J.P. Hayes shot a superb -10 (61) to move into a share of the lead alongside Fred Funk. Hayes, who started the day in 18th place, carded eleven birdies and one bogey on his way to 61. Fred Funk backed up his first round 64 with another 64 today and moved from outright second place overnight and into a share of the lead.
Robert Gomez carded a 64 to take sole possession of third place with Briny Baird also using his 64 to move up from 18th into 4th place. Nolan Henke joined Baird at -11 and in equal 4th following a round of 65.
Not a great day for the Australasians with only two players, John Senden and Kiwi Michael Long, making the cut. Senden shot back to back 68’s but had to settle for 32nd place on a day when so many players fired low scores. Michael Long blew out his round and closed with a 73 to slip into equal 67th.
Seven players missed the weekend cut including Wayne Grady, who shot a second round -4 (67) but a first round 73 curbed his chances. Steve Allan -2, Rod Pampling -1, Mathew Goggin -1 , Bradley Hughes -1, Paul Gow 1, and Grant Waite 4.
