Yet another Asian golfer is making her mark on the USLPGA Tour with 22-year-old Taiwanese Candie Kung, winning her second event of 2003 in today’s Wachovia Championship in Kutztown Pennsylvania.

Kung, who first came to prominence on the USLPGA Tour with her fourth place at last year’s Weetabix Women’s British Open after leading in round one during her rookie season, came from behind over the last nine holes to catch then beat, Se Ri Pak and Meg Mallon, who had edged ahead during their front nines.

Kung attended the University of Southern California and was the 2001 US Public Links Champion before turning pro. In her 2002 season she accumulated five top tens and finished 36th on the money list.

Karrie Webb was in a position to challenge starting the final round three behind Kung, but her poor start which saw her at two over early, had her on the back foot. She recovered somewhat but was never going to win from that point. She eventually finished sixth and was the leading Australasian with Jane Crafter coming home in 61st place and Michelle Ellis at 66th.
