I've carried a 1 and 2 iron in my bag almost constantly for the last 20 years and more and more often the people I am playing with are adding hybrids to their bags to replace their long irons. Pride made me hold off until about a month ago when I decided I had to try one to see what the fuss was about. I borrowed a 16° TaylorMade rescue with a steel shaft from a mate for a few days but didn't like the look of it at all, it went ok but it was just bloody ugly. Another mate has a 19° Hogan CFT so I ditched my 2 iron for a few days and tried it out and I found it great. The course I regularly play at has a few holes where hitting driver or even 3 wood off the tee is a bit risky if not downright foolish and I found the Hogan CFT much easier to use on these holes than my normal 2 iron. On the back nine there is a par 5 that for me is generally a driver then 1 or 2 iron affair but with the long irons I have aways struggled to not roll off the back off the green. With the hybrid I knocked one up there and with the higher ball flight was happy to see it "stick". Seeing as it was a practice round I dropped a few more balls and knocked them all on the green, that was it for me, I ordered one as soon as I got home.
Now I am on the lookout for one at 17° to replace my 1 iron I like the 19° club so much. Who knows, I may even end up ditching my three iron as well.
I needed something between my three iron and three wood for longer apraoaches and upwind par-3s.
Having played with Hogan Apex irons for a few years when younger, I tried and liked the look and feel of the Hybrid. I hit my 3 iron around 180-190m and the #1 Hybrid now covers the 190-210m range (previously a choked 3 wood).
The club also does a great job as a recovery iron from under trees - good momentum and easy to control when choked down the shaft. very glad I bought this one.
Ben Hogan CFT Edge Hybrid #3
I purchased this club because long irons have always been difficult for me to use.
The club has excellent balance and provides versatility with various types of shots being able to be played.
If you are a player who struggles with the longer irons then do yourself and make the switch to the Ben Hogan hybrids.

I wanted to like these hybrids, especially with the swanky speed slot and nice headcover, but unfortunately it was hook city for me. Never came to grips with the club and lost confidence in them. Good for bump and run chips though.
