After a two week break, the LPGA gets underway again this week with the Safeway Classic beginning this Friday in Oregon.
The LPGA regular tournament schedule took a break to accommodate the Solheim Cup and with that now behind them, the LPGA golfers can now focus on the remaining events of the year.
Defending champion Annika Sorenstam will be there as will one of the strongest fields for any regular tour event. Se Ri Pak, Karrie Webb, Juli Inkster, Hee Won Han, Candie Kung and Rachel Teske are but a few of the high class field lining up on the Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Also there will be Michelle Wie who last week missed the cut at the recent Boise Open, a Nationwide Tour event, by 12 strokes.
The course was originally built in 1925 and designed then by one A.V. Macan but underwent a major redesign by Arthur Hills in 2002. It now measures 6300 yards for this event and carries a par of 72.
Australasians in the field aside from Webb and Teske are Jane Crafter, Wendy Doolan, Michelle Ellis, Loraine Lambert, Mardi Lunn, Marnie McGuire, JoAnne Mills, Karen Pearce, Fiona Pike and Shani Waugh.
The tournament is played over 54 holes and carries a purse of some $US1,200,000.
