Following the recent announcement that Horizons will host the 2004 ANZ Championship at it’s Port Stephens’ Championship course, a formal declaration also followed regarding Horizons decision to transfer the 2003 NSW Open Championship to Macquarie Links Golf Club.
The announcement that the ANZ Championship will be played at Horizons 18 hole championship course 12-15 February 2004 further illustrates Horizons Golf Resort’s commitment to golf in Australia.
The ANZ Championship is the flagship event in Horizons portfolio which includes the NSW PGA Trainee Championship, ALPG Players’ Championship and the re-launched NSW Open Championship.
Horizons Chief Executive Officer, Antonio Gelonesi outlined that in order to deliver the best playing conditions for both the ANZ Championship and the NSW Open Championship and in the tradition of the NSW Open Championship being played on a top quality golf course, the 2003 NSW Open Championship will be transferred to Macquarie Links Golf Club in Sydney’s South West.
Gelonesi was enthusiastic about the announcement “We have a very strong strategic partnership with Macquarie Links, and will be working with Mike Saye and his team as well as the NSW Golf Association and Australian PGA to successfully deliver our second NSW Open Championship”.
Macquarie Links’ proximity to Sydney CBD will allow more people to share in the excitement of a great event that is steeped in history."
Macquarie Links’ General Manager Mike Saye said “We are thrilled to be hosting the NSW Open this year and working hand in hand with Horizons Golf Resort. We are proud to continue the tradition with the launch of history that Horizons Golf Resort instituted last year”.
Executive Director of the NSW Golf Association David Allen said “We are very pleased that the successful re-launch of the NSW Open will continue in 2003 and beyond. We have a very good date being one week before the Australian Open and we are naturally hopeful of a strong field to contest this famous event. We are certain that Macquarie Links, with the help and support of Horizons Golf Resort, will host a wonderful event.”
The NSW Open Championship will be contested from 20-23 November and is part of the Von Nida Development Tour.
