Bouvier retains lead by four strokes at SA PGA

IN: News | Von Nida | South Australian PGA Championship (2003) | Round Two | 08 May 2003

Stuart Bouvier has retained his lead after the completion of the second round of the Schweppes SA PGA Championship.

His 62,64 gives him a four shot buffer over the ever improving young SA professional Wade Ormsby on 66,64.

A previous winner of this championship and the SA Open, Bouvier has found form this week, and is comfortably placed to secure his first win on the Von Nida Tour.

Equal first round leader Jens Nilsson plummeted down the leaderboard after a very disappointing three over par 74.

Victorian Marcus Fraser 65,67 looms menacingly in third position, and along with Ormsby, appears to pose the biggest threat to Bouvier for the title. The rookies versus the experienced campaigner should provide spectators with an interesting battle.

Kenny Druce, after a barren period in recent times, showed his class with a second round 64, to give him a great opportunity to contend over the final rounds.

New Zealander Carl Brooking has also felt the lean times in golf lately, and he would be delighted with his consecutive 67's, which places him in a group comprising Justin Cooper, Ian Edwards, Nigel Spence, Adrian Percey and Leith Wastle on eight under 134.

The shock result of the day came from local Gary Simpson, who has learned his golf on The Vines course. Simpson failed to make the halfway cut, much to the disappointment of his huge following of fans. Not participating in the final rounds will allow him time to make last minute preparations for his wedding this Saturday.

Low scoring is expected to continue over next two days, but players are aware that pin positions thus far have not been too difficult. Expect that to change. Full scores will be posted when available
