The Ladies European Tour finally gets under way again this week, more than two months after its last event, the Women's Australian Open.
The Tenerife Ladies Open brings professional golf to the Canary Islands for the second consecutive week following the staging of the Canarias Open de Espana last week. The tournament is to be played at the Golf las Americas course at the Las Americas resort on the island of Tenerife.
Raquel Carriedo was the winner in 2002 but as she is in her rookie season on the USLPGA Tour, she will be in Virginia this week.
Australians Rachel Duncan, Tamara Hyett, Cherie Byrnes, Karen Lunn, Rebecca Stevenson, Sarah Douglas and Corinne Dibnah are in the first round draw as are New Zealanders Kylie Wilson, Pam Sowden, Gina Scott and Lynette Brooky.
The event carries prizemoney of 165,000 euros or $A300,000. Favourites to win the event are Paula Marti, Iben Tinning or Karen Icher.
