Royal Pines Resort

Gold Coast, QLD | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.0) | Add A Review

RACV Royal Pines Resort’s championship golf course has three challenging 18 Hole combinations.

The flowing waters of the Nerang River frame the Gold Course with both fresh and salt-water lakes coming into play on nine of the eighteen holes. Surrounded by the East-side residential precinct, the Green Course is a golfing oasis of emerald greens and hidden challenges. A testing final 9 holes combines deep bunkers with undulating greens and tight airways.

The Blue Course combines the old and the new with the first 9 holes shaped around natural land formations with undulating greens. The final 9 holes have more generous greens and wide open fairways, a truly majestic golfing experience.

Played the Blue course for the first time.
Play was slow for the first 3 or so holes and for the first 3 or so of the back nine.
Course was in great condition with true greens.
The course is flat with limited rough to ensure you don’t get punished for wayward drives, other than the 50% of holes or so with water.
A good mornings golf!

PROS

  • Great condition

Cons

  • Flat

Played the Blue/Gold course at Royal Pines on Monday 9/6/14. The friendly starter took our bags to our cart while we parked the car and went to the pro shop. The weather was chilly and the wind was blowing but the course was in excellent condition and we had a great game. The fairways are good and the pace of the greens were good, neither too slow nor too fast. After the game we retired to Tees for a very nice lunch which was surprisingly good value. The added bonus was the free WiFi, nice to see these establishments getting into the 21st century. All in all I would recommend Royal Pines as a must play course on the Gold Coast.

An entertaining round of golf was had by myself. The course was in great condition and the staff were very friendly and helpful.Royal Pines has a well stocked pro shop that kept my girlfriend and I looking for an age. Will definitely be returning for another round, unfortunately not until 2015.

!st time playing Royal Pines and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great course and the new works should see improvements that could only make it better. It’s no wonder the ALPGA choose to play the Ladies Masters here.

The best of the courses we played on the Gold Coast, others which included Lakelands (very good) Palm Meadows, Tweed Coolangatta and Ocean Shores.

Very nice course, great layout with plenty of water hazards. Great practice facilities and very friendly staff.

PROS

  • Rewarded for a good drive with very quick fairways.
  • Challenging for all golfing abilities

Cons

  • Inconsistency in bunkers. Some were to firm whilst others were very soft and easy to play
  • Greens to firm, often would run off the back even with high ball flight.

Played the ’Blue’ course and had a blast. Amazingly maintained course even while they are performing extensive work to other layouts there. So impressed with the size of the greens and the quality of fairways. Will happily return. Struggled to fit 18 in from tee off after 2pm but were in no rush around the front. One of my favourite courses.

We played the Blue course, as unfortunately the back nine of the championship course is being redeveloped.

The Blue course front nine is short, and fairly easy to score on if you keep the ball in play – which isn’t too hard to do for a low/high-mid handicapper as the landing areas are fairly generous. The greens were a touch bumpy, not overly undulating and pretty big, which made for 3-putt danger. The 1st is a nice risk-reward hole where you can take on the green with the big stick, risking water on the right and being dead/bunkered left, or hit 3-4-iron/wedge to ease in.

The back nine (front of the championship course) really doesn’t have too much going for it. Flat, fairly boring greens, and not really much going as far as character or wow holes are concerned.

On the plus side, the fairways were absolutely pristine – the best I have played on in Australia. The resort was also outstanding, and value-wise at $120 as an RACV member, plus drink and golf discounts, was very pleasing.

If you’re looking for something more than just a typical GC resort course, this isn’t it. I imagine the best time to play it would be just after a major event, ie the Aussie PGA or the Women’s pro tournament. But there’s nothing ’wow’ in it to me. Maybe I’m spoiled by the Melbourne golfing landscape

Great course…great greens and nice bunkering!

Course is simple but always in great condition…the new changes to the layout over the next few years may cause some short term headaches but will be amazing in the long term!

PROS

  • Maintenence
  • Staff in whole complex

Cons

  • Simple Greens and Layout "easier course"

We played the Blue + Gold course and would have to say the course is in extremely good nick. Ladies Masters is on next week and they will be using the Gold course, so the blue tees were slightly modified to cater for this. Bunkers were a free drop due to some rain, but I’d only seen 1-2 bunkers that had been affected. This meant competition was modified to be included in your handicap. I found the Blue course more enjoyable + interesting. Water came a bit more into play. Greens were in great nick but we found them to be all the same, flat and straight. There was nothing special about them. Course staff were really helpful and friendly and pro shop stocked with quality gear. Being an RACV member, I’m happy to take advantage of my annual free game.

PROS

  • Condition of course perfect
  • Friendly Staff
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Greens were boring

Much better value than the Glades which was a rip off at $72 when greens were cored and bunkers contains no sand. Glades Bar and pro shop closed before 5pm. First played Royal Pines shortly after it opened and as good as ever. Still one of the top golf courses on the Gold Coast and Queensland. Greens tough to read but in good condition. Fairways excellent. All staff very helpful.

Played all 27 holes the day following recent storms and was surprised at how well the course had recovered from strong winds and heavy rain although many bunkers still full of water. Found the 9 holes of the Blue course a bit uninteresting and not that challenging compared to the Green and Gold courses. My 16 yo son playing off 17 handicap shot 83 off the back markers on the green and gold combination so easy to see how the pros scored so well in the PGA. Good value for money particularly if you play at afternoon prices.

Excellent idea to keep the PGA tee boxes around. Really enjoyed playing the same course as the pros. I honestly thought royal pines should have made a bigger deal about it. All the boys at work were keen as when I told them it was still set up that way. Fairways on some holes were the best I have ever seen them. Greens were very slow due to recent rain. Overall very happy

Course was in great condition and we were able to play the set-up they used for the PGA.
Unfortunately it was ridiculously slow. We were on track for a 5 and a half hour round, but pulled the pin with 2 holes to play.
A course Marshall would be a great addition.

Played the gold(1st 9)and Blue (2nd 9) yesterday. The course was in good condition due to the PGA played last week. That’s where the compliments stop.
It took us (group of 3) 5 and a half hours to get around. Waited on every shot and golfers were backed up behind us. Tee time was booked for 12.08 and was somehow moved to 12.16 and we still didn’t hit off until 12.30. This didn’t concern the staff who commented: "it’s only 15 minutes".
No course marshalls to try and speed things up at all.
The drinks cart lady had to cover 27 holes by herself, and wasn’t happy about it.
Only just finished our round before a thunderstorm hit, everybody behind us had to cut their round short.
No starter on a course with this many players is ridiculous
Will certainly review our options before booking here again

The gold course was great and the staff were friendly, course had been fertilized and greens dusted with sand but the course was in great condition.Very open course but if you miss the fairway you have to chip out pretty well.

Played Royal Pines today. Looked like a challenge from the hotel room but it wasn’t. It was well presented but agree with others that there was not much sand in the bunkers…just as well. Paid $82 but if I had to pay their normal price I would say the course is overrated. I thought the greens were very good. It was slow, had a group of 6 !! in front of us. Who allows a group of 6??

Course is not spectacular, bunkers were really rough, hardly any sand in them. Really need attention
Would not play there again, it took two of us nearly 5 hours for a round of golf (finished in the dark). We waited on each and every single shot. Royal Pines were certainly after money. They had a corporate day and then jammed in every other player they could manage.
Rather disappointing.

We played Gold and Green. It was an average golf course. Flat and wide fairways. Sand was a bit hard. Greens were OK. The course was crowded on a Sat morning.

The shower facilities were poor. We had to collect the towel. There were no soap or shampoo provided.

Challenging course that is always well presented. I played on the Gold course on the first sunny day after a very week couple of weeks. The bunkers were GUR, and carts were restricted to paths, but the fairways were dry and greens in good condition.

PROS

Cons

  • Bunkers need work.

Played Royal Pines today, 2nd game on this course. I honestly just can’t get excited about this course…no matter which way you look at it, it just an average golf course. Greens were average, fairways were well below par. I won’t ever play there again. The only reason they hold the masters and PGA there is because there is plenty of room for spectators

Played Gold course. Heavy rain previous night meant that all bunkers were out of play and were to the brim with water. Fairways were awash. Really the coarse should have been declared unplayable. However the layout is first class and is very fair but challenging. I would recommend playing in dry weather conditions

Played on Anzac Day. Booked through Iseek, arrived at course to find that the front 9 was heavily cored – I have never seen greens with this much sand on them. No discount or notice given that this would be the case during booking. Pace of play was also extremely slow, not sure what the marshall was doing. Add to this no drinks cart and it was a pretty average day all round, would not hurry back.

We enjoyed our rounds at RP immensely on 18 May 2013 – this time playing on the green and blue courses, although we would have loved to play at the Gold but was told there was a comp going on.

$85.00 for a round of golf on a "premier" golf course…hahaha what a joke. The greens were that bad that you could have putted on a paddock and had more chances of making a putt. When we got back to bag drop the staff member had the cheek to tell us that the greens had only been cut the day before. If this was the case I say the greenkeeper was on drugs and had taken out a pair of scissors, got tired and gave up. The bunkers were pretty low on sand and added to a over all bad taste left by having to pay high fees for a course that was not up to scratch.

I have played Brookwater when their greens were sanded and the ball was still rolling true and the price was fair for the current condition of the course. I will never go back nor take my clients for a game at Royal Pines.

The course is in great condition except the greens have been sanded for a comp coming up the issue is there was more sand than green so it made putting hard. The staff were very friendly and did warn about the sanded greens however this woudl have been great to know before i booked. $52 for nien holes isn’t exactly cheap considering the greens were so sandy.
Very slow round no Marshal on the course until the group in front of us phoned to request one be put on the course however things didn’t really speed up after that either.

I drove from Noosa to play this course, I was bitterly disappointed. The greens on the back nine were covered in sand, not just a light cover, if you had a beach towel and a book you would have sworn you were at the beach. You simply could not putt on them, for a supposedly top class course, it was disgusting. There was no mention of this when I booked, had I known this I would not even have booked there. I will be getting a refund from either iseekgolf or the resort itself. Having said that, the course itself is average, i have no idea why people rave on about it. having played The Glades in the morning, there is no comparison. I will never play there again.

We really enjoyed our day here. Course was in good shape, staff very helpful. There was congestion at the first tee, so we expected a painfully slow round. The outside staff at the bag drop came over to us & directed us to tee off on the 9 across the road. We had no hold ups & the day flowed well. Thank you, we’ll play here again soon.

Played Saturday around 11:00. Very slow round which was frustrating. About 8 carts waiting after us at first tee. Greens were in average condition but assume combination of rain and traffic to blame there. Still able to use carts which was a bonus (kept to paths). Fairways in pretty good nick. We lost balls in bunkers due to the amount of water in them. Overall a pretty good course but a long, slow day.

Played the course 3 days after the Ladies Masters. The course was immaculate but we were disappointed with the speed of the greens – very slow. Teed off following a 5 ball who took an eternity to play the first 4 holes. Thankfully they took a wrong turning and continued on the 2nd 9. Towards the end of the round we found ourselves target practice for a group behind despite the pace of play being very good.

Played just before the Ladies Masters and it was in great condition (gold 9). The staff were helpful and friendly. The only issue was that the 9 holes that the Ladies masters was not being played on (our 1st 9 and Blue) the bunkers had way to much sand in them and twice my ball was an inch below the sand level … adds a new meaning to the word pluged! Apart from that it was a great day.

Would recommend this course to all levels of golfers.

Played the Gold ourse New years Eve with my wife. Found the staff welcoming and efficient. Play off 5 and found some challanging holes. A round of 80 off the stick so I was not disappointed concidering ACR for this course is 74. Only dissapointment was the state of the bunkers. They really need work. Great fairways, very fast greens. Under four hours for 18 holes. A very enjoyable afternoon.

Played Royal pines gold course new years eve, met by Marty at bag drop and enjoyed his friendly engaging personality, course was quite empty so i was able to get through my round in good time.
Most bunkers had mud in the bottom of them from recent rain (i know i shouldnt be in them), with this my only gripe, golf carts neat and tidy and fast.
Played most Gold coast courses and this was a little diffrent with strategic bunkering on most holes.
I think this course is a good choice for anyone looking for a relaxing round(from the front tees) or a bit of a challenge(off the blue tees)

Course itself wasn’t too bad at all. Greens were extremely two paced. Staff were helpful except there was no course Marshall and it took 3 hours to play 9 holes due to the fact there were a lot of single players as well as others believing they were a chance to win the US Masters by lining up every single shot for 5 minutes. Got caught behind a pair where the male was "coaching" the female with every shot. Would have been much more enjoyable if play was quicker.

Played Royal Pines for the first time today & it challenged me in a number of ways that other courses I have played to date have not.I am not an overly seasoned player-(I’m 45yo & have played about 100 or so times & non member, average round give or take 100 off the stick) I played on a Sunday & on line savings was only $2. Thought it was interesting that it is a 27 hole course & on the phone was told I could choose, but after I paid, the staff that gave me my cart & score card told me I could not choose, so I played "the blue round." The front 9 I played ok not great but ok. The back 9 was more difficult for me with a number of 7’s & 8’s on my score card. I pared 3 holes out of the 18 & found a lot of technically placed fairway bunkers (a LOT of them) had me thinking or playing recovery shots. I didn’t enjoy the course greatly & found most of the undulating & sloping large greens also claiming a few shots on my score card. For the money I thought "Palmer Colonial" was a better course to play but also less technical.

When played from the back tees this is a challenging course with plenty of water and sand. Unfortunately I found the water a few too many times, including that hidden from sight when standing on the tee. I’ll pay a little more attention to the card pictures next time.
Even though I played in October, after the winter dry season, the course was quite green and the greens were in reasonable nick, if not slightly on the slow side for the quality course.

The course was in excellent condition. The greens were faster than my home club but not actually as fast as I thought they may be. Overall a nice but fairly easy layout – you need to hit a pretty bad shot to get into any real trouble – I’m a 26 handicapper and only lost 1 ball.

Pace of play was excellent with no delays after the 2nd tee and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable round.

Although a fairly simple layout the course definitely rewards the accurate player rather than the power hitter especially with the very short par 3’s. Fantastic Royal Pines I’ll see you next time!

I played the "Gold Course" on Sunday, this is made up of the two nine holes from the original course and not the newer "links style" nine holes to the west.

Very traditional style course, not without it’s challenges but all in all a well maintained and appealing layout. One thing I love about Royal Pines are the Greens, not easy by any means but at least their consistant. Nothing bugs me more than playing a course were you have to smash the ball on one green and if you breath on it the next its gone a mile.

We played the green course on Saturday, course was in great condition with the greens running true.
Long enough to be challenging for weekend warriers but not so much as to make it unplayable.
Great value buying on iseek golf.

Played the gold course on June 15th. this is my first time at the course and was impressed with the service from staff right from the start. The course is fairly straight forward, with water hazards which don’t really come into play that often if you hit straight, and in very good condition.
The only problem was the slow play (5hrs, with a cart). There were so many people on the course (Saturday morning) that play almost ground to a halt on occasions. Perhaps a midweek round would be more advisable.

The course was in superb condition, fairways were excellent, greens true if a little slow, the only downside was some of the bunkers could do with more sand but apart from that a good course. This is a resort course and gives all levels of golfer a chance without penalising them too harshly for errant shots, the water while always present is avoidable. I would play there again.

Good course and service, only problem was told that I was to play 9 holes even though the booking was for 18. Was told that when I queried it the next day it was for as many holes as I could play from 2pm

The first 9 of the Blue course (other side of road to the hotel) were fairly poorly maintained. The bunkers were rock hard and still showed rain damage from 1 week plus ago’s torrential rain. I was very disappointed. The second nine, back over on the resort side, was in much better condition. If you are going to charge top dollar for your course, you need to maintain it!! Not good enough Royal Pines. If you are thinking of playing Royal Pines demand not to play the blue course. Stick to the hotel side of the road and you’ll have a far better experience.

The course was very well presented, however, recent rain had slowed down the speed of the greens. It’s a good test from the back tee, into a strong south easterly wind. If you miss the fairway the ball sits well down in the rough, which places a premium on straight driving.

Played here in early March, course was great. Can’t fault the greens of fairways. Bunkers looked tidy but I didn’t fine one all day. Green staff were a little rude, it doesn’t take much to nod your head and say G’day boys. Still loved every minute of the course though!

Had a good day weather conditions leading up to the Sunday were so bleak they had to close the course on the Saturday so was very impressed to see how good the drainage was.

Unfortunately though because the weather had been so bad for the last few days they were unable to mow the greens so they were extremely slow and would not take much borrow otherwise things were great, enough sand and water to make you sufficiently anxious on the tee.

Played the Green course yesterday. Superb condition, apart from the bunkers which were too firm because of the recent rain, and also the fact that other players were not raking the sand after playing their shots. Not a long course, but not overly short – makes playing very enjoyable in that you can get to the green in regulation if you are higher handicapper and are playing well. Greens have lots of undulations, but run straight and true. Played early in the morning (on my own) and staff were generous enough to allow me to tee off before the main field started – finished my round in 3 hours, before the course became too hot and too busy. Will recommend it to others and will play again if the green fees are right.

Course was in top condition following the Ladies Masters. I have visited Royal Pines with a four or eight ball at least once a year for the last decade. They really need to have someone do some training on customer service though. In both the bar and the pro shop they were offhand and preoccupied with not serving the customer. Real shame that. There are plenty of other courses I can go to for a better experience and I will do just that next year.

96. chichadot | Rated | 09 Feb 2012 | Add A Review

Royal Pines course was as usual in tip top condition. Unfortunately there were so many people on the course that on every tee there were two or three groups waiting to tee off as we arrived. Therefore we had to wait on every shot thereafter. This does not lend itself to an enjoyable round of golf. When you pay $85 per person I expect to be able to move between each shot and be able to hit off the next tee basically straight away. The marshall was very good but there was little he could do. Will have second thoughts about playing social golf at Royal Pines (especially paying $85)again.

Played on Dec 28 and the tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great condition. The only thing that could have improved our experience was the speed of the greens. It was too slow from the sand that was spread over it.

Otherwise, it’s a great easy course to play with beautiful scenery.

Played Wednesday 21st December 9:20am
The golfing gods were looking after me today.
1. I played the original 18
2. Played the front 9 with the course to myself!?
3. Course was on golfshot Gps iPhone app.
Tee boxes, fairways, greens were all in good shape!
Bunkers were needing some attention. Overall very happy.

Completed the round in under 3hrs. Great result.

Will be going back!

Ps the par5’s are reachable in 2, should you carry the ball 250m, playing off the white tees!! The ground staff have begun their prep work for the ladies championship to be played in Feb next year! This will not impact on your round!
Enjoy

Our group were somewhat dissapointed with our experience. There was no information on Seek Golf when booking that the Blue course back nine greens were being renovated. Mainenance of their bunkers seems to have wanned somewhat with many greenside bunkers growing weeds. Maybe we just caught it on a bad day but would have preferred to be advised if the course is under any renovation.

Played off the back tees but still found the course pretty straight forward compared to other courses on the coast (e.g. Glades) The course condition was great though and we really enjoyed the day. I played the Green course which was in very good condition given the amount of rain the day before and in recent weeks. The greens on the first nine are quite flat but on the second nine over the road slopes and borrows are very noticeable. Although I don’t know, I suspect that nine has a different designer from the Ladies Masters layout. Although there is plenty of water, the fairways are wide enough to score well and there is little rough.
Staff were very helpful and the whole resort is very appealing for a holiday. If your game is in reasonable shape, a good score is on offer

Great weather and a brilliant day’s golf. I took my son, who has never played a "classy" course like Royal Pines. His first impression – he was "blown away" by having a Royals Pines staff member greet us and then offer to take our clubs and set up our golf buggy, while we confirmed our booking in the pro shop.
The course was in great shape, especially the greens. The bunkers could do with a little more soft sand, they were quite unforgiving.
All up a fantastic day and well worth the $85 green fee.

I was happy until the 3rd hole, we were paired with another couple upon arrival due to your course being fully booked on this particular day. We were told to hurry up, this upset me greatly as I had paid my green fees just as everyone else and there is no pre-requisite to be Tiger Woods to play at your course. I am an amature golfer with above average ability and I am aware of the time allowances for each hole etc so I didn’t think we were playing’slow’ however your Course Marshall seemed to disagree. I’d return to Royal Pines as a last resort if I could not manage to get on at another golf course.

We played early in the morning and the course looked gorgeous with the early sunlight. Was in very good condition. The greens are relatively flat but nonetheless quite challenging. The course itself was great.. However the service was HORRIBLE.. We saw the drinks cart once in 18 holes.. Was constantly hit up on by another group when we were being held up by others in front..the bar service in the cafe outside the pro shop was rude and unsatisfactory.. The young girl who served my stubbie ripped half the rim of my beer off..slammed it down and walked away.. We saw plenty of other players dressed like they were playing at a course of a much lower standard wearing sweat shorts snd football socks.. I can safely say i will never go back.. Not when there are other courses such as brookwater, pelican waters, the glades etc where you really DO get what you pay for.. Royal pines lift your game or take away the ROYAL out of your name

A very pleasant course, that is not as challenging as many others we have played on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.
The course was immaculately groomed although there was understandable muddy areas and bad lies in bunkers, following recent weeks of rain. The greens were disappointingly slow and contrasted those at the nearby Glades course, where we enjoyed beautiful fast and true surfaces.
We found the "after golf" drinks and food on the terrace in lovely sunshine finished off our first, but hopefully not last, experience at Royal Pines in a delightful manner.

A game of two halves, the blue course as it is known has the extra 9 holes first and then then 9 of the actual course, I was 5 over after the first 9 holes (open wide and short) and 5 over after the first two holes of the back 9 (tighter and longer).
So if you get to play the Gold and Green course be prepaired for a challenge, if you play the blue dont get complacent.

Staff all around were very professional and more helpful and happy to talk than a lot of other places.
The course was very good without being spectacular. The greens were really good and consistent. They appear to not have much break but don’t let that deceive you.
The bunkers were out of play on the second nine due to the rain but managed not to hit them which helped. The rest of the course you couldn’t tell that there had been a lot of rain recently.
Overall a good day and the setup of the resort with the course makes the experience very professional from start to finish.

Played at Royal Pines on Saturday (16/10) on what was an extemely windy day & shortly after serious rain.

We played the Blue Course and unfortunately the front 9 greens + Tees had been sanded (no-one in the pro-shop told us). The back nine was perfect. It really is a special course and has something different to offer in comparison w other Gold Coast resort courses. Not to say that the course is better than the Glades etc. – just different,

We really enjoyed our day out regardless of the casual water, wind and sandy greens on the front nine. Will definitely be back again soon.

Always try to play at Royal Pines every time I am home. It had rained pretty heavy a few days before having a hit, joined up with a couple of other blokes and as always had an enjoyable game, not many out as a corporate day was lined up after our tee off

Well maintain, nice course, friendly staff from bag drop off. Played on 25 Sep on Blue and Gold nines. While Blue was shorter, Gold’s a real challenge for a high handicapper like me!
Overall, enjoy the game at RACV Royal Pines, where RACQ members can get similar deal.

I played Royal Pines on Wednesday 1st Sep 2010. The course was in excellent condition and I played the yellow set up off the blue Markers. The course is lovely and as I tee’d off at 6:32am there was no one on the course. I played pretty well so maybe that is also why I liked the course…

The staff at the club should also be congratulated as they were very helpful and great to talk to…

I have played here around 9 years ago, there have been some changes, I like the lay out fairways and tees were well grassed, greens were very slow not holding to well. Front nine was frustrating and very slow group of choppers in front playing ambrose and taking their time made it slightly unpleasent at one point on the 9th we were backed up with 3 groups waiting on the tee for these ignoramouses to play out.

The course is nice but the water drinage is not done properly causing some damages to the fairway. The course looks easy but can be a good test. It’s a bit more expensive than Robina Woods and we think Robina Woods offer a more interest round of golf.

Only disappointment was the service
- Bar tabs – The club house is separate to the drinks cart so 3 separate transactions had to be made.
- The first visit from the drinks cart was as we were putting the 9th
- The second visit half way through the second nine the drinks cart just drove past and didnt stop and didnt see her again.

I played this sunday on the championship course, Its a great course, beautiful greens and fairways. We got around in about 4hrs 15mins which is fairly good time. It was busy and the only thing that detracted from the day was the group behind us, hurrying us up, particularly as we were
playing at a good pace. My round consisted of some very good holes and some not so good (105 – been playing for 4 months). THe bunkers are in excellent condition and I managed to get myself out of them very consistently. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

This is the second visit for us. We enjoyed playing here and the breakfast was delicious. The course was in good condition although most of the bunkers in the back nine were "washed out" due to the heavy rains. To a couple of weekend hackers, we enjoyed our day and most certainly will return sometime in the future.

192. AndyCumming1 | Rated | 30 Jul 2010 | Add A Review

It was unfortunate that torrential rains prevented play on the first day booked. The next day the course was opened but all bunkers were flooded and were designated GUR and carts were not allowed on the fairways – this slowed play quite a bit. I was playing in a twosome but was booked behind two fourball matches so this slowed play even more.
The course overall was challenging but enjoyable to play despite the adverse weather. Service in the clubhouse was friendly and attentive although food service was a bit slow.

We played the Gold course which is all on the Eastern side of the main road. This is much more enjoyable than playing on the west which we have found to be a bit ordinary, but we can’t quite work out why. It just doesn’t feel as good as the Eastern side.
The game was a bit slow as we had a group of four who were having a great time standing around having a chat and a laugh ( and 15 strokes to the green ). There was however a Course Marshall who promptly sorted things out after several holes and we were then able to play with nobody ahead of us which was fantastic for a Saturday afternoon.
We found the 18th the most challenging with two large bunkers in front and the positioning of the pin causing a few problems for all of us.

PROS

  • Great Course, Great price and good on-course marshall.

Cons

  • People who have no idea of Golf Etiquette

Great day had by mate & I on a well presented course. Greens are true and fast just the way it should be, the bunkers were there but the sand was clean & light, fairways were in immaculate condition with enough bounce for the driver & soft enough for the approach. The facilities at Royal Pines whilst not the best on the Gold Coast are good and serviceable. The staff are helpful. The golf course itself presents a challenge for all golfers of varying abilities. There is something in it for everyone. On the day that I played it was on the Green (Formerly known as Binnowee) and Blue (Formerly known as Wangara) course combination. The course is well designed with the majority of holes offering golfers choices between riskier and safer routes. Each time I have played the course it has been during the Winter months and it has always been in really good condition. Generally the course is well marked and easy to get around and the cart paths are excellent. Once you have completed the front nine additional signage directing you to the back nine of the Blue would be helpful as it is some distance away and you can easily end up on the Gold Course (Aroona) instead.
Some of the greens were a little sandy making them slow and hard to read but overall not too bad. Generally the greens are reasonably large. Royal Pines represents great value when compared to other layouts in the region and overall it is pleasing to the eye. If I have a criticism on the day I played it was pace of play. The suggestion time is 4.5 hours, which I think encourages slow play. Really it should be just over 4 hours tops. In all I highly recommend the course to you.

I really enjoyed this layout. Whilst not spectacular in terms of views or landmarks etc.. it was very well maintained. The fairways were true and in excellent condition. The service at the pro shop when i first arrived was great and very efficient.

In the other aspect of improvements or issues, i found the rough to be quite thick and on a few occasions was very lucky to find my ball or any my playing partners. For a resort type course i beleive this should be considerably shorter. The greens were excellent on the front nine, but when i crossed the road to the back 9, found on several greens that the grass was burnt off and this caused several bobbles on putts.

On the whole though i would recommend playing this layout at the $79 price, but not unfortunately at the normal prices. Still though, was an enjoyable day had by all!

Royal Pines is a very well designed golf course. A couple of friends and myself played there last weekend. We were a little disapointed that the pro shop or the starters box did not inform us that the greens on the Blue course had been sanded and were not up to the standard that we experienced last time we played there. One other point of dissatisfation was that the rough just off the fairways and around the greens was extremely deep and thick, concealing your ball from view, even when you just about standing ontop of it. This meant if you strayed only slightly of course, it could take several minutes to find your ball. This does not promote a smooth flowing game for all players.

Great course was all that i expected, the west 9 is great, very challenging especially the deep fairway bunkers and has some awesome undulation. Top course good paced round, was also good that the marshall was going around keeping the pace right unlike most courses.

Downfall was the thick rough can eat balls up make sure you bring plenty if you have a high handicapp or a bit wayward.

Played Easter Monday. Firstly, I would say that Royal Pines is a fantastic course with 5* service. It is one of our most favorite places to play golf on the coast. The back GREEN 9 is superb with challenging bunkers laced on the fairway and protection the green.

The fairways and greens were well manicured but the fist cut rough was just punishing. Very very difficult to find balls that were in the first cut rough let alone trying to hit out of it.

A couple of times our playing partners dropped a ball while in the rough and couldn’t find it. haha

I would recommend this course highly and its even better if you are a member of RACV, RACQ or even NRMA – you get their members rate which less than their standard rack rate.

Would play again as soon as possible.

I had a great round. Being an average golfer I loved playing on manicured fairways and putting on greens that ran true.
Get off the fairways and you ran into some trouble, especially in the second cut of rough. Deep bunkers that had real sand and plenty of water around the course made you really think about every shot.
I would reccomend this course to everyone and if you are a bit wayward off the tee, bring plenty of balls.

I wish to convey my disappointment with both the clubs booking system and iseekgolf’s miscommunication with the culub.

I tried to book a round of golf for the morning of the 14th March only to find out that your booking sytem for Royal Pines was down. I was left with no other choice but to call the course direct to book my round. They were happy to accept my booking.

Upon arrival, we were advised that there would be a wait due to double and over bookings. We were force to wait for 45 minutes until it was our turn to tee off. Not only that due to the large number of players on the course, the time to complete the round nearly exceeded five hour.

For a course of this standard and price this was unacceptable. Although the course was in good condition this experience left both my visitor (who by the way was from another state as a tourist) and my self very disappointed with the handling and management of the excessive numbers. Although I have use this service on many occassions, I am reluctant to continue to do so.

The Royal Pines is a true resort style course, well bunkered and plenty of water. If you can hit the ball at least 200m straight and can hit a seven iron thru to a wedge straight you should shoot a score in the 70’s. I played there 2 days after Carrie Webb won her seventh title and I can see how she shot 11 under on her final round. The green are big and flat and roll very true. Good course.

Had a great day, was very windy which didn’t help a couple of times with the water, but greens in great shape and overall experience a good one.

We played the Gold Course. Reception, Pro Shop were all very courteous and helpful. The fairways are reasonably generous although a few do seem to slope tothe water if you are not in the right position. Greens were large, fairly flat andd a consistent speed which is necessary. The one draw back is that the sand traps didn’t have enough sand in the bottoms. I was in several and it was hard pan in the bottom and the sides seemed to have more sand. Enjoyed the course tremendously as the layout is tough enough for the average golfer yet not overly difficult for higher handicaps.
I would highly recommend this course.

I played Royal Pines Gold Course on a Sunday afternoon, the staff where very attentive. The course overalll though quite flat was still challenging. A word of warning the crows are a smart bunch, flying down into my cart whilst on the green and stealing a packet of unopened chips to take ooof and share with his mates.

Course in good condition early January. Not overly tough but most holes have sloping to the water which makes placement even more important. Good to see a marshall on frequent patrol though he was not needed for our round as it moved quite smoothly.

Played 29th Dec 2009 after two days of heavy rain…bunkers were mostly full of water and looked like duck ponds…no rain today though.
Early start 7.30 am was wise…large groups behind us. Staff very helpful. Course held up well…we could have carts as long as we kept to paths. Quite long from back tees …especially against the wind.
Enjoyable day…will return

I had a 9:12am tee-off booked. The course officials could confirm I had a booking but didn’t know when it was for, so they ended up with two groups teeing off at the same time – apparently this is normal for them, and they often have a lot of problems with double booking of tee times.

Top draw golf here folks! Not a long course by any stretch but the many bunkers and wind that can get up expecially over the back 9 means alot of thought goes into a round of golf here.

Staff very friendly and course is usually not over-crowded. A definate must for any golfer playing on the gold coast.

It rained on the day sporadically but the course drained well and it was in good condition. Didn’t enjoy the sand (I’d say that was my fault though). Staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks/food cart not regular enough. Saw it twice in the first three holes and then nothing until the back nine. Enjoyable day.

Played here for the first time and was pretty impressed. Proshop staff were friendly and didn’t mind explaining where things were. Played a combination of Blue and Gold Course and you could definitely see the difference. The Blue course was much more undulating and the large greens had more slope and roll to them. There was a good mix of short and longer holes, but generally speaking it was a pretty short 9. The Gold course which had been around for longer was a little flatter on the fairways with slightly easier greens. They were quite a bit slower too.
The bunkering on both courses was impressing, not just visually either, with pin positions making greenside bunkers come into play on most holes.
Would definitely go back for another round.

PROS

  • Big greens
  • open fairways
  • friendly staff

Cons

  • inconsistant green speed between courses

Have played Royal Pines several times before and loved the course, however played on fri 18/12 and came away disappointed. This course needs a major facelift as it is now very tired looking. Greens on green and gold course poor, tee boxes not level and shabby fairways ok but not much better than a good suburban course. No drinks cart after the 3rd hole and not much to choose from food wise after nine. The other annoying fact was we played at the same time as a work group and had to endure drunken shouts all way round

Great course. We played at 6:32 and were the second group to tee off. I lost a few balls as they only have to get close to the water to roll in, Still it was a very enjoyable round. Fairways are quite wide and greens quite large, there are a few trees around but nothing to worry about too much.

Course is always in good nick and is a pretty fair one too. You will have to be playing well below your best not to shoot your handicap. Greens are large, receptive and true. Played the original back nine and the west nine. Finished in three and a half hours.

This is the second time around Royal Pines and it is a good course…very well layed out, in reasonably good condition considering the lack of rain recently.
However I didn’t like the fact that there was no one on the course around our tee time, yet the starter paired us with the group 2 ball behind us…I would expect that sort of condensing at a cheaper course, but I feel when you pay for a tee time at a course like this, you expect to have that tee time for yourself.
Just my two cents worth…

A series of nice fairways with challenging bunker, water hazard and green positions.
The first nine holes were under maintenance and the bunkers were perfect to play from. However the last nine holes were not under maintenance as yet and the bunkers were compacted and unpredictable with each recovery shot.A beautiful course nonetheless and excellent staff courtesy.

Staff very good and helpful. It was a shame they hadn’t been notified by I Seek of our booking which made us half an hour late teeing off. I shot 78 off the red markers so very happy.

Played the Gold Course with 5 others on a Sunday mid-morning (November 2009). Course itself in excellent condition. Played off the white teas and found it to be a fairly easy course, although some of the green-side bunkers make it tricky.
The staff need to be congratulated. The service we received was the best ever and the way they spaced the tee-offs and then marshalled it meant that we were never waiting for the group in front or being hounded by those behind us.
They even had a professional photographer on the 4th hole and you could buy your best photo for $20 after your round.
Would thoroughly recommend it. Rate it higher than Lakelands.

Drinks cart came around 3 times in the 18. Hired clubs and they were sensational. Callaways all round. Easily over $2500 worth so we couldn’t blame the clubs! Helps to chip in on 2 consecutive holes – birdie out of the sand and par from the fringe after a duffed approach.

Greens, grounds, fairways, bunkers and staff all up to expectations, and with the ISG discount, well worth the money (!) A great course with some of the longest par 5’s I’ve ever played. Played the green and gold course off the back tees, some great holes.

Greens were fast and good to putt on but far to hard for approach shots. Two of the players in my group are spin kings, both of whom I’ve seen spinning the ball back 15ft were having trouble getting the ball to sit down. Putting off the back fringe constantly does get a little frustating eventually.

A clerical error which sadly seems to be a not uncommon occurance when you book through i-seek meant we nearly never got on the course. The proshop guys were superb and had phoned round to get us a discounted deal at Palm Meadows instead down the road. They did actually managed to get us out on afterall but full marks for effort.

Cons

  • Greens too hard

Quite an experience on a sunny 26 degree Queensland day. Beautiful course, very well maintained and friendly staff. Good organisation, staff were plentiful and keen to assist. They welcomed iseek customers. Play was good with little to no delays or hold ups for slow play. Greens were in good condition with a true line and pace. Blue nine was a different and exciting challenge with well placed fairway bunkers and undulating greens that tested your abilities. You had to think before just grabbing the driver at each par four and five. The photos on the third were a good touch and the quality was great.

A very enjoyable experience off the back markers.

The staff very very professional but not overly friendly.

After a slightly slow start the field picked up speed and the back nine was completed is good time.

The course is in magnificant condition. Tees and fairways are well groomed and the greens, whilst a little firm, ran true with good speed.

The bunkers were the only disappointment. Mostly from other players not bothering to rake after themselves but also some were a little shallow on sand. Best to stay out of them and enjoy the wide fairways!

Without question the best catering of any golf club I have visited!

I enjoyed the course but it was sodden after lots of rain this meant play was very slow and that made it hard to get into a flow. It took us just over three hours to play nine holes and I pulled the pin before the end as it was taking far too long. If you consider value for money in hours on the course I got good value, otherwise…. The staff were helpful and friendly and the Cafe adjoinging the Pro Shop has good food and was excellent value. I had the lasagne and salad and it was $8.00 and a generous portion.

Not as challenging as I had thought it would be but still a very good course. The only downfall for the day was the actual management of the "play". There were over 300 players our on the course and they allowed some groups to walk, which slowed up play immensely. They also allowed groups of "one" to tee off before and after us. We had been grouped with another 2 to play in a 4 however they didn’t turn up. They also allowed groups to walk the course – I would think with such a big field carts should be mandatory. We teed off at 1:12pm and didn’t get to finish 18 holes due to poor light.

Golf course was really good the condition was fantastic, we were booked to tee off at 8.32 and directed to play the green course first then the blue course second, during our first nine we were held up by the group infront (who also had a habit of leaving clubs on the greens) which meant a visit by the course marshall who was understanding of the problem, we were a group of four with two buggies and we were followed by a group of another rour who all had a buggy each making them alot quicker than us.

However there was no big problem as we only had two holes left to play on that nine. On the way to the second nine our group stopped and bought a hot dog from the sasage sizzle being conducted beside the starters hut.

When we arrived at the tenth tee we agreed to let the group behind go through as they were much quicker, by the time we finished our food they hadent shown so we started on our way, by the time we had played the twelth hole we recieved another visit from one of the course marshalls letting us know that in one hour and ten minutes there would be a shot gun start competition comencing and that if we wernt up to or playing the seventeenth we would have to leave the course.

We told him we were sent to this side and that nothing was said either when we first arrived or at the starters hut when we started and at half way, whilst he was sympathetic his answer was he did not make the bookings, this doesn’t help when you have paid 80 dollars to play.

On the up side whilst on the range we met Peter Senior and also saw him out playing. I guess all I am saying is that it would pay to check at the start if there is any thing you need to know that may affect your game.

Royal Pines is fast becoming our favourite Gold Coast course – even over the stunning Glades. The greens are just the best. Lightning fast but true. Exactly what you expect (well, hope for anyway). It has all the usual suspects as well – ever present water, acres of bunkers and majestic old trees filled with magnets.

Best asset though is the chef in coffee shop. The baguette filled with avocado, caramelised onions, mushrooms and fried egg was scrumptious.

What can I say? I am a member at another course on the Gold Coast that has been left to become bush (Parkwood) and I play here now.
Absolutely perfect course! Love everything of it.
Lay-out is nice, wide fairways but water in play on several holes. Some long par 5s and the Wangara 9 hole course is even more picturesque than the Aroona or Binnowee courses on this side of the resort (which are stunning).
Staff very polite, friendly and professional. Marshall always present and ready to intervene when players are taking it extra slow.
Great clubhouse overlooking the practice green and a couple of holes.
Fairways perfect at the moment, sand bunkers a bit hard due to the heavy rain of past weeks, at least on the Aroona and Binnowee Courses.
I like the range as well, good practice facilities, even though I advise to save your money and not to go to the main pro as I found him hugely overrated for what he gives you in return.
Just a great course at a very affordable price now if you are a RACQ or RACV member.

Played here for the 2nd time in 12 months. Was just as impressed the second time around. The course was in great condition even if this greens were a little slow. Course staff are excellent.

Will certainly be back soon.

Service was easily the best golf course experiece I have had in this country. The Starter(Aaron) was very friendly as was the course marshal (Colin) who controlled the 27 holes with ease.
Golf course is the best condition it has been for 10 years!!!

We enjoyed playing the new nine and holes 1 to 9 of the original course. The only sour note was when a course marshall chipped us for slow play, as we were not playing slow, but still managed to get a hole behind the the groups of 2 and 3 golfers in front of us. I unfortunately gave the marshall an earful, as there had been a lot of rain the night before and we had to stay on the cart paths, which definitely led to slower play. We were all club golfers and playing within our handicaps, which ranged from 5 to 12. We actually only took 4 hours for the round, so I don’t class that as slow play.

The booking process was excellent, with payment, confirmation and bookings made through the one organisation and then just having to turn up, check in and play.

Course was in excellent confition, greens a bit slow. The major issue was that although there were course marshalls around the course they did nothing to keep the group ahead of us on time – they were slow, made no attempt to speed up, and we had to constantly wait and hence so did the group behind us. Made the round less enjoyable and more memorable for the wrong reasons – we will not likely go back to that course in a hurry given the lack of control by marshalls to keep groups playing to time.

Played with all bunkers GUR. Made it a little easier, but still not a hard course. As others comment, wide fairways, bunkers are not a hazard for reasonably accurate players. Some VERY long Par 5’s. Enjoyable for $59, but for more dollars I would expect a greater challenge. A definite detraction was the use of dark blue and green flags, they were quite hard to see against the foliage late in the afternoon.

Royal Pines was FANTASTIC!!! The staff are the best there is, the course is in immaculate condition from tee to green and my wife and I are in love with RACV. The PRO SHOP is also a firm favourite as they have the latest styles and great prices. We will be back soon. Thank you all for a great days golf.

The course is great, we played Binawee 18, so the front nine is totally different to the back nine. It was like playing 2 different courses, the back nine reminded me a little of The Glades. Only negative was because the Gold Coast had heavy rain a lot of the bunkers were filled with water, they were GUR for the day. But it was annoying to loose a ball in a green-side bunker filled with very dirty water and not being able to retrieve it.

Very happy with the staff.Weather considered the course was in good condition and challenging.Understandably but not happy about having to carry three or more clubs across the fairways to play a ball and then return to the cart.

Beautiful and challenging course layout and can be deceiving in regards of distance when standing on the tee box.

Staffs are friendly and helpful, 5 star customer services and professionalism. Fairway and green maintainance is also first-class.

Honestly I do not know what some of the criticism about Royal Pines is all about !! This course is in superb condition – as it is clsoe to the Womens Championship in Feb 2009.

The course is awesome – superb greens and fairways are in great condition. The service is always great and you know that you are playing on a great course.

Would HIGHLY recommend to any visitor or local. Will be back for sure.

1st time at Royal Pines went there with three friends. Playes Wangarra (what ever). Front nine were of the standard you would expect, fairway were honest with green that would catch fire if the ran any quicker. Couldn’t see what the fuss was afetr the back nine, still rate Pacfic Harbour the best I palyed by far. Just to make sure this was a fair assessment I palyed at Pacofoc Harbour this morning (Christmas eve). Sorry Royal Pines there is nothing Royal about the gold. Fairways ofn the back nine were of the same standard as a local public course. Very disappointed in the course, fairways were rougher than my backyard and the sand traps had not seen maintenance since the last tour.

Excellent service, couldn’t fault the cooperation shown by all staff. Holes 1->9 on Aroona just recovering from renovation 2wks prior, staff apolgised for inconsistent greens condition. Huge difference of difficulty on Wangara, obviously Championship level holes….. fun but tough. Still enjoyed a magnificent course for 1st time, scoring +2 on handicap. Most satisfying….

Played Tues, Dec 2. Front nine ((orange) was as expected given the nine is currently being groomed (tees and greens) but had held together well given the amount of rain in the weeks prior. The back nine (blue) was more like royal pines standard but alas we could not bear to hang around any longer to finish the 18. The day moved at a snails pace! We were over 4 hours through 13 holes and slowing! It was awful – this is 5.5hr plus round of golf in carts. Lack of good marshalling let down a normally excellent job by Royal Pines staff.

Two firsts – first time with iseekgolf.com and first time playing at Royal Pines. Both pleasurable, and I would have no hesitation in recommending either.

We had an early tee-time of around 6:30am – great weather. The course had held together really well considering the recent deluge.

Greens were maybe a touch slower than we were expecting, but quickened around the back 9. As did the pace of play.

Playing off the whites the par 3s were mostly around the 135m mark. The 5s weren’t really reachable in two for any of us, with the exception of the 9th (from memory).

Good mixture of holes. In a nutshell the front 9 we played was a tighter, more mature traditional layout, the back 9 was more open, and resort styled. Easily defined by the white fluffy sand around the back, and the grey grainy sand around the front.

Service was excellent. Great carts. Drinks cart often and pleasant.

Really enjoyable day – we’d do it again.

My father & I played the Aroona Course that hosts the ladies masters tornament and found the course to be in great condition and a good challenge. Have to agree with previous reviews in that there is a generous amount of fairway to play with and adjoining fairways if you are really wide – however it is still a challenge and good value if you can get on for the price we did – $60. Don’t know if I would pay the full “rack rate” of $120 with the other available options on the coast.

Played this morning on the Aroona Ladies Masters Combination. This is a fantastic resort course and easily equals the best courses I have played. While it’s not overly long, the hazards are very well placed and certainly require some thoughtful play. The course is in great condition with flawless fairways and very true greens, they are a pleasure to putt on. As others have said, the staff were amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful, the course marshals kept play moving steadily which saw us finish up in just over 4 hours. The inclusion of a course guide in the green fees tops it off. I will definitely be heading back sometime soon, especially with $60 ISG deals.

Played October 15 2008 Aroona Ladies Masters Combination. This is a fantastic resort course that any golfer of any skill level can enjoy. There had been a fair bit of rain around, but you wouldn’t have known it. The staff were excellent and couldn’t be more helpful. Loved the inclusion of a course guide in the green fees and even ice in a small esky on the cart (which was a lifesaver later on when it warmed up!). Greens were medium paced and very true, pleasure to putt on. Only mild criticism was some parts of the fairways that had had some rain were quite damp and it did affect your ability to strike the ball cleanly – but apart from that – outstanding golf and we would play there again in a heartbeat!

Staff are excellent very accomodating. Course is immaculate, flat and great for a relaxing (if possible) round of golf. Not a spectacular course in comparison to Coolum or even North Lakes in regards to challenging golf and hazards! Generally if you can get a good price its worth a hit but wouldnt pay over $80 per round for it.

Played Royal Pines today [Aroona and Binnowee] and was pretty impressed. Fairways were in top notch and the greens in excellent condition.

Customer service was very good and course yardage booklet was included in the green fees [special angry mention to other courses where they make you buy the yardage book for $9.95!]

The Tee’s cafe was well stocked and reasonably priced, with a drinks cart doing the rounds. I think the new owners RACV are already making a positive impact.

Aroona front 9 was wide and forgiving but our favourite was the Benowwee 9! Plenty of clover bunkers and water hazards to keep even the straightest shooter thinking!

Overall, a top notch underrated course. No wonder you don’t hear many members raving on about it as they are all trying to keep it to themselves.

First golf trip to the Gold Coast and RP was our first game on Monday 15th Sept 08. Met at “bag drop” and “starters area” by Aaron and staff and couldn’t have been made more welcome. Thoroughly enjoyed our round on a very, very nice, immaculately presented golf course. One of our party had hole-in-one on 11th which helped make our day “special”. Thought the course was in great shape and thoroughly enjoyed the round. Only issue was a corporate day with a shotgun start that we ended up catching on hole 10 (4-6 people playing ambrose), however the friendly and accomodating staff let us move forward a few holes on another 9 which was great and we were not frustrated being stuck behind a slow group. Coming from Brisbane the Gold Coast has a bit of a reputation of slow play courses. Reluctantly we came down and gave the Royal Pine a try.

WOW what a surprise! The place was fantastic. At last a golf course with a Starter that knew what he was there for, to start people on time, an on course Marshall that kept players moving and on schedule, members of staff that were friendly, well mannered, and above all knowledgeable, even the café serves great coffee.

My group played the Blue 18 today at a special rate of $59 per person including buggy. The facilities and staff are excellent. The buggies have coolers (eksys) attached with ice too – nice touch. They also had drinks cart serving alcohol that was reasonably priced.

As far as the course was concerned, it’s challenging, particularly for the hacker whom plays once every 12 months (I fall in to this category). There is lots of sand, and lots of water (first blue 9). If your accurate with your strokes, you’re going to love it. If your lucky to hit 10 good straight shots in a round (me), its going to frustrate you.

Royal Pines, very nice indeed… I played on Friday the 12th January 2008 and the weather was wet to say the least, not too many people on the coarse, no surprise really. Torrential rain, wind, it had it all. The coarse however was better on the day, it beat the rain, sensational layout, tough but not over the top and the greens even with all the rain played true. Drainage on the coarse, excellent, staff excellent, buggies excellent, overall a great day… Look forward to playing there when it is dry… Thank you very much Royal Pines…

Played in August 2007. I found the course layout to be very enjoyable. The greens and fairways were in need of a hair cut, a bit fluffy. Even though the greens were long they still ran fairly well. I found the service here fantastic, I was running late so I called ahead to let them know and they moved my friend and I back a spot. From the course guide down to the gift shop and staff I found this course to be great. I will be back to play again, soon I hope.

My group played the original 18 holes with great satisfaction on the 11th October 2005. Long enough to be challenging for 14 handicappers, but not overly punishing when not accurate on the wide fairways and large greens, I managed with the use of only 2 balls.

Excellent all-round condition of tees, fairways and large true greens that were not as fast as expected. Nothing much to criticise, although play was fairly slow in the afternoon.

This is the flatter and newer of the Royal Pines courses. It was a few years ago I played so my memory is not perfect.

Nonetheless I enjoyed my round there. It was in good condition, and reasonably generous in some areas in terms of fairway landing areas. It's greens are quite large, so whilst you may get away with a slightly off line tee shot, you'll need to be an excellent putter to make up for a slightly off line approach.

There's a fair bit of water and enough foliage to challenge, and whilst not spectacular, it was pretty enough to enjoy the round.

Would recommend playing here, albeit slightly less pretty an experience than the West course.
