Cafe adjoinging the Pro Shop has good food and was excellent value. I had the lasagne and salad and it was $8.00 and a generous portion.

PROS

  • Nice but not spectacular course, good staff.

Cons

  • Too slow in the afternoon.

A totally great day’s golf. Good value for money, course was in superb condition considering how much rain we had in recent weeks. The staff were courteous and the drinks cart seemed to be around whenever we needed food or drinks. I came down from Noosa to watch the Womens PGA (especially our local girl Katherine Hull)in January so the opportunity to play on the holes used for the PGA was a bonus!!

The course is quite nice.

But management is ????

7 players in a group was playing. We have to wait and wait hole by hole.

Very nice course and v well maintained. Excellent and good value lunch too! Only hiccup was that when I went to book in they didn’t have a record of my booking…I gave them my printout of your email and all was well and they fitted us in at the right time..

Not as challenging as I had thought it would be but still a very good course. The only downfall for the day was the actual management of the "play". There were over 300 players our on the course and they allowed some groups to walk, which slowed up play immensely. They also allowed groups of "one" to tee off before and after us. We had been grouped with another 2 to play in a 4 however they didn’t turn up. They also allowed groups to walk the course – I would think with such a big field carts should be mandatory. We teed off at 1:12pm and didn’t get to finish 18 holes due to poor light.

Golf course was really good the condition was fantastic, we were booked to tee off at 8.32 and directed to play the green course first then the blue course second, during our first nine we were held up by the group infront (who also had a habit of leaving clubs on the greens) which meant a visit by the course marshall who was understanding of the problem, we were a group of four with two buggies and we were followed by a group of another rour who all had a buggy each making them alot quicker than us.

However there was no big problem as we only had two holes left to play on that nine. On the way to the second nine our group stopped and bought a hot dog from the sasage sizzle being conducted beside the starters hut.

When we arrived at the tenth tee we agreed to let the group behind go through as they were much quicker, by the time we finished our food they hadent shown so we started on our way, by the time we had played the twelth hole we recieved another visit from one of the course marshalls letting us know that in one hour and ten minutes there would be a shot gun start competition comencing and that if we wernt up to or playing the seventeenth we would have to leave the course.

We told him we were sent to this side and that nothing was said either when we first arrived or at the starters hut when we started and at half way, whilst he was sympathetic his answer was he did not make the bookings, this doesn’t help when you have paid 80 dollars to play.

On the up side whilst on the range we met Peter Senior and also saw him out playing. I guess all I am saying is that it would pay to check at the start if there is any thing you need to know that may affect your game.

Played Mon 11th April, course was in fantastic condition.Greens were some of the best ive played on. Thoroughly enjoyed this long but fair course.

A bit of wind really added to the challenge. A little disappointed to find as a RACQ member I could have saved 20 bucks on the iseek saving.

Still great value for $85, would definitely recommend.

We had two groups booked for a Saturday morning game, the arrival at the club was well handled by the staff, our clubs and equipment was quickly transfered to the carts and the course organiser was very informative. We found that the booking time was pushed well behind time due to a corporate day event so we had a very slow first nine. The course is very well maintained and the greens are amoungst the best I have ever played on and I have played on many courses around the world. All in all we where quite impressed with the whole day, I would recommend the course to those who like a solid challenge and true greens.

Royal Pines is fast becoming our favourite Gold Coast course – even over the stunning Glades. The greens are just the best. Lightning fast but true. Exactly what you expect (well, hope for anyway). It has all the usual suspects as well – ever present water, acres of bunkers and majestic old trees filled with magnets.

Best asset though is the chef in coffee shop. The baguette filled with avocado, caramelised onions, mushrooms and fried egg was scrumptious.

Played on Wednesday 15th March. Unfortunately there was torrential rain the day before so the course was waterlogged making the longer holes difficult without any run off the driver. We played a couple of other courses on the gold coast and found the greens at Royal Pines to be the best.

What can I say? I am a member at another course on the Gold Coast that has been left to become bush (Parkwood) and I play here now.
Absolutely perfect course! Love everything of it.
Lay-out is nice, wide fairways but water in play on several holes. Some long par 5s and the Wangara 9 hole course is even more picturesque than the Aroona or Binnowee courses on this side of the resort (which are stunning).
Staff very polite, friendly and professional. Marshall always present and ready to intervene when players are taking it extra slow.
Great clubhouse overlooking the practice green and a couple of holes.
Fairways perfect at the moment, sand bunkers a bit hard due to the heavy rain of past weeks, at least on the Aroona and Binnowee Courses.
I like the range as well, good practice facilities, even though I advise to save your money and not to go to the main pro as I found him hugely overrated for what he gives you in return.
Just a great course at a very affordable price now if you are a RACQ or RACV member.

We enjoyed playing the new nine and holes 1 to 9 of the original course. The only sour note was when a course marshall chipped us for slow play, as we were not playing slow, but still managed to get a hole behind the the groups of 2 and 3 golfers in front of us. I unfortunately gave the marshall an earful, as there had been a lot of rain the night before and we had to stay on the cart paths, which definitely led to slower play. We were all club golfers and playing within our handicaps, which ranged from 5 to 12. We actually only took 4 hours for the round, so I don’t class that as slow play.

The booking process was excellent, with payment, confirmation and bookings made through the one organisation and then just having to turn up, check in and play.

27. mark16510 | Rated | 05 Jan 2009 | Add A Review

Course was in excellent confition, greens a bit slow. The major issue was that although there were course marshalls around the course they did nothing to keep the group ahead of us on time – they were slow, made no attempt to speed up, and we had to constantly wait and hence so did the group behind us. Made the round less enjoyable and more memorable for the wrong reasons – we will not likely go back to that course in a hurry given the lack of control by marshalls to keep groups playing to time.

28. no06528 | Rated | 03 Jan 2009 | Add A Review

Played with all bunkers GUR. Made it a little easier, but still not a hard course. As others comment, wide fairways, bunkers are not a hazard for reasonably accurate players. Some VERY long Par 5’s. Enjoyable for $59, but for more dollars I would expect a greater challenge. A definite detraction was the use of dark blue and green flags, they were quite hard to see against the foliage late in the afternoon.

The course is great, we played Binawee 18, so the front nine is totally different to the back nine. It was like playing 2 different courses, the back nine reminded me a little of The Glades. Only negative was because the Gold Coast had heavy rain a lot of the bunkers were filled with water, they were GUR for the day. But it was annoying to loose a ball in a green-side bunker filled with very dirty water and not being able to retrieve it.

1st time at Royal Pines went there with three friends. Playes Wangarra (what ever). Front nine were of the standard you would expect, fairway were honest with green that would catch fire if the ran any quicker. Couldn’t see what the fuss was afetr the back nine, still rate Pacfic Harbour the best I palyed by far. Just to make sure this was a fair assessment I palyed at Pacofoc Harbour this morning (Christmas eve). Sorry Royal Pines there is nothing Royal about the gold. Fairways ofn the back nine were of the same standard as a local public course. Very disappointed in the course, fairways were rougher than my backyard and the sand traps had not seen maintenance since the last tour.

Played Tues, Dec 2. Front nine ((orange) was as expected given the nine is currently being groomed (tees and greens) but had held together well given the amount of rain in the weeks prior. The back nine (blue) was more like royal pines standard but alas we could not bear to hang around any longer to finish the 18. The day moved at a snails pace! We were over 4 hours through 13 holes and slowing! It was awful – this is 5.5hr plus round of golf in carts. Lack of good marshalling let down a normally excellent job by Royal Pines staff.

45. joshuah | Rated | 01 Dec 2008 | Add A Review

Two firsts – first time with iseekgolf.com and first time playing at Royal Pines. Both pleasurable, and I would have no hesitation in recommending either.

We had an early tee-time of around 6:30am – great weather. The course had held together really well considering the recent deluge.

Greens were maybe a touch slower than we were expecting, but quickened around the back 9. As did the pace of play.

Playing off the whites the par 3s were mostly around the 135m mark. The 5s weren’t really reachable in two for any of us, with the exception of the 9th (from memory).

Good mixture of holes. In a nutshell the front 9 we played was a tighter, more mature traditional layout, the back 9 was more open, and resort styled. Easily defined by the white fluffy sand around the back, and the grey grainy sand around the front.

Service was excellent. Great carts. Drinks cart often and pleasant.

Really enjoyable day – we’d do it again.

My father & I played the Aroona Course that hosts the ladies masters tornament and found the course to be in great condition and a good challenge. Have to agree with previous reviews in that there is a generous amount of fairway to play with and adjoining fairways if you are really wide – however it is still a challenge and good value if you can get on for the price we did – $60. Don’t know if I would pay the full “rack rate” of $120 with the other available options on the coast.

Played this morning on the Aroona Ladies Masters Combination. This is a fantastic resort course and easily equals the best courses I have played. While it’s not overly long, the hazards are very well placed and certainly require some thoughtful play. The course is in great condition with flawless fairways and very true greens, they are a pleasure to putt on. As others have said, the staff were amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful, the course marshals kept play moving steadily which saw us finish up in just over 4 hours. The inclusion of a course guide in the green fees tops it off. I will definitely be heading back sometime soon, especially with $60 ISG deals.

Played October 15 2008 Aroona Ladies Masters Combination. This is a fantastic resort course that any golfer of any skill level can enjoy. There had been a fair bit of rain around, but you wouldn’t have known it. The staff were excellent and couldn’t be more helpful. Loved the inclusion of a course guide in the green fees and even ice in a small esky on the cart (which was a lifesaver later on when it warmed up!). Greens were medium paced and very true, pleasure to putt on. Only mild criticism was some parts of the fairways that had had some rain were quite damp and it did affect your ability to strike the ball cleanly – but apart from that – outstanding golf and we would play there again in a heartbeat!

Played Royal Pines today [Aroona and Binnowee] and was pretty impressed. Fairways were in top notch and the greens in excellent condition.

Customer service was very good and course yardage booklet was included in the green fees [special angry mention to other courses where they make you buy the yardage book for $9.95!]

The Tee’s cafe was well stocked and reasonably priced, with a drinks cart doing the rounds. I think the new owners RACV are already making a positive impact.

Aroona front 9 was wide and forgiving but our favourite was the Benowwee 9! Plenty of clover bunkers and water hazards to keep even the straightest shooter thinking!

Overall, a top notch underrated course. No wonder you don’t hear many members raving on about it as they are all trying to keep it to themselves.

My group played the Blue 18 today at a special rate of $59 per person including buggy. The facilities and staff are excellent. The buggies have coolers (eksys) attached with ice too – nice touch. They also had drinks cart serving alcohol that was reasonably priced.

As far as the course was concerned, it’s challenging, particularly for the hacker whom plays once every 12 months (I fall in to this category). There is lots of sand, and lots of water (first blue 9). If your accurate with your strokes, you’re going to love it. If your lucky to hit 10 good straight shots in a round (me), its going to frustrate you.

Fairways where in good conditions. The sand bunkers where appualling. Not raked like concrete. Greens need some work due also.

We had a fantastic day at Royal pines. The fairways were in great order, the greens were perfect. Even with the rain we had last weekend it still allowed for great golf. Staff were excellent and professional. The booklet of the lay out and distances made life very easy particularly on the front 9 as none of us had played it before.

Played Lakelands 22/2/08 What a fantastic course would have to be some of the best greens I’ve ever played on even though my putter had a bad day.

Royal Pines, very nice indeed… I played on Friday the 12th January 2008 and the weather was wet to say the least, not too many people on the coarse, no surprise really. Torrential rain, wind, it had it all. The coarse however was better on the day, it beat the rain, sensational layout, tough but not over the top and the greens even with all the rain played true. Drainage on the coarse, excellent, staff excellent, buggies excellent, overall a great day… Look forward to playing there when it is dry… Thank you very much Royal Pines…

Played in August 2007. I found the course layout to be very enjoyable. The greens and fairways were in need of a hair cut, a bit fluffy. Even though the greens were long they still ran fairly well. I found the service here fantastic, I was running late so I called ahead to let them know and they moved my friend and I back a spot. From the course guide down to the gift shop and staff I found this course to be great. I will be back to play again, soon I hope.

Really liked this course. Plenty of challenges, without being too unkind. Nice lush green fairways. Large greens. Great course management with the round taking just over 4 hrs. Great experience and will be back.

Great facility!! The Ladies Masters course is open with large smooth greens. Still challenging enough for me (H’cap 12)but not too brutal. Staff were great….MUCH IMPROVED

Not a bad course at all.

Fairway was a little hard and dry but still playable.

Bunkers have nice soft sand

Green is very nice, not very fast.

Shocking sub standard service and that will be my only reason why I will never go back there again even if its free.

4/5 for the course

1/5 for service

Overall experience 2/5

wide fairways, big bunkers and huge greens. i was forever 3 putting on these vast expanses, i couldnt get my bearings! some quite good holes, as one would expect. not a great course, but still worth a hit

This is the second time I have played here and it is still one of the best courses around. Friendly staff are always a pleasure to deal with.

The course is an awesome experience. Beautiful fairways and greens. And challenging to any type of golfer.

Well worth a look.

My group played the original 18 holes with great satisfaction on the 11th October 2005. Long enough to be challenging for 14 handicappers, but not overly punishing when not accurate on the wide fairways and large greens, I managed with the use of only 2 balls.

Excellent all-round condition of tees, fairways and large true greens that were not as fast as expected. Nothing much to criticise, although play was fairly slow in the afternoon.

This is the flatter and newer of the Royal Pines courses. It was a few years ago I played so my memory is not perfect.

Nonetheless I enjoyed my round there. It was in good condition, and reasonably generous in some areas in terms of fairway landing areas. It's greens are quite large, so whilst you may get away with a slightly off line tee shot, you'll need to be an excellent putter to make up for a slightly off line approach.

There's a fair bit of water and enough foliage to challenge, and whilst not spectacular, it was pretty enough to enjoy the round.

Would recommend playing here, albeit slightly less pretty an experience than the West course.
