The overall presentation of Bribie’s par 72 course is just about resort standard. Fairways are carpet like and greens are shapely and consistent to putt on. There are a couple of water hazards on the back nine and plenty of well designed bunkers that guard the putting surface. The layout itself is fairly standard with much the same sort of view from each tee. There are a few doglegs thrown into the mix and a few lengthy par 4’s make for a good test. Accuracy is a must on this course with sandy, tree lined rough punishing anything sprayed off the tee. Recovering from these spots isn’t easy making scoring difficult. Keep them straight and you’ll enjoy the bush surrounds and a relaxing round of golf. My only concerns are the $40 walking green fee and the lack of 100m markers on the fairways. Worth a hit if you’re visiting the area.

2 of played Thursday teeing off just after 12. We decided to walk the course which proved to be an excellent decision. For the first time since arriving in Oz we weren’t waiting for a group in front. We finshed around 4pm.
Course has had a lot of repair work done to it with turf laid down on many fairways but we hardly noticed it. The greens are the best we’ve played on yet.
We’re looking forward to another game there.

PROS

  • Friendly pro
  • Great layout

Played Bribie Island Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. Since last visiting the course late in 2010 i noticed the clubhouse, surrounding gardens and general vibe of the club had been upgraded. I made my way to the pro shop where was greeted from a friendly lady in the pro shop who informed me where the practice facilities were and that there were carts available. I decided to take a cart as im a busy person and enjoy a quick round. I started on the front nine at 12. To my surprise there has been several changes to some of the holes. On the first hole there was added drainage, removal of a bunker, and additional hazards to the right hand side. I had a good run on the course and managed to have finished by four o’clock. The back nine had some new hazards and visually play more demanding off the tee. It’s no wonder large events such as Bribie Island Gold Cup, Australian Seniors and juniors are held at this course. Its both challenging and enjoyable for all levels of golfers. From the yellows its fair for beginners and social players, and from the blues proves challenging for even some of the best players. The course has been modified to ensure that water drains away quicker and the course can be played all year round. I will be back to play again as its certainly like no other course in Queensland. They pride them selves on having one of Queensland hidden treasures. I think they might be right!

Played 10 June 2012. Even with the weather and the water doing its best to ruin the experience it is a great layout. Lots of variety. Interesting green complexes with lots of bunkering and some very significant bumps and hollows. They rolled well too. Pretty quick but true. Generally felt they played straighter than I sometimes read them.

Played long enough with water and also because the whites seemed to be right back with the blues all day.

Fairways were in great nick, especially considering large portions of them were under water. Similarly the bunkers were nicely sanded except where they were swimming pools. Seemed to be some fluffy bunkers and some harder. Possibly a reflection of which had been overcome by the wet at some point?

PROS

  • Variety
  • Good bunkering
  • Greens have lots of shape and run true, quite fast too
  • Fairways in very good condition (standing water excluded)

Cons

  • Significant water issues when it rains

what a shame…
a recent venture to Bribie GC for a round with our Social Club resulted in a tainted opinion of what was once a beautiful challenging golf course.
unfortunately due to the water table issues arising from moving the council pump station (to the new location up the other end of the Island)the course is inundated with brown tea-tree stained water on every hole. This commonly resulted in balls lost in the middle of the fairway, deep in flooded bunkers or in some cases right next(5ft) to the green.
The worst part of all this is the Pro Shop know the condition, yet when asked stated there was a bit of water on the 1st hole only..!!
I will not be back to this course until the fairways are raised above the water table level(a lot of fill at great expense in an unfortunately fragile marketplace)(I understand why this is cost prohibitive).
a shame that this once beautiful course will never again be the same..

PROS

  • sensational greens

Cons

  • water; dodgy ProShop; water; thick penalising scrub; water

Possibly the most underrated course in SEQ and more than a challenge as not too many holes run gunbarrel straight. Greens are usually quite good and run a little quicker than the average course in the area.

PROS

  • A pure sand base. Bunkers are high quality.

Cons

  • The proshop looks like it was built 100 years ago and they need to get new hire buggies.
  • Pain in the arse to drive to. Road from the Bruce Hwy attracts old coots who drive 20km under the speed limit.

An absolutely glorious day on the links. Great price for a social hit (only $28). Not too many on course so an easy fun day. Nice and flat with only a few par 3s with any elevation changes. Greens actually seemed to slow as the dew dried and the day heated up. Alot of GUR and muddy expanses at the moment due to waterlogging of low areas following all the recent Qld rain. Highly recommend it to players of all levels of ability.

PROS

  • Quiet day no pressure from following groups.
  • Great course without too many difficult fairways for beginners.

Cons

  • Alot of GUR and repairs happening on the day due to waterlogged course. [not really a Con]

first time playing the course, was in top condition, greens and bunker complexes are first class, of course aided by the sand base, enough trees to give definition without overpowering the layout. most impressed. would be happy to recommended and will play again.

Played at Bribie over the Easter weekend. Great time to play as it was very quiet and the weather was perfect. Great course for a beginner like myself as the grounds were soft, fairways nice and open and at a reasonable price. $50 including a kart.
I don’t know if I would play there again so soon as it was not a close drive from North Brissy. Definately a well presented course for those that live around the area.

PROS

  • Soft greens
  • Well-presented surrounds
  • Reasonable price

Played Bribie Island on Cup day. A quality course, well worth the trip. Tight fairways and punishing rough if you stray off them. Like most of SE Qld the greens had been cored a few weeks ago, so did not see them at their best. Most greens have sculptured integrated bunkers that test your shot in and add to the experience. The course was in excellent condition and is highly recommended.

I have played here a few times now and was lucky with little to no rain this weekend there.
A very tight course if you’re not straight of the tee, but some well placed fairway bunkers make it a real challenge, i found this very true with a shocking front 9 but half decent back! Love the course however, over the 2 rounds played this weekend managed to get stuck behind possibly the slowest groups i’ve ever eexperienced…and they had carts!
Besides that found the locals friendly and helpful around the course and with some secret fishing spots hinted around the island as well. Thumbs up!

Recently played 36 holes over 3 days. The greens are just getting over regular coring but rolled very true. There was 2 par 3’s with temporary greens. The course requires straight hitting otherwise you end up in the sandy waste betwseen fairways. Some tight 90 degree holes where you need to hit the fairway to see the green. We stayed at the resort adjacent to the course. Book a penthouse and get a few friends together to share the cost, well worth it. The food was also very good in the clubhouse restaurant and well priced (2x T Bones $30) and not far to walk home (100 metres). Very quite at night.

Fantasic track with top greens and well maintained fairways. I can see why it has been rated so well in the past and it is good to see there are some course improvements taking place also. Unfortunately some of the OLDer Members there that i have been grouped with tend to be quite unwelcomming and Quite sour, thumbs up to all the staff both in the pro shop and clubhouse however.

the layout is quite good, though i can’t say i am a fan of a course that only has water on one hole. the fairways are ok, but nothing special. greens although recently aerated were still quite good, and remarkably true. Have to say though one of the more unwelcoming clubs i’ve played. played in a comp with 2 members. one was quite jovial and friendly. the other was the sourest golfer i’ve come across, and to be honest quite rude. a little more expensive for green&comp fees (for a visitor) than others around brisbane area. would play it again, though only if i was in the area and had nothing else to do.

Well when reading the reviews during the week leading up to playing this coarse, I was unsure what to expect when people were talking about the bunkers that aren’t bunkers but I soon understood.

The main point that stands out to me is the greens and how true they played.

Only played the back 9 but will certainly be back to play the full 18

One of the best course that i have played at great variety and some hole are a bit of a challenge other are simple. Last time that I played there they had the sprinklers on one of the holes so that was fun trying to hit without getting wet, we weren’t very successful

This is a well kept course and is very tight. If you go off the fairway, you will be in trees and standing on sand and your ball will be in the sand (even though you are not in a bunker). Great greens, just lacks elevation changes. Worth playing.

I would have to agree. Bribe is one of the better course in the Sushine Coast region. I have played there many times and although i know the course pretty well it still provides a fun challenge in keeping it straight down the middle with interesting hole placement. I love it and definately reccomend it to others.

Having played it for the first time it is easy to see why Bribie consistantly ranks inside the top 100 Aussie courses.

I have recently played on resort courses who charged over $60 and the quality of their fairways and greens do not even come close to the quality of Bribie and all for $26. The tree lined fairways call for accruacy off the tee but wayward shots are usually found in the sand based hazards amongst the trees. The fairways were lush and offered great lies everytime. The greens were easily the best I have putted on this year and some well placed pin positions made them challenging. The club house is the icing on the cake with it being a great spot to watch ppeople make the same mistakes you have just made at the great finishing hole. I'll never pass up a game there again when offered.

Bribie Island would have to be one of those course that offer all golfers a rewarding experience. A sand based course that is well maintained and grassed, with greens that are a pleasure to putt on. The open well grassed fairways are lined with a mixture of soft sand and trees that seem to capture any wayward shots, and make a good recovery shot a seemingly impossible task. The greens seem to drum as you hit your approach onto them and have enough give to reward the high approach shot. The true putting surface offers a reward to those brave enough to challenge the hole placement. I have found this to be a course that is challenging without being to punishing. Although the trees and the sand do offer the chance to drop a shot the lack of water means that you won't do too many balls.
