Brookwater Golf & Country Club

Brisbane, QLD | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.5) | Add A Review

While golf course development has boomed in recent years in South East Queensland Brisbane has, to a large extent, missed out. Much of that wrong has been righted with the opening of the new Brookwater Golf Club, 28 minutes west of the city.

The course forms a key ingredient in the Springfield Town development and is integrated with a high end golf and real estate development.

Designed by Greg Norman the course has all the ingredients of a Norman design with full face bunkering featuring in a dynamic and dramatic layout. There is considerable relief in terms of topography with many of the holes rolling through tall, mature native vegetation.

Great day, course in top condition, staff friendly and helpful, pity our performance wasn’t up to the occasion, but had fun :-))

The course was great except for the greens, which had been heavily cored and sanded. Won’t be back for at least 6 months it was that bad.

3. lahepeuiw | Rated | 18 Oct 2014 | Add A Review

This course is extremely challenging at the best of times but with cored greens it makes it even more difficult.
Enjoyable but frustrating experience.
Bring plenty of golf balls as mistakes are punished.
Accuracy a must!! Leave the driver in the house.
Slow play appeared to be overbooked.
I would definitely play again but not for a while.
I was abit disappointed that I had to pay an additional $15 dollars for a non playing partner. This was not documented on the website.
A great deal started to become expensive

This course has a big WOW factor
The greens are too slick for my game.
Will play again.

I have only played this magnificent course twice – once just after it opened (off the blacks) and again this Tuesday off the golds. Playing off the blacks gave me a real knowledge of how good this course really is – played terribly but really enjoyed being there. Tuesday played off the gold and found it more fitting to my current level of golf. Although very tough this course is still fair – water is not needed here to make it harder like they have on a lot of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast "resort" courses. Forget about hitting the driver on every hole – there are a couple of holes where being on the correct side of the fairway is an absolute advantage – the 10th comes to mind, you can be on the short stuff hitting it right but will be looking at timber. The staff and service could not be faulted, my mate and I felt very welcomed. I would have to say that I am a great fan of this course and think that it is the best in SE QLD at least and probably in all of QLD.

This is a course that you must have a round.

Great course and beautifully presented.
We played the week before the QLD Open, but I have a feeling the course is presented like that all the time.

The course feels like your own.

This beast never lets you down. Great layout and they have cleaned up in the trees which made finding my "partners" balls easier. Can’t wait to play this course next time I’m in the area. Good luck to the pros this week

Always a pleasure to play at Brookwater. The course was looking a treat and the greens were lightning fast. We will be back

12. AdamBNE | Rated | 30 Jul 2014 | Add A Review

Brilliant course, certainly one of the best I’ve played in Australia. Highest quality greens and fairways and challenging layouts. Can be forgiving at times for wayward drives (plenty of big trees!), but also entirely unforgiving if you miss your mark (undulating fairways and of course those big trees). Really helpful staff and active Marshall’s keeping the groups moving made for a great day.

Brookwater is well priced for the quality of the course and I love that they use iseekgolf to advertise discounts and available tee-off times. Look forward to going back soon.

Played off the silver tees which were moved into the green tee box a few yesterday so the course was playing a little short, though was a beautiful day and the course was in great condition. A great challenge. The banks of the tree lines fairways make the course more forgiving for hackers as I regularly received a lucky ’kick’ back onto the fairway. Best course I’ve played in QLD.

First time visitor to Brookwater Golf & Country Club…..Absolutely Stunning (Saw lots of kangaroos & bird life). The course marshell told me that a Brown Snake had spotted on the course the day before which was unusual for this time of year. This course was picture perfect and I did not want the round to finish, tee,s fairways and greens are fantastic and so they should be for a course of this caliber.I would however recommend that you play the tee,s that suit your handicap.Course staff were friendly and helpful.

This time was geat and Credit to all of them for acknowledging that I was waiting and they let me hit thru! At least 5 holes
Thanks guys keep up the good work, what a great course…

Brookwater is a course that we make sure that we play at least once per year. Really enjoyed the day and the course, but it was very slow. 5 hours in carts for 4 players is at least 30 minutes too long. No sign of any marshals to seed up the groups in front. Teeboxes good, fairways excellent, greens good – a little soft and bumpy if anything but a fair speed.

Very well maintained course, which was both challenging and enjoyable. I found the layout made every hole look very attractive, the greens, fairways and rough were all very well kept and made it enjoyable to play.

It is difficult, without being too hard. Certainly some holes can cause you a problem with a poor shot, but never unfairly and if you think your way around, no holes are so hard that you are glad to get off them.

Friendly staff (especially the lady on the refreshment buggy) and a great clubhouse and shop.

Will return without any doubt.

Course was in great condition, an enjoyable reprieve from many other tracks around Brisbane.

If you’re in to course design then this is a must play. Challenging to the eye but easy on the swing. It simply gets more enjoyable every time.

As is expected with Troon managed courses, the service is top notch. The Pro Shop and bag drop guys are genuinely interested in golf and making the commencement of your round as seamless as possible.

Can’t wait to get back to Brisie again for a hit.

Holy Cow ! What an epic coarse, just beyond the norm & a little further than that. Extreme challenge. Hard coarse but great. At times I thought there were about 3 too many bunkers around almost every green & not your average run-of-the-mill bunkers either, some of these deep & high-walled bunkers actually have steps going down into them !!! Coarse was in great nick & will go back one day, but as it is quite far from my house I think it will be a seldom thing rather than a frequent one. The degree of difficulty is almost of a freakish novelty extreme, but over-all our score-cards were not too severe. A coarse that needs to be played a few times to best work out the right approach. The kind of coarse that messes with your mind. Ha ha ha ha

I had not played at Brookwater since it first opened.

It is a magnificent course with great natural undulations that make the course very interesting.
At first glace the course looks really hard, but if you can get an accurate yardage for approach shots and don’t mind putting away the driver for most of the holes then a decent score can be had.

The course has recently been cored, but the holes had filled in and the fairways were in top condition (but coloured like a leopard). The bunkers were great, it is nice to have soft sand in ample supply.

The green had recently been cored and so were still quite long, but as with the fairways the core damage had repaired itself and the roll was fairly true. The greens were quite slow compared to what I was expecting.

The biggest issue with the whole course and experience was the pitch marks, I fixed at least three on every single green and could have fixed another five on all greens. I don’t blame the course for this, but the slack lazy inconsiderate other golfers who play at Brookwater. Show some respect people! This is a great course and by doing what you should will keep it close to perfect.

You know it’s a great course when you haven’t played well but you still thoroughly enjoy the experience. I thought it would be tough off the tee but not as bad as expected. Your second shot is the toughest. Greens not overly large and well protected by bunkers. Very tricky greens, borrow more than you think. Only a couple greens were a bit bumpy. You’d want to be good at the flop shot. NEVER an easy chip if you miss the green.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. What a golf course. Have played Barnbougle and thought that was as good as it gets. I was wrong. To be fair to barnbougle, it is a links course and Brookwater is not. What a great layout. How did Greg Norman see this course in the bush from nothing??? Will definitely be back.

52. wrejoches | Rated | 23 Dec 2013 | Add A Review

I’ve been trying to get to play here for years now so it was with a lot of expectation that I jumped in the buggy and headed to the first. And it’s fair to say that Brookwater does not disappoint.

It is a tough course. While there is room off the tee once you use it up it gets pretty ugly! There are plenty of hazards and bunkers on the fairways and around the greens. And the green complexes are … well very complex! The greens are usually raise up which leaves some deep bunkers.

The fairways and greens also have a lot of undulations. I personally found that the greens tended to break a lot more than I thought they would. The greens were not super fast when we played but if the ball started breaking down the slope it would run and run.

So it’s a difficult course. Which is a plus.

But an even bigger plus is that this is a beautiful course. Some of the views from the tees are simply spectacular. The par 5 4th in particular. Bit the whole course is a wonderful place to be.

I can’t wait to go back.

PROS

  • A very challenging course. Great driving challenge. Undulating fairways. Very challenging green complexes.
  • Simply a beautiful place to be. Spectacular.

Made the booking through iseekgolf and everything went smoothly. I was entertaining some international clients and the smooth transition from bag drop to check in was impressive. A quick warm up on the first class driving range and we were ready to go.
We selected to play from the black markers as we had 3 × 10’s and a 15 marker in the group. This may have been a little ambitious as we soon found out. The opening hole is a super strong par 4 that requires an accurate drive followed by a short iron to a narrow elevated green surrounded by deep bunkers.
The 2nd hole a nice par 4 but thought to be little unfair as there are 3 trees that you are required to shape around to get your 2nd shot to the green.
The 4th is a superb par 5 that allows you to get between 50-100mts extra on your tee shot with the right bounce going down the valley, before coming an uphill 2nd and 3rd to the green.
The other holes on this 9 are very good even though there is a little room for error and could be classed as a little unfair.
The back nine starts off with a good little par 4 with a tricky green, make sure you are on the same level as the pin here. The 11th is one of my favourites with a dog leg right par 4 the tee shot could be anything from a rescue club to the big dog, first look makes you think play safe and lay back for a full shot in, but the reward for taking the big stick is there as you can get very close to the green as it is all down hill.
The 15th hole is another dog leg right par 4 which comes into a very narrow green from the back tees getting a shot at the green requires your best hit, a tough hole with not much bale out.
The 17th is the best hole on the back nine for mine a par 5 dog leg right which turns right on the drive length, long hitters will need to avoid the deep bunkers, if you can, the reward is a crack at the green which would have to be the best 2nd shot into a par 5 I have played. The smart play here is to lay up to 100 out and try an get close from there. The daring will have to watch the hidden water hazard that sits short right of the green, again deep bunkers surround the green. One of the better par 5’s a have played.
This place is worth a visit just make sure you select the tees that suit your golfing ability

Superb course at a great price through iseekgolf.com. A challenging round finished off with great food and drink at a good price. The staff and presentation of the course are a credit to the club, and although the greens had just gone through the annual renovations and ran a little slow, they ran true. The 18th is a wonderful hole and justifies its stroke one index. The pin position on the day for casual golf was a challenge meaning you had to pull up close or watch in horror as your dainty chip came rolling back to your feet!! In all seriousness, this is a course we look forward to playing again. Worth the flight from Sydney. 5 stars!!

Was too engrossed in admiring the layout and conditioning and forgot to play golf! Greg Norman has put together the toughest layout in QLD here, with narrow and well shaped fairways lined with heavy timber to capture stray shots. The second hole is a long par 4 that will test your moral courage, the risk/reward toll is heavy for those choosing to attack! A great course, in fantastic condition given the recent dry spell and prices are very competitive this summer. If you’re golfing QLD, Brookwater should appear in your top five.

For the first time Team 3 enjoyed a 7am tee off at Brookwater on Monday 11th November. What a great course. Makes you think for the entire 18 holes and for each shot throughout. It’s not just a matter of blasting it off the tee as the rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers make it a test of placement and mental toughness to keep it out of trouble. It just shows you that you don’t have to make the holes longer or have water on every hole to make it a challenging course. I was also surprised to see that other holes are secluded from the hole you are playing on which adds to the mystery of what to endure next. Again a great course and one to which I will be attending again. Team 3 mashing their normal golf opposition – great. Getting a jockey challenge up – awesome. Brookwater for $69 including a cart – priceless.

Spectacular course from those elevated tee’s. The course was in great condition when we played though looking a bit dry after a long spell without rain. This changed on the 14th hole when we got caught in a thunderstorm and the course and our four were thoroughly drenched.

Overall a great day, we will be back to play again, next time hoping to finish the 18 holes.

Like a walk in a national park with kangaroos, frilled neck lizards and birds everywhere, very pretty golf course. Found it very tough, I play off 13 and was happy to break 100 with a 96. Almost every green is raised and if you don’t hit them you will have a tricky chip, miss the fairway and you will have a recovery shot at best most times. Bunkers are extremely deep(some have stairs going down into them!), but, good sand in all. Would love to play again when the course has had some rain and the greens are fully recovered from recent coring.

Had a great golf experience. Very much like Bonville, maybe a bit less penalising with some slightly wayward drives bouncing back onto the fairway. Bunkers were a great test. The greens are recovering well from being cored and my hunch is they were slightly slower than normal, but still ran true.

Reception : met at the course at bagdrop by a very friendly helpful guy who put our clubs on the cart.
Course : a very challenging course. Most fairways are in valleys between the hills which often channels your ball back to the fairway. Good couch grass cover and light rough. Elevation changes and water make for a very interesting layout. Greens looked like they were recently renovated, so not in their prime. Bunkers challenging and in good order.
Cafe & Proshop : friendly staff and lovely view over the course while having a postgame drink.

Having played this course many times and thorourly enjoyed it every time,my last encounter was a dissapointment!

You pay top dollar to go and enjoy yourself! NOT to play a round WITH the Greensman, The Leaf Blower, and The Guys on the tractors…

This happened for 5-6 holes…Not Happy JAN!!!

Had a really great day at this challenging course. Wonderful condition of everything from tee’s to fairways to greens. A true pleasure to play on. Definitely a course that rewards good shots as well as penalising bad ones. It tests ALL aspects of your game which is a great challenge, just because your drive hits the middle of the fairway, doesn’t make the approach into the many small greens any less challenging. Greens were immaculate and a real pleasure to putt on!

PROS

  • Course condition
  • Layout
  • Friendliness of all staff
  • Not super busy for a weekday

Cons

  • Just wish it was a little closer to home

Loved it, loved it, loved it and by the way did I say I loved it.
Queensland’s Bonville. One if the most scenic courses ever.
Great and courteous staff right from bag drop off, pro shop, clubhouse and on the course.
A must play for all levels of ability. Looks tight from the tees, but has to be a really bad shot to be in too much trouble. Most of the damage is done to the score around the greens.

Fantastic use of the natural landscape to create a really challenging layout. For a Norman designed course I was surprised by the smallish size of the greens. With a lot of elevated greens it makes club selection hugely important. There is a genuine need for length off the tee… this course is long.

Course condition was lower than what I would have expected 2-weeks out from holding the Queensland Open. Greens were true, but slow and scarce of full cover in a number of places.

Troon service was well up to what you’d expect. Playing with a couple of very welcoming members (thanks Paul and Will) made for a really enjoyable day.

PROS

  • challenging layout
  • good use of natural landscape

Cons

  • course condition a little below expectation

Absolutely the best golf course. Greens, fairways in superb condition and the sand bunkers even though they are challenging were smooth and the sand the same.. We thoroughly enjoyed our mornings golf and recommend it highly.

I played Brookwater for the second time with my family yesterday, just a fantastic experience, great service from bag drop to great food on the outside terrace. The course was in great condition despite heavy rain in the preceeding days and while as always challenging we all absolutely loved the course (while losing a number of balls to the water on the 8th!)everyone was welcoming and while expensive this truly is a case of you get what you pay for!

Best course I have played. Scenically beautiful and tough. Greens fast and hard to read. Deep bunkers make for an interesting day if you find the sand although the sand it self is fine grain. I thought I had done poorly for my skill level until I spoke to the Pro after the game who said that it is the No.1 rated course in QLD with public access. He went on further to say the QLD open will be held there next month and he would be surprised if anyone comes in under par after the four days.

The support facilities and personnel are still very good although the course had been impacted by recent rains which meant that some of the fairways were pretty muddy and inaccessible with carts. It’s still a great but very challenging course and playing with a group of 15 to 20 markers, we all look forward to cracking a 100 one day. We all got close today.

Great course, excellent country environment, away from traffic and city life and very challenging. Need to be consistently straight-ish AND have a good idea of how far you actually hit the ball with which clubs. Uphill holes…..take an extra club or two – there is virtually NO BUMP & RUN option on this course so distance covered has to be mostly achieved in the air. A great challenge. I played as badly as last time (12 months ago) but I’ll be back for another crack at it next year.

My afternoon at Brookwater was one of the most memorable and enjoyable golfing experiences in my golfing life. I enjoyed the natural beauty of the playing effectively in a national park, and the vistas from every teewere magnificent. Each hole seemed to be framed in tall timber and yet the fairways were generously wide. I was extremely impressed with the layout, Norman has done a brilliant job and if I had topick a signature hole it would be the 551m Par 5, 13th, what a glorious hole.
Being off 10 and around 210-220m off the tee I should have done myself a favour and played off the Gold tees, but being instead I chose the black markers and struggled to hit many of the elevated greens in regulation and became very familiar with the green fringes! The Fairways, greens and fringes were all in excellent shape. The staff were great – very helpful and new their stuff, and overall this is one of the standout experiences for me in my 30 years of golf. I totally recommend this course to everyone visiting the Gold Coast or Brisbane.

Beautiful course however being 3 flights on the same hole many holes in a raw ruined the experience. Marshall should be more involved and put pressure for player to play quicker. The fact that we were a flight of 2 was irrelevant (the answer I got when I complained after 9 holes when we gave up)still 3 flights per hole. Very disappointing and I have the feeling I wasted my money.

As a couple of hackers who haven’t hit a ball for many months it was our first time at Brookwater yesterday and from what we had been told we filled our bags with extra balls to ensure we had enough for the round. It is a tough course but between the two of us we only managed to lose 5 balls. What an awesome course even for hackers. From the time we arrived until after lunch and drinks in the clubhouse we were treated like VIP’s from our arrival to departure. Can not speak more highly of all the staff from Pro Shop to Ground Staff and Clubhouse Staff. We will definately be back soon.

We played yesterday. The weather was good and condition of the course is good though lots of fallen leaves on the fairway made the ball very difficult to be found. The layout of the golf course is excellent and challenging. It’s extremely important to tee off from appropriate tee nd hit accurately or you will face tragic penalty. Even the short rough will bury the balls and you may not see it again. Anyway it is a very challenging course, testing all level of skills. The guys in the reception were very helpful. We would definitely like to play again.

Can’t believe after a huge thunderstorm hits Brisbane, the next day i can play a course which rivals the best in golf. Ironed out of the Queensland bush, the greens were fast and true, fairways were still draining. Glad it was monday, no carts on course took me the time it takes a foursome to go round. 4hrs 15mins. However my first approach after tee shot i walked to my ball with sand bucket in hand. Assess the shot, walk back to cart, choose club, back to ball, play shot, walk back to cart. I felt like i was on tv. Checking every shot, every marker. Then i felt like a tennis player wiping sweat off the head with a beach towel every time i went to the cart. Oh the qld humidity. Loved it and will return soon with the iseekgolf.com site. Love you guys, recommend everyone to your site. Cheers!

Brookwater , Brookwater , the much hyped about BROOKWATER!! Great weather greeted us on what looked like an impressive layout. A shot gun start followed which I don’t particularly like(not the fault of Brookwater). Slightly errand tee shots were severely punished and no real idea what the target lines didn’t help either. The basic hole layouts are not satisfactory for this caliber of course. I don’t believe the game of golf was designed to be only played in a cart – is walking allowed on the course? I guess golf cart revenue is required to pay for the Shark design company. Surely GPS in the carts is a must if there is inadequate distance marking on the course. The difficulty of the course made it a challenge just to keep up to speed so pace of play was a constant challenge and sours the experience when being nudged along the way. Greens posed a fair challenge and a few putts dropped – a slight reprieve. The tee boxes were first class but the ’tree lined undulating’ view from most tee boxes provided little variation from a visual perspective. Thank goodness for all those trees which in some rare instances kept my ball in play ( LUCKY!) Overall a unique playing experience , clearly a world class design company and definitively aimed at penalising errand golf shots. Brookwater 12 – Me 6 ( only scored on 6 holes). Will play again if permitted to walk – doubt that.
Memorable moment – hitting flag with tee ball on 16 ; tap in par.

PROS

  • Loads of shade
  • Tee Boxes
  • Great sand in Bunkers
  • Lush fairways

Cons

  • no GPS in carts
  • limited distance markers on course
  • little variation from Trees

Challenging layout, but the superintendent should be fired. The greens were horrible. Slow and grainy. The tee boxes had a beach under the long grass making stability and tee heights an issue.

Played 2 consecutive days for a Tourney and it didn’t look like the greens were even cut on the 2nd day. It would have been fine if the Tournament was played on the practice green.

One of the carts in our foursome had battery issue and was called in . The cart guy lazily asked to have the two playing partners come down from an elevated tee box and bring their kit to make the switch instead of driving the cart up to where we were. How rude!

I will not recommend the club to others due to lack of customer service. Do people get lazier the farther west you go??

Played The Lost Farm earlier in the week and it makes Brookwater look like the freeway construction you pass through on the way to the course. Total dissapointment.

We were really looking forward to this course on our golding holiday. We turned up early to warm up on the range expecting range balls -but were told we had to pay for them.
We went to the putting green for a put instead – it was cored and sanded heavilly.
We went to the 1st tee (Played the Black tees) – all tee boxes were cored and sanded heavilly.

Drinks cart came by on the 2nd and this was the last chance to get any drinks at 2pm as they were finished.

We enjoyed the layout and the vista’s were all that they were reported to be, but all in all the visit was below par.

We were not advised that the Tees and Greens were under renovation with coring and sanding but were still charged full $$$$ to play. This was a major dissapointment as we probably would have played elsewhere. I will be approaching someone about this and hopefully next visit (I would like to play it again when course condition is normal) will be a better one.

Clubhouse service was excellent when we called in for a drink.

Greens have been spiked and heavily sanded currently. Fairways are always pristine. Greens are in a terrible condition. Putting across sand will cost you 5 or 6 shots easily. Tee boxes also overloaded with sand presently. Was disappointed with greens. If they had been up to the clubs normal standard then course woul have been top notch.

A very good course. If you are a high handicap golfer, don’t let your ambitions and capabilities get confused. Very challenging of the black …. much more suited to a high handicapper of the silver tees. No problems of missing a fairway and getting the next one, as each hole is nicely isolated by solid timber growth and strategic settings.

Visually it’s impossible to fault a course carved through a forest setting like this. In terms of shot values, however…

Norman seems to design courses with shots that he would love to play, with the playability of an amateur coming as an afterthought. Miss your shot by a metre or so and it could be a double, with or without a lost ball. Missed the green on the first par 3 on the front nine by the width of a dinner table and the ball ricocheted down the hill 100 or so meters and was lost! The ninth has a signature Norman green with bunkers eating greedily into the putting surface – how much fun is it putting into a bunker?

The back nine really didn’t keep up the same feeling of playing golf in an isolated forest setting as the front, but maybe that was just the home developments surrounding almost every hole. The course has to pay for itself somehow, but it’s disappointing all the same.

For the price of $95 (a few years ago) I’m unlikely to rush back.

Played Brookwater yesterday for the first time after hearing lots of good reports from golfing buddies and wasn’t disappointed. What a beautiful course carved out of the natural bushland (which I got to see close up on several holes). I think this is a course that will need a couple of rounds before you can play it to your true potential with a few blind tee shots and holes where the position of your tee shot is vital – something you only find out after getting to your ball.
Must admit that despite posting a poor score the course is not as daunting as I was made to believe after talking to others who had played it. With a little course management, which will only come with playing it a couple more times, the course is a fair test, rewarding the well positioned tee shot and punishing the bad one. The greens were fast and true and took a lot more borrow than myself or my playing partner were used to.
The staff were friendly and the clubhouse was a great spot for a couple of drinks and a feed after our round. The only small drawback was the tee boxes. We played off the Gold tees and struggled to find a level, flat area to hit from on several of the tees but this was a small problem when you look up and see a pristine fairway stretching out in front of you that has been carved out of the bush and not a sole to be seen as each hole seems so remote.
A great day which I will be repeating (hopefully not the score) in the near future.

PROS

  • Friendly staff
  • Fast, true greens
  • Natural setting
  • Fairways in great condition
  • Quick round

Cons

  • Bunkers not raked by previous groups
  • Some tee boxes not flat / level

Played on the 18th of november 2012. We sat in our car for 35 mins prior to the tee off time whilst about 80mm of water bucketed down on top of us. We didn’t think we would play, but miraculously, the skied cleared. We thought the course would be ruined, but the drainage on this course is nothing short of amazing. The water didn’t inhibit our play at all really, every now and again we landed in a puddle in the bunker, but we decided at the beginning this would be GUR. This course is immaculately maintained. The pro shop staff were very friendly and courteous. All in all, an excellent experience. The hole designs are very interesting and challenging. Be conservative and you won’t lose to many balls. There were a few 500m+ holes as well, which I really enjoy (My long game is great, my short game is horrible) All in all, highly reccomended!

The previous reviews tell the story. I would add a few other comments mostly good. Have played the course now three times in last month. I’m from the US, play to an 8 handicap, played black tees each time and have played two other courses here in Brisbane area.

I find this course a great challenge. From the black tees you have to hit it straight. Big fades and draws will not play well here. When the course is dry, you can get too much roll making club selection tricky off the tee. On many holes, Norman leaves a spare tree near the fairway (in the fairway on number 2) which again requires good decision making from the tee and the fairway.

My only real complaint about this course are the bunkers. The sand is fine, the design is great. Norman uses high faced bunkers on many holes and this adds to the beauty and visual intimidation. The sloped portion of the bunker is not raked and most faces are slightly crusty. The flat portion of the bunkers are raked. Maintaining even depth of sand in the bunkers is hard enough and I have found the depth of Brookwaters bunkers uneven and difficult to judge. Part of this is the transition from the hard face to the raked bottom. In outher cases, there is only one natural entry point to the trap. This point then always gets raked and has too much sand. I acknowledge that this is a fairly petty complaint but this course is pretty close to perfect and so this is my one issue.

Nice course and well maintained but unfortunately an overzealous, rude course marshall has ensured that our group of 16 will not return again.

With 2 holes to play he rudely abused us for taking too long.
When we asked him who we were holding up (we were leaving the 16th green and the group behind was not even on the tee block) he just aggressively told us we weren’t even trying and to get on with it.

We probably turned over a couple of grand after green fees, food and drinks, but will be taking our business elsewhere next year.

Very unique course, well maintained and beautifully designed with each hole completely independent of the other, like its own little world. Accuracy and course management is key, it will punish you if you are not straight, uphill and downhill holes create new challenges and get used to uneven stances. Very good time, keen to go back as soon as possible. Is the sort of place where you can have a terrible round but still walk off with a huge smile on your face.

It’s is a beautiful course, probably the best in Queensland. The dramatic elevation changes and varied design of the holes is nothing short of spellbinding. There is one hole that takes this idea too far – I don’t like holes where the dog leg in the fairway begins so early that you have to hit a 5 iron of the tee for a par 4, but that is the only blemish I can think of, and others might think of this as a great feature adding variety.

The course is difficult, I have to say. The fairways are not as tight as they look from the tee (clever design makes it look as if you have a ten yard strip to land in, sometimes, when in fact it is never that tight when you get out there to where the ball has landed. The greens are fast, and plenty have some pretty big undulation.

The only real downside to playing here is the pace of play. Because it is difficult, people struggle. Even the guidelines on the buggies assume that a decent round is 4.5 hrs long. If people are encouraged to aim for 4.5 hrs as an acceptable time then it’s no wonder that they actually take 5hrs! The buggy guidelines should be revised to encourage a round in no more than 4hrs.

Played here last weekend. Great layout one of the best i have played, the way it’s carved out through the native scrub makes the course far more mature than it is.
Thought the condition was not quiet as good as some of the Gold Coast resort courses but still very good. Many of the tee’s had poor grass cover but the smallish size of them as well as shade issue’s would be main reasons why.

we played Brookwater Sat 4/08/12 . reception when we arrived is excellent, had our group of 8 organised into carts very efficiently. service in golf shop and cafe excellent.
enjoyed our round, approx 4 hrs 20 mins. course in very good condition, renovating a few bunkers and surrounds of greens.
great course, some very good holes, 1,2, 5, 8, 13, 14, 16. greens are very small targets, biggest challenge of playing the course is hititng the greens. all holes are isolated, no ajoining fairways which adds to the enjoyment. good layout, really enjoyed the day. clubhouse a great spot for a beer afterwards

I have played at Brookwater previously the course is in great condition still hard as ever however this time the level of service was alot better. I found the level of service to be equivalent to a five star hotel very. The person I played golf with on Sunday it was his first visit and he was very impressed with the course, club house and level of service we experienced.

PROS

  • A Championship golf course 20 mins from home at an affordable price.

Cons

  • My game isn't on par with the course!

This course is just what your would expect from a Greg Norman designed golf course: a real test of golf. It has a great variety of holes and some very challenging ones. I would play this course every chance I got. The course was in great condition, considering the amount of rain we have had recently. Service is excellent and the staff make a real effort to ensure you have a good day on and off the course.

I have played here quite a few times now and it never fails to be other than a great golf experience.. The new buggies are nice. This is a beautiful course with every hole being an individual experience. The only negative would be to ask players to attend their divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens- a consequence I guess of the large numbers of "social players" which enjoy the course.

We were very impressed by the design of the course – It made even us novice golfers think about strategy, and I’d imagine it would really challenge good golfers.
I wonder if the shark played here or is happy just to chuckle to himself when he reflects upon how challenging it is for mere mortals.
Once our confidence returns in a few months, we will be back for another try.

As Queenslanders, we should be extremely proud to have a course of such quality. A truly Australian course with a majestic setting of gum trees, waterholes and wildlife. As for the course itself, amazing. You have to be on your A game to have any hope, but what a day.

Incidentally $1.00 cheaper than North Lakes….they( North Lakes ) are kidding themselves….they are not even close

Played Sunday morning (yesterday). Booked through iseek for a 7:30am tee time for 2.
Annoyingly we were booked in with 2 others (good blokes) but I prefer to play with the partner I booked with not strangers. I find this rude when clubs do this.
Course was however in great nick! Played hear plenty of times and almost best I’ve seen it.
Not a course to build your confidence however, be prepared for that.
Not keen to return unless I book a group of 4 in the future.

PROS

First timer. Have been looking forward to playing this course for the last 4 years. I was not disappointed. From the moment I arrived for an early tee time (7.10am) with the warm greeting from the friendly & knowledgable tee master, through to the last hole. The whole of the course was in great shape, the fairways were very evenly cut, the rough was not overly long, and the greens all very even. The grounds crew had gotten ahead of us & had all of the greens cut & rolled before we encountered them. Fairway grass cutters were very helpful with locating our wayward shots off the tee! overall, av great days golf.

PROS

  • Great Service. Good grounds crew. Fairways & greens very even.

Played the course yesterday with a group of friends and it was a great day. The course was in great shape, but a definite challenge for all of us. The fairways were in pristine condition, and the the greens were perfect. Even though it is not good to end up in bunkers, these bunkers were as good as I have played out of.

The course offers plenty of variety and some of the holes are spectacular to behold. Bring plenty of balls, as the course takes many from you as there are no adjoining fairways, and anything that is wayward is quite likely to be lost. The staff give excellent service, as you would expect from a course of its stature.

Would like to return again, but hope my game is up to it. I believed my game was in good shape, but I now know it wasn’t Brookwater good.

PROS

  • Great conditioning
  • Good variety of holes

I played this course on the weekend (sat 12/05) for the third time now, and its easily looking its best. The Course itself is very challenging and you often find yourself trying to hit on a slope and the bunkers are hard to avoid on most holes.

Having said that, its truly a beautiful course, the staff look after you well and on a sunny day, its hard to beat. Just pack a few extra balls…

Always make a big effort to get on to this course whenever I am in brisbane. Pros the individual nature of every hole and the magnificent layout and paying $55 for a round and buggy.
The con is that when I played, the greens had been sanded a week prior and although looking great were virtually impossible to play on because of the extreme slowness. A putting stroke had to replaced with a hit and it had to be out of the middle of the putter. [ hence the cheap price, and I would not want to pay anymore than that with the greens in their current condition. Fortunatly this will be only temporary and they will no doubt get much faster as winter approaches. I would love to play this course with fast greens.

Playing at 9AM on Monday morning was a good decision. The course was empty and we tee’d off as soon as we got there, good service provided by the course and pro shop guys.

We finished off the round in just over 3 hours. It was a bit wet from the night before so greens were a little slow but in great condition. Course is always kept in good nick.

Only downfall was my golf game, but some decent pars and shots out of the bunker topped it off for me.

Would definitely visit again!

Great course in great condition. They will be citing the greens on Sunday so it might be a few weeks before it gets back on track.

Beautiful, picturesque golf course with some challenging holes. My partner and I are used to playing links style courses with long, wide fairways and it was a great change of pace to have to think about which club to take off the tee. You only need to take driver on 4 or 5 holes at Brookwater.

Some of the par 3’s were a bit dinky. Probably not long enough but again, that’s all part of the challenge.

Ensure you have lunch or dinner in the club restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing!

The staff were great too. Very friendly. Very knowledgeable.

An all round great day.

There is a reason this course continually rates in the top aussie courses. It is a beautiful natural layout that can have you seriously questioning your skill level with every shot. Undulating fairways, fast firm greens and natural australian bush that has a knack of swallowing any tee shot that is offline. Service was excellent and the staff friendly and I will be back to challenge myself again, after a little more practice at the range.

Wife on Hcp of 38 and self on 8 played in Jan 2011. Wife had big trouble out of many deep large bunkers. Course fairways are tight, par 5’s are 550 mts off the black tees so take your A game with you. It reminded me of Bonville near Coffs. Greens were generally good even though due for reno next week. If you can keep out of trees & deep large bunkers you will be start to a good score.

Greens were fast but not so bad that you couldn’t leave the ball within a few feet of the cup.

Please golfers repair your pitch marks, it’s great that your standard is such that you create them, but i should only have to repair my own to make a clear putt at the hole.

Beautifully maintained course set in a bushland setting. Undulating fairways which often have your slightly wayward ball coming back to the centre. Typical Norman design; Hard. If you’ve got a decent drive you can make it to the grrens in regulation but most are ridiculously guarded by yawing bunkers. The greens are very well maintained but huge. Just because you hit them doesn’t mean you’ll be up and down in 2. Cetainly on a par with the resort courses up and down the coast from Brisbane; Almost as far though from Brisbane CBD. Could do with some distance markers on the sides of the fairways as I found the marked sprinkler heads few and far between or the numbers rubed off. Very effecient bag drop with the pro shop right next door.

Highly recommended course and a credit to the greenkeeping staff.

Outstanding golf course. This is certainly not one for the slicer or the hooker for that matter. An absolute masterpiece of a golf course in wonderful bushland surroundings. It is unforgiving off the fairways as you are strait into the bush. Normally can’t see any other hole from the one you are on. Greens were generally excellent but a couple had a few issues with blemishes. I am sure they are on to it. Fairways are actually quite kind to a slightly crooked shot as the tend to slope back into the middle.

What a must to do in Brisbane. Forget about the price it is an exceptional course in beauty & extracting the best out of your game. Just to stand on some of the tees and look up the fairway is almost enough without hitting a ball. It requires complete concentration for the whole round and rewards good shots but really punishes those that are slightly off target. Well done Mr NOrman.
Staff & facilities were great from the first contact; cant recommend it enough and will definitely be going back.

This was my first time. Friendly greeting when we dropped our bags off. Staff in all were friendly. The course itself is very well designed. As a 4 h’capper, I think its rather demanding given the mix of contours, elevation and length. The greens however were very sandy & slow. Maybe just my luck that they cored/sanded it recently. Btw, I played of the gold tees and I can imagine off the blacks, it would be a true test. Certainly not for the high handicappers in my opinion. I would return.

219. Garvin | Rated | 18 Oct 2011 | Add A Review

Played yesterday, so on the same day as Dion.

I agree with the animal droppings. The greens had just been ’corded’, I think that is the right spelling and so were very bumpy and sand filled. Had I known about that I would have delayed my visit to Brookwater. The pro shop was very understanding when I asked about it after a few holes and gave me a voucher to return, which was very considerate and I will be back in a month or so when the greens are back to their full glory.

I found the staff, both pro shop and clubhouse, helpful and friendly and a positive for the course.

I liked the course overall and certainly want to return. I do recommend the experience to all, especially if you can get the $69 rate.

The tee design is very good and most tees are elevated above the fairways, with increasing elevation the further back you go. I decided to play off the silver tees for the first time there.

Each hole has four tee blocks for each of their four colour tee markers, so I thought that blacks would be on the furthest tee block, gold second furthest back and so forth, with the jade (ladies) tees being the shortest.

However, I found that on most holes the tees had been moved forward, which I found disappointing. I would prefer to see the tee blocks being a bit larger, which they have room for, and keep the tee colours in their correct box. That way the card matches what a person actually plays when they choose a particular set to play from for the day.

The tee markers could then be moved around the tee blocks so that one area is not being chopped up every day.

I can see that playing from the back tee box on every hole would be a brutal experience and certainly a difficult challenge overall.

On the whole, I recommend the course to all as it is certainly different to most and when the course is back to its full glory it is worthy of its status as a high end, decent course.

If I could make one change to the course, it would be to get rid of the trees in the middle of the second fairway!!!! I had thought from reading the course info that the trees were in the middle of the fairway, but there would be acres of room left or right and it was a case deciding which side to hit for your approach to the green. Not so. It seemed to me that no matter which side of fairway you were on, the trees were a factor, even if you were on the extreme edges of either side of the fairway.

We played last Monday 17/10. We had special $69 because the green is undergoing maintenance. Green is bumpy but we are ok with that. However, we didn’t expect to have to put over animals dirt on almost all 18 greens. And I am not fuss about small amount of dirt, its just part of the beauty of nature.. But there were lots of them…I have to say very dissapointed with the cleanliness of the course.

An extremely challenging course on every hole. One needs to think one’s way round but the course is the best I have ever played on and my son and I just love it each time. We play from the back tees which extends the challenge. The holes are visually very attractive. The course is in very good condition. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

The members did not seem to be too friendly.

Played on a Monday and the course was in great order. I really enjoyed the game without scoring particularly well. My wife on a higher handicap found the course a bit challenging, particularly around the greens.

Played monday 5th sept. The course was in great shape, lush fairways, bunkers (lots of them) full of fine white sand all raked, greens were good but not great. Kangaroos were abundent and the weather was beautiful, which made it that much more enjoyable to play.

Service and helpfullness of pro shop and assistant well excellent. The course was great as we had experienced previously. However, very dissapointed that there was no gps in the carts and no map given. This made an unfamiliar course difficult to manage. Otherwise all was good.

played there several months ago – course was in ok condition despite a few greens being vandalised, a bit unfortunate. the pro shop staff are always courteous. can’t say the same about greens staff. admittedly, i was one of first off the tee, but you’d expect them to call you up or at least move on quickly – they were virtually on every hole of our round. at one stage, we overheard a greenskeeper shouting for us to ’hurry up’! if you’re looking for an early morning game without greenstaff floating around until 10-11am – I’d play elsewhere.

Played Brookwater on 22/9/11.
Second time here and really glad I have another game next week.
This course is a must for any golfer.
Just the scenery is so majestic. It is a pleasure just viewing each hole as it comes into view.
Having to think your way around is different to the courses on gold coast.
I can’t wait to come back.

Having played Brookwater some 12 months ago, l looked forward to returning yesterday. Despite the heavy rain overnight and some showers during the day, l wasn’t disappointed even tolerating keeping carts on paths unfortunately.
The layout remains challenging, bunkering strategic and plenty of water to keep you focussed. Although wet, greens and fairways were in great nick and rough had been cleared a bit, thankyou.
All staff were welcoming and friendly and the cold beer and great food afterwards really enjoyed.

I thought I’d died and gone to heaven: that’s how good it was :)
Not only was the weather perfect but the course condition was excellent and the layout is simply spectacular. Greg Norman excelled with this one – if you want to show an overseas visitor a taste of the bush combined with a great game of golf then this is the place. Fairways are planted with CT2 which is much more cold tolerant, and the TifDwarf greens had been oversown with a winter grass so all very green. The course is tricky from whatever teeboxes you choose and they even tell you which tees suit your handicap. Rather than be put off by getting into trouble all I want to do is go back again and play it better/smarter. Staff were absolutely fantastic, so polite and attentive. The average proshop and clubhouse could learn a lot here. Now to save up again for another round.

Great layout, although the greens were a bit scratchy. The round also took 5 hours, far too slow and not a marshall in sight. The $35 meal vouchers were a scam, only one voucher per 2 people and only for sit down mains in the restaurant between certain hours, none of which was stated on iseekgolf. Very disappointed.

The wife H-30 off the jade tees and and I H-11 off the gold tees played last weekend. Very pretty and a great challenge but the fairways were brown and thin of grass. Not the lush fairways that i thought we`d be playing off. The greens were a little better. It was a quiet Saturday afternoon and we got round in 41/2 hours. Well worth playing once but for $100 i expected the course to be in a better condition.

The round was very slow over 5 hours, no marshall to help speed up play. the condition was ordinary, greens poor and fairways just okay ,certainly not up to the condition of previous games there.
I really cant see how it is at the top of the public axcess rated courses in AU. I have played 5 resort style courses around SE Qld in the last month and Brookwater is in the worst condition and was the slowest to play

Good course , not in top condition though but not bad . Very friendly and helpful staff . Was the slowest round around I have played , 4 and 3/4 hours that I can remember and this is despite a marshall patrpolling the course, must have picked a bad day .
Voucher conditions mean that I was not able to make use of it , conditions should be made more transparent though would still have played the course .

It doesn’t get much better than this! From the friendly helpful staff that greet you on arrival to the picturesque layout, the fairways and greens were in great condition and the bunkers soft and fluffy as they should be when that deep, the greens were also in great condition and run true if you read them correctly.

Remember you don’t need to use a driver off every tee!!!

We finished it off with a beautiful meal off the lunch menu in the restaurant.

Had a great day all round!!!

Great golf course which is very well supported by the Troon golf staff. Every hole offered a good challenge from the tee with the greens protected by very well designed and maintained bunkers. A must for anyone who loves a challenging track. Definetely be one to play again, this time with a course planner and a hit on the range before going out.

I’ve played a number of top rated golf courses in the world (Torey Pines, St. Andrews, Bay Hill) and although I can’t place Brookwater in this category, it would still rank as one of the top 10 or 15 courses that I’ve played worldwide. I’ve been to Augusta and some holes do have that feel. The fact that it is public and affordable (especially weekdays) is added value. By far the best course I’ve played in Australia and I can’t wait to go back.

I’ve now played Brookwater approximately 10 times since it opened some 10 years ago. I love playing there, I play off 12 and must admit to struggling to play to my handicap at Brookwater as it easy to record a couple of big scores if you are inaccurate off the tee. The course layout is magnificent, with some breathtaking holes and challenging greens and bunkers.
I only have a couple of criticisms, the last two times I have played there, the rough around some of the greens has been extremely wet, almost muddy in places. Also, I was disappointed with the presentation of the bunkers, on more than one occasion I found myself in an almost unplayable lie due to the lack of maintenance. I know this is all part of golf, but for the price tag I would expect bunkers to be prepared.

Lovely course, not as difficult as I had been led to believe, although we were playing off the gold or social tees. this was the first time I had played here and the second time I would trim many many shots off my round knowing the holes. My only criticism and it is a biggy for a good golfer is that there was NO DISTANCE MARKERS anywhere on any holes, so every shot was being played with a guesstimate of distance which meant many shots long and short. I believe they once had GPS systems in the carts so that distance problem was allieviated. Also thought Golf Clubs of this prestige would use the BMW’s of carts; the EZGO, as opposed to the Hyundai’s of carts the Club Car!! Overall very impressive and the standout feature was the individuality and isolation of every hole. Well worth it.

I’ve now played some 70 courses Australia wide and after much consideration rate Brookwater as the best and the hardest. We had a group of 8 club golfers and no one did better than 28 points. Greg Norman’s layout is cut into the tall eucalypts with sublime privacy- somewhat of the Bonville appearance but way meaner. Brookwater has a swathe of variety to challenge and tempt you, with changes in elevation, meanering creeks and wickedly undulating greens. You just want to play it again to prove you can do better. Welcoming staff, pleasant clubhouse. If your touring anywhere nearby, play Brookwater!

Fantastic course and very strategically challenging from the back. Not many flat fairways and even great drives down the middle can find side lies which I guess is all part of the challenge. Fairways were a little thin in places (it is winter mind you), and greens have been recently cored and sanded but still worth a visit, but maybe not at full price. Bring lots of balls if you a little wayward off the tee !!!!

Probably more spectacular than Bonville which is a big call. A wonderful layout but by no means overly penal. It’s a course that you will enjoy even more the second time around as you won’t have those nagging doubts on most tees where you are unsure of what really lies ahead. Played from the back in dampish conditions but it wasn’t the monster I expected but I would add that if you aren’t a single figure marker who hits it fairly straight you are going to lose a few balls. The elevation changes, undulations, bunkering and approaches are breathtaking. If you play well you will never feel so rewarded for good shotmaking as you will after playing at Brookwater. It is SPECTACULAR!!

What a great experience! We played off the gold tees on a clear day with the course wet after overnight rain. Greens were soft but great surfaces. Would like to go back when quicker greens & drier fairways, but this didn’t take away from a wonderful day. One of our threesome is an 18 marker who was hesitant to play @ Brookwater as others had said it is too hard for mid/high handicappers. He ended up with 18 points on back nine & wants to return; important to play off tees commensurate with ability/handicap.
Feels like you have course to yourself without any bordering fairways, and the wildlife & tranquility is pleasant.
Emphasis on accuracy and distance control as missing fairways & shortsiding on greens will blowout the scorecard.

My 5th visit and it is more enjoyable every time. Challenging course is not forgiving for high handicappers. Love not having adjoining fairways, it almost feels like you have the course to yourself. Great roller coaster ride through the undulating valleys and lots of elevated tees.

Dissaponting track, made worse by overly wet fairways. Carts on cart path only made it worse – would have had the wrong club 10 times and been 50m from the cart. Easy to see why ranking is sliding.

A recent family holiday, coupled with theme parks and swims, led to a few days to conquer this course…..NOT!The course is in magnificent condition.Great greens, sublime fairways and the choice of 4 tee boxes. But the rough is like nothing I have seen before.Starting as soon as the fairway finishes,it is at best,a ball and a quarter in length. At worst, ankle deep.I’ll do my best to describe it as follows; Not thick enough for your ball to sit on top of;thick enough to not see your ball unless you stand on it!I play off 7,and shot 93.I hit 2 bad shots for the day and lost 4 balls in the rough just off the fairway, and around the greens. They might as well line the fairways with red stakes, and penalise you one shot everytime your ball rolls into it.Oh,it will roll into it!The sloping fairways give a fantastic outlook, but make it nigh impossible for anything other than a perfect drive to stay in play. This type of set up is unnessacary, given the course is a very difficult course to take on anyway.I cant comment on the bunkers,as I didn’t go into any,but they look nice!At $69 a round with a cart, thanks to iseekgolf,I would still recommend you give this course a go.Even if it is just to say "I’ve played the hardest golf course in the land".Go on,I dare you.

Wow what a course Greg has created!!
This was our first trip as a group to Brookwater and we had been warned all about it and to bring heaps of balls!
The course it self is superb. The layout, the greens the bunkering, everything was as good as you could hope for.I recommend any golfer that loves the game to visit as this is a must to play once to just appreciate what can be done with a bit of rolling bushland.
We managed to get a great rate through I seek golf and hopefully will return soon to take on this challenge ,now we know the layout.
The disappointing feature was no GPS in the carts and being the number 1 course in QLD I would have expected this.

Great course but very disappointed with the 5 and a half hour round. Even a phone call to get the course marshal out couldn’t speed the round up. We were lucky to find our tee shots on 18 as it was almost dark. We only managed to putt out because of the light from the nearby clubhouse. Strongly suggest you don’t tee off after lunchtime. Other than that a super golf course especially if you get the cheap discount rate.

Great course. My wife and I are visiting from the UK and this is the second time we have played Brookwater during our several visits to OZ. Unfortunately it had rained the evening before and we had to stay on the path with the buggie. This resulted in a very slow round with all the players on the coures walking to different parts of the faiway carrying several clubs so they could make a club selection.
Still a good challenge and well worth a visit

One can certainly understand why this course is rated so highly.
It is very challenging and even a little intimidating, however it does encourage one to pay attention to every shot, not a bad thing.
The whole feel of the couse is that it belongs to you alone in a very serene and back to nature kind of way which made for a relaxing outing.
Beware though, a lack of concentration will result in a high number, quick as a flash.
Not for the feint hearted.
Impeccably manicured and maintained, the facilities are top class and gives one some insight to what the pro’s have to put up with!!
If you want to spoil yourself, this is a good place to do it.

Fantastic course! Beautiful aesthetics! Pooling on fairways was understandable considering the rain we have had, however the course was mostly playable. Like Gary’s comment, we only turned up due to the fact it was prepaid. Would have been a far better experience if the weather was less prohobitve. A money-back or voucher offer would have been nice. No ground staff was on the course in the afternoon (obviously did all their work in the morning) Club staff and bar staff were extremely polite and helpful. Look forward to experiencing this course again under blue skies!

We played when it was still very damp and it is very annoying to lose a ball in the first cut rough — not the scrub, just a metre off the fairway.
Hopefully that would not happen when they cut the rough back and it is not sodden

Forked out the $$$ to play Brookwater yesterday. The course was in excellent condition considering all the rain over the past couple of weeks.

Was very disappointed with the ground staff and their attitude – I know the opportunities to tend to the course with the wet weather have been limited but they were just a pain in the ass. We were second group out for the morning (7.10am) and for much of the round we had groundsmen on tees, fairways and greens which was frustrating. One guy seemed intent on driving past us, start working, stop and let us play through, then drive past us on the next hole and do it all over again, and again, and again.

The last straw was on the 16th hole Par 3 where there were 2 groundsmen mowing the green. They called us to tee off which we did (not great shots – both in the bunker) but as we were driving up to the green one of the muppets decides he is going to relocate the hole to a new pin position from the front of the green to the back of the green! A 5m bunker shot now changed to a 15m bunker shot. Not impressed at all but he gave us a look that said "I can do whatever I like and you can p*ss off"

I had been a big fan of Brookwater up to this point but dont think I will be lining up to play again with this type of attitude. For the cost I expect a much better experience.

Hello,

This is a comment to Iseekgolf..

I am disappointed that we booked and paid for 3 persons, however, due to the record flooding one of the persons that live in Bundaberg were unable to drive accross the (flash) flooded roads to make it along to the golf game and forfitted their fees.

In addition, the course was extremely wet, pooling water in many locations and the bunkers were unplayable.. Also given the extreme weather, all players should have been given the oportunity to reschedule the game as it was not pleasurable in any stretch of the imagination.. If the green fees were not prepaid we would not have even bothered to turn up or play golf!

I am a resonable person, although I believe under such circumstances a refund could have been given, or at the very least an open voucher to play again post the flooding..

Please advise.

Cheers,
Gary.

Great track even after the ton of rain. Greens a bit bumpy, lots of pitch marks unrepaired. When we played it was ’Carts on Paths Only’, did not realise how inconvienient this was at Brookwater. May as well have walked the course, thats how much walking was involved.

Other than that, great course if your hitting it well.

Here is a course with the WOW factor! The condition of the course was immaculate. Each time we arrive at the next tee, we were amazed at how the holes had been sculpted in the landscape… followed by, how are we going to land the ball on the fairway – not an easy task at times. With plenty of variations in elevation, water and sand hazards, this is not a course for the faint hearted and as casual golfers we found that the best ball approach the ideal format.

On a personal note, I found the staff very helpful and proactive. There was definitely a positive vibe and a sense of pride about the place.

Unfortunately the price means that it will be on rare occasions that I get to play on this wonderful course. However, I think it will be worth it on special occasions to revisit Brookwater for a great golfing experience.

We had arranged to play on a Monday morning which I believed was the smartest idea. Service was top notch as the bag drop servicing and carts were sensational. Coolers, brolly bag covers, green locations were all there.

A group of retirees tee’d off before us but we did not catchup to them until the 16th hole. Each hole is yours and yours alone. The undulating fairways were as forgiving as the Green Bay Packers Defense this season. Make sure you hit a provisional if you think you’re out of bounds. Greens were running true and some of the bunkers were extremely hard to get out of.

We hit around 100 but considering the shark hit 12 over on his first go at this course, I’d be happy to have mid 90s on my next go.

Absolutely fantastic course to play and i’d definitely go back for more!

This was one of two courses played while on holiday in Brisbane from Sydney. I tried contacting via email a couple of times beforehand with no reply. Eventually I spoke to someone on the phone and asked about course conditions given recent comments regarding the greens etc. I was assured that the conditions had "come up very good" after the rain. Unfortunately, the greens, it has to be said were in shocking condition given the reputation of the course. Sure, they may have been cored recently but they were also patchy and awfully slow and bobbled left and right a great deal compared to other greens that had simply been cored.

On the bright side, I really enjoyed the setting and design of the course. First time I’d played anything like it. The fairways were slightly under par but not a big concern. Bunkers await most wayward tee and approach shots. Fairways were narrow. Overall I still enjoyed my game in spite of the greens.

I have to say one more time that the greens are well below par. I was told the course was "renovated" a few weeks ago but given the progress it’s made, I’d say it will be like that for at least a few weeks more. If the conditions had been better, it would have easily been the best course I’ve played.

Great service from the staff from arrival to finish. Saw the drinks cart several times. The fairways were in beautiful condition. A very tough course for someone who hasn’t played there before. You must hit straight all the time. The cart path rule was only onn a few holes and was hardly a problem. The only disappointing things were the condition of the greens and the bunkers. I don’t know when the greens were cored and sanded but by this time of year I though they should have been in better condition. Some of the bunkers has moss growing in them, obviously hadn’t been cared for for some time. I’ll give it another go in a few months but if the greens aren’t any better they won’t see me again.

if you can stay on the fairway all is ok dont think you have to be to long to enjoy this course. the fairways are quite wide the forth hole is spectacular green looks so far away.
had to keep carts on the path not to much of a problem however markers for distance on the cart path would help. Also no drinks cart. would have been nice to be told the greens had bean sanded
All in all a great course cant wait to go back just to know were we are going and give it a real go great at $77 as well well done iseak

People have been complaining about the "cart path only" rules currently at Brookwater, while it is annoying, it’s hardly a huge problem and should not impact on your enjoyment of the course. With the excellent condition of the fairways the rule is obviously working and there for a reason! Besides, most of the fairways are now being opened up again as of 4/10/10 when I played.

Even after the previous few days having a very large amount of rain, the course was in immaculate condition, even the amazing bunkers were somehow dry.

I can highly recommend to anyone a game at Brookwater for the price I paid on ISeek ($77). It really is a beautiful course and even as a high handicapper on the difficult course I still felt I was playing well.

Until now the best courses I have played have been Indooroopilly West and Pelican Waters, I think that Brookwater is really a step above these.

PROS

  • Fairways are perfect
  • Beautiful scenery
  • Helpful staff
  • Great layout

Cons

  • Cart path only rules

I enjoyed the course very much and if I was in the area again, I would play it again. It was misting rain most of the day so cart path only was in effect. Normally this would not be a problem, but for some reason, my Sky Caddie could not find a signal so I had to look for markers and take several clubs. 100, 150 and 200 markers on the cart path would make club selection easier when the carts have to stay on the path.

I thought the club rental was a little steep, but I don’t have any background in this area and I did get a full set of brand new Calloway clubs to use. Since it was raining, a golf towel would have been nice also.

The staff was very helpful and even let me go off early since I had arrived very early doing my 1st ever city train/bus ride in Brisbane.

All in all, a very nice golf outing that I enjoyed a lot. I even saw 6 Kangroos along the way and numerous birds of all kinds.

Look Guys – take a concrete pill and toughen up!
Its world class, and once you realise that, your smiling. For $77, your getting great service, great amenities, a buggy, and a "roller-coaster ride" to boot.
I play off 14 on a tough links track, and played to 26; I lost 5 ProV’s, had two eights and a nine on the card, and had a ball. It is what it is – a chance for us mere mortals to experience what the pro’s do every week.
I’ve played four or five of Norman’s Designs, and this is the best.
The greens are small, but fantastically sculptured. They were thankfully slow when I played, as I missed so many 4-5’ par putts coming back after missing the birdie try it was hard to imagine how many I would have racked up if they were 12 on the stimp and not 8.
Finally, this "Don’t play if your a high handicapper" is rubbish; played with JC, a member off 20 who shot 92 the day before in the medal off the blacks, and he shot nearly 120 – He says EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, IT KICKS YOU IN THE GUTS.
But his two mates play off thirty once a month, and shot 99 and 101 and smiled all the way to the Coronas.
I’d happily play top dollar to play it again.
Enjoy!

Brookwater is a fantastic golf course with plenty of variety, go Greg Norman. If you can hit straight you will have a good day. If you miss the fairway you lose your ball. So for higher handicapped golfers you may want to find a good cheap source of golf balls to avoid wasting 4 dollars every missed fairway.

the course is in great condition and the staff is friendly, however the business of finding a sprinkler cap to get your distance is infuriating enough to take a whole star off my rating of a course that would otherwise get 5 (hint to brookwater). it can take 3-4 minutes driving around to find a damned sprinkler cap, and some don’t even have distances marked on them.

PROS

  • interesting layout
  • great condition
  • friendly, helpful staff

Cons

  • DISTANCE MARKERS
  • angry magpie right on the green on the 16th

If you have not played this course before it is a must on the list to play, very changelling and beautiful course. But peronally I prefer to play courses like Lakelands, Royal Pines, Hope island very pretty but still a bit more open. One more thing do not play after 12.00 you may not have a chance to finish we played it just over 5 hours very slow play due to people looking for balls. My handicap is 14

Fantastic course! We played Sunday afternoon for $77 thanks to iseek golf. Did not see another group on the course the whole round. The scenerey is fantastic. Very challenging course for high handicapper but still loved it. Only downside was lack of distance markers now that the gps have been removed from carts. Will definitely be back again.

No more GPS sux. I think they should review the price.
not being able to drive on the fairways is annoying. Makes a enjoyable 4 hours round into 5 hour effort.

Probably wont go back till they fix a few issues.

Hopefully they read the reviews and listen to the people…

PROS

Cons

  • no more GPS
  • No fairway driving

Totally agree with wenicrasl comments. The inability to drive to your ball etc makes it extremely difficult to FLOW with the round. A real pity.
Is a fantastic course. I played 2 days ago. Beautiful really amazing.
Although, i played with a friend who is off 30 and he hated it.
I guess that is the thing, if you are a high handicapper go to enjoy the surroundings and forget loosing the balls. If you are a single figure of low teen (I am off 10) then enjoy the golf as it truely is a course to behold.

Brookwater USED TO BE my favourite course in Queensland. However, the last few months have seen some annoying changes:

- they have removed the GPS systems from the carts
- the last 3 times I have played we have only been allowed on the cart paths. This means that you need to park the cart, walk to your ball to check the distance, then go back to the cart to select your club before going back to the ball to play your shot.
- distance markers are not on all of the sprinkler heads.

A great course, but will limit my playing there from now on.

played Brookwater the other day for the first time!

The service from the staffwas fantastic, cart was ready to go loaded up my bag and got everything ready to go!

Course was sensational! excellent fairways, greens & tee boxes!
The only let down was the bunkers. Most bunkers where un raked, some very wet & some had the plastic lining showing through!

Apart from that this is one of the best courses I have ever played!
Highly recommend playing this to anyone its up there with courses on the sandbelt!!

Well worth it, fantastic course not dissimilar to Bonville in it’s aesthetics. Greens are challenging and immaculately well kept. Went on a friday morning when there was no-one there, so no delays. Great options from social tees for high handicapper like myself to the black tees. Service and staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Fantastic Course and the staff were outstanding. Friendly welcome – had cart ready and paired me up to make a 3 ball. Good marshalling through the round to keep the field moving and all in all it was a top 10 golfing experience. The course design is stunning with elevation changes and tight fairways – we played from the black tees to make it more interesting and had some great risk/reward shots.

Awesome course, glad I made the trip from Surfers whilst on holiday (about 80min each way). Loved the ’journey through the woods’ and the general absence of houses and other distractions. Pretty much every hole is a postcard and presents its own unique challenges. Very undulating, really cart is mandatory. Not for the faint hearted. Greens were difficult to read for some reason (1st time around here). Regular food cart appearances. Good selection of beers at the clubhouse.

Slight disappointments:

  • Because of rain the night prior, carts were restricted to the cart path. This meant lugging 3-4 clubs around to find your ball.
  • No GPS on carts. This and the above, sometimes meant going back to the cart once you found your ball because you had the distance wrong. Frustrating and a recipe for slow play. Cart showed green pictures and pin zones but no info on where the pin had been placed. A course guide should be provided if this policy continues

Those minor things aside one of the most beautiful, challenging and awe inspiring courses I’ve played anywhere in the world. Comparable to Princetown in Kauai (Hawaii), Red Mountain in Phuket and every bit as good as the National in Cape Schanck – that kind of quality.

Staff are really good, drinks cart was regular and well stocked. Greens and tees showing a little lack of warmer sunshine I think but very playable and I’ll be back. The price at $77 is more than I’d like to pay next time around.

Played Brookwater yesterday for the first time. Great service from arrival to finish. The course was reasonably quiet which was great as we went round in just over 4 hours.

The course is playing really well for the start of winter with the greens holding and it is really worth the effort to play.

The back nine was a bit short off the Gold tees as they had moved forward a fair bit. Apart from that a great day out.

Brookwater is an immaculate course well deserving of its reputation as one of the top few courses in SEQ. The service in the clubhouse is excellent also.

After birdieing the first, reality set in and the full challenge of tackling this course came to bear. You won’t necessarily lose a lot of balls, but the term "unplayable" gathers momentum the furher off centre you go.

GPS have been removed from all carts due to poor signals although my playing partners were having no problems with their SureShots.

A newly printed course guide is helpful without giving away every secret. One 500m par 5 was described as a "birdie opportunity", so take the comments with a grain of salt.

Even with 10 minutes between tee-offs we still took 4:20mins for the round and this included a phone call to the pro shop for course marshall intervention. Tee off after 12:30pm at your peril.

At $100 I won’t call it cheap, but value for money woldn’t be an unfair description.

Probably a must play for the enthusiastic, although anything within a few of your handicap is very well earned in my opinion.

$88 on iseekgolf inc cart was cheap and well worth it. Staff were great, drinks cart regularly came by (which is what should happen, but rarely does on other courses).
I will definitely play there again. I recommend both buying a course guide from the pro shop and taking a NEW refidex. GPS wasn’t updated and got lost. No road signage.

Wow, this is a must play golf course, at least once anyway for the experience. I had been looking forward to playing here for quite sometime. It was worth the wait. Shame my golf wasn’t on song though.

Most holes are beautifully presented, luscious green undulating fairways bordered by the australian bush setting. The fairway bunkers as well as the ones protecting the greens are formidable to say the least. The only slight disapointment was the greens. They seemed a little "fuzzy" and were very slow on the day.

If playing this course for the first time, expect to shoot around 10 over your usual score. Local knowledge is indespensable here even with the course book.

I hope to back many more times.

Played Brookwater on 20th of April, just happened to be when it decided to rain and rain heavily.
The course is BRILLIANT, the service is 5 STARS and even though it rain very heavily and made the course "cart path only", I still had a very enjoyable day.
I will be coming back to Brookwater again and if I ever move to Brisbane this is where I will play my golf.
Wouldn’t get sick of playing it even if I was playing it everyday!

Course was in magnificent condition. Bush setting is superb with majestic gums lining the fairways. Bunkers are deep but well formed so that balls usually roll to the bottom. Although I prefer to walk a course to get a better ’feel’ for distance, etc, this is a course that needs a cart because of the distances between greens and tees. The first time that I played the course each cart had an extensive GPS to assist with distances and layout and even scoring but this was not available this time. Club facilities are first class. A Truly memorable experience.

Very challenging but beautiful. Course in good condition. Can take quite a long time to get around due to the tightness of the course and off fairway bush. Snakes apparently in the area – we were warned by the marshall where two were seen.
It would not be easy to walk due to distance between green and next tee, therefore carts are the only way to play.I would love to play there again in the future.

Played Brookwater for the first time yesterday. Wow !

Great course in great condition.

The 3rd was tougher than it looked, hit your tee shot only as far as you can see. 4th was a good challenge and good looking (like all the holes really) – John Daly would have trouble reaching it in 2. On the 8th I was lucky enough to reach the green in 2, one of the easier holes on the course. 11th was a lot of fun with a blind tee shot to the dog leg right. The 13th was just fantastic – lots of fall down the hill and using the gully with a nice draw to get it as close as you can for a pitch shot on the green – wanted to play this again. 15th was harder than it looked from the tee shot. 17th was another tough one – being right handed fade off the tee and lay up short for another pitch to the green.

You would be doing well to play your handicap here.

Staff were very courteous and even let you know when they would be back again with the drinks cart (not a busy day but still a nice touch)

Excellent overall playing experience – I’ll be back !

Last game before knee surgery so wanted to play a high standard course and it didn’t disappoint! Course was in great condition, all staff helpful (pity there was no drink cart but that was signed before tee-off) and the company was good (Joined with pair behind as group in front weren’t real quick). Only downer was the pair we allowed to play through who then held us up and actually came back at one point to steal the ball from the best drive of the day! That aside, terrific day out at a good rate.

third time here and not getting any better, staff were too busy with the members rolling through, we were rushed onto the 1st tee 15mins early because they overbooked, then copped slow play the whole way around..!! why did they they get rid of the GPS (my favorite quirk on this course) no maps, no distance pegs (had to look for the plates in the fairway) $77 was still a bit steep for our crew, we’ll go back to the more forgiving resort courses for our money. highlight was the 11th short tee to magnificent water carressed green. the other waterways were swampy green with algae.

Played Thursday 1st and got a great deal from iseek for $66. The service was brilliant from the time you arrive til the time you leave. I spoke to the Pro as I hadn’t played there before, he said they had 40mm of rain overnight, so it was cart paths only. He also asked if I wanted to hit off 15 minutes earlier to get in front of the group of 4 that was booked before me, which of course I did.

I was very impressed how the course drained, both fairways and bunkers didn’t show signs of that much rain. There were odd patches that had casual water, but nothing to complain about. Tee boxes were patchy but flat and firm. Fairways were immaculate. Greens were holding because of the rain, which suited me just fine. They still had good pace though.

It was well worth the $10 to get the course guide as it really helped with distance and what club to hit.
I loved the secluded feeling you get when you play Brookwater. Most holes (well, all holes) are lined with trees so you don’t really focus on anything outside the hole, and where your ball should be going.
The bunkering is fantastic, both strategically and aesthetically. The greens have great complexity, although the 10th is a bit over the top. Most tee shots are daunting but rewarding when they are down the middle. There are elevation changes constantly which makes judging distance harder and more crucial.
The course dictates where you have to play the ball, so there isn’t a lot of choice in that regard, but the choices and challenges comes with club selection and distance control.
Lost balls, lots of putts, loved every minute.

  • Challenging

Cons

  • Harsh punishment for loose shots

Played 3 times now. Most of the black/back tees were out of use due to tee block renovations and greens still showing signs of coring.
No longer GPS carts and practice balls no longer included in green fee.

Worth playing if you haven’t but if you can wait, do so esopecially if you like a very tough challenge

Nice enough, but I struggle to see what all of the hype is about. Very tough and quite long, but really there is no set game plan to a course like this. Just smash it and smash it straight or you are screwed.

I cannot believe some people think this is a better course than Royal Queensland.

PROS

  • Very high service.

Cons

  • A course which doesn't really require strategy.

Great course, played after a lot of rain and the course held up well. This has to be one of the best courses around. The fairways were pristine, the bunkers were in good shape despite the rain, and the greens were as good as ever. It is a great course from a strategy viewpoint with penalties being high (Lost ball) if you miss fairway or green, although it seems less so than in the past.

The only criticism is that they have now taken the GPS out of the carts and distance markers seem hard to find. Will definitely play there again soon, I believe it is a great test of where your game is at.

Course was in great shape – fairways, bunkers and greens (although tough placements and very fast greens).

Played a solo round on Feb. 14th; Bag drop and pro shop personnel were friendly and helpful. Course is in good, not great shape, some bunkers not raked. Yardage markers in short supply. Nevertheless, a very pretty and fun course that I would play again.

Played here for the second time only on the 1st of Feb. What a delight for the straight hitters and a nightmare for the wayward!! Luckily the majority of my game on Monday was pretty straight with a spattering of my usual hooks thrown in. The amount of rain we had prior to Monday was heavy but the fairways had drained well. There was a couple of holes that were a bit wet but that was the exception rather than the rule. The greens were in good condition but the bunkers were wet and hard(understandable). The service was great from the team out there but the driving range was closed on the day due to the rain. We arrived an hour early to loosen up on the range but as it was closed we were invited to tee off as soon as we were ready. We had the course to ourselves or so it seemed and enjoyed the day immensely. Great value booking through iSeek.

Played this course 4th Feb and really enjoyable. Not overly difficult if you can hit straight and you will be rewarded with perfect fairway lies. Excellent service upon arrival, but stock up on drinks before heading to the 1st tee as no drinks cart on the course. (Cooler with ice supplied on the cart). Definitely can improve on the distance markers. For first timers you really are forced to purchase the course book for $10, as there are no layout diagrams on score cards, carts or on course.

Played Monday 25th Jan payed $95pp for 4 players with I seek golf was quoted $120pp by Brookwater Pro shop and then find out they have $75pp every Monday with burger and drink included a shame no one told us, maybe I seek golf can look into this. Brookwater course was ok bunkers were wet when the rest of the course was bone dry would be a great course when in good condition but sadly not the case.

Played here on the 22nd of January. Awesome golf course with undulating fairways & large fast greens. Greens needed another couple of weeks torecover from coring. This layout is a very tough test of your golfing ability. I would recommend it to any club golfer to give it a try. Too tough IMO for longer H/cap golfers to play every week.
Realy enjoyed he experience although spoiled a little by lack of drinks cart & being given a golf cart with no pin position card which made it difficult to judge distances on several holes.

Played this course on the 24th of Jan. As a team of three we had been looking forward to it for some time. It lived up to every bit of our hopes. Staff was wonderful, from pick up of our clubs to serving beers at th 19th all was exceptional. The course is stunning, challenging and a pleasure to play off the fairways. A very tough course on which to have a bad day!
Will definitely play again, fantastic experience all round!

Played this fantastic course on the 22 jan 2010..Facilities first class, staff support and treatment excellent on the day..Took advantage of the Cheap rate..Greens a little bumpy as they had only recently been cored but still rated highly. Difficult course if off fairways and if you havent played from sloping fairways of all directions before. Course also difficult if you dont have any guidance. Lack of GPS in carts, free course map or even tee signange would be highly recommended to assist players..After fist few holes found that distance markers were on sprinkler heads but again this can be time consuming to locate. Fairway markers would also be advanatge. Score card with course map would be seen as the cheapest alternative. Pro shop offered to sell a local book but again if one only visit and play course once saw no need to purchase. Played off the gold tees, would love to come back again and play the Challenging course from the black markers.

PROS

  • Free Bucket of range balls, Friendly staff, Practice facilities, Course condiiton

Cons

  • No Drink cart of day we played, lack of guidance of course layout. Vending machines at amenities blocks on course would be advantage

Played on 19th Jan taking advantage of the ISG post green renovation special. Great value for money as a Trooon experience is ofetn not cheap.Wonderfully attentaive staff & first class-current model- hire clubs. I found the course a significant challenge from the black tees. It’s a nice change to have to think your way around a course & not rely solely on the driver from the tee. Putting your ball in the right position is integral & this is often helped by the funnel like nature of many of the fairways. Picturesque surroundings & well maintained fairways & bunkers-even at 7am.. The greens are probably a month away from running true. Truth be told they are probably more accommodating for long approaches in their current state. The course design is magnificent.

Played here on Jan 19 with the ISG special for the green renovations.

Having played another Greg Norman course recently, namely, The Glades, I can say I liked this lay-out much more than its design at Robina which I found very average.

I was welcomed by the bag drop attendant who very professionally and cordially took care of my needs. Very impressed with his service.
The course was in good conditions, especially the front 9 where the fairways were definitely greener then the back nine. Greens were not 100% of course but nicely playable and not creating excessive problems.

This course is a tough one, especially off the black tees. The epitome of tightness. Any stray shot is severely punished, with balls disappearing in the thick rough/vegetation or difficult uphill, downhill, sloping lies as a result of the wayward ball.
A bit too punishing for me to truly be a fun course but surely a great test for any golfer out there. The landscape is very nice too; we were discussing this morning that it’s got a very Australian touch to it, with gum trees and roos roaming around (but not a nuisance as in other courses). It is very hot at Brookwater, really hot, no breeze whatsoever. Be prepared.

What I didn’t like was that without the GPS and a (free) course lay-out map, there’s no way to know what the holes look like. No 200/150/100 post markers that would make life easier, without having to look on the fairway for yardages on drain plugs. Also, very average service without a drinks cart around; from a course of this calibre I would really expect it.

In summary, a very decent golf course worth playing but one time for me is enough. In my opinion there are better courses on The Gold Coast for the money.

What a golf course!!!!

Breathtaking, challenging, rewarding, the sort of lay out that’ll last in your memory long after you sink your last putt.

Luckily for me the greens were on the comeback trail when I played, if they were in top knick I probably would have putt another ten shots on my round.

Every hole keeps you guessing, there’s not a boring fairway or green, it’s simply brilliant.

HIGHLY RECCOMEND.

Had a hit on the 15th. Course is nicely laid out, but only really worth on the low side of around $80ish. There are no maps / plans of what the holes are like – not even on the card.. I’m not sure if they are really wanting people to buy the course guide ? Hired a good set of Calaways, which took a little while to get used to, but they seemed to have a massive sweet spot.
After a few weeks of rain (according to the locals) there wasn’t a drop in many of the creeks / dams.
Greens were recently cored, but didn’t impact us that much. Quite a few decisive holes, but as we weren’t sure where we were hitting many times, it was hard to find, even though the shots were massive and straight.
Poor size of pro shop, and many people waiting to be served. Small bistro / restaurant.
Many bunkers had wet or poor sand.

Course was in great nick and the greens played well. Staff were fantastic and made the round really enjoyable. Only criticism is not that the GPS have been taken off the buggies you have no idea what the holes look like. There are no hole maps at the tees so unless you’ve played there before your teeing off blind.

Played there today and I have to say this is one really tough course. I lost around 10 balls before we got to the 15th, some of them were great shots and on any other course I would have found them but they might have ventured just off the fairway and were suddenly no more. You have to be super straight and accurate with your shots as there is only a small margin for error. Overall the condition of the course was fantastic, greens were rough but thats from general maintenance and should be back to standard in a few weeks. Staff were also very friendly and the loading of our bags onto the cart was a very nice touch.

Be prepared for SLOW play! Whilst this is obviously a great course I did not enjoy my round as it took 5 and 1/2 hours. The staff are oblivious to this (as it seems to happen often) and would rather have a staff member call you "sir" and put your bag on the cart than marshall the course to speed up play!

Beware of the malfunctioning GPS system as well as it can be out by 20 metres!

Great course but for the money they ask this course should be marshalled at all times to fix the slow play!

The course is a "MUST PLAY" for anyone who appreciates well designed courses…Mr Norman has done a fantastic job here, every hole is a picture postcard and the course is very tough from the back tees, drives need to be accurate and then your shots into the greens have to be pinpoint accurate and in the correct places otherwise your in the very deep bunkers.

I will DEFINATLEY be back for another crack.

Only thing I would say is the bushes in front of tees are a bit high as one of the group hit them several times trying to play low punch shots from the tee. Overall, excellent course, I was using a new set of irons for the first time and driver for the second time and would suggest not to do this without plenty of balls.

Fairways were perfect and the greens were quite good. I’m a single figure handicapper and I would have to say that it is the hardest golf layout to play in Australia. If you are not straight off the tee then it can be easy to shoot over 100.

Booked via ISG site on a Thursday morning. Pro shop staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They said they were quiet so we could sneak on whenever we liked. They sorted us out with some range balls so we could have a swing before hand which was cool.

Never played here before and I’m a +17 handicap. We played the gold tees. The course is a beast, the hardest course I have ever played. After losing 2 balls with some nervous swings on the first I took a +6 and I thought it was going to be one of those days! However after that we relaxed and really enjoyed the course. I just played bogey golf because there was no way I was going to be able to score on some of the holes. In the end a few PAR’s and a birdie made for a really enjoyable day.

If you play here make sure you’re driving it straight. Ensure you sand play is up to spec and your putter is working. Fairways are narrow, bunkers were well over my head and the greens fast and true.
Such a great course that makes you THINK!!! You will be rewarded for good shots and pay dearly for poor ones.

If you go away from here disappointed then maybe you should try another sport ;)

Mmmmm, not really sure why people rave about it.

Now played it twice and keep getting punished for shots that aren’t bad. 2nd hole you want to keep it left so hit it there, but the fairway slopes to the right. I have a line to the flag but due to the strong left to right wind I want to start it left…. Problem is there is a great big tree in the middle of the fairway !! OK I’ll bale out to the right ..oh sorry there is a hazard right down the right hand side to the green. No problem I’ll just have to hit a draw around the tree into the wind to keep it on line…yeah right !

There are a few holes like this that penalise good shots, this unfortunately detracts from the rest of what would be a great course.

Hit it in 4 greenside bunkers for 3 plugged lies, you might expect 1 or 2 but they are way too soft.

Played two rounds there now (a year apart), first took 6 hours to get around, second took 5 1/2. That would say that it is way too hard for most players, which is typical of a Norman design.

This is a course that you have to try at least once. It may not be to everyone’s liking – but you won’t find any course like it around Brisbane.

It’s a course that looks nerve-wracking from the tee. The reality is that there is room for errant shots – but that is not always obvious. You will certainly play better the second time around.

Fairways look tight – but aren’t really. Greens are typical Norman-designed madness. Bunkers are deep. A par is a real sense of achievement.

Make sure you play off the right set of tees as it would not be pleasant off the back tees unless you are off a single figure handicap.

The course is in excellent condition. Don’t mind the previous reviews that obviously played when Brisbane was inundated.

Staff are friendly and helpful. My GPS wasn’t working – seems a bit of a waste of technology anyway.

The course was in very good condition considering the recent hot dry winds(played 15/10/09). Was disappointed no one informed of the greens being recently cored and sanded which made green play abismal. Is it still worth $90 if thats the case or $120 at full cost?

It is a great challenge of golf. Stray too far off the short cut and you are dead. High lipped bunkers are loved by Mr Norman and he didn’t disappoint here! The greens ran true.

Geniously Designed by the great white shark. The BEST layout I’ve played and the Black tees definitely tests all parts of the game however……

The Course condition was disappointing as the greens were bumpy and slow with some bare patches, some boggy doesn’t make sense but that’s what it was.

The Pro shop was severely overpriced. A box of Titleist Pro V’s were $105 where at other QLD courses they sell them for $89-95.

Played this course last week and i’m suprised it was open as it had taken a lot of water the 3-4 days prior.

As most of the fairways are sloping I tended to find my ball in an inch deep puddle (when it found the fairway) most holes. It is a magnificent course though, very intimidating but spectacular.

I am a 22 marker and made par on the 1st and was thinking that this course isn’t so bad after all, however I was quickly brought back to earth on the 2nd after a 10….

After just about everyone telling me to take plenty of balls I was prepared and had about 20 in my bag, however only lost 2 so was quite pleased.

All in all I would recommend this course to anybody, great scenery, about 14 signature holes, good clubhouse, GPS carts and friendly staff.

What a fantastic design surely one of Normans best, Such an intimidating course from tee to green. If you stray hit a provisional your balls gone. Given the huge amount of water that roared over this course it is in incredible shape, I would hate to play a course Norman designed during his divorce if Brookwater is an indication of what he is capable off!, Overall this is an excellent course at an excellent price and more than worth the visit.

A bit dissapointed in Brookwater actually. The day started with the marshall informing us the GPS system was down and not working making this type of course even harder to play. Fairways were full of unfilled divots and greens moderately damaged by unrepaired pitch marks and spike marks. For $110 a round i think they could do alot better.

A wonderful golf course that all golfers must play at least once. Each hole is so different and individual and what a challenge. Good luck, had 28 points on first try and told was good. They say signature hole is 13 (i think) but the 4th is amazing to stand on. The green looks like it is a kilometer away. Enjoy. The service from staff was fantastic, Natalie in pro shop and John on the carts.

Great course not the type of course for high markers 18 or above

very good condition well presented and similar to Bonville at Coffs

Harbour,for comparison.definately a cart course..very picturesque.

Played brookwater 29 March and it was fantastic. No issue with the greens, no issue with the staff and even though i booked online they did give me a polo.

An absolutely beautiful course which must be played for the experience alone.

My only concern was with the speed of play (5 1/2hrs) – improved supervision required although we did speak to the marshal on course and we were playing behind a social group.

Played Brookwater Friday 27 Feb.

Was very excited about playing Brookwater after reading reviews here and in magazines. But i was disappointed. The service is typical Troon which is generally very good. Range good, clubhouse good, staff helpful, although this time annoyed that we played full tote odds and didn’t receive the polo shirt that was advertised. Instead received a voucher to receive a polo shirt when i play (and pay full tote) next time. Annoyed.

Waltzed to the practise green and was horrified by the state of the green. Long grass and lumpy, very slow. Not what i was expecting at all. Teed off on the first hole assuming actual greens would be better, but they weren’t. All of them very average. Didn’t look like they had been recently cored or sanded; just not looked after adequately and certainly nothing like you’d expect from a course of this standard.

The layout and design of the course is unquestionably very good and if in mint condition it would be clearly be a great course. When we played it, it wasn’t. Very disappointed.

Played Brookwater on Sat 28/02. Absolutely stunning course. Maybe I should get out more but it’s the best I’ve played. Alas, my game was a tad intimidated by it but as an experience it was amazing. Gorgeous holes, great architecture, friendly drinks cart. Well worth the drive up from the Gold Coast during our annual weekend. Just noted the discounted online fees! bugger.

I must say i found brookwater to be a great challenge playing it from the back tees. I am a 13 handicapper anmd would rate is as one the better courses in queensland but i dont see it as anywhere near the best. My opinion though!

Although i must say i did not see the drinks cart more than once and being a younger generation golfer my girlfriend and i werent made to feel welcome at the golf course.

We played in a comp there and the attitudes of the golfers there were the worst i have seen. I play many golf courses around Australia and the world and find it hard to beleive that for a game that is seriously struggling for younger players and numbers, especially ladies, is putting down the next generation coming through.

We are the future of your game, so if the game is to be played after the “older generations” die out, golfers of all ages, abilities and standards should be made welcome.

Great course, full of stuck up corporates!!

Played here recently and thoroughly enjoyed my round (with new clubs in the bag). It was very testing and even with a straight 250m drive off the tee you could still have a challenging 2nd to the greens. I loved the course and the service. My playing partners lost a few balls, i however found 8 while helping them look for theirs. Not the best round ever but the course is beautiful.

Played here a couple of days ago. Course was in superb condition. Definitely worthy of best course in Qld. This course is tough from tee to green. If you play to your handicap (or better) here on your first visit, you are a legend. If you hit the ball sideways be prepared to lose quite a few balls in either the scrub or a couple of the water hazards lurking nearby.

Staff were extremely welcoming on this occasion and I couldn’t fault the service at all. A tad expensive at $130 a round on the weekend but then probably worth a once off just to say you’ve played here…before it goes private.

Played Brookwater on 21/2. The course had been recently cored and sanded, in talking to one of the local pros is probably about 2 weeks away from ideal playing conditions. In saying that, this course is the best in SEQ (at a minimum). The course challenges you from tee to green on every hole. Every aspect of Brookwater is managed to perfection, Staff were helpful and friendly, course management, GPS carts etc…

You play this course once and you want to go back.

Played Brookwater 20/2/08.

The greens had been cored and fairways dredged (?) about 2-3 weeks ago so overall the course is slowly returning to normal.

This is a beautiful course. Hands down probably the best we’ve played at in the Brisbane area. Staff were friendly and the facilities were five stars.

Yes it is a challenging course but you have quite a few tee off options ranging from the difficult BLACK tees to the more manageable gold, silver or Jade tees.

Bunkers are deep and intimidating but they add so much to the course management puzzle and the overall beauty of each hole.

We played with some mid 20’s Handicappers and they thoroughly enjoyed the round and even managed to par a couple of holes. I would recommend this course for all avid golfers to try – just for the experience!

BRING LOTS OF GOLF BALLS.

PROS

  • 5 Star Facilities
  • Fantastic Course
  • Friendly staff
  • Free Driving range
  • GPS in Carts!

Cons

  • No Drinks Cart on course
  • Green Fees at the high end of the scale

As a keen golfer but wiyh a handicap of 23 i was not sure if I had done the right thing playing here, as I stood on the first tee and looked at the awesome view in front of me.

At the end of 18 holes I need the experience would not be repeated for a long time. Absolutely fantastic golf course. The greens were tough but true, the fairways immaculate and the views awesome.

From the friendly staff that greeted me on arrival to the cold beer at the end of the day …........... it could not have been better.

I encourage all golfers (no matter what your handicap) to play this course.

FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!

Have played this course several times and the layout and design is fantastic. The elevation changes and contouring ensure that few shots are played from a perfectly flat lie and places a premium on distance control and club selection. There are many truly memorable holes and the bunkering is spectacular and, in most cases, very penal. Accuracy is paramount off the tee with every hole bordered by thick scrub and there are no adjoining fairways. As with all Troon courses, the condition and presentation of the course is immaculate. Brookwater is probably the best course in Queensland.

First time i have played the course(h/cap 10).Found course to be quite challenging especially if you don’t hit the ball straight. Make sure you think about your shot selection. A hint for other first timers would be to play with someone who has played the course before or get the cheat sheets and do some course research. Came out with 7 over (off the gold tee boxes)- pretty happy with that.

I played Brookwater 4 weeks ago and, like most previous reviews, agree this course is not for the faint hearted. Playing off the back marks allowed me to use driver on all but 2 holes.Closer tee marks would require a lot of irons/fairway woods to avoid running through doglegs. Drive the ball straight and the course is very playable and scoring was not that difficult with large greens that were very responsive to good iron play. The greens looked a little ragged but rolled beautifully all day. Drive it off line and every hole is potentially a lost ball with no bail out spots off the tee. The service from start to end was great with very friendly/helpful staff. The complimentary use of the driving range, with balls stacked in a pyramid like the pros, was a must to warm up the driver before the daunting task of the first tee. Had been waiting a long time to get there and was not dissapointed. Well worth playing before going private and missing your chance.

This place is great. I plyed here back in March in the middle of the drought so to speak then early September & it was 2 different courses. The conditioning is amazing & the bunkers brutal!

Play on a coolish day as the temperature can get quite high at Springfeild. Its a shame that Brookwater is going private as its a course visitors enjoy & love.

The staff here are great and very understanding that the GPS system that thay have isnt the best in the country let alone the state. I had many readings from a stationary cart – a bit interesting when you pay top dollar for things to work.

An awesome course that will test every aspect of your physical and mental game. If you are beaten mentally early on you will have a bad day! The average golfer (like me) will do well on this course by playing smart all day. No weaknesses in its design, enjoyed every meter and all aspects. It has some of the biggest & meanest bunkers you will ever see.

Despite the fact that this course eats up so many balls and can be frustrating for an 18 handicapper like myself. Brookwater still remains my all time favourite course.

Little things like the complimentary use of the driving range for warm up adds to the whole experience.

It’s a beautiful setting and and the lushness of the fairways and greens are a testament to their water conservation, planning and design when you consider the surrounding area as you drive there is dry and barren.

Recommend utilising the course map.

It’s a shame it’s turning private very soon so I’ll be heading there to get what may possibly be my last opportunity to play this fantastic course.

I found Brookwater to be a really well set out course. I see a lot of people complaining that the course wasn’t a fun experience because it was to difficult too play? I think people that play Brookwater come for the challenge and can appriciate the layout and its features.

At present I’m playing to a 9 handicap, trying to get down to a 5/6 by years end. This aside I still manage 4 pars and 2 birdies on the back nine, and was consistent on the front. I ended up 8 over for the day. This was the first time I play it as well. I think if you a straight hitter and can get some control on your shots Brookwater is one of the best courses QLD has to offer at present. I wouldn’t say its the very best but its up there.

All in all it was a great day. The course was a little wet but I found most greens in reg. If your game play mostly ends up in the rough you will find the course very, very difficult. Its tree central when you head 3m’s in from most fairways. The staff and the experience made me keen to get in a few more rounds before winter sets in. Good playing!

Really a beautiful course. Wish we could have played all of it. The tees were all moved to the front and black gold and white hit from the same box. I'm not a low handicap golfer by any means but that took the driver out of my hands on most holes. I guess I'm just not used to hitting 5 wood off the tees on par 5's! Saw the drink cart on the 2nd hole and never saw it again. For the price and the hype I came away very disappointed with the service. I may try it again but not before checking that the yardages on the card is the yardage you get to play from. Every hole played an average of 30 to 40 meters shorter that the card distances.

Played at Brookwater today and it's fantastic!!!!!

Tee - Most of the tees are elevated which provide very nice view/scenery of the fairway and green. There are four colour tee markers (Black, Gold, White, Green). we didn't want to kill our game so we played off white, but most of them were only 5 meters apart.

Fairway - Superb, lush and divot friendly. A lot of trees and require accurate drive. There are no adjacent fairways so any drifting tee shots will be a lost ball.

Bunkers - Ball magnet, super high bunker wall. This is surely the deepest bunker I've played this far. I'd say some were at least 2 meters deep.

Green - Not in very good condition and pretty slow, bumpy but acceptable and not too tricky.

Overall - This is the best course, in terms of looks difficulty and customer service, I've played in QLD so far. Will definitely go back there if time permits.

Get there early cos driving range is free. Bring heaps of water because there's not much wind and can get very warm... Freaking toilet at the 7th hole is like those in a 5 star hotel! LOL must try hahaha

Just don't put too much pressure on yourself to perform well on this course and enjoy playing golf.

5/5 stars!!!

We made the trip from the Sunshine Coast to play Brookwater in late August during a golf week. My playing partner had played the course in March and raved about continuously since he got home so it was a must play for me. Unfortuneately the day we played there had been a heap of rain over the previous few days (and on the day we played) so the numerous bunkers were hard packed and difficult to get out of. This course is worth playing just to appreciate the course design and the surroundings, but if you are a high handicapper you should give it a miss as it is TOUGH! I play off a 14 in NZ and was pleased to break 100 (I shot 97) but will play it again next time, surely it must get easier. GPS on the carts is great and gives you some idea but this is a course you would need to play more than once to score well.

Expensive, tough but beautiful!

i played at brookwater not long ago and the course is great. standing up on the first tee just gets you excitied to see wats coming up next. the layout and design of the course is one of the best in AUSTRALIA. each hole is individually separated in long hilly valleys. the fairways are very hilly and if you dont hit your ball straight you will be looking in the hazards and bushes because this course is tight. the faiways are nice and green the greens are fast and great. all bunkers have high lips and in some places there is not as much sand. overall this course is one you have to play at!!!!!!!!!!!! the green fees are a bit too much. but for a one off game at a top course you can't get better. you wouldn't play here like every few months or even every year. but like i said a one off isn't bad.

Reading other reviews has been funny. People "down rate" a course because it's hard? It is a hard course however the course design and condition is normally wonderful. I have played it half a dozen times and the condition has varied depending on the weather we have had and how recently the greens have been cored etc... It is a 4 star golf course no doubt, maybe even 4 and a half. If you play a normal members course in the suburbs and have a 18+ handicap, add 10-15 to your normal score and if you do better than that - well done!

Words can not do this great golf course justice. As you stand on every tee you are confronted by a marvellous view which is differant from any other hole before.

From the back markers it is long and if you are off line with your drives you will punished. Although if you hit around the fairway it usually ends back in the middle.

The greens are large, fast and hilly and if the pin placements are difficult, (as they were when we played) expect a few 3 putts.

One critiism is that with the drought the fairways are rock hard and a delicate pitch quickly turns into a scull as the cub head bounces of the ground.

Well worth the money to play the best course in Queensland

Played Brookwater today,

To be honest, great layout and design, but its not all its cracked up to be. For the green fees, course should be in alot better shape.

Greens were great, fairways okay, maybe cut a bit short in places. My biggest gripe would be the bunkers, very high lips (which is fine) but there was no sand in the traps making it next to impossible to get under the ball and get it out cleanly.

Must hit fairways, its that simple, dont have to be long, just on the short stuff.

Nice course, might play it again, but won't go out of my way, I think it has seen alot of traffic with all the hype and is looking a bit worse for wear because of it.

My two cents

443. brisbanedrive | Rated | 10 May 2006 | Add A Review

I played Brrokwater recently and must say that I looked forward to the opportunity. I must say that I left disappointed.

The course is a great challenge, but you must hit on the fairway as there are no adjoining fairways and therefore wayward shots are either lost, or in incredibly bad spots.

The bunkers were in incredibly bad shape and could be considered hard pan. Many courses have this problem, but Brookwaters are also very challenging when in good shape. The cost is quite high and therefore you expect these to be better maintained.

This is probably a great course for the low handicapper, but is too hard for this average golfer.

Well my brother-in-law and I were quite excited at the prospect of playing this much revered Greg Norman course and were happy to shell out the top dollar green fees for the opportunity.

However, when we started to play the course and were presented with ungroomed and, let's face it, poorly maintained bunkers, some of the shine came off. When I asked one of the staff whether they had bunker grooming equipment he simply said they were too busy as they would have to do that on top of everything else! Well excuse me!

Obviously this is a very tough course and my skills were certainly left wanting, particularly as we were faced with 40 plus degree temperature which made it that much tougher.

So, whilst we enjoyed it we were not left with much of a desire t o return thinking it one of those courses everyone should play but not one you would rush back to.

Played at Brookwater early last week and was most impressed. Troon golf have taken the golfing experience to a higher level. The layout looks like it has been well established as the courses winds through some heavy bushland. Very challenging course however, as off the fairway is generally lost ball. Fanastic condition of the course however, and bunkers surround the 18th hole like the course doesn't want you to leave. A+

Having not played a course before that had graining greens, it was an experience to putt on these greens. I consider myself a good putter, but got found out on these greens as the grain takes control of your ball! You have to belt the ball up grain, tap them down grain and across grain aim high to make sure that the ball does not break too much. I play off 11 and shot 85 off the stick, played quite well considering I never lost a ball, but, putting was the main problem too many 3 putts. I was told that the course is too hard, but providing you can keep it in play, it is not really that hard. The fairways I believe was the only downfall. The grass covering was not that great, probably due to the drought, but the fairways are cut too short I believe, and you tend to get tight lies. Probaly okay for the pros but for the average golf, not the best of lies! The staff are great, they take your bag when you turn up, you get to use the driving range with free balls. Service can not be faulted, I recommend playing here and I hope one day I can get back to play as I leave in Nth Qld. Thanks Brookwater well done, but lift you mower blades 10 mm.

This golf course, despite being extremely difficult, is an absolute joy to play on and I can't wait to play here again.

I played here twice last year and my friend and Ieven though I shot something ridiculous, and I'll tell you -138 or something, I loved it. Sure, there were times where I thought it was hard but all you have to do is step back and take this magnificent course in. It might not help you play better, but you'll enjoy the experience more - and this is what Brookwater is - a truely unforgettable experience.

I'm playing better golf now and have a handicap (about 22) so look forward to going back and trying to crack 100 (not in the cricket sense).

The layout is amazing. Every hole is just you and the golf course - no players, just, you, the wilderness, the animals, the mist and the echo od the ball - an amzing sensory experience. And the colour gps golf carts are a really nice added touch.

Play here. No..don't. Keep it a secret.

I turned up at Brookwater full of excitement, having purchased a new set of clubs only the day before. Due to an errant friend, we couldn't get there early enough to use the range. This you MUST do to warm up and make sure you hit straight. As other reviewers have noted, you go a few metres off the fairway, you curse and reach for yet another ball.

The course design is hard, with a knowledge of your skills vital. Sharp doglegs and hazards requirinf you to lay up, or take another drop. The bunkers are deep. Both my friends distressed this point to where one sand wedge seemed to bear wings...

The staff here are awesome. The GPS buggies tell you distance to pin (ours was off due to pins not being on the green where the computer put them), keep your score... An awesome idea you will love, and it keeps your score! (Note to the maker, a cheat and mulligan option would be really appreciate on this kind of course!)

I do enjoy a challenge, but for 90+ handicappers you just gotta look elsewhere. There are prettier courses out there, and not made for the skill of a PGA pro. Enter at your own risk!

Great visual golf course but not for the faint of heart or inaccurate!!

Not a course which favours any one kind of player but if you don't hit the ball longer than average and straight you will struggle to score well no matter what ur handicap.

For $110 I can think of better ways to spend 5 hours as when we played it was at least that long with lots of delays.

However, I would recommend it to anyone as it gives the general player a sense of what the pros go through every week and gives you much appreciation to Normans design skills.

I have played the course twice and play of a 16 handicap. The second time was in the rain.

The first time I played mainly irons off the tee including the par fives and was happy to be on for three or four. At one stage I hit 3 five irons and was either on or near the green.

The staff have been most helpful and the last time they allowed us a buggy each.

I was one over my handicap the first time.

The second game was three days after 14inches of rain in 12 hours. The course was quite playable apart from the odd ball lost in the water filled bunker.

I will play this course any time that I am visiting Queensland.

Ok,

The course is 5 stars for look, lies, and service. Everything you expect from Troon Golf. As a package it is great.

But, for playability, it is very, very, very, very hard.

Par is an achievement, sometimes just a fluke. I have had birdie putts here, so you can get them. But the greens are unbelievably difficult. You can hit the greens in regulation and easily still three putt.

The greens border on rediculous.

If you can drive the ball 5 metres either side of where you aim, and if you can hit your irons like darts then this is the place for you. And your probably playing pro golf.

If you are a sub 10 marker you will probably shoot close to 85+. A 10-15 then you will chalk up 95+ and 15 to 20 you will total 110+.

Look, it's got the best amenities and views I've ever seen. But you'll walk away feeling like you can't play golf at all. But you also think that you can play any other course you try.

I enjoyed the experience but I would not pay $110 a round again until I turn pro...

This would though be the best Ambrose course ever.

If you want to know exactly how good your game is, this course will tell you the hard truth.

I know what happened to the dinosaurs!

They buried them under the greens at Brookwater!

Take the second for example. I'm sure they've got a T Rex under there.

This course is tough enough on the tee but hit it to the wrong part of the green and you can guaranatee yourself a three putt.

In many ways they have made this track too hard. The local rule applying to lost balls goes against the rules of golf but is the only way to guarantee a decent pace for the round.

If your strength is recovery shots then forget about turning up to this course as the design has completely eliminated that facet of the game. In other words, miss the fairways and your dead.

There's lots of "wow" holes on this course but it's not the sort of track that anyone would ever call home.

Great for a visit as it makes your own course seem a lot fairer.

What a course! I have played this 4 times now and am going back again next week - I am either crazy or just plain sick. It's a great course and the layout where every hole is it's own little island is great, but don't stray or you will pay. And give it a few more years for the scrub just of the fairways to mature and you will really pay.

What's up with Norman? That 4th Hole, the Par 5, 545m is bordering on insane. I have birdie it once and really been punished every other time. It's a really dramatic hole and not easy!

You shoot from the blocks, a drive down the hill that hopefully lands on the fairway in a shallow valley surrounded by a number of fierce looking bunkers.

At the bottom of the hill, there is a gully (no fairway) before the fairway rises steeply up the hill to the right.

The beginning of the green is pitched steeply and guarded by bunkers both front right and back making it very difficult to reach. The bunkers on the front right are among the most dramatic on the course, and deep. We lost a player in there with the rest of the group standing on the green (we couldn't see him).

Another troon course and another beauty. The new clubhouse is a winner, for a cool ale or three afterwards and the staff can't do enough to help you.

Definately worth the time, money and effort.

I played this stunning golf course August 2002 and am itching to get back there again soon. I played from the back tees, expecting that it would be a challenge. I ususally have no troubles from the tips, as I'm a 4 handicap.

This is not a course to go for everything off the tee. There are no adjacent holes, nor safe misses and the rough is quite punitive. Brookwater places a premium on finding the right landing area from the tee if you are to have any hope of attacking the pin. I found trouble off the tee on several holes on the first nine, which ruined my score. Once I settled into the round I found the layout tough, but playable. Each par is an achievement. Several of the holes are simply spectacular, such as the 11th & 13th.

I have played other Troon courses in the USA and also The Vintage here in Australia. Brookwater is a much more natural experience than most, with very little intrusion from the residential development. There is very little intrusion from other players either, given the out and back layout.

I can thoroughly recommend it as worth playing. The price is quite reasonable for the quality and test that it presents.

I played the course from the Gold Tees and really enjoyed the fact that the positioning of bunkers and course layout required you to think your way around the course. Being a reasonably long hitter it is rare that I play a 500+m par five using irons only. The greens and fairways were in superb condition. The bunkers I ended up in were challenging but fair. The course design is magnificent and really adds to the golfing experience. Facilities are good, including a good practice range that sets you up for what you are about to experience.

I think that this is the first time that I spent much of my playing time contemplating how I could possibly return quickly to play this wonderful course again.

I played it of the gold tees which was just perfect for my standard of golf. I agree entirely with the author of this site's official review that you need to play from the correct tees. I would not have enjoyed the course nearly as much if I had played from the back tees. The course can be quite difficult and it is vital to get off the tees well. Fortunately I played my best golf, of the four courses I visited, here. The outlook from the par 5 fourth hole's tees were just breathtaking.

The clubhouse was temporary and acceptable. The welcome and service first class. The food experienced by me were somewhat below par with the sandwiches available on the course very ordinary but this is perhaps a trivial complaint and should not stop anybody from going there.

Off the back markers it plays long, but the greens have been quite soft on each occasion I have played there so stopping long irons is no problem. This does tale away from the challenge a bit.

Beautiful setting (a little like Bonville) that gives you the feeling that your group is the only one on the course.

You will not have too much trouble with the breeze at any time, so what you see is what you get. This helps if it is your first round there, and it helps with your confidence when playing approach shots.

Having now ponied up the $ to play Brookwater 3 times by choice and once against my better judgement it scares me to think how familiar I am with this gorgeous course. :)

The design of 2 separate loops creates a course where every hole is yours alone, totally isolated from others and really adds to the appeal of the course.

Makes no mistake it's a scary course as there's no corresponding fairway to save your lovely slice or wicked hook, but the illusion that the fairways are tight is just that. An illusion, the landing areas are quite good and the valley-type nature of a lot of the fairways has a good gathering effect that funnel shots back towards the short grass.

Elevation changes also play a big part and make for some spectacular holes that look like massive valleys of green just waiting for you to place a great drive into. In paticular the par-5 13th is one of the most spectacular holes and you have to play to see it alone.

The fairways and greens are fantastic and well above par ('scuse the pun) from other local courses as per the Troon experience.

When I first played 1 month after it's opening the greens were very firm and reallly fast, but they have since softened (only a smidge) and roll extremely true.

The Troon service is excellent with bag drop, free range balls/tess and nice personal first tee service. Typical to Troon is the explanations of the days tee positions, which are also marked inside the carts. ie. 1-4. Drink/food service during the game is also excellent with the staff being both unobtrusive whilst you play but also extremely firednly when marshalls do their rounds.

One point I should make is that bushland sorrounding the fairways is now treated a hazard to assist in speeding play, ie. play a provisional if you think you've gone bushside. Effectively you should think of each hole being surrounded by water. :) There. Doesn't that make you want to play here even more!

Overall this is an excellent course at a excellent price and more than worth the visit. Expecially if you can book through iseekgolf!
