Spike McRoy further emphasised the incredible depth of players on the USPGA Tour with his come from behind win in the BC Open. McRoy now becomes the tenth first time winner this season.
McRoy, who rejoined the PGA Tour last year, following a succesful season on the Buy.Com Tour in 2000, came from well behind with a final round 65 to grab overnight leader Shaun Micheel and Fred Funk to win by two from Funk with a large group one shot further back.
Those in that group included Micheel who faded with a final round 74 and Cliff Kresge. Kresge, playing on invitation, needs but one more in on this year’s Buy.Com Tour to get automatic access to the PGA Tour showed he has the game for the job when he gets there. His last round 62 had him closing quickly on the leaders but they held him at bay.
Paul Gow attempting to go one better than his runner up here last year finished 9th, after starting the last round in second place three behind Micheel. Greg Chalmers was 13th, Steve Allen 25th, Phil Tataurangi 40th, Grant Waite 48th, Michael Long 56th and Mattie Goggin 72nd.
