Vijay speaks out about Sorenstam

Vijay Singh has not exactly endeared himself to the female golfers of this world, but his comments at Quail Hollow on Sunday night may well reflect what many are thinking but are not prepared to say outwardly.
In an interview with Associated Press after the final round of the Wachovia Championship event regarding the involvement of Anika Sorenstam at next week's Colonial, Singh said that he "hoped she would miss the cut and that in the unlikely event of her being drawn to play with her he would withdraw from the event."
"She does not belong here" said Singh. "She is clearly the best woman golfer in the world but I emphasise the word 'woman' they have their tour and the men have theirs. She is taking a spot from someone else in the field."
Singh's strong outburst is perhaps an indication of a commonly held view amongst many members of the PGA Tour but one that touches on an issue in a way that is not seen as 'politically correct' in this very correct age. Nick Price was recently quoted as saying that her (Sorenstam's) presence 'reeks of publicity' and that if she wanted to play the event 'she should qualify to prove herself'.
The outburst of Singh is the most public of all at a time when many are getting sore from sitting on the fence. Whether you like what Singh has to say or not, you can only admire him for saying what he feels when so may others are running for cover.
