It was announced this morning that the AGU has changed the dates of the 2003 Australian Open to 18-21 December.

This change has been brought about by the scheduling of the Davis Cup Final in Melbourne on the same dates as the Australian Open.

To enable both the viewing public and tournament spectators to maximise their enjoyment of both these world-class events, the Australian Golf Union and the Seven Network have agreed that the change of dates is desirable and appropriate.

This change will not affect the previously advised dates for Regional Qualifying.

Final Qualifying will though now be played on Monday 15th December.

In addition, the closing date for both Final Qualifying and the Championship Proper is now Friday 21st November.

The only other changes of note to the championship conditions are to clauses covering exemptions from all qualifying:

  • Condition E.3 now reads: “Leading 100 players in the Official World Ranking as at 10 December.”
  • Condition E.4 now reads: “Leading 10 players & ties from the Australasian PGA Tour Order of Merit event played in the week immediately prior to the Australian Open, who have entered but who are not otherwise exempt. (NB If no applicable event is played in this week, Exemption Category E-14 shall be amended to the leading 60 players on the 2003 season Australasian PGA Tour Order of Merit as at 10 December 2003.)”
  • Condition E.14 now reads: “Leading 50 players on the 2003 season Australasian PGA Tour Order of Merit as at 10 December 2003 (please note Exemption Category E-4).”
