Has improved quite a lot based on the previous reviews I see
here. There is now a water recycling facility which makes course
condition less of an issue. Interesting mix of holes and lack of
tall trees means that you can afford to drive relatively wayward
and still be able to have a chance of making par.
Nice mix of holes which requires length, intelligence and the
ability to be able to make some more interesting shots (can be
windy sometimes and course undulates at some points). Overall,
very nice course.
I am a big fan of this course, right from the first hole. It
requires you to use most of your clubs throughout the day.
Fairways and greens have always been in good condition when I
have had a chance to get down there.
I don't think length is an issue. Some holes require a nice
hit with the big dog, and most others are very reachable without.
However, the air seems to get heavier than usual there in the
winter, and you will need to take a club or two extra, or you
will fall short of the green.
I look forward to my next outing there.
Having played here intermittently for over 10 years it is a
delight to report that the course has improved out of sight!
So much so I committed to becoming a member this year, yes
it's a long course and a test of stamina, on windy days it
can be a beast, but overall a course that is continuing to
This course is great. 10 years ago this course was a shocker. But
now it is frab.
The ground staff have done a great job. I mean it is no perfect
but it is one long course. The staff are nice and give a helping
hand. When I played there last the new fairways on 14 and 15 had
just been open after being closed for about 1 month. They were
supposed to be open in march, but they were 2 months ahead of
time. And they have come up great. I suggest u play this course
if u want a challenge for length.
Looking at the previous review of this course, I was compelled to
write this to defend the course. I played the Craigieburn layout
for the first time and I was surprised that the course is a lot
better than stated in the previous review. There seems to be a
lot of work being done on this course and the fairways are of
quite reasonable condition, some of the holes have had fairways
fully reseeded. There is still some holes currently being
reconstructed, but the course has potential. The greens are of
good standard and are quite true and fast. There is a combination
of flat holes and undulating holes and is quite enjoyable course.
1st - a 300m dogleg to the right uphill tee shot then down a
gully is a great hole, there is no brown greens here.
8th - a long 407m hole that doglegs to the left with a tough
green where anything over is punished by a 5 metre slope at the
9th - a good 370m uphill dogleg to the right, it is an exciting
tee shot with OOB to the right.
12th - a mammoth par 5 of 496m, all shots are very challenging in
the overall scheme of the design, a slight dogleg to the left,
OOB to the left, second shot downhill and a green that has OOB at
the back and a pond to the right.
18th - a very short 120m downhill par 3 over the creek to a very
undulating green, a easy finish but a spectacular tee shot. Very
easy to misjudge and over or under hit into trouble, also a very
tough downhill put.
14th - Why would someone design a 430m par 4 hole when it is dead
flat and into the wind, this hole should be reduced in length.
1st - The fact it's hole routing is the east, the tee shot at
7:00am in the morning is very tough with the sun in your face and
affecting your view.
Overall this is a very good course, I was worried when reading
the Undertakers review when my playing partners organised a game
here. But at 6142m par 72 (ACR73) it is a long public course, but
I found the fairways are quite wide and you get a bit of run on
them, and most lies on them were good. There is a lot of
potential, and seems like there is work being done to improve the
course. However there are no bunkers, there seems that there was
bunkers, but there are a lot of grass bunkers.
For $22 for 18 on the weekend and $14 for 18 on weekdays it is
reasonable value for a challenging round of golf.
This course has to be by far the worst course that I have ever
played (Nov/Dec 04). The green on the 1st hole was brown dead
grass. No signage anywhere advising the golfer where the tees
The fairway reminded me of a farm paddock that has just been
Even if this was the only course left on earth, I would not play
To some I may seem harsh, but I believe in being truthful.
