Kuehne leads Big Apple Classic by two

IN: News | LPGA | Sybase Big Apple Classic (2002) | Round Two | 27 Jul 2002

Kelli Kuehne fired a -6 (65) to take a two shot lead after the second round of the 2002 Sybase Big Apple Classic. Kuehne won her only career title three years ago at the Corning Classic and is now in a great position at -8. Kuehne is two strokes in front of Chris Johnson, who also shot a -6 (65).

World number one Annika Sorenstam, who has won six times this year so far, is just three shots back and at that distance is still looking dangerous.

Overnight co-leaders Kathryn Marshall and Minny Yeo, failed on day two with Marshall shooting a 76 and just making the cut by a stroke while Yeo posted an 80 and missed the cut. Recent US Open winner Juli Inskter carded a 72 to also miss the cut at 5.

Karrie Webb leads the Australasians at -3 (T9) following a round of 69. Webb is five strokes off the pace but with two days to go she is sitting in a solid position. Rachel Teske carded a 71 to remain at Even Par with Wendy Doolan, Fiona Pike and Mardi Lunn all at 2 and in 41st place. Joanne Mills was the only other ANZ player to make the cut and is at equal 61st.
