Wilson Staff Di9 (Irons)

Wilson Staff | Irons | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.5) | Add A Review

The Di9 iron features an increased hosel length, yielding a higher MOI and more stable head, marking Wilson Staff’s highest MOI iron on the market. The toe-friendly cavity design expands the club’s sweet spot toward the toe and shifts the center of gravity toward the outside of the head for increased forgiveness.

To minimise vibrations on mis-hits, the Di9 irons feature a soft urethane shock-trap inserted into the heel of the club for stability. Wilson Staff’s patented Wide-Tip Technology shafts prevent the club head from twisting on off-center hits, while the lightweight shafts deliver higher club head speed for further distance. At 99 grams, this is the lightest wide-tip shaft that Wilson Golf has ever produced.

The Di9 features Wilson Staff’s innovative distance gapping system, a 3.5 degree loft strategy. Most irons on the market have small, two degree gaps in longer irons, but up to six degree gaps in short irons. The Di9 iron configuration incorporates a Second Gap, or Approach Wedge, to ensure smooth gapping among the shorter irons and consistent yardage gaps between clubs.

Suggested list price for the Di9 series is US$849.99 for steel shafts and US$999.99 for graphite shafts.

Just purchased a set of DI9 Irons fitted with V2 Graphite shafts, and value for money. YES THEY ARE. Beautiful balance club and very good on the eye, nice high ball loft with out a lot of effort. If you are looking a purchasing a set of new irons these are well worth a look, and at a far better price than the Callaway, Taylor made, and co, these are Wilson Staff top of the range clubs. Great to hit.

I played with a beat-up set of Callaway X16 irons which served me well. When it was time to upgrade, I had my heart set on a new set of ’Big Bertha’ irons.
Like so many golfers starting out, you were (and still are) made to feel inferior if you didn’t use the big-name brands (Callaway, Taylor Made, Titleist etc) like the low handicap or scratch players so it was only natural that I would stay with what I knew so well.
However, when I dropped in to the golf store, they didn’t have the ’Big Bertha’ on display at that time so during a browse and a word with the sales guy, I tried out the Wilson DI9 irons to kill a bit of time. WOW! I couldn’t believe how good they felt. A vast improvement on my old X16’s. Admittedly, they did have the graphite shafts which I’ve never used before in irons.
The feel is fantastic. More to the point, its the lack of feel when you hit the sweet spot. You will know when that happens because its like hitting cotton wool – no vibration. No noise. Even off centre, they still feel good and are certainly forgiving.
Consequently, after half hour, I had forgot about the Callaway ’Big Bertha’ sticks and went home with the DI9’s. I’ve never looked back and saving $300 only sweetened the whole experience.
If you’re one of those guys that thinks they have the best equipment because it has a big name brand stamped on it, think again. You may have been able to convince your spouse you have the best after spending the holiday money on the set but you certainly wont convince me.
