Inkster takes full advantage of Sorenstam's absence

While the dominant player on the LPGA Annika Sorenstam was elsewhere this week, another of the LPGA Tour's top four was busy doing what she does best, namely winning golf tournaments.
The forty two year old Julie Inkster's last round of 62, which by the way included a bogey at the par four sixteenth, moved from overnight third to a four shot win over Lorie Kane and by five over long time leader in this event, Catriona Matthew.
For Inkster this was her twenty ninth career win, seven of which have been majors, and yet another example of her capacity to not only play great golf but to mix the demands of motherhood with a brilliant golfing career. She has two young daughters and yet has found the secret of doing both well.
She, along with Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Se Ri Pak have been the dominant players in the game over the last six or so years and the way Inkster is playing right now, she looks a serious chance to do well again at the LPGA in two weeks time, an event she has won twice in recent years.
Karrie Webb was the leading Australian in ninth place, her last round 65 moving her up from 18th, Shani Waugh 15th, Rachel Teske 25th, Wendy Doolan 33rd, Fiona Pike 47th, Loraine Lambert 77th and Jan Stephenson 81st.
The LPGA heads to Illinois for this week's Kelloggs-Kebber Classic followed by the LPGA Championship in Delaware the next week.
