The Canary Islands play host to this week's Spanish Open when the Golf Costa Adeje is the venue for the 1,750,000 euro event.
The prolific Spanish designer Pepe Gancedo designed the course although his work is hardly known outside of his homeland or for that matter, southern Europe. It was developed in 1998 and will be the first time it has been used as a venue for a European Tour event.
Defending champion is Sergio Garcia who claimed his first victory as a professional in his homeland here last year at the El Cortijo Club de Campo. Other recent winners include Robert Karlsson, Brian Davis and Jarmo Sandelin.
An early entry list sees Garcia, Jose Maria Olazabal, Phillip Price, Paul McGinley, Brian Davis, Seve Ballesteros, Ricardo Gonzalez, Robert Karlsson and Bradley Dredge amongst those expected to tee it up.
Australasians at this stage include Jarrod Moseley, Richard Green, Peter Fowler, Terry Price, Stephen Scahill, Brett Rumford, Scott Gardiner and Lucas Parsons, although this could well change by Thursday.
