Short but sweet for Candie Kung at State Farm Classic

Candie Kung today won her third event of the season and second in succession when she took out the State Farm Classic in Illinois without having to step onto the course in round four.
The final round was washed out after a limited amount of play although the leaders did not get onto the course. Kung had the lead by one over Laura Davies after the third round, by two over Hee Won Han and by three over another English golfer, Karen Stupples. Four foreigners in the first four.
In 23 events this season on the USLPGA Tour, foreign born golfers have won seventeen, again highlighting the international flavour of the USLPGA Tour.
Annika Sorenstam, Rachel Teske, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, Grace Park, Hee Won Han, Candie Kung, Wendy Doolan and Se Ri Pak have all won in 2003, some more than once, with just Juli Inkster, Beth Daniel, Hilary Lunke, Angela Stanford and Rosie Jones flying the US flag.
Karen Pearce and Joanne Mills were the leading Australians in 14th place. For Toowoomba’s Pearce this was her best USLPGA Tour finish in the US. She did finish 12th at Royal Pines at the Australian Ladies Masters in 2000 when that event was a USLPGA Tour event. Katherine Hull, who has been playing on the Futures Tour this year in the US, was 22nd with Mardi Lunn at 27th and Queensland’s Loraine Lambert 34th.
