Update: Leaney to miss German Masters
Stephen Leaney returns to Cologne this week as the defending champion of the Linde German Masters although he is now considerably higher in the rankings than he was leading into this event last year. In fact at this stage twelve months ago his world ranking was 124th, one week later he had moved to 61st. Following his second placing at the US Open this year, he had moved to 22nd and although now 40th, his status in world golf is considerably different than before this event last year.
Leaney's form since the US Open has not been somewhat lacklustre but he is now a member of the President's Cup Team and will no doubt be looking for this event to provide a boost to his game to get back on track.
The Linde German Masters is once again being staged at the Jack Nicklaus designed Gut Larchenhof Golf Club and, as is always the case in this event, it has attracted a top European Tour field including tournament promotor, Bernhard Langer.
Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington, Michael Campbell, Lee Westwood, Nick Faldo and Langer himself will all line up.
Australasians are Scott, Peter O'Malley, Marcus Fraser, Brett Rumford, Jarrod Moseley, Richard Green, Peter Fowler, Greg Turner and Nick O'Hern.
The event carries a purse of 3 million euros with 500,000 of those going to the winner.
