Aussie Nick Flanagan reaches semi-finals at US Amateur

Nick Flanagan continued on his winning way today when he beat 44 year old American Jerry Courville one up, in a quarter final match at the 2003 US Amateur Championship.
Newcastle's Flanagan, 25 years the junior of Courville, lost the first hole of the day but quickly regained that at the second and from that point on he never again fell behind, eventually winning at the last.
Again the scoring was not great, Flanagan seven over when his match finished, but that is of little relevance given that he has made the final of the US Amateur.
Flanagan faces 22-year-old David Oh from the University of Southern California in their semi-final match tomorrow. Oh has proven to be somewhat of a giant killer in the event, eliminating Tripp Keuhne and Bill Haas on his way to the through to this point.
If he wins tomorrow then he is also likely to receive an invitation to the US Masters as the two finalists are these days invited. If he was to win the final then he would become the first Australian since Walter Travis 100 years ago, to do so.
In the other semi final match, brilliant 18-year-old, Casey Wittenberg meets NCAA runner up Lee Williams. Wittenberg recently won the Southern Amateur and the Porter Cup and is a member of the Walker Cup team.
