Wire to wire victory for Bouvier at SA PGA

Stuart Bouvier completed a wire to wire victory in the Schweppes South Australian PGA Championship at The Vines Golf Club today, but not without some anxious moments near the end of the tournament, when he bogeyed the final two holes.

His 16 under total was one clear of Scott Hend who returned a 67 to move up the leaderboard, and give Bouvier a scare. A three putt bogey on sixteen ended his chances of putting real pressure on the leader.

Young hopefuls Wade Ormsby and Marcus Fraser had disappointing days, unable to exert any pressure on Bouvier. A string of early bogeys to Fraser and a significant error by Ormsby at the par five fifth, where his second shot cleared the green and finished approximately 80 metres from the pin in deep rough, ended any chance of an early challenge.

Bouvier was icy cool throughout the round as he searched for his first significant victory since winning the Ford SA Open at Kooyonga in 1998. He made wise club selections and he maintained his great putting touch, which has been with him all tournament.

South Australia has been a happy hunting ground for Bouvier having also previously won this Championship.

Jens Nilsson regained the form he showed early in the week to try and bridge the gap on the leaders, but it was Hend who posed a real threat early in the day. His prodigious distance off the tee has thrilled the spectators, none more so than at five, a 473 m par five, when his massive drive finished a mere 85m from the pin.

Best round of the day was shared by Tim Wilkinson and Andrew Bonhomme with 65.
