Jones off to great start in Japan
BY Bruce Young | Japan Tour | 2002 NST Niigata Open | Round One | 25 Jul 2002
Queenslander Craig Jones, playing the Japan Tour for the first time this season, and in his first event of the year, has opened with a first round 5 under 67 at the Sato Foods NST Niigata Open.
Jones, from Queensland, has a Japan Tour rating which allows him only a few starts this year and with this being a lesser event on the Japan Tour he gets his chance in what is a weaker field.
He trails first round leaders Katsuya Nakagawa and Katsumasa Miyamoto by one shot and is tied in third place with four others. Craig Warren is at 4 under, Brad Andrews 3 under with Andrew Bonhomme and New Zealander Richard Lee at 2 under.
The event is being played in Niigata a city on the west coast of Japan’s main island of Honshu.
This week’s prize is 50,000,000 yen or approx $A700,000 representing the smallest purses on the Japan Tour this year.
